5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

My 5:
Not waking up til 8 - and realising that neither of my boys had woken either;
Not having a the slightest twinge of the headache that has been bothering me for most of the week;
Half price parsnips and bananas from 'little Tesco' when I went to get DH some Saturday evening crisps as a treat;
My dear friend and neighbour, for whom I offered to babysit last night, bought me gorgeous bath roses and flowers to say thank you. Lovely - but I might not feel I can ask her a return favour now!:rotfl:
Playing a game of Scrabble on the lounge floor with one son while DH admired the other son's collection of Go-Gos (I don't think they were quite what DH had been expecting LOL!)0 -
1. Finding a lovely whole chicken for less than £3 in Tesco - that's at least two and hopefully more days worth of dinner next week
2. Scrubbing our bathroom from top to bottom and despite it being old and worn and horrible it is absolutely gleaming. Also watching my weird bleach-obsessed cat sitting at the bathroom door sniffing the bleach fumes and grinning like a maniac.
3. Watching five episodes of Come Dine With Me back to back
4. Sleeping in till nearly midday! (Not something I normally do, I've had a whole week of insomnia and my body obviously decided it was time to catch up on its beauty sleep)
5. Cutting my own fringe this morning and being able to see out again0 -
Didn't post Friday because I've been pretty busy so here's a substantial bunch of pleasures for two days:
1. Children's sports' coach telling me that he thinks it's about time he started giving me lessons which made me laugh.
2. Having my hair cut - it was about 3 months overdue and is in a very simple style that is not high maintenance (that's the MS/OS bit because if money gets tighter I can delay having the next cut, but it's lovely to look tidy again)
3. Getting my delivery of a Lakeland heated clothes airer (the three-tiered one that supposedly costs less than 3p/hour to run). It cost a stupid amount to buy but it fits beautifully into a gap in the kitchen, seems to work extremely well and will solve a lot of laundry problems through the winter without having to have the heating on to dry clothes so I'm very pleased with it.
4. Unexpectedly getting a refund for a stay we had in a £60 family room on a trip away. The accomodation (part of a huge chain) was very unsatisfactory - it shouldn't have been, we've used them lots before. We are getting a full refund and they enclosed vouchers for all of us to use to have another night away wherever we want in the UK sometime in the next year as well.
5. Sending the children off to the supermarket on Friday afternoon to get some extra bits for the packed lunch we needed today and leaving the choice up to them. DS1 packed the picnic basket and it wasn't until today that I discovered they'd bought some lovely treats like nectarines and ginger biscuits.
6. Actually, I'm going to add in the basket itself as a pleasure as well! We use a wicker shopping basket all year round to put all our packed lunch/picnic food in. It feels very OS but is awfully practical since things don't get squashed or fall over in it. I've been noticing lots of other people using baskets for food recently.
7. Setting off well before dawn this (Saturday) morning to drive to a sports competition over 2 hours away. It was still very blowy and small trees were down but we made good time and it was a relief that the storm wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
8. DS being pleased with his results at the event and passing a sport-related test for something he's been trying to organise for ages.
9. Seeing so many friends there and having a very sociable day, including meeting the wonderfully content and smiley baby girl some friends have had since I last saw them. I got some useful work done too.
10. Cup of tea, ginger biscuits (there were a few left over  ) and my hottie on my lap while I've been reading posts and typing this. I rate dipping ginger biscuits in hot tea as one of my top ten pleasuresof all time.
Sweet dreams

Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.

I find it hard to chat on the computer, so just love reading ollie etc. who is brill at it.. :wave:0 -
:hello: Good morning all - gone very quiet here now after all the winds/heavy rain of the past couple of days. Bins are scattered all over the garden, so need to go and pick them, AND all the rubbish, up again .
ampersand - I'm another who loves reading your tales of M et Mme Merle. Your 'BTTower/Sputnik' earrings sound absolutely fabulous - and it does us good to try styles that 'aren't really us' sometimes. My kids often look with  at some of my jewellery experiments. I have a gorgeous 'earcuff' which attaches to a stud earring with a short length of chain
. :j on the arrival of your Winter Fuel Payment.
Caterina - I just love those kind of meetings with total strangers. My kids say I'll talk to 'anybody' - my response is 'And, why ever not?' I don't believe in 'chance meetings' - we are given many daily opportunities to 'touch people's lives' and it's our duty to make those count to that person.
at your gift of a
.
SunnyGirl - good to hear you're feeling a bit better. I don't normally watch X Factor, but saw a bit of it last night because it was 'Queen Evening'.
newlywed - :j wtg on your 'freebie shopping items' - hope it tastes all the better for being free.
ACEY - wd to your two boys for playing together so nicely for you - half the battle when they manage to get on together. My DS1 and DS2 are chalk/cheese - maybe 6yrs was too big a gap for them to ever have had anything in common.
BitsyBeans - :T to your OH for getting on with the decorating and hope your family 'do' goes well today.
nuttybabe - well done to your DD that she played well with your friend's daughter - they all develop their social skills at different ages. Maybe she's always clung to her brother as a 'playmate' - my DD was always the shadow to DS2 - almost like twins as only 13mths apart in age.
yummyhoney - lol at you getting your own pressie on amazon. I've just got OH's from there too - Complete Box Set of Hamish Macbeth at a real bargain price
.
scotrae - glad to hear that your headache has passed and how sweet of your neighbour for the roses.
angeltreats - Great lie-in - you must have really needed it.
Broomstick - Well done to your ds's on their 'sporty weekend' and wtg on the hotel refund :j.
bunny too - Fingers crossed that you get your 'peaceful mum and son day' today. awww
- it's not just on the keyboard that I 'rabbit away' - I can just talk for England anytime .
Mine for yesterday:
1. Put my SC of Scouse on first thing in the morning .
2. DS1 found a pressure cooker in an empty house that had been boarded up and asked me if I could use it - he did ask permission from the Housing Office first. I've been a bit reluctant as I didn't recognise the make (Megafesa) and wasn't sure if it was 'working'. Finally 'had a go' yesterday morning and produced a lovely batch of Carrot and Coriander Soup. Now in the freezer :j.
3. OH's christmas present arrived this morning - bargain price from Amazon - Complete DVD Box Set of Hamish Macbeth which he loves.
4. Trip to my favourite charity shop. Delicious coffee, Kathy Reichs book that I didn't have (Cross Bones) and a 'chance meeting' with a lovely young man in a wheelchair at my table for coffee. He lives with his alcoholic father who's 'on a binge' at the moment. Was able to give him some Housing and Credit Union Info that he needed.
5. Poundland (cheap toaster bags, silicon baking sheet) and B&M Bargains (Rowse Honey, Oxo cubes, Posh Mayo, Cranberry Sauce, Posh Mint Sauce) :money:.
6. Asda for a freebie coffee with full loyalty card.
7. Not much in the way of whoopsies (peppers, mangey tuts, leeks, melon, lemons) for me yesterday but some great rollbacks - lots of veg that now needs prepping/freezing. Plenty of stuff for Christmas stash box. Lovely little bolero/cardigan for dgd1 to go with the dress that I got her PLUS some hair/bling accessories AND a half-price top (£4) for DD. Some bodysprays on rollback too - will do for dgd1's stocking fillers. Visited Claire's Accessories (made me feel like 'Granny Grunt'!) to check out about gift vouchers for dgd1.
8. Heading off to St.Helens for the car boot sale this morning and then to Wilko's to sort out some Christmas deccies for DD.
Hope everybody is having a great weekend. Will call back in again this evening for a catch up. ((((BIG HUGS)))) all round - love Ollie xxx0 -
Ok, here are mine for the last day or two. Sorry I've not been about as much as I'd like - it has been a bit busy and I've really been cracking on with my cross stitch.
1. Going to pick up my old coat from the seamstress - I've had a new lining put in it and it has been refreshed and repaired when necessary. I wish I could have done it myself, but re-lining a coat is a bit beyond me, sadly.
2. Cracking on with my cross stitch. A few days ago I thought it would take about 8 weeks to finish. Now I think it'll only take another 4 weeks.
3. A nice hot cup of tea this morning. And waking up without gasping for breath and coughing like mad.
4. Looking forward to my chocolate ration. I know, I know, there's no rationing, but I like the idea of allowing myself a small amount of dark chocolate every day. If it helps me to eat less chocolate...
5. Finding a quarter of a coconut cake in the chest freezer that I'd forgotten about. Every now and again a bit of dessert is nice.
I might be making some chocolate chip cookies this afternoon. I quite fancy some hot from the oven, but we'll see. It's my birthday soon and I have to bring cakes into the office. I think I'll make something instead! Otherwise, there's more cross stitch on the cards and I need to find something chickeny for tea. Not sure what to do yet though!
Have a lovely day everyone

Morning everyone :hello:
Sorry to hear you have been so ill Newlywed.
Yesterday's pleasures for me.....
1. a bit of time in the garden with the hens. They all follow me now and their characters are shining through.
2. Just OH and myself at home while the girls were at rehearsals. Just nice to chill out toghether with no interruptions.
3. Joining all the other proud mums and dads at the dance show where my two were brilliant. It was lovely to see so many families enjoying themselves and a free day out. Parents and children seem to be getting alot of bad press on MSE lately from some posters who never miss an opportunity to have a go and it was lovely to see that families and lots of children are still important in my community.
4. Winning a bottle of Bailey's in the raffle. :j:beer::o:D:rotfl:
5. Drinking the Baileys.hic.
Have lovely days everyone. xxxx0 -
Morning all :A
Hugs to those who need them.
Mine for today:
1. Made a coffee and went back to bed and had a bit of a lie in with Mr Muppet, whilst listening to Steve Wright's love songs. Mr Muppet has man flu at the moment so needs a lot of TLC. Watched the rain running down the window and the sky getting ever darker.
2. Going to light the woodburner this afternoon and sit and watch The Water Horse. Been meaning to watch it for ages.
3. Whilst watching the film, we will no doubt polish off the rest of the Grans Natter bars which I made yesterday. Thanks for the recipe Patchwork ... they are delish! Made them in my trust Remoska.
4 and 5 ? I am struggling a bit but hey ho !!!Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
I bob in every now and then. Thought I'd post...
1. Went shopping with wicker basket and loads of old carrier bags...
got reduced lamb joint for dinner tonight, plus reduced Tbone steak to build up other half who hasn't eaten for a week now with a stomach bug (I know - £5 is VERY expensive, but he really hasn't eaten more than two bowls of cereal, a banana and a very small dinner last night - thats in a whole week - he needs TLC)
2. Realised that the economy 14 minute wash in my mamchine does my woolly jumper admirably so washed them and hung them on radiators to dry
3. Going to go rescue some houseplants that are still outside
4. Cutting down on ironing to once a fortnight by wearing clothes more times (I used to wear something fresh every day) and choosing clothes that don't need to be ironed
5. Homemade veg soup for lunch made from odds and ends in the fridge (reduced price carrots, reduced price swede, end of onion, rubbery end of broccoli, two small reduced price potatoes)
6 Bought On Offer Walkers crips which still have the codes for the Days Out - will check how many I have later on today - might get a weekend away at Xmas!
Now I'm going to turn the heating down, finish the house cleaning, put the stuff for charity shop in the boot of the car so I might actually get round to dropping it off, make dinner for when OH gets home from fixing computers, and then chill out knitting a super warm jumper from wool from Aldi (for me, for winter), I was going to stop there but cat number 3 is crawling all over me saying that every time I go to the supermarket there is fresh catfood so THEY want to be fed, which means scrubbing the cat plate (we use an old turntable from a microwave - 3 big cats can all get their faces in without argument).
It's amazing how much more I get done when OH is out of the house! (He's getting looked after at the pub by the happy recipients of his computer skills - fix a computer, go to pub, get collected from pub to fix another computer, and no doubt back to the pub - hey ho at least it will be a 'free' afternoon out for him)0 -
Mine for today are -
1. Visit to Tesco with meal plan and only bought ONE thing extra not on list (Falafal mix as havnt tried it from this shop before and 99p)
2. Sloes defrosted and waiting to be `Ginned` when its dark later with a glass of mulled wine....yum
3. Baking and Radio 4 this afternoon - soup / chilli / flapjacks
4. Thai spiced mussels for tea - recipe from economy gastronomy
5. Hearing my little Sis has finally got it together with her on off blokie - although he does live 6 hrs drive away from her!0
