Lol... unfortunately for them I am mean!

Introuble - sounds like you have had a really busy day. Well done will all your cooking and cleaning, and for the car passing its MOT.

    1) Cleaning my bathroom so it is positively sparkling!

    2) Having lunch with some old friends - it was a birthday/ hen lunch for my friend from Ediburgh was was visiting us.

    3) Coming home and having a snooze

    4) Looking out of the window when I woke up to see a gorgeous, bright full moon.

    5) Realising that the Graze box that I recieved on my birthday was from my friend and not just a random sample! She never gives presents and I thought she had completely forgotten it.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening

MOT - Well done on getting 5 hours sleep much more than we have ever managed when DD has had a sleepover
Caterina - You have given me a craving for porridge now, will have to buy some oats tomorrow, a friend recommeded almonds sprinkled on the top so will have to try that.
CCP - Plum crumble  might have to try that one as well

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Shopping trip to Kingston with DD where I managed to buy her a designer sweatshirt to put away for her birthday for a bargain of £15 reduced from £60. Also managed to get some boots she really wanted ordered thanks to the grabbit board for £30 reduced from £110:eek:. Her birthday now sorted
    2. Bought a couple of bits in the next sale but am taking one back as not very flattering when I tried it on, at least saved some money. Bought DD some jeans in Primark as she is on another growth spurt not an ethical shop I know but when you have a teenager who seems to be growing by the week it makes life easier
    3. Sat in the sunshine with DD at lunchtime eating potato wedges, was a bit chilly but still nice to be able to sit outside while we can
    4. Oh made a pan of HM soup with pasta, sausages and veg for dinner while I cleaned the kitchen. Very filling and warming plus yummy.
    5. Free box of Special K cereal off the milk man this morning:money:

Hugs to all who need them
  • Mine for today are...

    1) long walk with DH and baby, including somehow getting lost in some woods not far from the main road!
    2) trying a new flapjack recipe (googled orange flapjacks and they were the ones on the c4 website). Jury is still out on them, think we prefer the normal ones
    3) baked a batch of breadsticks, supposed to be for baby but we've scoffed plenty of then
    4) made some more progress on the cardi I'm knitting for little one
    5) ordered a jam thermometer so I can start to make homemade sweets
Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!

Late as usual, my pleasures -

    1. Took some hm chicken soup to a friend who has shingles on the side of her head and across to one eye :(. The shingles isn't a pleasure for her of course but pleased I had some soup in the freezer
    2. Made yummy chicken pies with mash topping, one to eat and some to freeze
    3. Shredded lots of papers from yesterdays clearout. There's something satisfying about shredding old bills and statements, yesterdays human headaches turning into todays soft hamster pillows :D
    4. nsd
    5. Line dried a load of towels and bathrobes
    6. Postie brought me a box of savoury crackers to trial
    6. A friend who's moving and having a clearout brought me six(!!!) jars of hm jam. I'll share them with DD and the neighbours who all have children

    Night night, sleep tight

    Hi all

CCP and Tealady, re. porridge, thanks for your kind words. I normally make porridge with flaked oats but a while ago, in one of my bulk buys, I bought 5 kg of whole oat groats (the whole grain), they are really delicious and you don't have to use them only for breakfast, they are really good in soup as a substitute for barley or just as a thickener, and they are super-healthy.

I am forever thinking of how I could adjust my diet to be more locally based and because I sometimes seem to rely on rice, which clocks up a lot of food miles, (at least I try to buy the Italian one rather than the more far-away ones), I am trying to eat more local grains, such as oats and barley. But that's just me!

Allotment weeding day today, DH is already there so I really need to make a move!

See you all later for pleasures, have a great day! x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    5 for yesterday (Saturday).

    1) Went to see my Uncle Bert (91) for a cup of tea.

    2) Went to my sister's to let her cat out while she is away for the weekend. She had left me a cake. :-)

    3) On the way home, stopped off at my friend's Hen Afternoon. She didn't want a rowdy hen night so had an afternoon do in aid of MacMillan nurses (their tea party fund raising scheme).

    4) Went swimming with sons and my brother. Finally they have installed heating so I dived in, expecting to surface freezing to death and it was almost warm!

    5) Watched Casualty.

    6) MrN came round. :-)

    1) Meeting the new neighbours in the early hours of the morning and they're lovely.
    2) Snuggling in my lovely warm bed this morning when the rest of my room was cold enough to chill our beer.
    3) Coming out of the bathroom and smelling my bread almost finished cooking.
    4) Hot fresh bread and butter.
    5) Tucking up in bed at 1pm!

  • Here are my five for today:

    1. The cake I made for our niece's birthday was an immense success, and resulted in our other niece asking the rest of the family to give me a round of applause. :)
    2. The way the birthday girl took to flying the kite we bought her as a present. We didn't know but she had been asking for a kite, and the little one we picked up for her flew really easily. :)
    3. Having a good day with the family.
    4. Having a nice workout yesterday morning, and then going swimming this morning. While I didn't spend too long in the pool, DH and others had a great time on the water-slides.
    5. All the ironing being done. There's none left to do now. Yay!!!.

I don't know why but I've a headache that won't shift. My usual remedies of caffeine and chocolate haven't worked, so I resorted to taking 2 tabs to see if that would work. I'm still seeing if they will work, too. It was really good to see the family this weekend though and we've had a lovely time.

  • We have been stuck in the house all weekend - this storm is relentless

So my pleasures are for the weekend:

    1) Mum is back from Spain - had a lovely chat with her on the phone.
    2) Two NSDs
    3) Found lots of stuff to put on ebay
    4) My items that are ending tonight on ebay are all doing very well :j
    5) The slow cooker pulled pork meal was amazing! The sweetcorn that we picked on friday was so sweet and fresh. There's enough of the pulled pork left over for sandwhiches and pasties. AND I made a broth with the stock that it cooked in.
    6) DH and I watched The Hangover which was silly but very funny.
    7) A friend uploaded the funniest video I have ever seen on FB of her 4 year old daughter singing (and playing mini guitar) a song she had written herself.
    8) Started a brilliant new library book.
    9) Got all excited about 'The Takeaway Secret' book after reading the thread about it on MSE. Will be ordering that from Amazon.
    10) Despite having cabin fever, the boys are playing quite nicely together and it's a joy hearing them laughing raucously.

Thought that would be hard since it felt like a pretty boring weekend - but it was quite easy to find all of those pleasures :)

Evening all. smiley-sick010.gif No, my cold's no better. :(

I'll try and find a few pleasures for the day, though:

    1) Another NSD. One of the few advantages of having a cold is that shopping isn't very appealing.

    2) Lots of sport to watch while I was feeling sorry for myself.

    3) HM soup and yellow bread for dinner. (Um... I added some turmeric as the dough looked a bit anaemic, and I think I overdid it - the dough's now very yellow indeed. I know my signature says that the world needs more yellow things, but I didn't mean my dinner! :o)

    4) Unless I make a miraculous recovery overnight, I won't be going into work tomorrow. ;):D:o

    OK, I can't think of a fifth one. :(

Kitchenbunny - well done on your cake - it was obviously a great success. I hope your headache goes away soon.

Frith - I love your friend's idea of having a hen afternoon in aid of charity - what a brilliant idea! I hope she really enjoyed it.

Caterina - that's really interesting about the oat groats - I'll have to keep an eye out for them, as I rather fancy trying them.

sparrer - I hope your friend gets over her shingles soon, and I hope she enjoyed the HM soup. It's what my mum always made when me or my sister were unwell, so chicken soup is always a comforting thing for me.

Introuble - well done on making a successful HM curry - it's one thing I've never mastered: my attempts have always been rather tasteless. I'll get it right one of these days, I swear!

    Have a pleasant evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
