Hello to everyone - I just have to start with more apologies for my ineptitude and bumbling around when wanting to bring good things to Tony and Julia.
The obvious thing, I realised suddenly, was to use Julia's own Thread, in which she gave us the news about Tony in April. I have pasted PattieMay's post there and will now do the same with Caterina's full-of-love-and-Italy recipes and her own special ingredient X, which is her warmth. Tony is a marvellous cook, so he will appreciate and know these recipes, perhaps from his own family.
This is where you can add things as the thought takes you:

I know I have not posted my own pleasures for some time. I have just felt somehow disqualified from doing so atm - a lot of changes. But there ARE moments in every day which at least stand, in even slight relief, against what may otherwise feel overwhelming.
1. I was in a favourite place of peace, with Tony thoughts, yesterday when a text came.
2. A no-car-day; thankyou Bus Pass.
3. The Heavens opened as I left the bus - guaranteed after yesterday's early watering.
4. In the lane walking back, shared a sheltered overhang of elderberry trees and tangled ivy with a young blackbird who came very close, chirping and looking up at me.
5. Spent some time looking on the YHA website for a few days' break[became Life Member years ago] - have Mr T vouchers redeemed and ready.
6.I must not let the gloomy day here enter me[there are many reasons why it could, particularly today], so reflect that yesterday's Gym session, done early, means I'm at the 6-week halfway mark. Government cuts mean Free swimming for Over 60's ends with July, next week thus.
7. Have had a couple of out-of-the-blue contacts from old New Zealand school photo peeps. See there's a Skype msg waiting from 1 and will nip to London next week to see another, who returns to Oz in September.

Hi all............
4 - Looking forward to plant some leek seeds in a pot after reading an email from fellow allotment-holders asking for leek seedlings. We need some, too (DS inadvertently killed our growing ones when he did some clearing work, bless him) so here I go planting some more for the community...........
Love to all xxx
Selective quote Caterina, because I was going to ask on Greenfingered about saving seed from my overwintered leeks, now in splendid bloom.
Will I be able to save seed from them? - when the bees have finished buzzing around them.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

I am not sure as I haven't done it before, but I know of people who do, the thing to do (I heard) is to wrap the flower head, before it goes completely to seed, with the foot of a woman's stocking, so the flower has air and light through the sheer stocking and when ready the seeds do not fall into the ground but can be collected.
I have re-used rocket leaves seeds very successfully that way but not leek ones, best of luck and let me know if it works! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

1) A late start. DH took the day off to give DD a lift to camp so we pootled around together for a while.
2) A lovely sunny day here and three loads of washing dry on the line. Makes a change after intermittent heavy rain.
3) Coffee in a friend's garden and a quick look around all her flowers.
4) DS safely back from Youth Hostelling and lots to talk about.
5) Dinner is some yellow sticker mince made into a pasta sauce with more beetroot leaves, a dollop of frozen red wine and a couple of onions. Home grown raspberries for afters.
Have a lovely and inexpensive weekend, everyone.0 -
Good evening all
Here are my pleasures and blessings for the day:
1 - I found that I have high blood pressure (again!) - the good news is that it is probably due to stress and that I have one more reason to give up the job and make myself live a healthy life.
2 - Found a discount code to buy olive oil and beetroot juice so I stocked up online.
3 - Lentil soup on the cooker nearly ready
4 - Raspberries cooked ready to turn into jam (tomorrow morning)
5 - DD back tomorrow from camping, she rang me and it was lovely talking to her

Hi all,
Been busy and tired, so not had much chance to keep up with the thread.
1. I got paid earlier than I thought
2. I paid less tax than I though so got more wages
3. I'll now be able to catch up with the rent.
4. I still had a tiny bit of money left even just before payday.
5. I treated myself to some stuff from Neal's Yard.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Had quite a relaxing day today...
1. A lovely bowl of porridge for breakfast in bed. I love my old man.:kisses3:
2. Got a skirt and top from Ebay for 99p, in the post this morning. What a bargain. Evans labels and like new.:D
3. Picked a variety of salad leaves for our lunch from the perpetual growing salad from the free seeds that I managed to get. They were delicious.:rotfl:
4. Buying half price Chipshop fish fillets and having that for supper with rustic oven chips and Sainsbugs Basics mushy peas.:T
5. Watching some telly with hubby and a glass of sauvignon blanc and now ready for bed.:kisses2:

Mine for today are:
1. Watching the Mentalist as I surf - now that's multitasking!
2. Made some lovely chocolate ice lollies today with mindee. So quick and easy and delicious hot or cold
3. Managed to order the oven element for my cooker so hopefully that can be repaired with little cost.
4. A lovely little wren came to visit the fence close to the dining room where I sat this morning. Haven't seen one for ages.
5. Managed to get my shopping today on budget which I wasn't expecting. Have probably missed something off knowing me!
6. Having read Ampersands posts about Julia and Tony I count my blessings that my loved ones are fit and healthy. My thoughts are with them both xxI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

3) Had lovely lunch with my friend
