  • Good evening folks. Her are mine for the last week:

1 A week today I'll be on holiday-4 more working days!

2 Finding my wee cat Kira aka The Minxster, who will go and sit in the bath several times a day, waiting for me to let the cold tap run gently,so that she can have a drink of water.('Your wish is my command,Oh Furry One.').She doesn't announce her presence, but will sit in the bath waiting patiently for 20 minutes at a time, until I suddenly realise that I haven't seen her for a while....

3 I've made more apple, marrow and ginger jam,red onion chutney, plum chutney and a semolina cake-I was convinced it wouldn't set. Thanks caterina for the recipe.

4 Found a lovely three-pronged metal candlestick with a heavy base for peanuts at a local flea-market.

5 I've had a big book clearout, and have sorted out the bookcase in the hall.I've held onto books that I bought over 10 years ago and still haven't read.Time to be ruthless....(I'm a bit of a hoarder....).

6 Had a bit of a springclean in the bedroom, the amount of dust under the bed was impressive. Also took the rugs from the bedroom out to hang and beat the &*%* out of them.Very therapeutic!

7 Day off tomorrow. As a treat,I'm having a proper pedicure.I'm really looking forward to having gorgeous tootsies.

8 Newly determined to have more early nights.Bedtime no later than 22h30.Off to bed with cocoa and a book.Started this yesterday.

Patchwork Quilt I was looking at the marrow/courgette and apricot jam recipe you gave me.Do you peel and deseed the courgettes as you do with the marrow?

CCP Nice for you to get freebie casserole dishes, and,no it is not sad,I'd be chuffed too!

funkymonkey849 have a lovely day in London tomorrow

parsonswife8 and caterina have a lovely holiday!

sparrer well done on sticking to your list.I too,am a great procrastinator.I'm slowly improving.

Ladyhawk do you always work such long hours?Hope you have some days off coming up....and Happy Birthday!

crickett1234 glad that your Dad is improving.

frith hope yesterday went well.((((hugs)))) to you.

    Nighty night x
  • frith - hope today went well.
sparrer - thanks to the link to Martin's blog. Will read that later. Kittikins - wish my car had a computer like that! What did you do to change your driving?

Here are my five for today:

    1) A lovely sunny day.
    2) Learned the classical Greek alphabet and really enjoyed copying out the letters - it was very therapeutic, like doing one of those code puzzles.
    3) After lessons we decided to make the most of the weather and went to the beach for a couple of hours. But unfortunately this was also a very non-pleasurable time too as there was a woman who had a dog who clearly didn't like young children. This dog lunged at several small children, including my youngest son, on the ramp down to the beach, growling and barking with it's teeth bared. It would've clearly attacked the children had it not been on a lead. Children were crying and parents were standing there in shock. One man shouted at the woman that the dog should be muzzled and her response was a shocking "it didn't bite anybody" in a really snotty dismissive manner! I was so shocked the only words that were threatening to come out were the rudest ones I knew! And then when someone pointed out that the children were clearly terrified, the dog owner just said "oh dear" in a really sarcastic way. FUME!! Can't believe some people! It did put quite a downer on everything for a while - luckily the sea can cure even the foulest of tempers!
    4) Had a telephone chat with a friend about camping this weekend. Every time I speak with her I'm always struck by what a kind woman she is. Thank god for the good people who can take away the bitter taste of the bad 'uns :T
    5) Pork shank in apple juice in the slow cooker for tea. Made up some more of the cheesy dumplings that we had last night. Not as succesful in the slow cooker though. :o

Hope everyone has a good evening.

    5 for yesterday (Weds).

    1) Went to the appointment with Child Psych and Paediatrician. They feel smaller son IS autistic but somehow he has managed to scrape through some of the hundreds of tests by a) being quite bright and b) having a sense of humour! So they can't diagnosis him. They are going to have another go in 12 months time. Psychology Dept might be able to help him with his hoarding/swearing/toilet fears. They are 2 such nice chaps (the professionals) that it was like having a rather high brow chat in the pub.

    2) Dropped the library books off at last.

    3) Came home and did some housework, good to get it out of the way.

    4) Had a chat on the phone with my sister.

    5) MrN came round. :-)

Thank you all very much for the good wishes. :-) Yesterday was OK and the report did not make such difficult reading as I had thought.

    Evening all,

I had a dippy moment this morning. I got half way to work before remembering that I hadn't switched off the oven... so I traipsed all the way home (stopping for petrol as I only had enough to get me to work) and needless to say I had switched it off and just couldn't remember. I really should have trusted mysef!

Marmite - I tend to work fairly long hours - usually 9-12hours per day. But it does get recognise, in fact my boss has nominated my for employee of the year so it is worth it (kind of!!). I actually I came on here this evening to ask a question on marrow and ginger jam. I can't remember who gave me the recipe (possibly you??) anyway I am confused about the amount of liquid once I have mashed the marrow. Is it supposed to be quite dry?

Sparrer - thank you, thank you!

    1) Meeting the lovely Sparrer this evening briefly, who was kind enough to give me some jars to make my jam in.

    2) Chatting my my gorgeous friend L on the phone. She always makes me laugh - she is quite mad!

    3) Cake samples in the office and my colleague J brought in some sweeties.

    4) Making my marrow and ginger jam. I am looking forward to trying it as I can't imagine how it will taste!

    5) Watching the Simpsons when I got home - I love those little yellow people!

    Nighty night

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Kittikins my car, aka Kefi, reaches its 9th birthday on 28th of this month, it's very basic with wind-y windows and a key to unlock the doors, no electric or computer thingies as I thought the less 'fancy' stuff it has the less there is to go wrong. I love my auto too, don't know how people manage with manual gearboxes when they have to change the cd, open a tube of mints and gesture at rubbish men drivers at the same time .
parsonswife thank you for the description of your feet, I really did laugh out loud when I read it :rotfl:.Hope you have a super time, I loved caravaning and miss it but my little car wouldn't tow a cardboard box let alone a trailer ;)
Tealady well done on getting the Christmas box together. Like you I dip in from time to time for a present for someone so it's really useful to have it ready.
funkymonkey what a lovely neighbour you have. Have a super day with your bestest friend tomorrow :D
CCP good to see you post. Congrats on the apples, tomatoes and beans, and most of all the casserole dishes. Nothing sad about getting something so useful for nothing, it frees up money for other things :D
Patchwork the neighbours garden sounds nice though I'm sure yours is just as pretty. I covet my neighbours lawn atm as my mower went kaput a couple of weeks ago and the sun and rain have been ideal grass growing conditions!
marmite I envy you, I've never had a pedicure and it sounds lovely. Had to smile at the thought of you beating your rugs, but as you say, good for you. And the rugs, hopefully :D
Blimus thank you, but I didn't intend for it to be a link, I just copy/pasted it. But now I know how to make a link! So sorry you had an encounter with the obnoxious dog owner, she's the sort who lets the rest of us down with her irresponsible behaviour. Hope there are no bad effects for the boys and yourself :)
Frith I'm so pleased for you that the day was better than expected. Everything x'ed that the psych dept can help smaller son overcome his fears of some issues.
Ladyhawk, thank you so much! I'll be having some of your plum jam on the bread I made this evening, for breakfast :j . Re leaving your cooker on (glad you didn't, after all), when you're older you'll be allowed to have a sign inside the front door 'Keys, lights, cooker, windows' etc, and no-one will think it strange ;)

    My 5

    1. Meeting dear Ladyhawk, the first person I've ever met from MSE and if they're all as lovely as her I want to meet everyone :D
    2. The pears on the tree overhanging my neighbours garden are ripening beautifully. Made an apple and pear crumble this evening which is now in the freezer for the next time I have visitors
    3. Postie brought me a tube of baby lotion to trial. I'd finished a trial moisturiser yesterday (which I'd been using for a year) so it came just at the right time
    4. DNeighbours birthday today, we had a little tea before her sisters and their families visited with gifts for her.
    5. Watched Small Teen, Big World. What a beautiful, loving relationship the mum and daughter have even if she is a normal 16 year old :D
    6. The penny phone call. Not the best today but still a blessing to be able to keep in touch with my lovely friend

    Night night, (((hugs))) everyone

  • Mine for the day to come:

1 Mean to go running.I'm managing 30 minutes only, but it's better than nothing.

2 That pedicure!I've decided to put a little money aside each week for a pedicure so I can have one every 4 months or so.It is definitely worth the money, and something I am hopeless at doing myself.

3 Make some more jam with the last of the marrow.Been promised another marrow next week.

4 I have a loyalty card with a certain pharmacy and you usually get 10% off all non-prescription items. On the 10th of the month you get an extra 10% off that.I'm off today to stock up on various things.

5 Making soup with a butternut squash I bought a while back.

Ladyhawk I steam the marrow until it's cooked but still holds its shape. Then I mash it with a potato-masher.There's a bit of liquid, but not a huge amount.
Glad that your hard work is recognized!
And how nice to have a 'meet-up' with sparrer.

Frith glad your day went well

Blimus some people are so inconsiderate (and rude)!

sparrer forgot to say that I also recycle the paper labels that I soak off jars.So you are not alone, and it is definitely not odd!

Wishing you all a good day :)
