Evening all from a very damp Bedfordshire!!

It's chucking it down here again. I am so relieved I didn't get my car washed this evening like I planned. I'm going to have to get up early to do that in the morning before I collect my friend to go down to Gloucestershire tomorrow... and since I'll be up early I may as well pop into the Next sale...

    1) IT'S FRIDAY!!! It's been a loooong week.

    2) Added to my preserve collection by making lemon curd this evening... it's lovely though I am not sure how set it is going to be. The down side is that I think that I have killed my oven as it didn't get more than vaguely warm when I sterilised my jars :( that's going to be expensive :(

    3) Made merginues with the left over egg whites... at least my oven is fit to cook meringues in!

    4) Went out to lunch with my colleague for Thai. He is more of a friend than a colleague so it was nice to catch up with him.

    5) Got feedback from the big boss on a presentation I did last month. Overall positive and she wants me to take more of a leadership role which was nice. One or two thiings were not easy to hear but overall it was good. I don't take critisism very well and tend to take it to heart so I am trying very hard not to.

    6) Got rid of an old pine computer table on freecycle this evening. Am hoping to also get rid of an old lamp. The lady didn't pitch up yesterday and then emailed me this morning to appologise and arrange to come again tonight... I'm not holding my breath. Unfortunately she was the only one that replied. Why are people so unreliable?

    7) There's a rainbow outside my bedroom window as I look over the Chilterns... very pretty.

Did I mention it was Friday!!!

Night all - have an awesome weekend.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening

Jexy - good to see you posting and loved the picture of the dog on the lake.

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Had a really good nights sleep. Haven't been sleeping too well and DD has been sleep walking twice this week:eek:. She hasn't done this for a while and there doesn't appear to be a trigger so hopefully we won't have any more.
    2. Pub at lunch time with a couple of the girls. Wedges with chilli and lager shandy:) just what was needed on a Friday
    3. Easy dinner at home for OH and DD of meatballs and pasta. Every thing was pre prepared so just had to throw it together. I just had some HM ratatouille
    4. Chatting to friend on the phone and knowing they were all fine as when passed her house last night there was an ambulance outside but it was for a neighbour (who was also OK in the end)
    5. Agreeing with Ladyhawk on this one - It's Friday:j:j:j

Hugs to all who need them.

    Evening all

Apologies for my absence again !! Here's a few pleasures from my week.

    1. DS sharing achievement evening at school, we looked through his reception portfolio and it was so sweet :)
2.Went out with friends to a soft play area tonight - hate these places - but it was DS treat for a good report so the kids had good fun, despite the little horror that was going round pushing other kids around while his parents turned a blind eye - grr!!!
    3. Lovely raspberries picked from the allotment.
    4. Bargainous red currant and white currant bushes for our allotment.
    5. My lovely Mum is getting better and stayed overnight with us this week - yay !!
    6. Found out that my job selling houses will soon end :( financially it's a nightmare but it will be nice to reclaim my weekends and spend it with my family.

    Happy Friday everyone! :)

Mine for last couple of days:

    1. Our poorly chicken is still looking and acting okay after the vet removed her egg blockage. The vet said the difficult time will come when she tries to pass the next egg (her last 2 got stuck inside as they were formed without shells by mistake!) so fingers crossed. But its been lovely watching her enjoy scratching about today with the others. She even had enough strength to give our friend's hens we are looking after a good peck through the fence!!

    2. Went to the gym and did a fitball class followed by an aqua aerobics class. I am making use of the classes while I am off work and it was good to know I could get through them without totally embarrassing myself!

    3. Returning home to a lunch of whoopsied lentil soup and garlic flat bread, prepared by kind OH.

    4. The bathroom shower is finally fitted and OH has sealed the bath. Just need to connect the radiator now and put some flooring down. After 3 years of being an unusable room it may be about to be finished!!! :)

    5. OH went out to the pub tonight so I did some ironing while watching a couple of fascinating programmes. One about a village vicar who gave up using money for a few months and tried to exist by bartering, growing his own veg and so on. The other one was the second in the new series by Jimmy (of Jimmy's farm) about the private life of chickens. Makes me want to rescue some battery hens though.....

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    My pleasures today:

    1. Popping into the garden (in the rain) to pick some perpetual spinach to slip into my lunchbox salad
    2. Finding the last lot of home made bolognese in the freezer for tonight's meal
    3. Having the time to sit and talk to the OH because the evening meal had been taken care of through batch cooking
    4. Being able to appreciate the view out of the window (mist, rain, wind) and thinking 'at least the garden is being watered'
    5. Knowing that I can always pop onto this forum for ideas :-)
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

How did the artisan bread turn out Mollie? I've been reading about in but not sure about making it til I saw some feedback. It does sound yummy, hope it was as good as the pictures made it look
Good to have you back Caterina! Your 5/10 sounds as though it might work out, you can only try. Brilliant luck on the veg box, perfect timing :D
My DD laughs at me for the eggshells CCP, but I think they look quite pretty! I crush them quite finely and just scatter round the plants and tubs. Good for you putting back the grated mozarella. when I see people buy bubble and squeak (left overs ), precooked rice and so on, it makes me cringe to think how much those things cost. Pleased you got the door fixed, even if it did stop your air conditioning ;)
I'm really good at giving advice woggle, just not too good at taking it :o. Congrats on the 'penny' skirt from Cotton Traders and the HM chilli, a great favourite in my family
It's pretty wet in my part of Beds too Ladyhawk, with the advantage that I didn't have to water the plants this evening. Sorry to hear about the oven, might it be worth looking in freecycle or gumtree for something even if just as a stand-in? Enjoy your weekend in Gloucs, and the Next detour if you make it :D
Another chilli meal Tealady, now I'll def be making some tomorrow..had it this week already but it's just so morish :). My DD used to sleep walk when she was 5/6 years old for no apparent reason but she would come downstairs, look to see we were there and go back to bed. Perhaps she'd been having bad dreams but she never woke up or seemed distressed.
Jollymummy white currant jelly is delish. A freecycler gave me some recently and I had it with lamb (not a mint sauce fan) and it was just right. What do you do with yours?
I saw the vicar programme not so long ago Ginger Snap, oh to be able to live so frugally! He did run a car but that was prob just for the programme ;). The chickens were fascinating, if really quite sad, weren't they? Now I know where the expression pecking order comes from :D
I love your name apple_mint, it reminds me of when my elderly, somewhat eccentric aunt climbed over her rockery in a very steep garden to pick some for me to take home. I was afraid she'd slip , it looked like she needed climbing gear! But she was used to it and went along like a mountain goat :D

    My 5

    1. I've been given the opportunity to go to India :j in Feb with some friends in my fellowship. I've already arranged to go to Scotland for a week in May so for the next few months I'm going to have to be more OS than all ther OSers on the OS boards put together!
    2. NSD - that's a start :rotfl:
    3. Took the mince out of the freezer for tomorrows chilli and remembered to put the porridge oats out as well, to eke it out
    4. I've just watched Jackie Chan on Fwiday Night with Jonathan Woss...he's such fun. I confess to having most of his films...never too old to enjoy a bit of silly adventure :D
    5. A good phone call today, sweet DF was tired but quite chirpy. I love it when we sing silly songs to/with each other

    Night night, sweet dreams

  • 1) Finishing not one but two dresses! Now the downside - I can still make a decent quality dress from a pattern but of course the patterns don't fit me! I am short from shoulder to waist and haven't got the skill to alter everything. Anyway, I am still proud of my achievement and might wear the dresses anyway or if not, send them to the charity shop so that someone gets the use of them. The upshot is that I might start making separates.
    2) Saw my heart-to-heart friend again at her house today so that we could pray through some of the issues. Half of the pleasure was wandering through her extremely tidy house.
    3) Most of what we wanted from the supermarket was yellow-stickered or on offer.
    4) Tea was composed of the things we should have eaten yesterday for DH's birthday - before he decided we were all going out - so it was a case of fetching them out of the fridge and heating them up.
    5) One or two chocolates from DH's birthday collection as I've been reading through MSE.

    5 for today (well, Friday).

    1) Took my brother's dog for a massive walk. Bumped into one of dad's friends whilst walking - a fairly monosyllabic old farmer. I didn't even know if he'd recognise me but you'd have thought I was his long lost friend! So we had quite a chat.

    2) Helped my brother move some floor tiles he has got from a house that is subsiding and needs to be demolished. Brother is converting a barn. Then had some lettuce from dad's garden.

    3) Kept letting next door's dogs out.

    4) Had smaller son's school report which was really quite good. He's just about average now academically, apart from in speaking but he was hardly going to shine in that part of literacy after having selective mutism for years!

    5) Made a few enquiries and have booked smaller son in for cranial osteopathy. I have been pondering over why his head is so very sensitive (can't touch it and he won't wear a hat) and remembered how awful he was at feeding for MONTHS, very colicky and very over sensitive to everything. Then I remembered he was breech until a couple of weeks before he was born before being born at top speed. Well, I don't know if it will help him but I'm really excited about it!

    6) Took smaller son to Beavers and bigger son and I went for a walk through the Forest.

Acey- fingers crossed for the cranial osteopathy. My DD had terrible problems with sleep and being colicky, etc after a difficult birth. She had the best night's sleep after her first CO session, it was nothing short of a miracle! Let's hope it works for your DS.

Hugs to everyone who needs them. I'm catching up with everyone's posts, just made a longish post and lost it :(

My five for the past few days:
    1) breakfast in bed
    2) cuddles from dd
    3) after spending a little time every day on the Wii Fit, my Wii piggy turned gold! I wasn't expecting that!
    4) Mock the Week
    5) waking up to bright sunshine
