Hi all
A bit of a sad start of the day today, DD's lovely BF has just lost his job, he was a trainee and after more than one year they did not give him enough support, so he kept making mistakes (he was being ordered left right and centre by all and sundry and always given conflicting instruction). He is devastated, this morning he had tears in his eyes when he told me and I was crying with him, so upset I was for him! But he is a great guy and I am sure he will find something new and better (cross fingers).
Mummysaver, so good to see you back here!
Ladyhawk, hope your tummy gets better soon.
Savingforoz, I love hearing about your curries, makes me hungry every time! Are you still working, if so when do you stop? I bet you can't wait now! Good luck with your foster cats' permanent placement opportunity.
marmiterulesok - love the name! Thank you for the peanut butter recipe, I shall try it as in my household peanut butter goes very quick too. Incidentally, peanut butter with marmite is gorgeous (unsweetened)! If you so love marmite you GOTTA join the love party, here is the link, we are all members in myfamily: http://www.facebook.com/Marmite
house elf, welcome back, sorry to hear about food poisoning in posh burger joint - if you can definitely attribute the sickness to the place you might be able to go and complain, and at least get a refund for the meal! Hope you get better soon.
Here are some pleasures for today:
1 - Breakfast with DH, ate some stewed rhubarb from the allotment (cooked yesterday and cooled down) with soya yogurt.
2 - The sun is shining, it makes a difference to the mood (even if a bit down, the good weather makes everything that little more bearable).
3 - Although I dragged myself to work, I had an opportunity to go to the post office, by mistake I went to a very far one so I had a nice - if unplanned - long walk there and back.
4 - Because we still do not have phones in the office I came back home after lunchtime to finish some work that required me to use the phone to chase some suppliers.
5 - DD and her BF were home when I got here and we had a bowl of soup together.
6 - One of the best sides of being in work is that I have a bit of extra money so I offered DD's BF a few hours work chopping wood for our woodstove. I am glad I can help him at least a little bit, poor kid!
7 - After chasing the suppliers I no longer have anything to do so I am signing off work early!
Have a good evening everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Caterina v. v. belated happy birthday! Hoping things soon look up for your dd's bf
My 5+ for the past few days:
1) starting a week off work
2) breakfast in bed courtesy dp
3) cuddles from dd
4) dd enjoying her birthday party yesterday (it's her birthday this Friday)
5) chatting with a friend at dd's party, we hadn't seen each other for a few months. Also bumped into a work colleague I hadn't seen for years, she was bringing her children to another birthday party at the same venue
6) managing to spend some time on the Wii Fit every day
7) getting a good night's sleep most of the time recently, probably due to exercising again
8) The Gadget Show starting again
9) making a wish list for my birthday (tomorrow)
10) looking forward to a trip into town tomorrow for a haircut and some very non-mse retail therapy
11) reading Wedlock: How Georgian Britain's Worst Husband Met His Match by Wendy Moore, and being amazed by what could happen to women in Georgian times"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright0 -
Caterina, so sorry to hear about DD's BF - I hope something comes along. I finish work at the end of September.
I agree that marmiterulesok is a splendiferous name (and Marmite itself is splendiferous too!)
Girlysquare, did you see the fabulous fireworks at the Harbour Festival? And let's hope this miserable weather clears up for the Balloon Fiesta this weekend.
My 5 for today:
1. Getting some trousers for my trip - they're convertibles, so I can zip off the legs and voila! I have shorts.
2. Getting more travel jabs done - OK, that wasn't a pleasure, but it's one more thing done towards my trip. Eight jabs down, two to go...
3. My lovely foster cats finding a wonderful new home. I'd had them for nearly 4 months and will miss them, but I can now crack on with cleaning my carpets ready for when I move out.
4. Treating myself to the latest version of some software. Some girls like shoes, some like handbags - me, I like fancy software...geeky or what?!
5. Going cat-sitting for my friends and seeing their four lovely feline friends.
6. Getting a message to tell me that my Thai and Vietnamese visas have been granted and I should get my passport back soon. Just need to get the Myanmar visa now.
Bye for now xLife is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Evening all.
Here's my five for today:
1) Bought my ticket to the beer festival, which I agreed with friends last night we're going to this year.
2) Worked out how to back up the contents of my mobile phone so (hopefully) I don't lose anything when I get my new one shortly.
3) Made a loaf of cheese and onion bread - from a packet mix, but still
4) Aiming for an early night as I didn't sleep well last night.
5) Monday's over and done with for another week.
Caterina - that's dreadful news about your DD's BF. I hope he gets a really nice new job to make up for being treated so badly in this one.
house elf - poor you, getting food poisoning on holiday!I hope you recover quickly.
marmiterulesok - thanks for the peanut butter recipe. I've fancied making my own nut butter for a while, but didn't know where to start - now I do, so thank you.
Sorry, must go - my computer's giving me "help, I'm dying" signals, and I don't want to lose this post...Back after a very long break!0 -

Good news and bad news from here. Bad news is that a colleague of my dad and brother fell down the stairs yesterday. We don't know if she was poorly and that is why she fell (not very old). She went to hospital but died. Because it is all small villages round here, she was the sister in law of the witness I had at my wedding and her granddaughter is in the year above bigger son at the local school.
5 for today.
1) Changing the bed, doing lots of loads of washing and getting nearly all of it dry (just a rug in the dryer now).
2) Having some homemade lentil and tomato soup for lunch.
3) Boys were at their father's from 10-2. When they got back, my brother took bigger son for his first ever tennis lesson (brother taught him as he is in a club and quite good). After that we all went swimming.
4) Playing on the village hall car park on bikes and with some little planes sons had that ping into the sky when you fire them from an elastic band.
5) Neighbour giving me a ring (am looking after his cat) and my mum and sister also ringing for a chat. And the rather sad phone call from dad about his colleague - its VERY rare dad has a chat on the phone.
6) Picking blackberries for a crumble tomorrow.
7) Mum offering me some help towards having the crumbly end wall/chimney of my cottage mended. I think it will be a VERY long job, you can actually stand outside and see through into the chimney in places, that's how awful the brickwork is!
8) Am feeling a bit under the weather with a sore throat so am looking forward to a bath and bed, listening to the torrential rain and will have Just a Minute on iplayer.
Goodnight, all.0 -
Evening all,
Quick one from me tonight as I am sleepy... I struggled to sleep last night as I had sucha sore tummy. It is all better today and I still don't know what it was...
1) Found some yummy strawbs at @sda at lunch time for 65p per punnet and I prepared them this evening to make into jam when I get round to it.
2) made a cake in the bread maker... but sure if it was particuarly successful, it it is cake none the less and I might just have it with custard as it is a little dry.
3) Enjoyed "Who do you think you are" this evening with Monty Don.
4) Finished another square!
5) Got a smarty pants email from one of our directors this afternoon which I was really annoyed by... the pleasure was writing the response that was polite but still got my point across and basically told him to keep his sticky beak to himself. He replied apologising for doubting my decision. Ha!
Anyway beddy byes now.
Sleep tight
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
1) Got some work done this morning that leaked into this afternoon, following a good think, but I can now cross it off my list.
2) Started digging my vegetable patch in the garden. I know there's still a couple of tons of gravel and plastic bags to move, but this is more exciting!
3) Went to the Gardeners' Association Committee meeting. The bad news is that I am now on the tea rota but the good news is that other people agree with me that the monthly meetings are rather esoteric. I haven't got time to sit through presentations on The Flora of Greater Bulgaria but I would really appreciate someone coming to tell us how to run a productive allotment or how to make the most of a greenhouse. New speakers may be found.
4) Rang my friend this evening. She is going in tomorrow to have her tummy flap removed! I must admit that I encouraged her, so I'll feel guilty if it turns out badly but she has lost four stone over the last few years but she still couldn't fit her belly into her jeans because of the flab. She was obsessing about it a bit so I told her to at least find out about it and tomorrow it will be history.
5) Rang my Mum too. It's hard to catch her in, these days. Had a good chat, at last.
And a sneaky 6th - our Godchildren came at the weekend for the first time in ages. We had a large lunch, went to the park, got soaked on the way back and then had a large tea. Spent ages talking to their Mum (my cousin) and listening to all four of our children sing and play a song they had practised during the afternoon. I feel very grateful.0 -
1) Had a lie-in. Nice. Day off#1.
2) Blitzed my kitchen - a job I quite enjoy, actually - how sad am I?
3) Enjoyed company of DGD and neighbours` kids this afternoon. Noisy, very noisy, but happy noise today, not always so when they start falling out!
4) Made a lovely supper - fresh corncobs from farmshop (messy tho`!) with some garlicky pork loin, thrown into a quick-fry buttery mushroom and courgette concoction, so no butter on the corn as it wasn`t necessary. Yum.
5) `Nother lie -in tomorrow (day off), free to potter and shop and meal plan. By the time I`ve done that stuff I`ll be glad to get back to work!0
