NCIS - Gibbs is very sexy :)

HANDS OFF - HE'S MINE!! (along with DiNozzo - oh, to be the filling in that particular sandwich....)
Don't! You are putting all sorts of naughty ideas in my head! :D

So... today... did I actually do anything except get annoyed with my boss for sending me annoying emails while he was supposed to be on holiday?

1) I had 3 caramel doughnuts :o and they were YUMMY!! And as they were free samples they didn't have any calories in them

2) Submitting my expenses which I have been meaning to do for a few weeks

3) Telling a miserable colleague that he was indeed miserable! I am doing a presentation to one of our senior clients who is coming across from the States next week and had put a couple of cartoon characters on one slide as that particular slide is rather boring. He thought that "they diminish the entire presentation". I am inclined to leave them in now! He really is a grumpy old man (and he is only 31!)

4) Nice walk at lunch time to the bank to deposit Eamonn the Moneypig's contents.

5) Sent out th invitations to my birthday drinks next month. As usual my brothers' conveniently have other plans that weekend... as they do everytime I have a party. It really hacks me off that they never bother to come. I know it shouldn't because we are not particularly close but it is hurtful. I nearly sent my middle brother a very stroppy email back when he said he couldn't make it but resisted it for a change. I won't let them know that it bothers me.

Night all... sleep well

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
• Hi all, thanks for your birthday messages :)

Mine for today:
1) waking up early and getting an hour of Wii Fit
2) cuddles from dd
3) Bristol Balloon Fiesta Day 1! Although v. cloudy, just a sprinkle of rain today
4) wandering around the Fiesta stands with dp, dd and work friend and grabbing freebies. Having a play with an iPad, enjoying the Milka chocolate fountain plus free chocolate bar (I haven't eaten it...yet)
5) dd finding the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse tour stand, hopefully she'll be brave enough to queue for a photo with Mickey tomorrow
6) Chinese takeaway for tea!

Evening all.

Ladyhawk - I like your thinking on the doughnuts. ;) Caramel ones sound yummy, too.

Caterina - what clever and kind cats you've got, bringing you a present. :T I must admit I'm glad mine's not into hunting, though. :)

house elf - hope you're feeling brighter today and getting over your illness.

Acey / Frith - I've just noticed your new name as I'm typing this. I'm glad to see you've got that sorted out.

My pleasures for today:

1) Finally finished wading through a very long, very dull report which I've been summarising for my manager so she doesn't have to wade through it all when she gets back from holiday next week. She'd better be grateful! :p

2) The weather forecast for the weekend's pretty unpleasant, so I'm planning a weekend of making things. I spent several odd moments today working out exactly what I'm going to make - banana cake, my first ever attempt at HM jam, bread rolls for next week's lunches, and a rubber chicken are all on the plan so far. :)

3) Arranged with my dad to get a lift with him to see my grandmother when he goes next week.

4) Picked my first HG tomato of the year. :j

5) Worked out a mealplan for the rest of the month that makes use of what's in the freezer and cupboards - my bank balance looks decidely worse-for-wear after getting my car fixed, and I've still got several big bills to pay this month. It's times like this I'm pleased that I always keep well stocked with food.

Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
• Sorry about your brothers Ladyhawk. We have the same problem with some of our relatives - we've been in this house two years and some of them didn't even visit the last one - but it really is their loss if they let go of their family ties. Happy nth Birthday when it comes.

1) Made some Sweet Courgette and Plum Preserve and surprisingly, it tastes yummy. I'm going to test it on DS, without telling him what's in it, in a few minutes.
2) Did my usual Thursday morning clean and tidy and am now enjoying the results.
3) Found some really lovely silver-coloured earrings in Oxfam. I actually bought them for myself but they've got just exactly the right shade of blue in for my Thursday lunchtime coffee friend so they may have to be put away for Christmas. We buy each other a tiny present each year and that might be just right.
4) Did some more digging. The enormous compost heap at the end of the garden (15 foot deep, been a compost heap since 1956, apparently) is covered in 'bark chippings' so I dug some of the good soil out and put in in another part of the garden with the chippings on top. Emptied the second compost bin too.
5) Used some of our potatoes for tea. They make amazing oven chips.

I can relate to this as well, Patchwork Quilt and Ladyhawk. Somehow you always hope that they will be more as you'd like them to be, even though, (in my case, anyway) you know that probably won't ever happen. As PQ says, though, it's their loss. Familes, eh? Makes me really value my friends.

Evening all. Am determined to get an earlier night's sleep tonight.

My five for Thursday:

1. A neighbour told me my brake lights seemed not to be working when I parked outside the house last night so I rang the garage and got booked in for first thing this morning. Managed to get me and DS2 there for 8.30 and they fixed everything on the spot, so cheaply that I paid with cash I had in my purse (that's a first for a garage bill!) and in time for me to drive DS2 to his course on time. Am pleased with myself for getting this fixed so promptly.

2. Really lovely long morning in the library looking at original documents from WWI and other stuff.

3. Late picnic lunch on some steps outside in the sunshine then went to the bookshop cafe for a coffee (couldn't take a thermos with me today) and sat and read a £50  book (without buying it) that the library hasn't got in its stock yet. The bookshop don't worry about customers reading providing books don't get damaged. It's very useful.:)

4. On the drive to collect DS1 from his gf's house this evening the sky was all apricot and grey and the stubble in the fields was covered in blankets of mist from the rain earlier on. Beautiful.

5. And... this made me laugh out loud. DS1 appeared, proudly bearing a gift of, yes, you've guessed it... another courgette from gf's garden and he said it was the smallest one they had. I don't think they've been picking them because this is over 3kg in weight and shouldn't be called a courgette. Guess who's making courgette (marrow) and ginger jam this weekend?

Sweet dreams

B x

Well, I'm pleased to report today has been the nicest day I've had for ages - possibly years :-) I'll have to try and remember this when everything is going wrong.

1) Had a lie in.

2) Went to see the cranial osteopath for smaller son and that went well.

3) Got home and prepared to go on a bike ride with neighbour and 3 of his sons (and my sons). Bigger son came running in and said neighbour had found a bike behind the village big recycling bins! We left a note in the shop incase anyone claims it but, if not, I now have a bike! Its a mountain bike too.

4) Went for a bike ride in the local forest. I had 4 boys in my car and neighbour had 1 boy and 7 bikes in/on his car. It would be fair to say I had been quite worried about this bike ride. I hadn't even been on a bike for 14 years and back then I was 21, weighed 2 stone less than I do now and was fitter! Anyway, it was about an hour each way and fab. We stopped by a little stream for our lunch and the boys played really well (lots of racing about) and we probably sat there for well over an hour in the sunshine.

5) Got home (wobbly legs and a numb bum) and started making a pie so made one for neighbours and we had tea over there. We've just got back really as we were watching the meteor showers, sitting at some very odd angles on the garden chairs!

All in all, a very good day. :-)

• Girlysquare - We are going to try and find the time to go to the balloon fiesta this year. DD is a HUGE Mickey mouse clubhouse fan and would love her to "meet" him in person! I haven't been up to the fiesta in years, although I grew up in Ashton, so used to go all the time and used to LOVE all the freebie balloons, keyrings, pens and stickers etc :D

My pleasures for yesterday:
- A free trip to Brands Hatch thanks to Motability. They had a fun day showing lots of new cars with handcontrols. I might having a new type of hand control in my new car this year with a fancy indicator switch on it (small things please little minds! ;)) We got to see some racing cars going round the track too, it was a great day out and cost nothing.
- Getting my freebie fix at above event :D. Mousemat, numerous stationery items, balloons for DD, DVDs and loads more.
- Finding a lovely little pub for lunch that served the best meal I have had in ages.
- Not buying any sweets or chocolate when we stopped at the service station eventhough I was sorely tempted.
- My parents looking after our dog for us for a few days.
