It's December. Already. <Will Not Gibber, but am dashed tempted>
Anyway, still things that have raised a grin, or worse.
Oh gods. Son read "Hippocrates, Galen" & I heard "hypocrisies". We've agreed the latter are essential for Christmas thank you letters & that the world is a better place for the scientists.
Remembering a silver brass band giving the classic carols a good airing on Princes St at the weekend. Lovely!
Enquiring of son "are you dressed for outside" & getting a snort between "am I heck" & "depends on which outside", followed by a "not yet but I will be". How long to wait then?!
Watching very tall dad trying to shop with competently toddling daughter. Happily she decided he needed navigation & stretched up for his hand...
It's Advent, so Mince Pie Season is officially open in our house. Husband has devoured the first admitted to & declared them flavourful. As eschewing, my role is mostly to sit & watch...
Grand Tour - the chaps are snortling over the replacement Veyron & over the chaps' banter. "Guide snakes for the blind" were approved of though. The destruction of Clarkson towers was cheered by all.
Lovely son has brought me a big mug of tea without asking. Some days the challenges of being a parent are outweighed by the perks.
Consulted with lowland Scot father on how to cook pinhead oat porridge as my version was chewy & very steady delivering as I kept finding bits in my teeth. Must try harder.
Things we do for love - tried to open a bottle of superglue. Clamped between my teeth. My jaw aches & the bottle is still shut - my reputation for opening tricky jars etc dented.
Colleague has dished out advent calendars rather than cards. My sons think she's wonderful & that today is the 17th (& climbing) of December...
Reviewing the photos & smiling at the one of the bus upholstery. Where else has the castle you're riding past woven into the bus seat? (Also grinning at memory of sons' bafflement as to why I would take a photo.)
I think I shall pass out, and review the whole Christmas present situation in the morning. Raffles midear, could you flick a whisker in the NW direction? Our yellow stuff supplies have become lamentably intermittent.
Hugs & blessings to all who need them, hot water bottles & climate appropriate headgear likewise, and I will find my Christmas spirit somewhere...0 -
Quick pleasures for today.
1) Not a bad sleep but woken before 7 by bigger son's cough. Why have a jolly good cough when you can cough a tiny bit, 90 million times throughout the day...
2) Went to see the hens. Looks like the rat plague is coming to an end. We checked the traps (8 of them) and no rats caught today. We no longer know the total but it was over 40...
3) Made sausage and egg sandwiches for breakfast.
4) Went to Croome (NT) and I thought we'd do our usual 2 mins in the gift shop and 30 seconds looking at the house in the distance - but no! Sons intrigued by the frozen lake and spent an hour walking round it and skimming stones across the surface - a really strange, metallic noise. Lovely handbell ringers in the house but smaller son disgusted that some children had been given sleigh bells "to join in" and were RUINING IT, so he wouldn't listen!
5) Went to McD where, in the queue, was the student that I had to send out yesterday :-/ He looked vaguely at me and said nothing, which is fine.
6) Smaller son fell asleep in the car on the way home, so we drove past home and into small holly town so he could wake up and see the Christmas lights.
7) Watched I'm a Celebrity.
8) Brother popped round.
9) In bed with 1hwb and might listen to the Now Show again,0 -
1) Luton winning 6-2 (sorry bop)
2) very nice lunch made from leftovers
3) gbf came round after and we took dogs for long walk
4) showed him round the house, what's been done so far and what I hope gets done next. He laughed at the clutter, and has promised to introduce me to Marie condo in the new year
5) mr piano cooked tea. Mr p and Friend who from now on shall be called mr dog cos he is soooo soppy about the canines had been to historical sights in Arbroath. Mr piano cooked tea and we listened to lots of queen and Bowie (mr dog at 22 has up to now mainly listened to radio 3).MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1) The most beautiful frosty morning out there today, green area behind DD1s house is So white it looks like snow!
2) Messiah concert last night was the best I've heard from the choral society and the Halleluyah chorus magnificent, stood grinning like the Cheshire cat through it, fab!
3) Got my boots yesterday so happy feet guaranteed for the next couple of years.
4) Skiing on the TV after the Ski Jumping little earlier on, love those winter sports.
5) He Who Knows is on his way to us so Nell is making a pot of coffee which will be most welcome!0 -
Falls of chair, choking. I think the piano tinkler has gotten hold of some ... Oh, I see the hatters wasted all their goals in one match!
5 It is not over yet, and BoP this day lazed inn far too long. Had to do quick trim of beard on a rush as BoPsie was pantic to get her shoppings inn. Still, can not rush the trimmings at this time of year. As it was late, had to beast on the big breakfast as well. Tum is being rubbed.
4 No as handed down recipe again, the puds of xmas have been made, hand stirred. Fruits that have matured the last four weeks in whiskey, BoP refuses to use brandy due to the frogs selling excepts to the Junta. You will not see French things at all. Anyway, three puds this yea are being steamed as BoP writes. You know who wears the apron!
3 Just watching the SA Cricket and planning tour of BoP for next year. Big one. More, as mila retorts, More later.
2 Nite for T is fast food. The second fish pie, with non Icelandic cod, is out of the cold and ready to be topped with cheese. Wild be served with mushy peas and salad. Pudding of cake will also be served as well as veg soup. No, change of mid, it will be Tom Soup with hand torn garli croutons. Proper foods, none of that here.

1. After a shaky start to the week with a tummy bug that sadly required 2 days out of school, I triumphantly returned and was rather happy to be back with the class
2. School fete done! I spent a fortune on nothing in particular, and brought DD in to the curious greetings of most of my class
3. DD, Monty Don and I spent rather a long time together yesterday!!! We had a brilliant time, going around the big town's former prison, taking lots of photos and chatting. She thinks he's lovely, such a big relief to have her seal of approval.....
4. Scrummy dinner in Prezzzo, Monty and I both ordered lovely pizzas and swapped half of eachSo nice to be out with a chap who is about 90% veggie
DD was happy with her traditional margarita....yawn
5. DD was player of the match at netball today, shame her team lost but she played brilliantly, it was well deserved.
6. Roadtested my new 'skins' top, and felt soo snuggly. Next week, I'll put the leggings on as well, as my lower half was f-r-e-e-z-i-n-g!!!
7. Whole school trip to the panto tomorrow, yippee!0 -

1) fun service. i was on sunday school - isaiah 11 with the lamb and the lion - our sunday school leaders' book has them sitting side by side at the bar with martinis complete with olives! (needless to say we did not have martinis at sunday school, neither shaken nor stirred!')
2) friend's 60th. mr piano gave me a lift over. he was invited but had already made other plans. lovely food, lovely company
3) did some cleaning before the decorator arrived. so exciting. he's going to do my bedroom and bathroom while i'm away in pakistan. we will go buy the paint on saturday. he reckons he'll finish the whole house by march which is super duper exciting.
4) listening to aled jones, young and old, duetting the snowman. love it
5) cooking leek and potato soup in slow cooker. i love mr piano living here, but i do love time on my own pottering round the house (don't know why pottering is more difficult when someone else is around) not quite so exciting is finding a load of mouse droppings in the downstairs cupboard. no sign as yet of brown furriesMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1. Didn't she have /a luvverley time / the days she spent in Par-iss :-)
Gorgeous, gorgeous few days. Brilliant hostel Yves Robert.
Mila's OH, Mrs LW, all others of ballon ovale persuasion - this beautiful runaway try from Beauden & will never forget.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12WQeiS3SFk
ABs had to wear silly jumpers and played as well as win needed, without disrespect to les Bleus.
Whole match, means haka included at 9.16m in :-)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMc5_VsDiyU
N.B. WE WON DESPITE WAYNE BARNES AS ARBITRE.
& sang both anthems and kamate! haka challenge [by request :-)] bien sûr and was in full AB fig, avec grand drapeau.
Much friendship all round towards & and deep metaphysical level discussion. Marvellous marvellous night and moon and weather and stay, until....
2. Due back on 20h lundi ferry, but this
http://www.lavoixdunord.fr/81669/article/2016-11-28/un-camion-rempli-de-sucre-se-renverse
meant horrendous delays, d!viations, routes barr!es, 65kms extra, little orange lightie brightly on and 4+hrs for last 8 km.
Ferry didn't wait. & eventually drew level with 2 trucks[not 1, as reported] in a V tipped into canal on other side under floodlit cranes and massed blue flashing police lights. Meanwhile & and all others from both directions tippytyring along high camber voie unique farm track on other bank. Don't slither either way & - canal on left, muddy ploughed champ and small fosse on right. Absolute nightmare. Rtn part of tkt not honoured, despite ALL & noises. Had to buy again for soonest next-est WHICH WAS MERCREDI. 2 BELLS:eek::eek::eek:...with Spits to prep. for same day.
Back here after 7 bells. Allowed self 2 hr nap. Autopilot loaded and drove> Spits, setting off at 0230. Great offset with the Parthenon horse's head ESK[pre 1896]sepia/pencil tableau going to person who confirmed 'me, please'.
3. Dimanche spent puces-ing at Vanves. Another glorious day, m!t!o and camaraderie and achats, many of which sold at Spits. Happy &. At least delay of 32 heures meant & hit 2 magasins b!n!voles du nord during day.
4. 2 Church fête-y things hier and & did best to be at both, spend wisely.
Several 50s tailor-made 'frocks+boleros' have been gently laundered, ironing demain - both made for another titled lady, as explained by F[who can come across as prickly, but ain't necessarily so]: 'C's father's 2nd wife's sister-in-law, Lady D.' [no, not that one...] Also something over 40 No More Books, some extraordinary volumes, which & will continue researching after this. Left to sight of astounding sun on fire descending. Lainey knows our Fenny west ablaze at end of day. Then, up came sliver moon with Venus suspended directly below - just about the same tonight.
5. & has finally fitted new shower but blasty-blast, had to return to Screwfix again after Church today. Little round black bit should not have been thrown out with old one>Screwfix rubblish. Nice boy Curtis found it:T
6. It was brrrrrrbitter at trumpy carboot, circa 6 bells. Couldn't concentrate, felt sick from cold, despite many sensible layers. Packed out. Prob. & has been running on empty a bit, or else feeling loss of 6" of hair, which was scissored under persuasion during last week's debadgering. It's still touching waist, so not exactly endangered.
7. Frith - hope Barbara has enjoyed her Jour de Fête today:D

[sort of works with Castro defunt too]
If les saps+pomps had known & was missing a ferry because....perhaps they were tired after a spirited playing of our proper national anthem in Stade de France.
8. Lovely Beurre de Ferme bought from &'s famille du nord en route back. Emporium crimbo crackers -only slightly explained:rotfl:- left for le grand repas de minuit 24 d!cembre. Will be much fun for all, but tucked away secretly for now.
9. Austrian election result:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T, d.g., which followed this outstanding, compelling, must-listen from Alvin Hall:

which in turn followed this:

10. dd - this is last week's virtuoso accordion link to France Inter:
https://www.franceinter.fr/emissions/la-preuve-par-z
It's Vincent Peirani – Choral (Thrill Box), starts at 25.21m in.
Listening to whole programme again as I head back to No More Books research. Prochain titre: Guide Pratique Pour l'Analyse Chimique et Microscopique de l'Urine, Des S!diments et Des Calculs Urinaires, 1887, par le Docteur L. Gautier............

Gosh, how do I follow an exciting ampersandpost?
It's now Monday morning and after a very uncomfortably hot day yesterday we have a more manageable weather week ahead.
A day of hospital...first of many medically things this week.
Yesterday I had a nice chat with friend from home after I'd had a nice early morning walk with dog ( trying to get it done before too hot)
Then a little team of garden clearers came and attacked our front garden, which is large and had got very overgrown with the biggest of weeds. So much rain ( unseasonable amount) in spring meant that as well as the flowers looking fabulous the weeds had grown vastly. I could not garden post op, OH is certainly not fit so all I could do for a few weeks was watch them grow...anyway, it all looks much neater and tidier . Right now from my bedroom window I can see 2 collared doves pootling around where previously was big grassy weeds...so that's a much nicer view.
I strung up my gingerbread men , spelling out CHRISTMAS and then allowed the children to eat them! ( after I'd taken a photo!)
DD1 and I went up to school Christmas Fayre and had a wander. I bought a little blackboard ( I do like a blackboard) sign with countdown days to Christmas on it. As we were having a wander round a huge gust of wind whipped round and stalls were lifted right up and stuff was flying everywhere. Bizarre....and then came the rain!
Now if that rain makes my weeds grow I won't be happy!
Home for a little while and then back up to school for carol concert, which should have been outside but was inside as it was lashing down with rain and had thankfully cooled the air.
Right...a dog needs walked and then city bound!0
