    Evening all.

wogglemaker - it's lovely to see you back and posting, and I'm glad you're recovering.

elizabunny - I love reading your plans for your rabbit's new home - what a lucky bunny he is. :)

    My pleasures for today:

    1) Scrounging a spare bulb for my desk lamp at work. My desk's quite dark and I get headaches without extra light, so it's quite a relief to have a working lamp again.

    2) Thinned out my HG spring onions, and had the 'thinned' ones for dinner.

    3) One of my winter pansies has got a flower on it. It's not the right season, of course, but it's making me smile.

    4) Arranging to meet my dad on his way back from visiting my grandmother in hospital tomorrow.

    5) It's a nasty sort of night in Portsmouth, so I've closed all the curtains and snuggled up. That's usually a winter pleasure, but it's quite nice even at this time of year.

    Have a nice night, everyone.
Back after a very long break!

That sounds scary, Wogglemaker. Glad you are back home now.

Here's my 5! Not a bad day here...

    1) Went to town for some new underwear. I have now lost 15 lbs and sadly it hasn't all gone off my fat bum so I booked a bra fitting at M and S! I have almost no interest in clothes (and even less interest in shoes) but I do like nice underwear.

    2) Met 2 of my college friends for a cup of tea.

    3) When in town, I went to get some money out and there was considerably more in my account than I thought. I went into the building society but all they could tell me is "its a payment from the DWP". Got home and phoned and it turns out my son's DLA claim was successful. I'm still quite shocked, I didn't think he would get anything. He is on the middle rate for care, according to the lady on the phone. I felt a bit funny about it because his behaviour has been better recently (in the last 6 months). Then I went to school to learn of another "incident" where they checked his desk today and he's been hoarding whiteboard markers! He's a devil for hoarding, especially food in his bed... Anyway, there were 30+ marker pens that have gone back in the right place now!

    4) Made a roast for tea which was nice and plenty of chicken left for a chicken and brocolli pie tomorrow.

    5) I'm surprised there isn't really a 5) because I've had a lovely day! I'll just include that downstairs is tidy and I've cleaned the kitchen, stairs and kitchen floor.

Off to see the paediatrician tomorrow for smaller son's diagnosis. Could be Aspergers...

Oh, I've got a 5!!!! My friend was trying for a baby for YEARS and had one last Christmas. (Was in labour from 24th - 27th December so we were all thinking about her on Christmas Day!) She is pregnant again, due mid January so there'll be less than 13 months between them! :-)

    3. Quick trip to Waitrose after work and a few YS bargains
    4. Decided to get the bus home tonight as had shopping, this wasn't a pleasure as got stuck next to someone who smelt soo bad:eek:The pleasure is I will be walking tomorrrow
    5. Cooked bolognaise with Gnocchi for dinner and DD ate two portions. One was supposed to be for her dinner tomorrow but she was so hungry she ate both. I think she is going through another growth spurt:eek:

    Evening all,

Glad you are a little better Woggle!

    An ok day today.

    1) Would have been a NSD like yesterday but popped into Wilkos and bought some wax circles for my jam and a chilli plant (named William) for a collegue who is trying to start growing her own... for a princely sum of 38p!! and William is not small!

    2) Leaving the office early to go to an awards event in London where I was picking up an award on behalf of my company.

    3) Got 3 strawberry plants from a lovely freecycler... though when I pulled up to their house the heavens opened in one of the heaviest downpours I have experienced for a long time! They also gave me some compost and plant pots.

    4) Sample of lemon tart from one of our suppliers... I love lemony stuff!

    5) the rain... my garden so desperately needed it so it was wonderful (despite my getting drenched!)

    Sleep tight

Kitchenbunny what a bargain, those smoothies are way out of my price range so you done good to get them at 30p :D
villagelife I love walking in rain too, makes me laugh seeing everyone rushing about with umbrellas...my late Nana said rain is good for the complexion. Well, a girl's got to try, hasn't she? ;)
Ginger Snap your poor hen :(, she must have been feeling terrible. It horrid when they can't tell you what's wrong but thank goodness you found out. Will keep everything x'd she makes a full recovery
Thanks re my DD CCP. Unfortunately it's affecting her feet & ankles more than anything, hard for her when she has 5 dogs to walk, bath, show etc. She has a brilliant familythough, all very helpful. Lol at your mishap with the raisins, it's amazing how far water can travel, isn't it?
Thank you elizabunny. Your grass seed sounds lovely, new bun is going to be very spoiled and have a brilliant start in life. Do you have a name for him yet?
Schools don't finish here til next week Kitchenbunny, then the children all play in the safe little square we live in. Have to admit I love it, it's awfully quiet during term times here. Well done on the tomato plants, I'll be able to join you all in posting my own next year :)
Rotten luck woggle, these things do creep up just when we don't expect them. Fortunately I'm just on anti-b's atm, I've mostly got to know the signs of a flare coming on now. Thank God for the NHS :T. Hope all is well now, and pleased you got good use of the dongle and netbook
I'm so envious of your allotment Patchwork, but next year I'll have my growing patio finished and hopefully lots of tubs, hanging basket etc of produce. Do you cook the beetroot leaves or use as a salad green  I've not heard of eating them before
CCP the pansy sounds lovely, they're such happy little faces, aren't they? There was definitely a nip in the air here in Beds tonight, and it's only July . Come back sunshine!
I know what you mean about undies ACEY, mine may only be from MatAlan but they have to match! Luckily they do some pretty pastels, even in the knicker size I wear :o. Congrats on the weight loss, and more congrats on DS getting the DLA, fantastic news!
It's nice to work with a team you get on with Tealady, so that's good news. Lol at DD's growth spurt, you'll be needing a few more Waitrose trips in the next weeks. Just watch who you sit next to on the bus on the way home _pale_
Welcome to the family, Ladyhawk's William :D. Aren't freecyclers the best people? They're always so ready to give more, help with advice etc. I did see a good 'un in my local last week though, someone wanted a Range Rover

    My 5
    1. nsd
    2. finished the chilli for dinner with some pilau rice I had in the freezer
    3. At long last the kitchen designers came back today, I'm really happy with the new layout I've chosen. Won't be fitted til Oct/Nov but at least I know it's on its way now.
    4. A good evening with people in my fellowship, it's such a supportive group, not just for the illness we have in common but whenever anyone has a concern about anything.
    5. My 1p phone call of course, which was only 6p today as my very special DF was very sleepy. Nurses said he'd had a good day though and only asked for minimum doses of analgaesics.

    Night night, sleepy tight

ACEY I hope the diagnosis goes ok for your DS today.

sparrer Although the vet is not positive he's a he at the moment because he's very young, we've called him 'Basil' because when he's running around in the garden he eats every herb he bumps into (apart from mint which he seems to hate)

Ginger Snap I hope things improve for you soon.

Not sure if I can find five today but we'll see how we go.

    1) Off to see my DM later, bless her, she's still really poorly but seems to have become more stable over the past couple of weeks.......I hardly dare say that.

    2) More new potatoes and beans from the garden today . I know we grew them, but I still can't help thinking how lucky we are to have them. Also, picked loads of English Mace and popped it into freezer bags for the winter. Managed to make a nice bunch of the flowers for drying too, so they're hanging in the kitchen now (FREE flowers:))

    3) Baked bread and cakes this morning and got everything ready for dinner tonight, so, well ahead now. Hoping for a lazy evening.

    4) DH joined a DVD rental club (first month free trial) as we don't go out so much and he likes films. The first 2 have come today, so something nice to watch tonight. We usually sit in the garden in the evenings but it's blowing a gale here and we keep getting heavy showers, so that's out for today.

    5) My lovely 'Basil' bunny is getting used to us all (dogs as well) and comes up to us when we go near his temporary house in the conservatory. When we first had him last week, he kept hiding. Looking forward to DH getting cracking on the new bunny home and run at the weekend and I've managed to order the special grass seed and some alpine hay for him at a reasonable price. I thought I would order some Dandelion seed because he likes Dandelion and we can use it for all sorts of things as well because it has lots of uses.

I really love growing herbs and am amazed at how much you can do with them (apart from feeding a bunny) I regularly drink herbal tea made from fresh leaves from the garden, much cheaper than the expensive packets.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

    Hi all

Ah, when I read your posts talking about domestic, home stuff, gardening, baking and generally living the OS life (which I feel I have abandoned while at work) I get all funny in the head and wonder why oh why I applied for a job. I am feeling the loss of my time very deeply and sit in the office, banging at the keyboard and wishing my life away, every day (well, 3 days per week) and wish I had never applied.

I am rushed off my feet, not eating well at all (always in a hurry and ending up eating rubbish shop bought sandwiches, chocolates, fudge that was sitting in the office since the dinosaurs walked the earth - out of boredom and sugar cravings...

I am exhausted and snappy when I get back home and tend to spend all my time off trying to catch up with the myriad things that I have neglected while at work, and also to have a good time and a rest...

Perhaps I shall adjust to the loss of freedom, but I am not sure about it, I am not sure that the money compensates for being at home and looking after my home and family myself.

Now I am earning a decent wage I am paying a cleaner, who one days does not hoover, the other day does not wash the floor, then it takes ages to clean so I am always having to leave her extra money... is it really worth the bl**dy aggro?

Plus I have already discovered that there are issues in the workplace, people are dissatisfied about a lot of things that were not apparent when I joined (of course) but the cracks are already appearing.

The upside is that the people themselves are pleasant and friendly, the conditions are great, lots of holidays and flexitime mean that I can possibly work extra hours on some days/weeks and take time off in lieu - but in practice I am not sure how practical this will be.

On top of the work thing, at the moment I am also having a big problem with the train tickets I bought online (to pick up in Paris) to travel to Italy - my credit card has been victim of a fraud and no longer valid so if the French do not allow me to pick up the tickets I stand to lose a lot of money...

Lots of headaches at the moment, but that's why, even so tired and disgruntled, I have dragged myself here to remind myself that there are great people and good friends here and that my life is blessed, regardless of all these niggles.

So here are a few of my pleasures for the last few day, in spite of the other issues going on in my life (which are really minor when compared with the real big stuff - some of which I read on this board):

1 - Well, it is a pleasure to be here and catch up with all your news, dear friends!

2 - The first tomato is red and ripe on our window-sill plantation!

3 - We ate the first courgette a couple of days ago and there are more popping up.

4 - DD, DS and their friends have got involved with the allotment and went to do some grass-chopping today.

5 - I got loads of gardening tools from two kind freecyclers

6 - I was told by someone that the bag I bought for very little money in a vintage shop is actually "equivalent to a Mulberry" to put it in her words and is worth a lot of money (in the USA where it is made)!

7 - I do not have to go back to work until the Tuesday after next, so I have 11 days all to myself and to my home, family and gardens!

8 - Today I used the "never knowingly undersold" John Lewis motto - I saw a pair of sandals which I really wanted, in a sale, but they did not have the size. I asked the shopkeeper for their phone number and then went to John Lewis where they had my size, told them about the sale price and after the sales assistant checked it, I got my sandals at an extremely good price (I had been after this particular pair for ages, waiting for the price to drop) - RESULT!

9 - All the problems I have are really minor when I think about how fortunate I am to have a loving, healthy family and how good is my personal life.

10 - If the job really goes on my nerves I can always leave it, after all I know how to live frugally and it would not be a terrible hardship.

Good night everybody, see you soon again now that I am free for a few days!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Oh Caterina I am so sorry to hear your news. I can imagine exactly how you feel. I think only you can make the right decision for you and I wouldn't even presume to advise.

However, I found when I worked, exactly the same thing, I had little time to myself, ate any old rubbish I could get quickly, negected the hobbies and things that I love doing, didn't have as much time for the family as I wanted etc etc. Now I am very content to be an'at home' wife, we live frugally but are rich in other things, I can supplement DHs income with my offerings from the garden, I have time for my family and can visit them whenever and I have so many hobbies, even I can't keep up with them. I don't need to pay for transport to and from work and I don't need special clothes because my dogs don't care what I look like when I'm working in the garden.

I am very lucky that my DH supports my decision to be at home and is always appeciative of the contribution I make to our lives even though it's not a monetary one. I will not say we do not have difficult times, but we work together to overcome these. I hope you can find a solution to your dilemma, but of course it has to be the right one for you. Good luck!

    2. Baskets and planters look really nice and veggies are growing nicely.
    3. took things gently today and started to get back in the swing of house jobs.
    4. A nap in the chair this afternoon
    5. Quick tea of lemon sole, chips, peas & broad beans from the freezer.
    6. Managed the big Tesco trip without a major mishap or coughing fit.
7 Forgot the aa batteries for mini fan & portable nebuliser, but got a spindle of 50 writable cd's for half price

    Evening all...

Woggle - hope it perks up a little in your neck of the woods as I am off to a wedding on Saturday in the Forest of Dean... It is blowing an absolute gale here in Beds.

Caterina - sorry that you are not enjoying work. Maybe you will get used to it?

    1) Reboiled my strawberry jam this evening so it will actually set this time

    2) Made some summer berry jam as well from a frozen berry sample from work

    3) Picked up some more strawberries from my local tame freecycler! They are about to move to Pakistan (brave people!) so are trying to get rid of loads of things before they go. These strawbs aren't for me though, they are for a colleague who is a single mum and her daughter is intregued by being able to go into the garden and being able to pick things to eat. The nice freecyclers also said that they will email me firstif they have anything else to give away. They have already offered me their TV! I am just such a sucker... I can't say no!

    4) Emptied out Eamon the mortgage pig this morning as I had to pay my share dividends and my refund from the water company into the bank and their was £36 in him which I was rather pleased with.

    5) Yummy yoghurt, muesli and compote pot sample at work.

Tomorrow could be interesting... I left my laptop at my normal office and have to go into our London office for a 9am meeting... might end up twiddling my thumbs for the rest of the day!

    nighty night night.
