Hello!
I missed posting yesterday but I was out with a good friend and we went to a really fun event which has left me feeling very upbeat and motivated. It was all about appreciating the little things in life, keeping healthy and having fun. So I will tell you my 5 for both days in one!
Yesterday
- Baked muffins
- Shared them with a friend
- Motivational night out with above friend and a good giggle
- Did a whole load of jobs I normally leave to the wknd, now I can have more me time at the wknd!
- Got lovely news from a friend who is making a better life for herself
- Eating home baked muffins for breakfast (pear and cinnamon, yum)
- Completing another big project at work
- Half way through work dancing the dust off
- Coming home to a fairly tidy house
- Having the rest of the evening off to just relax!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Newlywed get well soon!
1) Cleaned and tidied house this morning. This also saves on heating because I don't need it one while I'm a) wearing a 'pinny' (I am becoming my Grandma) and b) running up and down stairs.
2) Met DH for lunch. We went somewhere that had been recommended and won't go back but it was nice to sit somewhere different and have someone else do all the fetching and carrying.
3) Being asked for my mince pie recipe.
4) Just had the car MOTed and able to cover the cost through all the tips and support on this site.
5) Managing to get my family sorted out and fed on time this evening, plus two unexpected guests, when three people had changed their minds about what they were doing. Sometimes, it takes the wisdom of Solomon!
Have a pleasant evening, everyone0 -
Hi all
Ollie, actually I didn't google re. blinds assembly, but what a great idea, I shall do that! Thank you for giving me this good idea!
Newlywed, have I missed a post from you or your hospitalisation and op were quite sudden? Whatever happened to you, I am glad that you are better now and wish you all the best for a full and speedy recovery!
I am also wondering what happened to Ampersand, Sparrer and also Reverbe, hope you are all well and just having a break. Missing your posts!
Acey, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway is a great book, it changed my life many years ago, it taught me to take responsibility for my actions and thoughts. This new way of thinking gave me amazing results, a completely different outlook on life and the ability to accept myself and others much better.
Here are my five for the day:
1 - Sourdough bread kneaded and fermenting, waiting to be finished and baked tomorrow morning.
2 - Aerobics with DD, great fun and having DD coming with me is a great incentive to shift my lazy a** and go even when I cannot be bothered.
3 - First antenatal meeting with my Italian friend/client, we had a lunch meeting in a lovely little veg. cafe in Greenwich and at the end of the meeting she said she feels much more positive about birth choices. Am delighted for her but also that I haven't lost my doula touch!
4 - Dinner: Pasta with green cauliflower sauteed in garlic, DS complimented me and said it is his favourite pasta meal. Also had cooked sweetcorn that I had cooked last night over the woodstove (always love it when I can make it work double!).
5 - DS's friend came in and helped me with my PC, installed the new memory and now the computer ROCKS! I am delighted with the difference it has made.
Have a good night, everyone xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening everyone
Am not very good yet at counting my blessing every day, but am trying!
These are yesterdays.....today has NOT been a good day
1. waking up to blue skies, ok so it turned yukky later but the the sky was so blue early, I even took my early morning coffee outside albeit still in my dressing gown lol (hope I didn't scare the neighbours)
2. actually making time to eat breakfast...I tend to rush about like a mad thing in the mornings as am too tired when I get home to do anything but make tea. so toast and marmalade for brekky was lovely
3. enjoying my walk to work in the above sunshine and looking about me and realising what a lot of lovely buildings there are, old mill town and some of the buildings are amazing
4 . Getting a friend request on facebook from someone I had lost touch with about 8 years ago, glad to be back in touch, and very touched to be found
5. speaking to DD when I got home from work and reassuring her that she is NOT a bad mummy cos DGD is poorly again...its just a part of children gaining immunity to certain bugs and DD saying thanks mum, you have made me feel betterwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/110 -
My five for Thursday:
1. Waking up this morning to a completely tidy bedroom and realising that it's a regular occurrence. I've been on (American) Flylady's e-mails for about 8 years and am starting to 'get it'More and more of the house is getting sorted and it shows!
2. Last night's leftover potato and gruyere pie and a very nice organic plum for lunch.
3. Sorting more magazine articles for work while DS2 was with his friends.
4. Having a nap when we got back in at tea time (and discovering that DS1 had done the washing up while we'd been out).
5. Apples I baked last night were scrummy warmed up with cream tonight. Will definitely pre-cook apples like this in future. Such a simple pudding when the oven is on anyway.
I'm up much too late wrapped in a fleece but the kettle's on for my hottie and I'm really looking forward to bed.
Sleep well everyone.

Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.
1. Worked out at last how the timer for the CH works, so lovely to wake up to a warm house this morning.:j
2. New iron cost £3.75 from mr a, bargain, and it.s great.:money:
3. Slowly getting into the veggie cooking, because i'm not used to the flavours, its hard to get the taste right iykwim. Not adding bisto to thicken things i miss that meaty taste. Son has a much different palate than me, he is loving the food, he hates fat, has stopped eating any beef, pork or lamb dishes. Will eat things made with mince, no visible fat.
4. Going to spend a bit of time searching for veggie recipes on here. Found the weezel's pate by accident. Son just loves it for pack lunch.
5, nsd. Hopefully for the whole weekend.
Have a great os day everyone, hugs to all who need them xx:wave:0 -
Wednesday/Thursday:
1. Calling in at Mcdonalds to reclaim the 'filet of fish' that they forgot to pack in DH's bag a few weeks back when he called in to get something for all of us. Eating it at home alone, which felt very wrong and indulgent! (Lucky they didn't forget to pack anyone else's food or there would have been pandemonium.)
2. Nice shiny clean bathroom floor after a good scrub with a little brush.
3. Baking very tasty little chocolate cakes and having them rated as 10/10 (without icing) and 20/10 (with) by sons.
4. One son clearing his plate of home-made cottage pie and vegetables. (He's been getting very fussy with his food lately.)
5. Taking effortlessly clean plates out of the dishwasher. I'm not convinced it's fitted in perfectly but it's there!
I'll catch up on the thread over the weekend, once headache and job application are out of the way!0 -
Good morning  everybody - doesn't feel quite so cold today - well at least I wasn't shivering when I came downstairs BEFORE the heating clicked on. Maybe I'm just getting 'less wimpy' about it .
angeltreats - well done on using your SC for the first time - not tried rice pudding in mine at all as OH doesn't like it - and wd to your OH as well on his first day back at work.
newlywed - great to see you back again- but like Caterina, I'm wondering if I missed something in your posts - don't remember you mentioning having to go into hospital. Sounds as though you're really glad to be back home again so prayers for you that all is now well again.
savingforoz - good luck to your friend and her baby - hope everything is OK for them both. Well done on getting back into your writing.
yummyhoney - dd=dearest/darling daughter; ds=dearest son; dgk=dearestgrandkids; dh/oh=dearest hubby/other half; dm=mother; dsd=deareststepdaughter etc. I use the number to indicate order of age of the kids eg ds1 = eldest son, though I know that some people put the age but that would leave me with two dgs8's. Hope that helps - but reading it back, it now sounds even MORE complicated . Well done on the Twinks.
sunflower76 - What a lovely day.
Muppet81 - :T to you for making time to take somebody to hospital for an appointment - I know that's often a big struggle in some rural environments. Good Luck with your ancestry project - it's fascinating stuff.
SunnyGirl - 'Lily' sounds a real sweetie. Well done on getting your windows cleaned. Insides of mine need doing (AFTER the guy has now done the outsides!) but it's a job I hate AND they're going to need doing again before I put the tree up for Christmas, so they can wait till I get my nets down to wash
- usually in the 1st or 2nd week of December. at your son's arm.
ACEY -have to admit that I too just had to try making a fist after what you said :rotfl:. Fingers crossed that your Court Hearing goes well whenever it's rearranged for. Well done you on 'doing the M5' - I'm not a driver but I can imagine that motorways are THE most scarey places if you're not 100% confident. Thanks for the title of that book - maybe another useful one
.
nuttybabe - well done on getting your kids back into school again - at least a couple of hours a day of relative freedom during the week PLUS the chance to enjoy a drink while it's still HOT.
bella - Well done you on your 'foodie' day - bet your place smells divine with the blueberry muffins and lemon drizzle cake .
Rummer - wow that meeting must have had a real effect on you - make the most of your weekend to recharge.
Patchwork - wtg over the car MOT and well done you on 'juggling' your family and the evening meal :rotfl:.
Caterina - Have you seenthis site about blinds - that bit is about measuring, but there's a section on fitting as well? I came across loads of sites but not sure if any of them would be suitable for the type that you've made - Good Luck. Well done on your new doula client and hope all goes well for you both.
Dazi - sorry to hear that yesterday wasn't brilliant but well done on Wednesday's list. It's amazing how much of our usual surroundings we miss, just by looking down or straight ahead when we're walking. The upper levels of some of our town buildings are so fabulous that they deserve our attention sometimes. Well done on encouraging your DD - it's so easy to feel that every little thing is YOUR fault when you're a young mum.
Broomstick - Well done on your fly-ladying - and to your DS1 for getting the dishes sorted for you. That potato and gruyere pie sounds lovely, do you have a recipe please?
bunny too - :T on working out the C/H - needs a degree in physics to understand my DD's. Mine is so straight-forward - combi-boiler on, set the timer and the room thermo and away you go.
scotrae - cottage pie and veg was always a winner in our house with my kids as well. Good Luck with the job application AND the headache.
Mine for yesterday are:
1. Panicky phonecall from DD in the morning and then nothing all day. Decided NOT to contact her in case I started her off again - but knew she had b/f with her. Rang her around 11.00pm and she sounded much calmer. Said the day hadn't been brilliant but she actually sounded almost like her old self - I could almost hear 'laughter' in her voice for a change.
2. Delivered more notes through letterboxes and have now discovered that I need to do another one for next week (grrrrrr). Will need to get it sorted before lunchtime today as well.
3. OH went shopping yesterday and brought back some whoopsie deli-counter curries for evening meal - made a nice change not having to cook anything - pinged the curries and did a pan of pasta.
4. Had a horrendous downpour yesterday tea-time and then discovered that both my communication systems had failed as I couldn't 'dial into them'. Had to go out and 'fiddle around' in the main control boxes and reset both systems. Can't understand how BOTH went down at the same time- there is absolutely NOTHING physically/electronically connecting them. It sometimes happens if we've had thunderstorms but even then it's a 'freak thing' and there was definitely no lightning/atmospheric disturbances yesterday.
5. Really enjoying Emmerdale/Corrie at the moment - some brilliant acting from both casts.
Well I'm off now to get myself showered and start work for the day. Good Luck everybody and (((((BIG HUGS))))) all round - love Ollie xxx0 -
Hi all and hugs to those who need them today. The more I read, the more I start to feel that I am getting to know you all. Sorry that so many of you have difficult issues to deal with.
Just received letter giving the date of my biopsy - 24th November. Seems such a long time to wait, plus the waiting for the results.
I am so going to need to look for those OS pleasures in the intervening days.
1) Along with the biospy letter received a card from a friend sending me hugs. She used to live nearby then moved 2 years ago but we are still very close friends.
2) Another friend popped round for a coffee and a chat, though she did scare me a bit with her extensive tales of hospitals. So probably only half counts as a pleasure.
3) Kitchen all nicely gleaming following a good clean. I am now going to try making the natter bars recipe so it won't stay clean for long.
4) Typing this and cuddling me lovely old cat, Lucy. She always makes me feel better... but does little for my typing.
5) Tesco online shop arrived. Food all squirrelled away to be enjoyed this week. Found 5 free samples of shampoo and conditioner in with the shopping. Love freebies
xxxThank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
