It's Sunday and it's raining . Hurrah for rain and coolness of air. The birds are singing extra loudly this morning.
The kindess of our speech pathologist ...who happened to pass me in tears in a hospital corridor...he stood and listened even though he was trying to go home a few hours earlier...he said I remind him of how his mum would be ! ( I do not think I am old enough to be his mother but I know he meant well!)
The kindness of another nurse...we'd been forgotten about but had sat there blethering for ages and hadn't noticed just how long we had waited. When I asked at reception I was rather abruptly asked why I'd waited so long ...I didn't deign to reply! Anyway, nice nurse came round and he was just lovely.
The pleasure of phoning for takeway from the train exactly about 20 minutes from our station ( knowing this is how long the food usually takes!) picking up on way home. Delicious.
Went out for an hour with my girls yesterday. Left son on dad duty. We had some lunch but we all just shared the one thing and only DD1 had a drink so we were cheap dates! I'm currently just drinking water. Back off the diet cola again...the struggle is real
Gardener came on Friday , think even he had underestimated the front garden and what he could get done in 2 hours. But if he chips away every couple of weeks and just keeps it tidy for me I will be happy.
We've taken another downwards turn in OH condition which is hard to deal with. ( it was never going to get better) I feel like we are on a set of stairs and each dip in health is a step downwards, occasionally there have been big dips and I have that feeling when you are actually walking down stairs and you miss your footing and miss a step and your heart lurches as you think you're going to fall but you catch the next step. But you are a step nearer to the bottom. Cancer is just horrid.
Anyway, on a lighter note, there's to be no heat today. There may be cakes to make and some beef to go in slow cooker and make into a steak pie and that also means roast potatoes. There's Casualty to watch. Scotland may still win at rugby. There's a dog to be hugged and walked .
Have a good weekend.0 -
Hope you are OK, Lainey. A tough day but I'm glad the WI did a good job.
McCulloch - new football trousers on again today!
Pleasures for today (Saturday, hoorah!)
1) A proper lie in.
2) Woke to snow (couple of cm)
3) Went to feed the hens, who were very jolly. 3 eggs today.
4) Took some eggs for the lady who rents us the allotment.
5) Smaller son went to watch the rugby with my brother. Warriors won. :-)
6) Bigger son and I went to town to pick up his school trousers (ordered from M and S) and he decided he wanted some football type trousers too. Popped to Sainsburys for hot chocolate then shopping.
7) Cleared rubbish from car.
8) Bigger son feeling better today and we looked at the new college course he has decided upon. Not academic at all (which secretly did not impress me at first) but leads on to several more courses and finally, an HND.
9) Broccoli and pasta cheese for tea.
10) Watched Casualty.
11) In bed now (1 hwb) and will find something to watch on iplayer.0 -
Lainey - hugs and love to you and your family. Look after yourself.
McHags- hugs to you all.
1. Seeing a vase of daffodils on someone's windowsill. Very cheerful.
2. Dinner with friends. A very enjoyable evening which flew by.
3. Watching the rugby. Also saw the woman's convincing win.
4. A lie in yesterday morning for me after a good night's sleep.
5. Saw MIL briefly as we took some towels and tea towels (her previous ones have gone missing- not sure how). She seems ok but still immobile.0 -
1) The weather forecast this morning saying that by Wednesday we'd be 12 degrees and the sunshine will be back!!! HOORAH!
2) DD1 is home for the weekend and we had such a lovely day in the city yesterday then came home and walked Cookie together, I love it when either of then visit, the house feels 'whole' again.
3) Bought new pyjamas yesterday size 14/16.....and they fit!!!
4) He Who Knows seems to be getting the better of his virus (known in our family as a 'walrus') and is coughing less and is less sore because of that. Still poorly BUT not as poorly as he has been for the last few weeks.
5) Rugby yesterday.....AND rugby TODAY!!! Woo hoo!!!0 -
Today has been a productive day ( today has been a much cooler day)
I have in no particular order: cleaned bathrooms, laundry , made a very delicious steak pie, cut the back garden grass, weeded at the fernery at back porch, went to aldi, made some fabulous meringues and some are heart shaped for Tuesday, written a long email to a friend, cuddled my dog, looked after my poorly husband, walked the dog.
It's been nice not to feel too hot.
Have a nice day.
Lainey your mums funeral service sounded lovely and very special. Take care x0 -
I see the piano man is playing cricket, and is not out!
Dog Walker says the Yellow thing is back this week!
5 Just bin and dones the weekly shop. Had to get new pie dish as others had been well used during the last few years. BoPsie was very assertive about her Sunday lunch and insisted in the aisle of w8rs that it was to be a pie. So I have had my claws trimmed and been rubbed off with the real butter pastry. Deep pan chickens and mushroom, with cut onions, dash of spinach. Will be served with eddies tatties, roasted with a hint of rosemary. Pan gravy will also be served up. Crumble is going strong, served with lumpy custard.
4 Watched 'We Dive at dawn yesterday. Wobbleades were consumed, as well as the all new tikka chickens. Lovely. Recipe available above.
3 Was at the pink tutu centre this morning getting my shape for my trip over pond. Groomed the fur in the chin and had a wet one as well!
2 Day I paid my tax. Hopefully they will sort out the DD. It has been set up, but hey, yet another disconnected service!
And about this time, you will be able to glimpse out and see ...0 -
Quick collection:
1. Hair in decent condition following washing and conditioning with freebie products - one a shampoo I had thought wouldn't suit me.
2. A lovely night out at a first performance of a new show by local performers. One main performer in his early 70s, the other in his mid 80s and both brilliant.
3. An indulgent for me meal - I almost never fry food that can be cooked by other methods. Well, having got the frying pan out for pancakes yesterday I used it to fry my belly pork slices. Oh yum.
4. A lengthy chat and catch up with a friend on the phone, hope to see her later this week.
5. Your pleasures, thank you.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Lainey, you wrote so beautifully about your mom's funeral day. Losing one's mother is one of life's most heart rending events. Even when you have grieved along the away leading up to that day. After I read your words recording the day and after 28 years and I'm sitting here crying for my mother. You just miss them so much. That doesn't stop.
The Liberty Bell is so much smaller than I thought it would be. Originally caste in England. Cracked first time it was rung. Two more castings from melted down bell's metal. Two more cracks. They gave up. The city of Brotherly Love is the home of the famous Rocky Balboa steps. Bring pink tutu attire for assention run. Then go eat a Philly cheese steak for some seriously epic gastronomic delight. (Well epic for a sandwich)
Darling mhagster, we are all here with sincere concern for you and your beloved.
* Grateful for a mother who taught me so much by her example and fierce love.
* Quoye telling about her imaginary friends, mouse and crab. The joy of watching a two year old develope!!
* DD3 has found a church that she likes. I'm so grateful... she is far away in the cracked bell state.
* I have maintained my temper. Proud of myself! Kitchen guy left town and says he will be back when the cabinets come in. There is still floors to seal and painting to be completed. My miff-o-meter was on red for a few hours when I first got his answering text after repeatedly texting him "where are you". Calmer now.
* OH planning a surprise present for Valentines Day. He's very smug and smiles a lot. I sent Sequoia a kitty cat purse...fuzzy and pink, her favorite color.*
* All but one bill paid for kitchen so far. It feels good to pay as we go and not run up the credit cards.
* Trump may be -well whatever- but our financial councilor is very positive about the business/banking aspect of what has been done so far. This is hopeful news for our retirement acct.Overprepare, then go with the flow.
