Hi all, my five for yesterday are,
1. NSD
2. Seeing my tomatoes starting to turn red.
3.Washing and drying on the line my sofa covers.
4. Having home grown leaves with salad and using some beetroot leaves for the first time which were really tasty. I would never have thought of using them if it wasn't for this thread.
5. Watching the butterflies - masses of them while walking my dog.0 -
The best things in life are the things that money can't buy - love, family, health and friendship.
Times are tough and life is short and cruel...but almost every day. some small thing happens to make us smile - or laugh - or just lift our spirits for a while and make us appreciate how good life is,regardless how dire our finances are.
This thread is an invitation to tell everyone about something positive or uplifting that has happened to you today - it can be anything that has made you feel good and that life is worth living
For me - this morning I fed the scraggy little stray cat that comes morning and night to our back door - she is not at all friendly and impossible to get near ... after she had eaten, she meandered down the garden - half an hour later she was back with three kittens in tow. We watched them play in the garden for a while before disappearing again . It was a lovely moment - felt priviledged that although she is very wary of us, she trusts us enough to bring her kittens into our garden.

sparrer - The bread was quite nice. It had a very hard crust and the breads texture was similar to french bread. I would definitely make it again as it was so easy and handy to keep in the fridge until needed.
Here are a quick 5 for yesterday:
- Rain watering the garden and washing down the dusty patio and paths.
- Getting stuck into a new book that DH has just finished. It is a completely new genre for me (A true life story involving the m a f i a ) but I am enjoying reading something new.
- Cuddles with the dog in the evening.
- DH gaining a qualification that will be very important for his career.
- Being in a happy placeValue of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

For me today.
Putting my washing on the line to dry. And spending time around my two raised beds checking things.
As well as planting some more veggie seeds yum yum.

Mine was a cuddle from my 15 year old dd, very rare since she has 'grown up' and got all prickly!! Last night it was an 'I love you' from my 4 yr old dgs, closely followed by 'but I love Ben 10 best'!!Slightly bitter0

Here's a few pleasures I've had lately:
1. A couple of NSDs.
2. My cherry tomato plants are in flower.
3. My cross stitch.
4. Feeling pleasure from cleaning the house.
5. Making some cinnamon syrup for DH's latte.
6. Crossing items off my to-do list.
7. Getting both arms moisturised by a woman offering tests of a certain branded moisturiser, and also getting a free sample.
8. Going shopping for clothes and make up etc with my friend and not buying anything.
That's about it, lately. I wouldn't say there's been that much reason to be cheerful. I think it's just one of those weeks. Have a nice weekend everyone.

finding my 3 yo daughter tucked behind the old armchair in the bay window making her own OS entertainment cutting up the shiny empty yeast packet and sticking it to old quality street wrappers
unfortunately she was so absorbed in what she was doing she then wet her pants!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Good afternoon everyone.
villagelife - I'm impressed that your tomatoes are ripening already - mine have only started to appear in the last week or so. I hope you get a good crop.
Acey - well done to your smaller son on his school report - it sounds really good. :T
sparrer - lucky you, getting a trip to India. Send us a postcard, won't you?
apple_mint - that's cheerful thinking about the rain watering the garden. I've spent most of the past few days desperately hoping all my plants stay upright in the gale force winds.
Ladyhawk - that's not good about your oven, is it? I hoep you manage to find another one cheaply, or even free on Freecycle as sparrer suggests. I know what you mean about unreliable freecyclers, though - I haven't put anything up for ages as I got so fed up with people saying they wanted things and then not turning up to collect them.
wogglemaker - well done on your penny collection - it's well worth doing when you end up with that much money, isn't it?
My pleasures for today:
1) Nice lie-in this morning. I love weekends.
2) Got rid of the limescale on the bathroom sink by a very OS method - I scraped it off with the blunt edge of an old metal nail file. It looks much better now.
3) Took a load of books up to a local second-hand bookshop and got a £20 credit note in exchange. I could probably have got more if I e-bayed them, but I don't have an account so I took the easier (i.e. lazier) option.
4) The potatoes I planted a couple of weeks ago are coming through the top of the compost already. I wasn't at all sure they'd grow, so I'm really rather pleased. :j
5) The sun's come out now, after a grey sort of day, and it's meant to be pretty decent weather tomorrow - I think it might be a gardening day tomorrow.
6) Did a taste test on some pears today. It turned out to be a really odd test - it was basically 'do you prefer pears ripe or under-ripe' - a question I could have answered without them going to the expense of posting me a couple of pears to try. I got free fruit, though, so I'm not complaining.
Have a nice evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Mine happened last night, and was the OH coming home unexpectedly until Monday :j
Also, my friend has a relative with a huuuuggeee cherry tree which they never utilise. She knows I make my own preserves and cordials, and has offered that I can come and pick as many cherries as I can reach (carry - I'll come with a ladder) in the next few days.
