Evening!
I've had a lovely day today, spent with family, so filled with OS pleasures! My five of the day are:- Preparing picnic food this morning.
- Having cuddle with my friend's little cat
- Picnic in the park with my lovely nieces
- Boating on the lake
- Wallpapering our fridge with nieces' artwork
- Making chicken noodle soup
As I said, lovely day!
Hope everyone else has had a great weekend.

Thank you everybody for all your good wishes, and yummy cyber cakes
I've had to send for a new mains charger socket thingy so I'm using DGD2's very aged laptop which occasionally loses letters. However, will try to get this typed to make some sort of sense
1. Lazy day yesterday until 2 friends and I went out to dinner. It didn't cost anything as I had a voucher from the restaurant for a disappointment earlier in the year :j
2. This morning 4 lovely neighbours came with cards and choccies/flowers/a bottle of wine
3. Gave the bottle to my next door neighbour who was very grateful for it. She buys me some nice teas in exchange, which is our arrangement if I ever I'm given any wine
4. One young man who came to the door with his mum asked how old I was but of course I wasn't telling. Told him to guess and he hesitantly, as if it was too old, said 51. I love him
5. DM, DB and DSiL came for the day, bringing more flowers, a beautiful necklace and earrings for pierced ears - I think maybe I should get my ears pierced- and lots of produce from DB's garden
6. Lunch was a great success, even DM who has a tiny appetite managed a small second helping.
7. Two friends came after lunch bringing lots of goodies from their trip to Paris
8. Made alternative berry mess for tea - like Eton mess but I'm not keen on strawberries so made it with whoopsied raspberries and cream and put it in hm gingersnap cases, total cost £1.10 for 6 of us. There was none left
9 Made DB a half white/half brown loaf to take home, he loves baking but just can't seem to get bread right (or so he says) so he's always pleased when we meet up
10. Everybody had gone and all the clearing up done so by 6pm it was back to normal. DNeighbour invited me in for a cuppa, I took some cakes round for her and her DD and we have a lovely, quiet hour relaxing at the end of a busy day
(((Hugs))) to everyone feeling down thinking of you and hoping tomorrow will be better
Night night, Sweet dreams

Sparrer - Glad you have had such a nice day.
You don't have to answer this question if you don't want to, but I was just wondering if you still find it hard when people give you wine etc? I get annoyed when people give me chocolates (I have a slight intolerance so don't eat them, and actually don't really like it) or smellies (I have exceptionally sensitive skin so can't use anything remotely perfumed). As I said, don't answer if I am being too nosy...Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
A day of ups and downs! Had to spend half the day killing nits :-( Bigger son has a head of hair that would put Boris Johnson's to shame so I had to scythe a few inches off first (neatly!) in order to get the nit stuff through to his scalp. One of smaller son's autistic traits is he can hardly bear anyone to touch his head so I spent quite a long time chasing him about, wielding a comb...
And bigger son somersaulted off his scooter this morning onto his cheek so looks like he has been attacked :-(
Must think of 5 pleasures...
1) Got on top of the housework, eventually.
2) Went to Sainsburys, mainly for nit stuff, but did the shopping while I was there. Before we did the shopping, we sat by the canal to eat our sandwiches.
3) Sat in bed with the boys to watch Top Gear.
4) Am listening to Dr Who at the Proms on the iplayer.
5) Have also been planning a trip to London with the boys. Just trying to buy a Family and Friends Railcard but my online banking isn't working (usually so reliable). We are going to go to the Tower (free with their Blue Peter badges) and you can download vouchers for children's meals. The menu looks really nice. After that, I think we will go on a boat trip and after that, I don't yet know! Looking forward to it. :-)0 -
Morning
I have had such a lovely weekend away in the North East don't really know where to start with pleasures as there are so many so here are some of them
Thursday
1. Lovely fish and chips at the seaside with OH and DD.
2. Having races along the pier with OH and DD even if it was raining and windy we had a great time.
3. Getting to go in the victorian water lift up the cliff. Pleasure is I haven't been on it for 20 years plus didn't have to walk up the bank.
4. Lovely dinner in a little pub by the sea so we could watch all the mad surfers out in the sea
5. Having a quiet drink with OH in the hotel bar after DD had gone to bed
Friday
1. Sucessfully being able to suprise parents at their anniversary party they had no idea even after they walked into the room and all their family and friends were there. There was a few tears shed once they realised.
2. Being able to spend the day with lots of family and old friends. Parents didn't know where to look as kept seeing someone else they weren't expecting. The biggest suprises for them was that SIL was there with the kids (they live in folketsone and was difficult for her as first family gathering since we lost my brother). Also managed to get dad's oldest friend there a he's not local either. Pluse they were happy that he was going to be staying with them for a few days
3. I got to spend time with my best friend as well. When the party was over and back at parents with everyone sat around it was like being 11 again:rotfl:
4. Parents telling us ho much they had enjoyed their day and how perfect it had been
5. Seeing all the lovely cards and presents they received
Saturday / Sunday
1. Seeing dad and his friend pottering around in the garden together
2. Going for a quite drink with one of my brothers and SIL
3. Buying a lovely handbag at a bargain price
4. Knowing that we had the costs of the hotel and meals out covered by our family fund savings from when we emptied our change jar earlier in the year:money:
5. So many more but not going to bore you any more but I did have a lovely weekend
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Good morning all
First of all HAPPY (late) BIRTHDAY Sparrer, glad you had a good day!
Sorry that so many are having a difficult time (((((((COLLECTIVE HUG)))))))!!! Hope that you all get a better time soon.
Ladyhawk, your post about being a bad girl re. work from home made me smile, I was meant to have made up some 6 hours home-work this week (reading professional mags and surfing the net for specific articles), do you think I have done any of it? NAHHHH.... just cramming in a bit now before going back tomorrow (not sure whether I shall even give my resignation straight away or see if I can bear it a bit longer!).
Acey, I feel your pain re nits! My two kids brought every variety of the little blighters home when they were in school - in the end I just gave both a No. 4 hair cut and regularly washed their almost bald heads with tea-tree reinforced shampoo (meaing I tipped a lot of proper tea tree oil in a bottle of regular shampoo - the commercial ones are not strong enough) and eventually we got rid of them (the nits, not the kids!). But not before I got infested, at the time I had long wavy perm curls!!! Had to chop them all off too!
What a lovely weekend, here are some of the pleasures and blessings:
1 - One of DS's regular stayers (homeless friend) found a lovely wicker armchair in an alleyway, that was being thrown away, and brought it to us, just what we needed, lovely in the garden when it is sunny and lovely in the front room for the evening, with one of my homemade patchwork cushions!
2 - Good weather but not too hot so we spent a lot of time outdoors
3 - DD's BF drove me to Mr T for shopping, stocked up on pasta and espresso coffee - not my regular shopping haunt but I had a £20 card that DS had given me (won in a raffle), £1 points voucher and £5 voucher from the Sunday mail so for a big shopping worth £40 (minimum price to use the Mail voucher) I paid £14 - BARGAIN!
4 - On our way back we stopped at the Farmers Market and got some lovely veg to complement our garden produce
5 - At the bakery where DD's BF works he can buy bread at half price so we bought a fav huge loaf that will last us 4 days.
6 - DH, DD and her BF did an amazing amount of work on the allotment, cleared more ground and now there is more space to plant late seeds.
7 - I did a lot of work on our front (south-facing) garden. Planted 2 types of beetroot, 2 types of kale (old seeds, hope they work!), more lettuce, some radishes and some turnip tops (broccoletti - YUMMY with pasta!).
8 - This weekend I spent some precious lovely time with DH, who is going away for a week next Saturday and I shall miss him soooooo much!
9 - Yesterday DS got a sudden call from one of his mates, asking him if he wanted to do some promotion work so he went and did a full day and earned himself a good chunk of money.
10 - 4 large pots of raspberry, blackcurrant and blackberry jam made and stored away.
11 - I accompanied DH to the optician as he needed to get varifocal sunglasses and he got a really sexy pair of Ray-bans, make him look even cooler than he normally is, and because of the insurance we managed to buy them within budget YAY! I am so lucky to have such a cool dude for DH!!!
Love to all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Popping in briefly. Mine over the week-end:
1. A brief break away to the coast. Sunshine and enjoying the liberating feeling of wide expanses of open sea and cliffs.
2. Eating some freshly caught fish
3. Returning home to find yet more mini cucumbers & courgettes ready to pick. (They grow like Jack &the beanstalk the moment your back is turned.
4. Cooking supper on the patio on ourportable little gas hob.
5. And this morning, sitting under the gazebo in the rain, eating breakfast.0 -
Having a proper bad Monday morning so I thought I'd pop into this thread to cheer myself up and remind myself of the lovely OS weekend I had! So here are my 5 OS pleasures over the weekend:
1. Forraged wild raspberries on the way to the pub
2. Home grown vegetables - courgette for tea, wanted to make a bit of a show of it (we're a bit proud of everything we grow!) so roasted and stuffed it and it was delicious. Also planted a few too many lettuces so eating a lot of salad at the mo!
3. Amazing car boot sale bargains - including some vintage striped flannel sheets for £1...am actually looking forward to winter now!
4. Spent some time on the sewing machine last night adjusting a duvet cover which we never use cos it was a whopping 30 inches too big for the duvet. Fits perfectly now, and it was given to me by a friend a while back so it was completely free
5. Disasterous baking, tried a new banana bread recipe and the mixture looked too wet when I was putting it in the tin but I soldiered on...it took 45 mins longer to cook by which time it had completely sunk and was still quite soggy! Me and OH had a bit of a laugh and ate it anyway0 -

If you have too many lettuces you can use them for soup! Do you grow broad beans? If so you can cook young broad beans in the pod together with lettuce leaves (so they taste sweeter), sauteed in a bit of oil and chopped bacon (if you eat meat - we don't so we do without bacon).
Enjoy the courgettes, too - we also have quite a few now and love frying the flowers in batter! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
