Mothers Day, a day of celebration, sorrow, guilt, maybe even anger. I hope for all it was peaceful
1) walked to church (was going to get 73 but it didn't turn up so saved my bus fare). called in at certain emporia to buy small gifts for mum for a hygge mothers day. had made her a card
2) lovely service. i was 'in charge' of sunday school who were in as children doing readings, intercessions and giving out posies to all (though some of the men refused)
3) then lunch with mum and dd1. some friends from cathedral crashed the lunch and it was good fun. dd1 gave me a lovely hygge box from her and dd2 - liquorice, pontefract cakes, walnut whips, colouring book and coloured pencils, teabags, pom-pom making kit and of course candles
4) then 90 minutes playing my accordion for a group of syrian refugees (please no jokes about haven't they suffered enough lol). dd1 came with her fiddle and friend whose church hosted the event was on guitar. fun seeing some of them dancing syrian style to gay gordons
5) bus home (accordion weighs a ton! mr guitar had kindly taken it down t to the church for me) then gbf came round and we took the dogs for a long walk. gbf has had a tough week - was good to catch up.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

6) Played football with smaller son.

Evening from the land of delicous fresh air....from 33o - 13o in the blink of a thunder storm! Front door open and patio doors open to let fresh air in!
Slept until 4am...was 23o then...hoping I may sleep better tonight.
Got up and did wii fit...had to scrabble around for batteries it's been so long since I've used it!
Phoned friend from home.
Smoke alarms changed over. It started beeping loudly and continuously on Friday...landlords expense. Chap was in and out.
Picked up my winning hamper ...not quite the big one but $15 cafe voucher and a $50 RSL ( maybe a bit like British Legion?) Returned & Services League ...they have a bar and restaurant. Have never been as its somewhere you would need signed in ...I think....anyway won a voucher so must be able to go in! ...and a random tin of hairspray from one of the hairdressers!
Very blowy walk with Haggis this morning.
OH death certificate came in post today. This has kind of thrown me as I wasn't expecting it for another couple of weeks, it's just such a different system here. It had a warning notice on the envelope...advising you what was inside and that you may want to wait until you had a friend , family member or doctor with you. I managed all by myself.
My friend had also sent me a copy of our local paper where I'd placed his obituary and that came in the post ( after I shook the cockroach off it!) and even though I'd written it and had seen the proof and okayed it it was still hard to see .
A few cards came and OHs aunt had included photos from when he was a wee boy that I've never seen before ...1970's poor quality pics!
So all in all just a bit overwhelmed this afternoon. This is my new buzz word. It just explains how I feel . I've gone from being so confronted by stuff the last 5 years to now just being overwhelmed.
Had a lovely email from our oncologist, we are donating $3800 to his research and then had a call from Cancer Hospitals fundraising team , shall get an email tomorrow with bank details so can transfer money. I am very specific in where I want money to go and I'm glad they can arrange this.
Prior to all this I had made ( the most delicious ) cottage pie that we had for tea ,a lasagne for tomorrow and macaroni for Wednesay...was a woman on a mission!
I got my washing in before the torrential rain but not before the bizarreness of being out when lots of huge pieces of eucalyptus bark was falling out the sky like weird snow. Just the wild wind whipping it off the trees I supose but very odd.
Chat with my sister.

Mhags
Overwhelmed is perfectly ok and totally understandable. You are amazing
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Caravan was dispatched safely - it looked pretty good. We possibly could have got a few more hundred pounds, but we would have had to do some repairs and buy new tyres to get it and it wasn't guaranteed so worth it for the lack of hassle.
2. we went to 'spoons for breakfast to celebrate. Splashed out £9 on two breakfasts and two coffees (with free refill). Last of the big spenders, us. :rotfl:
3. Mother's day pressies great - OH got me some perfume (though i did point out that i wasn't his mother); a cd from DS and four second hand paperbacks from DD (she knows i prefer second hand)
4. DId the garden in the afternoon - it's looking good.
5. We'd bought a new firebasket barbecue on saturday, so we had our first BBQ of the year - though we ate it inside....
Have a great day all - I really must crack on now, procrastinated enoughI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Late, but then two on the trot. Going to have to squeeze these inn as BoP computer has been blocked by the softies. Peoples of the algorithm and not the understanding!
5 Was inn town on Fryday night. Had a mixed grill and lots of wobbleades. Went to catch the big Warster train, and yous guessed it. It was running late. So BoPsie heard the faint echo of another train chuffing along. Yes, the nine o’clock one was twenty minutes late! So we caught that one instead and got home ten minutes early. Other transport systems are available!
4 No frets, had the usual fest of snorkers, best back, mushrooms, grilled toms etc with poached egg on hot buttered toast of Saturday. Prepped the chicken tikka bits, real foods, recipe available on request. Also end of week salsa. Onions and fridge remnants in toms! Washed away with wobbleade. Nerw is end of week salsa. It is the dynamite mushrooms, with left over peppers, onions, toms and anything else. Goes very well with wobbleade. Proper food.
3 Booked Don Quixote at the Met for the big apple. 400 smackers it cost. BoPsie’s legs have gone giddy! Just waiting on Donald to send the lunch invitation.
2 Yesterday did fried haddock. As you are aware, if BoP cannot fry fish, he will need … On the stove BoP fried the fish on an open flame pan, with oil. So you can do it! Served with minted new tates and garden peas. Be careful with these pans as they are considered …
Only glimpsing at the moment! BoP’s home pc has been invalidated so the administrator’s says. Seems that the MSE softies algorithm in detecting decent posts has gone awry! Don’t gets me started about … Thinks again of darked rooms, mushrooms and …
And with that it is over!0 -
1) The first spires of white dead nettle, known here as Arkangel, are flowering in the verges.
2) The scent of newly mown grass as someone cut their lawn.
3) The colour combination of celandines and grape hyacinth in many of the gardens, such vivid and beautiful colours.
4) Birdsong, today they were giving it their all!
5) Flower buds in tight green clusters on the front hawthorn hedge, something to look forward to in a few weeks time.0 -
Staggers in, really over a week? Hurrah for weekend, sunshine (not too hot, yet!) & back to the fray tomorrow. Meantime, I pointedly leave sandy socks on the laundry heap & refill the teapot. If I knew how you took it Mhags, there's a pint mug set aside for you. All courage, love & support flying Great Circles your way.
Exchange of texts with sis whose birthdate I got wrong - bless her, she was inclined to find it funny.
Now-turned-18 son getting post & muttering "I'll deal with it later" - a month ago I'd have it sorted within the hour but now? Have to remember to defer to young adult male ego! Hoping he'll remember my offer of assistance "later"... [Not yet. Ah well.]
The amaryllises are still blooming! Of the five trumpets, one has withered down but the second stem's still bright & the other bulb has two fattening buds just on the point of exploding into flower. [Exploded! Three bright scarlet trumpets.] These rtc bargains are bringing so much pleasure!
Found my favourite mint tea on promotion! Some days, travel is worth it. Also new designs of bags for life spotted! (Temptation will get me shortly.) [Got.]
Porridge with Greek yoghurt - startlingly pleasant. The spelt bread crust was just delicious, though.
Been coaxed through going through kit bags, my canny husband has sorted me an entire replacement wardrobe of clothes that fit that I don't have to shop for! Trousers, shirts, fleeces even a Goretex that I'd plumped out for but he'd hung onto in faith. Rousing cheers that man!
For some reason it is my job "to set up" the new microwave. Yes, we now have Chaos Defrost! A concept I had to read up on, having seen it on my parents' device, but remain charmed by.
My latest vegetable soup (sundry veg sweated &/or boiled) has been named "Zuppa Verdi" (green soup, aka gloup) & thanks to the bulky healthy virtues of spinach, kale etc, works out at under a hundred calories a mugfull! This diet is making me explore cooking - probably a Good Thing. Not triggered the smoke detector, yet.
"considerate constructions" signs up alongside another building site - how do building sites avoid being noisy messy neighbours?!
Waved hullo to the tailor! Really my everyday schedule has slid out of whack - he was a daily fixture & is now a treat!
You cannot win with this weather - mild, bright & just-in-case raincoats at home, torrential rains in town, warm & sunny in the hospital grounds & now thunder & lightning over the house. The TV has been unplugged & the lads are all curled up reading.
It takes a special kind of stubborn to try on trousers for an hour, but I was sustained by the "immoral support" of Himself and by the certainty that a substantial cup of tea awaited me. No clothes shopping needed For Ages!
Sons writing thank you letters with only minimal prompting (although in one case a month late, ahem). Just having to sort stamps is such a treat - this used to be a bentwood chair, whip & pistol job. (Mind, I've not checked their spelling yet.) [Granny has, & is charmed! Phew!]
Grim satisfaction in eating an entire healthy breakfast despite the Nutella jar unsubtly dumped on the table.
Son "I'm going to get dressed" - from a chap already clad in the majority of his school uniform I was a little bemused as to what else was required - "sash & orders?" "Sheriff's badge"... Did we let them watch too many Westerns in their infancy?!
Son pensively trying a cheap cigar - part of us parents' attempt to wean the children *off* the whole idea, young. Sadly, he looks reasonably laid back & tranquil - husband opines should have bought a stronger cigar... [The plan was to get him to throw up.]
"Who'd do their hair on the Internet?!" - aw, innocent Scout! [They're reassuringly savvy - no broadcasting from bedrooms etc "as mine's a tip, anyway!", delightfully shrewd on privacy settings & helped set up Grandpa's laptop with all sorts of Useful software (I added MSE, and another leader quietly palmed POF before we had to explain that... Some days, I lack courage!)
Husband sourced a big bag of assorted fishhooks - son & I have snaffled according to our abilities! Now to sort line & how best to carry it.
"You're going against the whole morals of parcels mum!" - curiosity *definitely* runs in the family.
"We should get a dog"
"We haven't time or space"
"We could get rid of [brother]?"
Boychicks.... Still, I could *insure* a dog. (I did *try* for sons! Lots of life insurance, no accidental damage cover.)
"Where's the barf-bowl?" - in a sentence, child describes the bowl, function & that his brother is having another seizure - and they're just getting on with the day, helping & waiting. Definitely beach & a fish & chip dinner indicated.
Playing with flight radar on the beach - we're not the only folk to seize a glorious sunny day by the scruff!
Just watching the lads devouring the chip dinner. There's something very satisfying about watching them eat! Even better when I've no washing up awaiting.
Setting up to load the propagators led to a seed audit (ahem!) & the discovery that I've misplaced all my dyers herb seeds. Dash. Still *loads* of herbs to try!
A good class - although another time 'phone rules' will be included - we organised breaks, but failed to keep a reliable grip on their attention. Another time we'll require them to do the work on their machines 'live' alongside us!
Youngest was awarded a (small, not Sheriff) silver star in school assembly - and has no idea why [or where it is to be worn]. The Head Boy (who was also not listening too hard, ahem) says it is 'for Respect' but of what or whom, is as uniformed as the recipient.
I have bought the "We'll Miss You" cards for the departing Geog teacher who is setting off to become a stay-at-home-Dad as his wife is to have the baby then return to her cancer researches. He will be much missed (having taught all my three with admirable courage & patience) but goes with our warmest regards & best wishes!
Right, I love you all dearly (sons startled at the number of internet names I recalled, sharing sand between the toes) & shall stagger off to blear at an application for for a job I probably could do but must apply for. Parasols, sunscreen, thriving propagators, the emergence of cherry blossom & of course reliable waterproofs all round as needed!0
