    So tired - here's my 5!

    1) Went to see my friend in town. She has a 6 month old and is 3 months pregnant. :-)

    2) Last day of school!

    3) Bigger son went to a birthday party inc Pizza Hut then the cinema. He is still excited that he and the other boys went from Pizza Hut to the film - in a taxi! It costs so much just to call a taxi out to our house that I have not been in one since I was at Uni and my sons have never been in one at all. He said it was a proper taxi like in London :-D

    4) After we dropped bigger son off, smaller son and I went to my sister's birthday party and had a curry. Lovely in my sister's garden where smaller son spent ages folding my brother up in a garden chair and playing in my sister's tent.

    5) Left mum and dad with instructions to pick bigger son up after his friend's party and smaller son and I went to Beavers! Smaller son was enrolled and actually read out his promise, albeit in a tiny voice and at top speed.

    6) All got home eventually and we all had a bath and have been sitting in my bed watching Private Life of Pigs on iplayer.

    Goodnight all!

    Evening all,

I have been a bad girl today... I was supposed to be working from home this morning and need to confess... that I only responded to 3 emails and 3 phone calls and didn't do the reading I was supposed to do... bad, bad girl!

    sooo....

    1) working from home this morning :D I got my washing done and cleaned the kitchen. I also had a go at drilling a hole in my bedroom wall to rehang my curtain rod... alas I just made a big mess.

    2) Went to a photoshoot this afternoon for work. We were in a roof top garden in South London with fantastic views over the city. All well and good until they made me pose next to the railing... as we were on the 10th floor I did not enjoy that!! I hope at least one of them comes out ok as it is going to be on the front page of our new website.

    3) Pootling around Oxford street... and NOT buying anything!!! I had a number of items in my hand but I put them all back :) I am so impressed with my restraint!

    4) NSD - oops... no it wasn't - just remembered that I had a Subway sandwich

    5) Drinks with some friends from Sheffield who were both made redundant last year and who have decided to move to Ecuador... random! I stuck to soda water so as to not spend any money.

    Night night... sleep tight...

just a brief but slow one as I'm typing with my right hand - my left hand is holding the plug into the laptop socket as I think the cable inside has broken and it'll one stay connected in one position
    1. Still no rain albeit much cooler, the garden wasn't wilting quite so badly by watering time
    2. Postie brought me lots of cards and a cheque or two:j. I shouldn't really open them til Sunday but if I hadn't they'd be put on the pile and forgotten. That's my story anyway ;) . She also brought me a table cloth I'd ordered, it's got big, beautiful, bright yellow sunflowers all over it....so pretty :D
    3. A young friend called in unexpectedly, was lovely to see her. We chatted and put the world to rights over tea and chocolate brioche
(this isn't easy my right hand isn't used to doing the bits my left hand usually does :rotfl:)
    4. did a mini shop in Mr M's and found several of the things I wanted were reduced :D
5 Bought the winning lottery ticket for Saturday :T. A girl can dream.....
    night night sweet dreams

    Here's my five for yesterday:

    1. Seeing 2 green woodpeckers on the front lawn as I left the house for work. I'm sorry to say I startled them as I didn't know they were there until I got outside!
    2. Being privileged to watch a "free" air show. Where I work we can see the skies above a nearby RAF base and the Red Arrows put on a full performance (coloured jetstreams and everything!) above our town. Beautiful, and it brought a lump to my throat.
    3. We later found out it was a Battle of Britain related show and were incredibly privileged to see the spitfires and the Lancaster fly over in mid-afternoon.
    4. Getting home a bit earlier. It's nice when the bus is crowded but runs to time so I got home 15 minutes earlier than normal.
    5. A cup of tea waiting for me when I got in. :):):)

Sparrer - many a problem has been solved by a cup of tea and a chocolate brioche. I have experiences of that! Nice one.
Ladyhawk - well done not spending anything! I would have bought lots - I know myself too well.

    KB xx

    Evening all.

Sorry I haven't been posting recently - I've been feeling a bit down and the daily struggle to think of pleasures was just making me feel more miserable. I've had a very nice couple of days, though, so here's my pleasures:

    Friday:

    1) My flat desperately needs redecorating and, after several requests, my landlord has sheepishly admitted he can't afford to do it at the moment. As a compromise he's now offered to cut my rent for a month if I do it myself, which seems a pretty good idea to me.

    2) Half day as we had a 'staff training exercise' - my boss's term for going to the pub. ;)

    3) Then went out with some of the ladies from the office to celebrate one's forthcoming wedding. We sat outside a pub in the sunshine and it was very pleasant indeed.

    4) I had a very cheap evening as I was still full from lunch and didn't want to eat dinner - the others wouldn't let me pay a share of the bill, even though I'd been drinking from the shared jug of sangria, as 'it would have gone to waste otherwise'. I don't understand the logic, but I was very grateful for their generosity. :)

    5) The husband of one of the ladies very kindly gave me a lift home so I didn't have to mess around with taxis late at night.

    Today:

    1) Nice lie-in this morning (no, I wasn't hungover, despite the sangria!)

    2) Walked back to town in the sunshine to retrieve my car from the work car park.

    3) The first of my home grown tomatoes are just starting to change colour. :j

    4) Had a nice chat to my younger sister, who passed on an offer from her boyfriend, who's a professional painter / plasterer, to decorate my flat for me if I buy him beer when he's finished. :)

    5) Fakeout night tonight - my first ever entirely HM curry (i.e. not using a ready-made sauce) - fingers crossed it works!

    Have a lovely evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening all,

CCP - sorry to hear that you are having a bit of a rough time at the moment. Sounds like you have got yourself a bargain on the redecoration of the flat!!

KB - WOW! Lucky you getting to watch the air display for free... sounds pretty amazing.

Sparrer -:bdaycake:HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!! Have a lovely day tomorrow. I can't believe the raining has been missing you... we have had a few very damp afternoons just down the road. Obviously I do believe you... argh you know what I mean!!

    1) NSD - a proper one today!

    2) Meeting a friend who moved out to Oman a couple of years ago for lunch and he paid! :)

    3) He had a kids with him and I definitely made friends with his 5 year old... who kept dashing out of the play area to give me a hug and insisted on sitting next to me to eat her ice cream... and insisted on holding my hand when we left. I normally don't get on with kids so it was really sweet. Ok she is like that with everyone apparently but I was touched none the less!

    4) Mr Virgin Media (no not Richard Branson!) came round to install my broadband, TV and phone. I am struggling to get it set up on my laptop as my ethernet port is dodgy ( I thought of you, Sparrer, when I was typing with my right hand and holding the connection in with my left!)

    5) I have a sparkley clean flat! LOVELY!!!

    6) Went to collect a cordless drill from some nice people in Harpenden... got a nice note from them thanking me for the HM jam I gave them.

    7) 8 home grown strawberries from the garden for brekkie... with a not so home grown mango

    8) A little late afternoon snooze... which was just what I needed.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

  • 1) Went to a craft fair this morning. So many lovely things and all of them very well made. Didn't buy anything apart from some cards from a friend's stall but i was very tempted to make them an offer for a tablecloth. They were using vintage china and embroidered table cloths in the cafe down the centre of the hall and there was one really lovely cloth done in tiny chainstitches.
    2) DH shared the chocolate that DS and his gf brought back from Youth Hostelling.
    3) My subscription magazine came this morning, so was able to put my feet up and read for a while.
    4) Made a proper meal this evening - coq au vin again - with various home grown veg added in. We had a very sociable half hour as I was preparing it - DS was cracking walnuts for the flapjack, gf cut the lettuce and DH was on the laptop at the table, throwing comments in.
    5) Sorted out my living room drawers this weekend, so all my wrapping paper to reuse and evelopes etc are neatly put into bags. I have two huge envelopes full of Christmas scraps, so I will have to get organised and start looking out for cards and envelopes to make my own this year.

Apologies for not having posted for a few days. Like CCP I find it hard to think of positives sometimes when having a really bad patch, it can just add to the stress! However, the last couple of days have been altogether better so here goes:

    1. Enjoying DD's leavers picnic and performance. Can't believe she is off to secondary school though...

    2. Going into school (where I work) for the first time in weeks and being greeted so enthusiastically by loads of lovely children who said they had missed me. Some of the staff were also kind and suggested getting together in the holidays for a natter.

    3. I stood up to the head (who has messed me about and been very unsupportive). He turned his back on me at one point as he didn't like what I was saying, but I didn't let it put me off and held my own. OH said he was very proud of me.

    4. Have got through DD's 11th birthday party today, and actually quite enjoyed it! It was a very OS party, with home made pizzas and sundaes, pass the parcel (DD's request!) and traditional games followed by a pampering girly bit with nail polishes and face masks being applied while watching a movie and eating lots of nibbles. All the girls seemed to love it and the best bit was it didn't break the bank. :)

    5. OH had two electrician jobs this week and another to quote for which he will do on Monday morning. I am praying that this means things are finally looking up...

    6. OH spent the day in the garden scarifying and fertilizing the lawn, cutting edges and so on. I don't know what's come over him, but I'm not knocking it!! Its all looking very tidy out there. :)

I'm off to bed now, night night all.

Happy Birthday Sparrer. Hope you have a lovely day.
Ginger Snap - It sounds a great party for your DD's birthday and it also meant they had to interact with each other which always is a good thing.

My five for the last couple of days are
    1. A NSD always good.

    2. Having jacket potatoes with several fillings on offer from leftovers as I am still succeeding on not going to a supermarket between big shops and managing to delay these by a bit.

    3. Started to strip wallpaper in DS2 bedroom -he started about a year ago and it has looked a mess ever since.

    4. Cleaned the bathroom so it was lovely and clean.

    5. Managing to wash duvets and pillows and to get them dry in a day on Friday.

    6. Seeing green woodpeckers flying about when going for my walks.
