5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Kitchenbunny - can I ask the name of the book you're reading, please? I've just been watching a documentary on a similar subject and it's rather caught my interest.
Hi, CCP. It's called Working for Victory - a diary penned by two ladies that went into one of the factories in/around Croydon during the Second World War. It's edited by Sue Bruley, and I'm finding it absolutely fascinating. It gives a great insight into the conditions back then, too.
My five pleasures for today:
1. The sunshine again. We've been blessed with a lovely sunny day today.
2. Going out for a walk and seeing a cute little black and white kitten catching flies. Aww!
3. Went into town trying to find a food flask and instead of the normal spending I have been doing of late (bad me!) I only came back with 2 pieces of wrapping paper and some birthday cards (7 for £1) Didn't find a food flask though.
4. My copy of the Takeaway Secret arrived so I've been looking at yummy recipes for homemade takeaways.
5. Tea. It was a spicy sausage and bacon pasta dish which I think improved by using a red onion and a little sugar as opposed to the white onion I normally use. It was caramelly and beautiful. Mmm...

Evening
Pleasures for today:
1. We held a macmillan coffee morning at work today so took a HM strawberry fresh cream sponge and HM macaroons plus some out of the samosas in. There was sooo many cakes in the office today but glad to say all mine went:D plus we raised nearly £100.
2. DD made rock cakes at school today so will use for packed lunches tomorrow, really don't think can eat any more cake today.
3. Catching up with someone who works in our Coventry office. We used to work together on a lot of projects so nice to catch up and looks like we may be working together again
4. Lift home from work tonight, still not feeling too good so nice not to walk
5. The lovely atmosphere in our office today. How we all get along and support each other
6. Being very proud of my brother who did the great north run on sunday in fancy dress for Macmillan in memory of our oldest brother plus he got his photo in the newspaper
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening everyone, and thanks for the warm welcomes :j
It's been a really nice day today - nothing major happened, I just seemed to take pleasure in the small things. The things that gave me pleasure were
1) Lovely and sunny and warm all dayIt energised me and got me motivated to tackle various jobs
2) Caught up with emails I've meant to do for ages
3) Made good use of my WW points and haven't been hungry all day and have eaten well :j
4) Found loads of WW recipes on the ww site, and am off to get some ingredients tomorrow and get cooking!
5) Looking forwards to college starting next week ( card making and researching my family history
Night all,

Evening all...
Soooo... Frith... is MrN your boyfriend then?? Make sure he knows that if he doesn't treat you right we'll have to send the boys round! (we do have MSE boys to send round, don't we?)
Weeeeell..... I think he is! But he thinks no one has noticed. :rotfl:His parents are staying this week and he has just been over here and presumably at some point will have to tell them as they will be babysitting when we go out...
Anyway, here's my 5 for today:
1) Went into Ludlow this morning and did the 2nd hand shops. Got a jumper, 2 story tapes for the boys and a Cornish blue jug for £2.
2) Had lunch at mum and dad's.
3) Had a lovely parcel from Ampersand - thank you very much.
4) Played the piano a couple of times.
5) Watched smaller son storm his way through some complicated numeracy homework. He got the headteacher's award today for his work in numeracy.0 -
Really tired tonight, since my bad dream yesterday I didn't want to sleep last night. Silly really as I know bad dreams seldom occur 2 days running but stayed awake just to be sure .
Frith I agree with Ladyhawk and CCP, he'd better behave, or else! I might be little but even my 6'4" son-i-l doesn't mess with me. None of us are so far away we couldn't manage a posse...and I wouldn't mind a few days in the Welsh Marches, lovely area
Lots of foodie pleasures from everyone, makes me feel hungry.
Kitchenbunny I bought the Takeaway Book too. There's only me so the curries are going to be first to try and the fast food things are for when DGC visit
my 5
1. fell asleep about 6am and woke at 12.30pm today:eek:
2. nsd
3. another bag of pears from the orchard at the end of my garden. More cooking to do tomorrow
4. Hearing that a friends daughter came 2nd out of all the ladies in the Sydney marathon. She'd never entered one before, she's doing the gap year tour and decided to do it after getting sponsorship from the hostel she's staying in :T
5. Pineapple. Someone suggested it for my incessant cough so I bought a fresh one for £1 in Mr A a couple of days ago, but apparently juice is just as effective. Seems the something or other in the pineapple breaks down another something thing or other in the lungs. I didn't understand much of what she said, all I know is after a slice yesterday and another today it's amazing, I've hardly coughed at all
Night night, sleepy tight

Sparrer - i hope you manage to have a peaceful sleep with no more bad dreams. You are a very strong and indpirational person to deal with your demons the way you have.
Pleasures for today:
1. Thought I was running late this morning but managed to get to work just about on time
2. Lovely pub lunch with the girls at work. Wedges with Chilli mmmm and we managed to set the world to rights at the same time (well our bosses at least):D
3. Cut the £5 house of fraser voucher out of the Times at work and sent to my mum to use as there is one where she lives but the nearest one to me is a bit of a trek. One very happy mum
4. Refused a lift home from work and made myself walk as needed the exercise and the fresh air was really nice after a day stuck in the office.
5. Lovely local resident left out a bucket of windfall apples to help yourself so picked up a couple to make either a pie or a crumble with
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Wow it's quiet in here today!
I might be struggling to find 5 pleasures today, what with a painful coldsore developing (yes I know they are not the end of th world but they do make be feel very down about myself) and not getting a moment to gather myself at work today as there were several dramas going on around me... all in all it hasn't been a fantastic day.
1) A lovely man came round to pick up my slow cooker which I had listed on Freecycle. (Don't tell the other OS-ers that I got rid of it ok?). I am glad I chose him because he seemed really nice. Unlike one who sent me a stroppy email this evening demanding why I hadn't emailed her back... the fact that I didn't even have time to go to the loo all day meant that responding to Freecyclers was not high on my priority list.
2) When I got in my QA manager went and got me a cup of tea and gave me a nutri-grain bar because I hadn't had a chance to have breakfast... what a sweetie!
3) My boss telling me during the senior team meeting that he has nominated me for the departmental employee of the month.
4) One of my chefs telling me that I looked very nice today (before the coldsore came up obviously!)
5) Remembering that I was due to give a presentation to the marketing team 15 minutes before I was supposed to go into the meeting and still managing to pull it off successfully.
Wow - I can't believe I managed 5!
Sneaky 6th... being in bed and it is only 9.30pm... I will be asleep fairly shortly too!!
Night night
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Hi all
Really quiet today on here, hope everyone is having a great time doing fab things which is why they're not here!
Tealady - I hope your coldsore doesn't break out too much - they're really sore things!
Well, the 5 today are
1. Catching up with my best friend, I haven't seen her properly for a couple of months.
2. Fantastic afternoon volunteering at local school again. The kids are just great.
3. Midsomer Murders - I have a strange crush on John Nettles......yes, I know it's weird
4. Crispy toad in the hole for tea with gravy. Comfort food a go go.
5. Fabulous sunshine
6. OH winning an award at work. Feeling very proud.
Night all folkies x2012 Saving challenge £1000/£400! Woo! :wave:0 -
At the end of the day ... oh, we are. Here's my five for today:
1. Seeing a spitfire doing some mock dogfighting over the river - everyone went to the windows to watch it. They sound so lovely.
2. The sunshine. Slightly hazy but very warm and lovely.
3. My sister made a cake topper for our niece's b'day - a lovely unicorn. It's beautiful, and made from air-dried clay.
4. Leftover spicy sausage pasta for lunch! Mmm
5. Tea at Mum's. Today has been quite a family day, which has been nice.
Whew, I'm really hot today. The temperature has meant that I've been unable to keep cool and have felt a bit sluggish. But I'm cooling down (and winding down now) ready for bed. I've a driving lesson at 06:30 tomorrow! ARGH! What have I let myself in for?
Sleep well, everyone.

Evening everyone
Had a lovely chilled out day, despite a lousy night's sleep!
My 5 pleasures today:-
1) Another lovely sunny day - made the most of it and went out for a walk
2) My Weight Watchers points tracker gadget thingy arrived today (cheap buy off ebay) - much easier now to work out what NOT to buy in the supermarket
3) Looking forwards to getting my garden sorted out on Friday - local firm who give adults with special needs some work experience so they don't have to sit in a day care centre all day. They always really enjoy themselves, and as the business is a Social Enterprise it's not out for silly profits, and just charge a token amount to cover costs.
Since I developed a frozen shoulder, it's been soooo frustrating not to be able to do the gardening myself
4) Kept well within my WW points - am saving some for when I go out to IKEA on Saturday with a friend as I know there'll be yummy stuff in their cafe
5) Having recently gone part time at work (2 days a week) I'm relishing these 5 day weekends :j
