Rats! I meant to be in bed much sooner.
My quick five for Monday:
1. Getting tons of books ordered at the library so should be able to have a lovely time tomorrow and Wednesday looking at those.
2. Hearing all about the children's (happy) busy days when I collected them and they both really wanted to talk lots.
3. Catching up on the Amish programmes on the C4 website.
4. Loving keeping my kitchen clean, tidy and sorted - I'm still managing to do this.
5. Getting much more uninterrupted time to myself today.
Sweet dreams everyone

My five are for the past few days are
1. DS2 managing to find a bit of work in the holidays.
2. Watching a combine harvesting a field - fascinating how it works.
3. 2 NSD's over the weekend.
4. DS2 friend staying and hearing them have fun.
5. DS1 arriving home after a night in London and being chatty.
6. Managing to just buy veg, fruit and bread from supermarket and eating the rest from the storecupboard.
7. Speaking to a friend on the phone.0 -
Here are my pleasures for the last couple of days:
- Yummy Rib of beef for sunday lunch, which is a real treat but is one of my favourite meals.
- Eating cherry tomatoes like sweets straight from the bag. My parents and I did a food swap, they gave me some homegrown tomatoes and runner beans for a jar of my strawberry jam.
- Unintentional NSD yesterday. DD's pushchair was in the car with DH while he went to Surrey, so we were stuck at home unable to go to the shops as planned
- Started the spring clean of the kitchen. I want to give it a proper good scrub and tidy from top to bottom as it looks a bit shabby in places.
- DH bought me a present to cheer me up after feeling down last week. It is an indian spice tin with the little containers inside for all the curry spices from here, its something that I have wanted for a long time. Be warned that website is very tempting and full of kitchen gadgets you didn't think you needed - a coconut scraper or revolving pickle server anyone?:rotfl:But that website does have a great indian recipes section that I will be using for inspiration.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

-400g peanuts-I use unsalted peanuts with their skins on,you might prefer salted,as was suggested.
-a couple tbsp honey/golden syrup
-3 to 4 tbsp sunflower oil
Put the peanuts in a blender and slowly add the other ingredients til you get the desired consistency/taste.Keep in a jar in the fridge.
I've made it twice so far,and it's gone quickly! The first time with honey and sunflower oil,and the second time with golden syrup and flaxseed oil.TBH I can't taste a difference between to two varieties.I ended up putting in 3 to 4 tbsp honey/golden syrup and about 5 tbsp oil. It's not as 'sticky' as shop bought, but I didn't want to put in any more liquid as it's already so calorie-laden.I did wonder about adding a small quantity of water.
I'd like to work out the price compared to the organic one I usually buy. It's just as good IMO.I'm thinking of trying almond butter.
Let me know how it turns out!:)
Well,I've just decanted the peanut butter that I made yesterday, and added 25mls of water.I mixed it all together, and now the pb is stickier and easier to spread.
I forgot to say that once I'd blitzed the peanuts in the blender,I emptied them into a bowl, added the syrup and oil and mixed by hand.It was less messy than doing it the blender.
Next time I make it,I'll try and add less oil and a drop more water!
Yesterday was a good day;I made about 3kgs of apricot jam.So I now have 6kgs of apricot jam,2kgs of cherry jam and2kgs of fruits of the forest jam.Mmmm,I wonder if this is enough?
So today
1-the washing is outside drying
2-I have acquired a small bookcase that was being put out by a neighbour.I just don't know where to put it-I have a very small flat.
3-It's a lovely day again and not too hot.
4-I might try to make some tomato chutney-first time!
5-I really do want to get on with my book!
Thanks for the welcome,I don't know if I'll manage to come on here every day,but it's always interesting reading.0 -

Hi Everyone,
Firstly - WD Juliethemuse on your stroke of luck.
Marmite - you sound like me - I can't resist giving random bits of furniture a new home even though I live in a small flat!
Molly - WD on the spring clean... you hve made me feel guilty... almost...
Villagelife - WD on the NSD's and the restraint in only buying the essentials
Broomstick - WD on keepingthe kitchen clean and tidy. you ladies are really putting my to shame! And thank you for your kind words of encoragement on my blanket knitting. I just have to remember that the rustic look is perfectly accepable and being completely uniform would be boring!
Patchwork - hmmm... the Flora of Greater Bulgaria would not be on my list of hot topics to have a lecture on! Hopefully you will be able to get some more... um... relevant speakers to your next event.
So onto my pleasures today...
1) Walk into town at lunchtime
2) NSD
3) The cake that I made last night in the BM wasn't as bad as I feared and made a nice mid morning snack
4) I only have 18 emails in my inbox at work... it is usually way over 100 so I am feeling in control... pity my to do list is still so long...
5) The nice lady that sits opposite me shared her caramel snackerjacks with my this afternoon... they were a little chewy but I still managed to eat 4!
Have a lovely evening everyone and a wonderful Wednesday.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Just a quickie to say Hi :hello: to everyone, missing you and all your posts like mad! I eventually got sorted out with a dingly dangly dongly thingy but it's payg so horrendously expensive . Just to say I'm thinking of you all and looking forward to being back in the family of happy 5 OS'ers after the weekend - but the kidlets and I are having the most amazing holiday so may just ask for donations so we can stay another week
Night night, sweet dreams, take care

My five for Tuesday:
1. Veggiebox arrived with - yes, you've guessed it, more courgettes (anyone got a courgette cake recipe, like carrot cake, haven't tried that yet?) - but also some corn on the cob - first this year, an unexpected surprise and such a treat.
2. Morning doing some searching for work-related books in secondhand bookshops. Lovely to have the time for this.
3. Then library time - bliss.
4. Cheese omelette, steamed spuds, sweet corn, green salad with mustard dressing and HM apple juice for supper. Really plain food but organic and very fresh and truly scrumptious. I feel lucky to have food like this.
5. Catching up with a friend on the phone.
Sweet dreams

My five for yesterday
1. Being given some tomatoes and runner beans.
2. Making HM fish pie for tea and having LO mashed potatoes to fry up this evening.
3. The rain, at least I didn't have to water.
4. DS1 coming home with a friend and having a long chat with them both.
5. Watching sparrows in the back garden whilst washing up.
6. Taking lunch into work - so much nicer than buying it, cheaper and probably quicker as I don' need to walk to shop and queue!0
