  • 1) Managed to get studying and work stuff done this afternoon rather than it taking all day.
    2) Delayed coffee date with DH this afternoon.
    3) Nice comment about my home made jam from one of DD's friends. My family think I should sell it but I don't produce it to make money. Mostly, and this is weird, I just love the colours, in a stained-glass sort of way.
    4) Free fire again this evening.
    5) Finished DD's scarf. She wanted a frilly edge and I wasn't quite sure how to do it but fiddled around until I got something like. Then I tried it on and it looks quite pretty...
    6) Reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens this afternoon. I could never quite get on with him as a teenager and abandoned his books altogether after the gloom of Oliver but this one was lovely. I would recommend it.
    7) DH ringing DS, who is upstairs in the room above, to ask him to stop tapping his foot.

1 & 2. Lovely roast lunch, cooked by DH while I was stocking up on £1 Lloyd Grossman Sauces at our nearest Asda.
    3. Going to evensong in the cathedral with the choristers singing. Wonderful atmosphere and an amazing perspective on the beautiful building. Momentarily felt spiritually refreshed!
    4. Pie and mash for tea - using a couple of defrosted Whoopsies.
    5. Seeing DS1 cuddled up next to his dad on the sofa, watching Dr Who. (He wouldn't have his bedtime bath though, which you might understand if you watched it. Fingers crossed he'll be brave enough for a morning shower in the daylight.)

    Another week already eh?
  • I know exactly what you mean about the jam Patchwork. ;)
Glad your FIL is ok Bitsy. x

    Mine for today

    1. Spending 3 hours sorting out the girls memory boxes and the photograph trunk. It was a wonderful and often hilarious trip down memory lane.

    2. Chocolate cake from a friend for elevenses.

    3. Brilliant walk in the woods where small dog got soaked swimming in the loch and the girls had the bejesus scared out of them by OH and I telling ghost stories. :D

    4. Lighting the fire with foraged kindling.

    5. Roast lamb with lots of herbs from the garden and enough leftovers for shepherd' pie.

    Haribo x

Thank you so much Ampersand, Caterina, Ollie, Sunnygirl, everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes.

Blackpool was great fun, I wish we'd had longer. DGD2 thoroughly enjoyed her holiday, and I made a tentative peace with DS's OH to whom I took a dislike when she played around last year. However we can't hold grudges for ever and she makes him happy today, which is all I can ask. They live in Preston, not far from Blackpool, so we had a super time with them and their little family of 3 adorable children.

Sadly my dear Aussie friend has been diagnosed with Alzheimers, I've spent most of the last 3 weeks on line and on the phone with him. He's very frightened of course, I'm kicking myself for not accepting his proposal a couple of years ago and am now between a rock and a hard place as I have a very elderly mother whose own health is beginning to fail. On top of all this my DD who already has lupus had a health scare but turns out to be nothing sinister thank God, and yes, I had another brief spell in hospital as you'd guessed so all in all I've not felt I've had a daily 5 of anything (except fruit and veg perhaps!) to report.

Oh dear, that all sounds so depressing doesn't it, but we're getting through it with positive thinking which is the only way to handle it. No matter what has happened in our lives we do realise there are so many so much worse off.

I promise I will try to post more, don't want to be the rat who abandons ship just because the sea got a bit rough.I'll set to and start to read all the posts I've missed, that will keep me out of mischief for a few days! Thank you again for thinking of me,
as ever it's heartwarming to know this thread and all the wonderful people who make it are always here.

For now, night night n God bless

 morning all - the weather's turned all miserable and wet again here today - got wet putting the bin and recycling out earlier.

Patchwork - love the way you and your OH make room for 'your coffee dates' with each other :). Christmas Carol is one of the more 'feel-good' of the Dickens novels - I'm looking forward to seeing the new animated version of it.
scotrae - my DS2 used to hid behind the sofa whenever the Dr.Who music started playing - kids love to be scared by it ;). Good Luck with shower time this morning. That evensong sounds lovely - which cathedral was it in? We have Liverpool Anglican Cathedral which is a wonderful setting for choral music - there's the Metropolital Cathedral as well, but that's not quite as dramatic a setting.
HariboJunkie - what a wonderful family day you all had - recalling good memories, outdoor playtime, great food and a cosy evening by a real fire .
Rummer - Well done you :j - I've baked bread myself, but only from a packet mix :o. It's messing with yeast that I find 'quite daunting'.
sparrer - welcome back, it's so good to see you again grouphug.gif. Glad to hear that you all enjoyed Blackpool but very sorry to hear about your Aussie friend's diagnosis. I'm sure this is THE MOST scarey time for anybody with Alzheimer's - when they are first diagnosed and are fully aware of how the condition can progress. I hope he has a supportive family around him right now. Just make sure that YOU don't take on too much with all this going on around you right now.
bunny too - fingers crossed for you with your x-oh this evening ;).

    Mine for today:

    1. Managed to get a really good night's sleep.

    2. Yesterday's washing is now dry enough to put away.

    3. Need to deliver notes around my tenants to let them know I'm off tomorrow.

    4. DD's b/f had to go back to his own home last night, AND I didn't get a panic phone call - hoping that's a good sign. He's been staying with her all week. Gave her lots of TLC for the first couple of days and then started to get 'firm' with her about facing anxieties and overcoming them. Sort of 'kicking *donkey/mule*' but wearing slippers instead of hobnail boots ;). Seems to be having the desired effect anyway .

    5. Have taken some Lamb's Liver out of the freezer for tonight's tea. Will have with creamy mash, fried onions and cabbage .

    6. Seeing Yin/Yang on the posting list this morning and knowing that we've got sparrer back with us smiley-hug007.gif

back again later in the day - need to go for a shower and start work for the morning. love Ollie xxx

Ollie - love your smilies - they really brought a smile to my face :)
Sparrer lots of hugs, sounds like you're having a really hard time. I'm sure your support will be a great help to your friend and it sounds like you've got great family around you too.

    Mine for today are
1 - reading everyones posts! It's so nice to see the support people give each other
2 - walking to work on a very cold crisp morning
3 - because of walking to work I haven't had to fill the car with fuel yet this month!
4 - I managed to use up the tin of minced beef that came from OH's cupboard (it had been there for a while too!) - with some gravey, carrots onions and topped with mash it made a very passable variation on shepherd pie!
5 - I came back from the shops last night to find Oh had filled the kitchen with candles for dinner....we were only having fish and chips but it was lovely all the same. Funny how its the small thoughtful things that make the biggest impression.

    Have a good week all

    1. Getting confirmation from an old school friend that she's coming along to a curry we're having next month.
    2. The smell of my bread baking - yum!
    3. Dr Who on TV!
    4. My muse is still is residence and I wrote another chapter of my current story - have done c10,000 words since Thursday lunchtime! I love it!
    5. Getting a phone call from my brother to say he has a new lady in his life, and would I like to meet her? Of course I would! She likes travel, cats, curry and cars - I think we will get on just fine!
