Hello there
OS pleasures today:
1) Making OH a tasty dinner from leftover sausages and store cupboard supplies (I'm assured it tasted better than that sounds,I didn't go near it as I'm veggie)!
2) Finding that our older dog's 'puppy' collar now fits our newer pup who was growing out of his first one, so we won't need to buy another one for him yet (do dogs mind hand-me-downs?)
3) Have organised the insulation to be done on Friday, to keep the heat we have inside the house for a change this winter!
4) Enjoying soup made from scratch (my new hobby since becoming more OS)!
5) Managing, for the second chilly evening in a row, not to put the heating on.
Have a good evening everyoneStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Evening all,
Hope you are all fine and dandy.
Early morning today with a 7am flight to Edinburgh. We were 40 minutes late taking off though... grrr...
1) Putting the annoying consultant in his place durin our meeting. He spent the entire meeting on his computer, trying to trip me up but I survived!
2) Lovely lunch at a very smart seafood restaurant. I had the most divine tempura squid which was melt in the mouth.... *gurgle*
3) Two of my projects passed its' audits... woohoo!!! I had a deep suspicion that one of the may not be ready...
4) Using my new Kenwood chef this evening to make a victoria sponge as well as some chocolate, almond and cranberry brownies for my colleagues
5) Nice chatty taxi driver on the way back from the airport. The ones in my area are usually quite sullen, but this one was nice.
Right - had better go and check on the cakes!
Sleep well
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Ladyhawk - Those brownies sounds sooo yummy
Pleasures for today:
1. Everyone out of the house on time with breakfast and lunches for the day
2. Chatting with a friend on the phone who has been having a hard time lately and her telling me she had won a weekend in Barcelona with spending money. So pleased for her as she really needs a break.
3. Took a CD back that OH had bought and wasn't working properly, they didn't want to give me a cash refund but did in the end. Got home to find it cheaper on line so a bit of money saved.:money:
4. Lovely Roast beef for dinner that I didn't cook yesterday. It has been hiding in the bottom of my freezer for ages but as trying to empty the freezer thought I might as well cook it. I got all the veg and potatoes prepped this morning so just had to throw it in the oven when got in from work.
5. Managed to finish a job today that was a bit never ending trying to collate lots of information onto one spreadsheet so we could see what needs doing. Got there in the end even if all I can see when I close my eyes is lots of little squares.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Thank you so much everyone for you kind thoughts and all the hugs, always much needed and appreciated at times like this. I've been invited to the funeral but Australia is just a bit too far to go...
for Monday
1. My exercise class was cancelled, a relief in a way as it meant I didn't have to explain sniffly nose and runny eyes as a 'cold'
2. Did some baking, it's surprising what you can find to cook even if the fridge is looking a bit bare. I saw Gypsy Tart recipe on here just today and thought I'd try it, had a little slice and think my taste buds are in love
3. Tidied the airing cupboard, I only did it a few months ago so there isn't really anything to take to the charity shop. My DS says I have OCD as I put all the folds to the front and the piles of linen in size order from back to front. I just say I enjoy having a tidy airing cupboard since the DC left home and it's just my stuff in there
4. Repaired a kitchen cupboard door which just decided to fall off
5. Lots of love and affection from all three pets. Animals are so sensitive and a great comfort.
Night night, sleep well

5 for yesterday (Monday).
1) Went to help my brother with his barn conversion which included going into a builders yard for some very specific roofing nails, trying to look as though I knew what I was asking for! He has roofed all of one side now.
2) Took brother's dog for a walk.
3) Mum and dad came back from holiday so I said hello to them.
4) Watching Holby City on iplayer.
5) Mum and dad coming round here (quite unusual) and dad having a go at the shooting game on the Wii (he works as a beater and does a lot of shooting).
6) MrN coming round twice :-)0 -
Yesterday's:
1. Managing to do a little more pruning in the garden despite the grey weather.
2. Friendly local butcher gave us some free new variety sausages to try, so had them with
tomato, onion & green bean rattatouille mixture picked from the garden.
3. Picking lots of orange pyracantha berry twigs from the garden for autumnal table decoration.
(Only three, but it still seemed a contented day, although I DO HATE GREY SKIES !!)0 -
Just quickly in (am at work) to report a lovely little happening - the Italian greengrocer/deli down the road from my work agreed to buy ALL my green tomatoes (probably more than 5 Kg!) to make chutney! I shall ask him to pay me in chutney and lunches (he makes very nice stuff).
See you all tomorrow xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Sparrer - So sad about your friend. But so glad that you got the chance to speak to him. What a fantastic friend you have been phoning every night.
Frith - Well done on your shinnying. It kind of sounds fun (I'm scared of heights). So you're very brave!
Ladyhawk - your business trip to Edinburgh in-a-day sounds very exciting. But I'm guessing it must also be somewhat exhausting. Always amazed and in awe at how much you seem to cram into a day.
Caterina - great news about your green toms! :j
DH had some very sad news last night that one of his students (he is a tutor to adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities) had died suddenly.:( A shock since he was only in his 40s with no pre-existing medical condition. DH had a tough day today with his own sadness but also talking to some of the other residents who had varying degrees of understanding about what had happened to their friend. Very distressing.
My pleasures today seem mostly bird related!
1) On the way to take DH to work this morning we were ambushed by a flock of honking aggressive geese who blocked off the road (a small back road). I tried driving forward slowly but that seemed to enrage one of them who came honking furiously at the bonnet. Then we wound down the windows to try and get them to move by shaking our hands around - to no avail. Finally, DH got out the car to try and shoo them to the side of the road but they chased him back to the car :rotfl:By this time, another driver had pulled up behind and I could see him laughing in the rear view mirror and I was laughing so hard at my DH shrieking trying to get back in the car! A good laugh was a better start to the day anyway.
2) Then on the way to pick DH up from work, DS2 and I saw an owl swoop to the side of the road after some prey. Because it is a small back road we were able to stop the car at a distance and watch this amazing bird in action. What a view
3) Followed the Sainsbug magazine's 'How to make Egg Benedict' with hm hollandaise sauce and proper swirly poached eggs. Didn't have any bacon or muffins but I stuck some rocket on toast, then the egg and then the sauce and it was delish!
4) Read some more of my really brilliant book. Looked up the author's name to see what else she had published but it's her only title as she died in 2006 (book was published posthumously). The book is 'The Journal of Dora Damage' by Belinda Starling, should anyone fancy a fantastic read.
5) And finally, another NSD.
Wishing everyone a great evening.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Evening all.
Blimus - that's really sad news about your DH's student. I'm glad you got a laugh out of the geese, anyway!
sparrer - I'm very sorry to hear about your friend - hugs to you.
My pleasures for today (such as they are):
1) I'm feeling very slightly better than I was yesterday, but still unwell enough that I doubt I'll be going to work tomorrow (that's two pleasures in one, really).
2) Found out when I phoned in sick this morning that half the company I work for is off sick with the same thing. I'm not pleased that other people are unwell - I'm not that mean - but it might be a wake-up call to our HR department, who have been trying to 'persuade' people to come in when they're not well. This just proves what happens when you do that - you end up with dozens of people catching the same illness. :wall:
3) A pleasure out of a definite non-pleasure - I got up this morning to find water running down my kitchen wall and dripping all over the work surfaces - apparently the washing machine in the flat upstairs had sprung a leak overnight. The pleasure was meeting my new upstairs neighbour (I must admit I didn't know the previous couple had even moved out) - he's lovely and offered to pay to re-decorate the kitchen to get rid of the water marks, and seemed quite sad when I said I was planning on redecorating next month anyway so his generous offer wasn't needed.
4) Managed to get out in the garden briefly and pick yet more tomatoes, although the minimal effort involved has had me coughing ever since.
5) My sense of taste has come back enough that I'm going to eat some of the tomatoes for dinner - I haven't been able to taste anything since Sunday so that will be a real pleasure.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0
