Evening all:)
Five pleasures for today:
1. Unintended lie-in this morning.
2. Massive clearing out of more 'stuff' that needed to be recycled or dumped. DS1 did that trip saving me the bother. He's definitely on board for getting the house decluttered and sorted and it's great to have the support. I got a bag of out of date meds to a chemist for disposal as well.
3. Trip to another village to pay an overdue garage bill and discovered that there is a little bike repairers and parts shop there. I ended up having a very long natter with the guy running the business. Lovely to have the time to stand and talk.
4. Beautiful mist blankets sitting thick on the fields but the roads between them were clear - best of all worlds.
5. Fish cakes and salad for my supper.
Sweet dreams

Good morning , it's Friday already! Managed a bit more sleep last night than I have all week. Air is a bit cooler and clearer ( to heat up again though! )
So we had a whopper of a storm yesterday afternoon....all day I was moaning and groaning and asking when the rain was coming ...and then by golly! It came! We had a months rain in half an hour. We had a flooded street, a flooded garage and OHs workshop, the skylight in the kitchen had a waterfall pouring through onto the kitchen floor. The bit in family room ceiling that had leaked a few months ago was leaking again and luckily still had a bowl underneath it for such occasions!
I was mid putting away Christmas when it all happened so that's still to be done this morning but just need to play christmas cupboard Tetris to fit it all away. I found it all incredibly sad and spent a lot of time sobbing . We most likely won't be in this house next Christmas I most likely won't have an OH and it was all too much at times. Anyway....onwards! Today is another day!
In amongst all the panic of water everywhere my kids were stars! The girls checked our next door neighbours were okay and moved wheelie bins that had been put out on street back into gardens and then moved them back out onto street later in evening once water went down. Son valiantly tried to sweep out water as quickly as it was coming out. OH was moving what he could off floor in garage but water was pouring in through ceiling as well as on floor. Then kids and dog all had a splash around in the puddles in back garden...realising that as they were wet they may as well stay wet! I provided dry towels and food! Our suburb got a mention on the ABC news as one of the worst affected.
Have just had a nice chat with my sister.
DD1 had ordered me a book for christmas which arrived yesterday so started that in bed last night ( then fell asleep) so I shall look forward to reading that today.
We just have heat to endure today and then we start to get a bit cooler!
Have a nice evening0 -
* Survived husband's arm, hand surgery. Not bad at all for him...he said it was like a mosquito bite after having a shoulder replacement 4 yrs ago.
* Lovely fun stay with youngest daughter in Pennsylvania. A little rain but no snow which was nice. I talked to her last night and when she was traveling back home (we all spent Xmas in Albuquerque NM) the airline offered her a $1000 voucher to take a later flight. She jumped at the chance and that's now her plane fare covered for her summer European vacation. Score!
* Only one meltdown by DH when traveling to Penn. The day had be a horrendous experience with the airlines bumping us twice, overnight bag with his meds mistakenly taken by another passenger, 4 gate changes on one connecting flight and not much food consumption....at which point he threatened to divorce me for scowling at him. Our baby girl made everything all better when we finally arrived, after traveling for 17 hrs.
* The trip back to New Mexico went off without a hitch. Christmas week (including DH's surgery) was laid back and easy. All the kids/in-laws came in to DD1's and we had a fun time together. Everyone loved watching Sequoia open her gifts. She would stop and play with each gift, so present opening lasted into the afternoon. We stopped a few times to eat and visit. A thoroughly wonderful day.
* The kitchen remodeling is progressing nicely. I am almost through stocking my big new pantry. It's a pleasure to have space for things.
* I lost a lb over the weeks we were gone. Yippee!!!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Disobeyed.
Cannot buy pink a-f. Poured in what turns out to be yellow. Still looks pink-ISH, more than not.

Busy but enjoyable Christmas.
Am now away for a few days with DH.
1. Good friend staying over the Christmas period. He is very relaxing company.
2. A bonfire on Christmas day. Enjoyable and the weather was good for it. We all stood around and talked.
3. Home grown sprouts and parsnips and onions used on Christmas day
4. DS2 helping with the cooking and enjoying doing so.
5. DS1 home on Christmas day and saw more of him. He seems happier than he has for a while.
6. Watching rugby and we won just.0 -
Mahnin all
DforV - ouchy re Denby.....
Good pud, &
Hugs to Mhag....
Pleasures since previous
1. Glenn Miller Story duly watched - lovely.
2. OH came home and cooked tea - sausage and mash. A welcome change from festive food
3. Watched Apollo 13 with DS, (santa brought it for him) even though I've seen it, even though I know what happens, I still get tense :rotfl:
4. Up early yesterday and off to dads as he was 85 yesterday. First time he's had such a houseful for years and he was very happy. DS has gone top in the favourite grandchild stakes 1. for turning up and 2. for not only listening to but joining in with dads views on men on the moon (they never went, apparently)
5. Glad to be home, though it was lovely to see him on top form.
MiL coming today for New Year - I know i am so horrible, and I know I will feel bad when she departs this world, but geez she is hard work. i've never known anyone with quite the ability she has to chuck cold water over any festivities.
Happy new year...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Pleasures for yesterday:
1) A bit of a lie in.
2) Dentists at 9 at art deco cinema town. I only have to go once a year now (polishes halo). Bigger son's patched tooth has to have a filling in the New Year. :-/
3) Had our traditional post dentist cooked breakfast in the tea rooms.
4) Sons went to the barbers.
5) Did very little all day (it was -6 early on) but sat in front of the fire.
6) Bigger son finally started his maths homework. He's going to need to do something to pass but at least he's got online and made a start.
7) Didn't quite see ourselves on television! We did see a group of people where we stood at Trimpley then where we stood for an hour each day at the end station...

Very briefly as its way past my bedtime:
Just in from hospital. OH has been admitted for next 5-6 days. Our fabulous palliative pain doctor took control when I had called in this morning and arranged a bed. What a bed...we shall have excellent views of fireworks tomorrow at midnight and we are all allowed in. Kids will come in late evening.
I feel less stressed knowing he is in the right place.
Friend kindly picking me up in city and thanking me for asking her to help.
Nice sunshine today . Ground is dry and you would never know we had been sodden yesterday ( apart from foul smelly garage and carpeted workshop )
Home and DD1 had made the mildest chilli ever...shoved it in some bread and had a chili sandwich!
Have a good one!0 -
Caught up with your pleasures, a collection from me.
1. One of my best ever Christmas Days. Dr C. did his own thing this year which left me free to accept an invitation to a friend's. She had pork planned for lunch but was worried about the joint shrinking.
So I took over freshly cooked turkey on the back of the trike as my contribution for the meal, which also left me with loads of leftovers for the freezer. Splendid.
2. The wind dropped enough for cycling not to be impossible, having been howling at 7am on Christmas morning.
3. A Christmas afternoon of games and laughter at friends' place. No stress, no alcohol on account of my riding the trike back home, just great fun.
4. Christmas Eve was great too, family over, buffet lunch and making the annual Christmas Rocky Road fridge cakes with my grandchildren.
I think I mentioned this a previous year, this was a recipe culled from Family Circle magazine around thirty years ago when my children were much smaller than my grandchildren are now.
Rocky Road wasn't actually much of a thing over here then, but it was a spoof Adrian Mole celebrity recipe for children to make that is essentially a stollen-shaped Rocky Road fridge cake.
DG'son had his own white chocolate version as he doesn't like milk or dark choc.
I had a tiny dark choc one for me, DD, DSoniL and DGD a big dark choc one. Made with proper choc from Aldee, as it's just as cheap as cooking choc and tastes better.
5. Boxing Day was a friend's birthday get together. No need for the trike as another friend gave me a lift there, we had a great time, chatting, mostly over tea and coffee with the odd glass of something else. An unexpected gift of Christmas flowers from the friend who gave the lift.
Friend liked her birthday gifts of slippers & a leather purse and her Christmas gift leather handbag. All post free delivery and good prices thanks to 'River'.
Mhags, TG for the lifting of stress with OH's palliative care, also that that the flooding wasn't as bad as it could have been, although boo to smells. Saw your FB pics.
DfV. Another one wincing at the Denby.
I'm not meant to have breakable items of value, I've decided, too many similar tales. Or lost to Dr C's 'declutters' and discovered too late...!
I somewhat prefer my more planned version of decluttering, which will get back on track in the New Year. The British Heart Foundation got a bonanza collection in November and are due another.
Clothes as well as books, this time.
Weight loss not too derailed by Christmas, DB and DSiL gave me two lovely pairs of well fitting trousers that are a size below those I've worn of the last six years or so.
More non-festive pleasures that are still pleasures later.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
