(Quote Kitchenbunny)Hi, CCP. It's called Working for Victory - a diary penned by two ladies that went into one of the factories in/around Croydon during the Second World War. It's edited by Sue Bruley, and I'm finding it absolutely fascinating. It gives a great insight into the conditions back then, too.
I've got a book called EATING for Victory..:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Typical of me, that.
1. Got up early as DH was taking the car into the garage, to try and get it sorted.
2. Received my Lakeland order and got 8 free silicone cup cake thingies for free.:T Got a very nice book on preserves and pickles.
3. DH picked a lot of tomatoes and 9 green peppers this morning.:)
4. Yummy leftover chicken casserole and green beans for lunch. Nice and warming as it has been raining here all day and pretty miserable out there.:D
5. All the ironing is done at last.:jFelines are my favourite

Frith - Glad today went well for you. Have a good time with MrN tonight! So sorry to hear that your scans showed up problems too.
Reverbe - it's good to see you back but sad to hear that you're not having a great time of it. I really hope things start to look brighter soon. And on a more trite note - so impressed that you met Gael!
SavingforOz - how exciting - ten more days! :j
The wind has really picked up here - it's not even worth going out to right the bins at the moment as they just keep blowing over again. Would like to spend the rest of the eve tucked up snug in the house but have to do the Beavers and Scouts runs yet.
Here are mine for today:
1) Before the major downpours started, we managed to get to our favourite PYO fruit and Orchard farm and picked a whole load of apples, pears, plums, sweetcorn and an enormous pumpkin for under £7.
2) Mostly food pleasures todayInspired by another thread I made some cheese and onion pasties for our lunch. They were very nice and inspireda feel-good family chat about pastie fillings
Also, took some lemon drizzle muffins along with us for the picnic and they were very nom too.
3) DS2 needed some wellies and I was very pleased to find a pair of biker boot style wellies. They're so cool
4) Met up with my best friend and her sons at the orchard. She's not having the best week but it's still always nice to see her. Just wish that I could help her out.
5) Being inside on a cold and stormy afternoon like today (for the time being anyway).
Wishing everyone a good evening!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Hello, it's Mumoftwins (MOT) here , may I join in please?
It's absolutely ages since I posted anything on here but would like to if you don't mind?
Haven't done a lot today as not been at work since Wednesday, but have done something really important that I have been meaning to do for some 18 months! I have at long last changed all my D/D's to my bank account which has a way of keeping all the money needed for bill payments, so that I never miss a payment and always know exactly what I am left with for the month - so I am one happy bunny now :T. I was ok with my Barclays account but this one is terrific, so no more poring over my account each day to work out where I am with my money.
I must be a bit soft in the head also, as it was the twins birthday last Tuesday and I have (apparently) agreed to a sleepover for DD and 14 of her friends :eek: She must have asked me when my mind was in another place soon after I-T's funeral. Anyway, the furniture in the lounge is moved, breakables put away and a large floor area cleared for the girls to 'sleep' on overnight - shame my bedroom is above, will have to use my earplugs!
I have had a no spend weekand hope to have a no spend weekend too - sorry, I forgot my food shopping but that is a necessity rather than a luxury isn't it?
Anyway, enough now, hope you are all well xxChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
Evening all.
mumoftwins - welcome to the thread. :hello: Good luck tonight - it sounds like you're going to need it!
Blimus - cheese and onion pasties and lemon drizzle muffins -:drool::drool:. I haven't made c&o pasties in ages, and I must do them again - they're so simple, and so good.
Frith - I'm so glad things went OK-ish for you today. I hope you have a lovely evening, wherever you decide to go.
Reverbe - it's lovely to see you posting, and I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time at the moment. I'd definitely second ampersand's suggestion of looking on freecycle for a new washing machine and/or fridge freezer - that's where I got rid of my last washing machine (when I moved into a flat that already had one), so you definitely get them on there at least occasionally.
sparrer - I gave my poorly moggy a scratch under the chin from you, and he said "purr".
Kitchenbunny - belated thanks for the name of that book - I'll keep and eye out for it as it sounds really interesting.
My pleasures for today:
1) Dragged myself into the office this morning to present a paper to a senior committee, only to find my manager had arranged to do it and I didn't need to be there at all. Oh well, I think I got some brownie points for making the effort, anyway.
2) Came home as I was still feeling lousy (I think it's an incipient cold) and treated myself to a bacon sarnie for lunch.
3) Lots of cuddles from my puddy tat who was delighted to see me home so early.
4) Putting on a pair of fluffy socks to sort out my cold feet. I hate having cold feet.
5) HM pizza for dinner, with the sauce made from more of my HG toms.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Frith
Really sorry about your neck and arm; I lost the use of my writing arm for over a year because of pressure on the nerve where there was damage in my neck. I was very lucky because there was no permanent damage and eventually it improved. They investigated all sorts including carpal tunnel syndrome. I thought I was going out of my tree. Now you know that there is a real sensible reason for your pain/discomfort you may be able learn how to manage it more effectively.
Reverbe
Please do keep posting even when life is crap. If you can force yourself to find a few good things in a day you will feel better, even if only a beautiful flower, a weed in the pavement, the sun on the clouds, a child skipping, whatever gives you joy. Life will be the same but your may percieve it more favourably. Do come over to the really old style thread as well and tell us how you are coping.
Try freegle or freecycle for refridgeration and washers. When i had to hand wash, an old fashioned spinner made a huge difference alowing me to spin the mucky water out of the clothes to make rinsing easier and then get stuff half way dry.
Pleasures
1. A huge rainbow out of the office window.
2. The weekend is coming and it is the first in a month when I am home all the time.
3. My apples are ripening.
4. I enjoy these autumnal days with that slight chill in the morning. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Here's my five for today:
1. Getting a free ice cream tub full of plums from a work colleague! They're stewing down at the bottom of the oven while a cake bakes.
2. A cup of tea. Ahh, bliss.
3. Reading my book. Nearly finished now.
4. A nice quick tea again - HM ready meal
5. The prospect of a lay in tomorrow.
Hi Reverbe - good to see you(hugs)
Ugh, what a day. It hasn't been the best of days, what with making a few mistakes at work that needed to be hurriedly rectified, and massively messing up my latest sewing project. I hate sewing on 28 count aida - unpicking where I'd gone wrong proved impossible and I ended up binning about 8 hours work.
Have a good evening, everyone.

Hello all
Thanks again for the welcomes, and nice to meet new people all the time :j Frith - I'm sorry to read of your troubles and hope life gets on a more even keel for you soon. Hugs to everyone else having problems at the moment.
Today's pleasures-
1) The weather held, and the gardening team blitzed the front garden - it looks so nice! Four young men with special educational needs came along with Matt, the gardener - I knew 3 of them through previous visits and they seemed so pleased to see me again. They had a great morning - helped along by coffee and choccie biccies (and I resisted having one).
2) Took my cat to the vets for a routine visit - she was on her best behaviour and didn't bite or hiss, and purred her little head off.
(and I do like the camaraderie in the waiting room as we show off our fur babies to each other)
3) Lovely low WW point evening meal - jacket potato, boursin low fat cheese, salad
4) Looking forwards to IKEA trip tomorrow - won't be spending much as I've had a few bills recently, but will enjoy window shopping
5) Looking forwards to a lazy evening
Have a good evening everyone,
Pam x0 -
Hi and welcome MOT! Late happy birthday to the twins - btw I am a MOT too, mine are 21 years old.
Reverbe, good to see you again, sorry to hear about life being difficult, I hope that you find a way to work through the difficulties, as you always sound like a very competent and resourceful person! And yes, now every time I pick up a penny I think I am doing a "Reverbe" - you have definitely introduced a new expression in the English language, be proud of that!
Frith, good to hear that the court hearing went as well as possible.
Kitchenbunny, sorry about your difficult day at work, now it is the weekend, I hope you can put the troubles behind you for the time being at least (((HUG)))
Off to cook now, have a great evening everyone xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all,
Reverbe - defintely try freecycle for WM etc. My local one has them on regularly so hopefully yours will too
Frith - looking forward to heard about THE date!
I've had a manic day in the office... another 12 hour dayI was supposed to do some training via a webinar for about 8 of our managers, and no one bothered to dial in. Really some people are so rude! So I have written to them all to say that I would not be holding any further training and if they fail their audits in two weeks time then this would be brought up with their MD. I am really fed up with people not doing what they supposed to.
1) My copies of How I Met Your Mother arrived in the post from my friend... I love that show! If anyone know someone like Ted then please give him my number!
2) My lovely colleague buying me lunch cos I didn't have any cash on me and am overdrawn... oops!
I am really struggling for pleasures today. I will have to have a think about it and come back later with my remaining 3.
L
Editted:
3) I completed a big contract this evening... the boss was pleased with the result
4) Completing a Soduko puzzle on my new phone... I can see myself getting a little obsessive about it!
5) It's the weekend and I going to just chill!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Frith - Glad the court went as well as it could for you, hope you have a lovely time tonight
Reverbe - Hope things improve for you soon
Sparrer - How lovely for you to get a text from your DF
Savingforoz - you must be so excited that your trip is nearly here
Mumoftwins- What can I say about the sleepover but:eek::eek::eek:
Pleasures for today:
1. Mad hour of baking this morning before work as we were having another macmillan coffee morning and I had forgotten I was taking things in:eek:
2. The coffee morning at work was lovely as we all sat around in the staff room chatting plus eating lots of lovely cake, had the nicest lemon drizzle cake and shamed to admit it but chocolate marble cake as well, and other goodies. Pleased to say all mine went quickly again:D Plus we managed to raise £185 this week and hopefully will get matched funding of another £150 off the company:T
3. Collegue who has been off sick for months now came in today to do a couple of hours work. So nice to see him up and about and should be back in the office full time in a couple of weeks
4. Easy dinner of bottom of the fridge bits and pieces with pasta, turned out yummy
5. Its friday :j:j:j
Hugs to all who need them0
