Blimey, its cold!
Well done to the toaster and oven repair ladies, always good to get something working again.
5 for today.
1) Got house neat and tidy.
2) Went to the Merry Hill Centre and actually bought what I went there for instead of getting bored and driving off! Swimming noseclips, new school PE kit and some trousers for me.
3) Went to see my Uncle Bert who is 91. Don't see him very often and he helped me with my family tree. His mum was one of 17 and in the generation before that, there were 22! He had 2 Aunty Comforts and an Aunty Happy, which can't be bad. :-D If anyone in the Black Country has the surname Flavell, do get in touch as we will be related!
4) Stopped to get the new wine yeast I needed and 2 new bungs on the way home.
5) Picked a stock pot full of blackberries for the wine I shall make tomorrow.
6) Had a chat with my neighbour.
Freezing here so I am going to have a hot bath now then watch Holby City on iplayer when I'm in bed. I've put it on ready every night since Tuesday but keep falling asleep.0 -
Hi, hope all having a good weekend. My five are
1. Making blackberry and apple cake also a couple of tealoaves which keep well.
2. A NSD, DS2 didn't want to go out.
3. Sorted out some clothes and took some to be recycled and cut others up for cloths.
4. Watching sport on tv while meal planning.
5. The cup of coffee after the dog walk where I got soaked and also coming back to a hoovered downstairs .0 -
Hi all
1- Sun is shining
2-Washing is on the line
3-Dinner in oven from storecupboard ingredients
4-De-cluttering the house and its looking lovely and tidy
5-Found some old PS2 games while tiding up bedroom now on ebay0 -
Hi all
Not here yesterday as I am keeping to my plan to have occasional PC-free days, but I am always here in spirit!
Here are a few pleasures for the weekend:
1 - Breakfast in bed on both days, courtesy of DH
2 - Yesterday we had the allotment open day (entrance and cake sale profits go to charity), so I spent the morning baking soda bread and soda scones (wholemeal spelt organic vegan fat-free - so PC that you could hear them whispering the Equal Opportunities Act while you ate them! hehe). They sold literally like hot cakes! I priced the loaves at £2 each and the scones, served with butter and jam, at £1 each, so I hope I have contributed quite a bit to the charity sale!
3 - Lots of friends of mine came to see the allotment and complimented us all on all the work we have done, considering we have only had it for less than 3 months! Photos to follow, after today's event - see below:
4 - Today we will go to the allotment holders barbecue, not open to the public, where I am planning to get DH to use his photographic skills and his fancy camera, then I shall post the pics here.
5 - Dinner yesterday was at friends, lovely food and happy company.
6 - DD's BF has been offer a trial job for a month as sub-chef in a local pub kitchen - 6 days per week and long hours but it will be good for his experience in catering, which is what he wants, regular salary (the pub is part of a large organisation so there is not going to be any mucking about re. conditions of service) and pay a little above minimum wage, which is better than right on the dot of minimum wage. He is delighted and so are we all, for him.
Have a good rest of the weekend everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi Everyone,
Caterina - Congrats to DD's BF.:j Hope the trial goes well.
Been so long since I listed some pleasures, I will have to list some recent ones!
1. Just got back from a dog walk to our friends house to let the dogs out. Lovely sunshine. DS2 brought his bike. Along the way we collected a bag of blackberries, a nice rectangular plate from a pile of crockery someone had put out and 3 eggs from the hens when we got to our friends house. (Our reward for checking on the dogs).
2. Trip to Liverpool to visit DM was OK as she was in a good mood.
3. Stopped off at Cheshire Oaks to buy DS2 school shoes.
4. Free tickets to the cinema for DS2 and me to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
5. Spent Friday afternoon trying to devise a maths Trail for school at a local Art Centre. DS2 helped. Met one of the 6th form who left in July and she didn't avoid me!!! Lovely girl, I will miss her.:(
6. Have been trying to list lots of stuff on Flea Bay and I have some bids already. Hope this will de-clutter, tidy up and pay for hair cuts all round!!!! I am ever hopeful!
7. Lunch was quiche with home grown lettuce leaves and mango lassi made with HM yoghurt.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. HE xXx0 -
Afternoon all.
Caterina - that's great news about your DD's BF - I really hope the trial goes well. And thanks for reminding me of spelt bread - I made some last year when I got some spelt flour on special offer, and it was great stuff. I'll have to see if I can find some more and make it again.
villagelife - your blackberry and apple cake sounds lovely. Would you by any chance have a recipe, please?
carolinerunner - well done on repairing your toaster. 20 years old and still going isn't bad, is it?
funkymonkey - a friend of mine grew pumpkins last year and had exactly the same problem, except he's only got a tiny garden and had to keep beating back the plants to stop them crawling in through the kitchen door! :rotfl: I hope your pumpkins are really tasty, to make up for losing your veg patch to them.
Ladyhawk - well done on fixing your oven - aren't you clever? :T I wouldn't know where to start fixing something like that!
KarleyMarie - congratulations to your cousin.
parsonswife - I haven't had mince curry in ages. It's one of my favourites, so thanks very much for reminding me.
My pleasures for today:
1) HM bread with HM jam for breakfast.I spoke to my DM on the phone a bit afterwards and she's terribly impressed that I made my own jam - maternal approval is a wonderful thing.
(Particularly as it was my mum who taught me to make jam in the first place.
)
2) My lettuces are sprouting - looks like I've finally got a batch that are going to grow. :j
3) My first French bean is ready to pick. One bean won't go far, of course, but it's still nice.
4) HM spicy chicken and bacon pasty for dinner tonight, with the spice coming from my first HG chilli of the year.
5) Changed the bed (once the cat got off it) so I'll have nice clean sheets when I get home from the pub quiz tonight.
Have a lovely evening, everyone, and hopefully a decent Monday, too.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all, funkymonkey - a friend of mine grew pumpkins last year and had exactly the same problem, except he's only got a tiny garden and had to keep beating back the plants to stop them crawling in through the kitchen door! :rotfl: I hope your pumpkins are really tasty, to make up for losing your veg patch to them.
Ladyhawk - well done on fixing your oven - aren't you clever? :T I wouldn't know where to start fixing something like that!
Lol CCP at the image of your friend beating bak the pumpkins... A bit Little Shop of Horror, no?
And thanks for the congrats on the oven - I was very surprised that I managed to do it, but the nice man in the shop explained how to change the element and luckily my oven is very easy to mend.
1) Made two batches of jam before 10am - 1 strawberry and one red/blackcurrant
2) Made 3 fish pies this afternoon
3) Chatted to an old school friend on Facebook. She is living in Kiev at the moment and is suffering in the heat... apparently it was 39 degrees today. We could do with some of that!
4) Am making a loaf of banana bread in the BM
5) Popped into Mr A on the way back from town (where I didn't buy anything) and picked up a few whoopsies and returned a pair of pillow cases.
6) Some of my tomatoes are taking on a distinctly orangey hue...:j
Enjoy your evening... and have a wonderful week. Sadly the boss is back tomorrow and I have my first pricing meeting on Tuesday which I am a little worried about. Basically I have to stand in front of my commercial director and justify my pricing for the next 6 months, which is fine... except she is notoriously difficult to please and would not think twice about completely humilating me if I got something wrong. You are not allowed to get things wrong!
Night
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Broomstick wrote: »My five for Tuesday:
1. Veggiebox arrived with - yes, you've guessed it, more courgettes (anyone got a courgette cake recipe, like carrot cake, haven't tried that yet?) - but also some corn on the cob - first this year, an unexpected surprise and such a treat.
2. Morning doing some searching for work-related books in secondhand bookshops. Lovely to have the time for this.
3. Then library time - bliss.
4. Cheese omelette, steamed spuds, sweet corn, green salad with mustard dressing and HM apple juice for supper. Really plain food but organic and very fresh and truly scrumptious. I feel lucky to have food like this.
5. Catching up with a friend on the phone.
Sweet dreams
