5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Hugs to everyone who's having a tough time. I wish I could sprinkle magic fairy dust around and make everything better.
My OS pleasures today include:
1) A good night's sleep last night. My asthma has flared up of late - it always does when the weather turns colder - and I've been coughing and wheezing a bit. I've tweaked the medication and consequently slept like a log last night though, and I seem very much more normal (ha ha) today.
2) Car insurance was up for renewal, but in true MSE style instead of just accepting the renewal quote I phoned them and to my delight, after a certain amount of time spent charming the young man on the phone, I've managed to knock a whopping £300 off next year's cost. I do wish they'd just offer this loyalty discount and not make us work so hard to secure it though!
3) Fired up with enthusiasm after this success, I spent a slightly more stressful 45 mins on the phone with BT but have still managed to reduce my landline bill with them by about £150 p.a.
4) Am being taken out by the family to see the Fantastic Beasts film on Sunday evening, as a birthday treat.
5) I have next week off work, yay! Just going to potter about at home with Mister C J, playing with Rufus the ever-growing-puppy (now three times as big after only six weeks, eek he's going to be huge!) and I am really looking forward to it.
6) Wrapped and labelled all the Advent Calendar gifts last night while watching Scarlett and Carol eat horrible things on I'm A Sleb. I make advent calendars for Mister C J, both daughters, and both their partners. It's easy to source little beauty gifts for the girls, but boys are so tricky to buy for. I'm pleased with the selection of small tools, hardware and tech things I have managed to find this year though! Hurrah for pound shops and chinese online auction shops.0 -
DD. So sorry, but you still found pleasures..:T
For yesterday:
1.DH took me out to take my mind of some things bad news about DF and the anniversary of DM's death, I was not feeling to perky and to pick up some plants for my birthday next week.:o
2. We did various cheap shops Home bargains, B&M,£1land and The Range for bits and bobs that are cheaper from there than the supermarkets.:p
3. For lunch we stopped in at the caf! in the range and picked up reasonable priced pot of tea and delicious festive? bacon brie and cranberry panini:o.
4. Then Costco where we were shocked how much their meat has gone up so didn’t purchase it where only for stock, but did pick up bits and bobs for DF, and dinner for us.
5. We went to Ikea and haven’t been there for quite a while, again plates bowls and boxes for DF, plants for me, tea lights of course and I picked up DF’s Christmas presents.:)
For today:
1.Clean bedding on.
2. New plants all potted up for inside from Ikea a Christmas Cactus and an eye catching red indoor plant.:)
3. Leftover Costco pizza was snaffled for lunch.:p
4. Various washing loads done and hanging on the landing.:)
5. Tonight’s food will be a pasta dish either carbonara or bake.0 -
Gbf's partner passed away this morning. Omg i''m so sad. 5 pleasures
1) it was peaceful and he was with his cp and sister and cp had had time to say goodbye
2) day was stupidly busy so didn't pick up the message, sent at 11:15, till 6:15 so was able to dissolve into floods of tears in the privacy of my own office
3) cleaner came in, asked if I had a cold, told him what had happened and he bought me a bar of chocolate. What a sweetheart
4) I asked him to ask my colleague to come to my office as I needed, in privacy, to tell her why I wasn't up to film night with the students. She was lovely and made me a cup of tea and gave me an custard tart (my fave!)
5) lovely chat with the cleaners then another colleague gave me a lift home
6) mr piano and I fancy fish and chips but not the walk. Have just discovered 'just eat'. Not totally mse but sometimes one just needs comfort food!
7) good wishes and Jenny hugs from my lovely friends on mse so...

I am very sorry to hear your bad news, DD. It must have been an awful shock. I'm glad your colleagues were supportive.
Not the best of days today with people being stroppy, rude etc. I wonder what would happen if I ever behaved like that back to them?! One colleague had a go at me about all the "free hours" I have, every time the pupil I work with is away. Well no, obviously I get sent somewhere else! I don't just sit around... It's like one big competition of people saying how busy they are. Meetings have 20 minutes at the beginning of everyone telling everyone else what they are doing and how they are suffering- why not get on with the meeting, that'd save you 20 minutes straight away!
Anyway, pleasures for today (Thursday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Work is over for another day. Just 10 minutes free in the whole day (look how busy I am, everyone!!!) but that means more pay.
3) Took sons to the barbers and they look smart now.
4) Tea in Sainsburys. Saw one of smaller son's teaching assistants so had to sidle past her and only give her the tiniest of waves, to save his blushes.
5) Fired off another grumpy email. Smaller son went to ask a teacher for help (there are a lot of disagreements over football at breaktimes). He had selective mutism for years and it still amazes me that he approaches and talks to adults now. The teacher said "Sort it out yourself, don't be a wuss". Charming. Luckily no email or phone call from bigger son's school, despite his showing off and jumping off a first floor balcony. (Just short of 3 metres). Some nice detentions for him but no broken ankles.
6) Enjoyed watching I'm a Celebrity. I hope Danny Baker's arrival doesn't spoil it, he seems very full of himself.0 -
DD, I'm so sorry.
Glad you have Mr Piano there with you.

Early evening here, has been a much more pleasant day weather wise. It's now a more bearable 18o . Nice to be out in the garden at 7am and watering plants after a very warm yesterday and overnight.
Nice chat with friend from home
Had a visit from palliative care team social worker , she was lovely. Had a good chat.
Then it was time for my palliative care team massage! Last one and straight into it....no chit chat just relax!
Then nice dog walk up to post office to post a parcel, nice chat with post office ladies.
Having take away curry for dinner. Just waiting on it being delivered.
DD hugs from me. I too am glad you have Mr Piano! Cancer is just utter pants!
Have a good day0 -
5 In time to get the cat cage out and plaice Raffles inside. Yes it is his annual visit to the VET. Usual Rules. BoP will not be harmed.
4 Just done the shop for the snorkers and best back. You know what it is tomorrow. And sticky chicken is back. Proper foods.
3 Just had lunch of ham and cheese sandwich, made with real butter. Proper food again, freshly made, not the stored four day old over priced carp. And if you are unsure about proper foods, BoPsie Just had her biannual bum probes yesterday, clear as a new whistle. BoP is still on the five year list! Jaffa cakes are now being consumed.
2 Nite the owls are on the town, with the big train to Warster booked for the journey home! Cans of paint sourced, free tickets for the flicks, back row comfy seats will be tested. More tomorrow afternoon.
WARNING. MINOR CELEBS WILL AGAIN BE EXTRACTING THEIR DEMANDS
The BBC has an income equivalent to the 150th worlds richest nation by GDP. This is the same as Barbados. The BBC prosecutes around 210,000 people, mostly females at homes each year, criminalising them. This is more than the adult population of Barbados.
BoP has just received part of his annual order from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. My money goes there, not lining the hosts pocket. Just remember, the checkout girl on £10.000 a year and poor hours, and the host being paid expenses of that, wanting her to part with her money.0 -
Frith and DD so sorry to hear your sad news about your friends x
1. day off work even if not very productive ... am taking things easy
2. did manage to get a load of washing on the line when the sun broke through the clouds this afternoon. Just about to bring it in before it gets totally dark and may need to finish off on airers

4. also picked up 2 chocolate lindt teddies for DS & GF "pot of gold" - on offer at 2 for 65p
5. managed to resist the caf! and had a lovely hot chocolate when I got home
6. just adding car has passed its MOT with no work needed and although the person from the garage who rang me yesterday said it would cost £39.99 I have now been told I don't have to pay anything as its included in the monthly cost of my service plan yay !0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

So sorry for your loss DD - rather shocking speed
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Lovely soak in the bath watching "My mother and other strangers"
2. Made chilli in the morning so it only had to be reheated later. we had it with avocado and kimchi
3. Watched DIY SOSand Grand Designs as DS and OH were both out (not together, DS went to a gig and OH went to choir practice)
4. had yummy curried chicken and veg soup for lunch
5. Made more sense of my chapter.
and today
1. picked up my order from Wh!te stuff, lovely spinach green trousers in the sale :rotfl::eek:
2. Nice walk to station, despite my dicky toe. I think it's on the mend, but is sure taking its time.
3. Good train ride to ICT. Got lots done on the train. And the roof is still on the house despite yesterday's tornado passing nearby
4. Remote taught DS to use the washing machine. If he won't put stuff in the basket, it doesn't get washed. Now he has had to panic wash his jeans....:rotfl:
5. OH is on his way so i am over the road in a minute to get something for tea (SM is opposite) and open that wine
Have a lovely evening peepsI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
a quiet day 'working at home'.
1) in order to work at home had to go in to collect my poorly mac. mr mac wasn't able to totally fix it but it has held out today so fingers crossed it lasts
2) mum came by and dropped me and mr piano off in town, mr piano to catch a train to collect his mended car, and me to meet dd1 for lunch. gbf is her favourite godfather (indeed her only godfather). we had a lovely lunch
3) then just as i was about to head home mr piano phoned to say car mended and did i want a lift home
4) walked up to nurse appointment for hep A (there is a shortage and she'll let me know next wednesday if i instead need to go private), typhoid (delayed till they know about the hep A as may be a combined hep A and typhoid) and malaria tablets.
5) walked up via a small estate with mid-thigh high lights along the paths. Reminded me of the IKEA ad. Very pretty
6) on way back called in on friend who gbf had asked me to tell. She had already heard so that was good. We had a sob.
7) mr piano gave me a lift home and we have just had a bowl of scrummy butternut squash soup. there are cream buns for later :P
8) gbf has asked if mr piano will play at the funeral which of course he will. i trust it won't be the whole ring cycle lol.
9) was a bit concerned talk on monday would look awfully similar to talk last monday and 2 of the audience will be the same, despite abstracts being different. As they're based on the same 3-year study a few slides will be the same, but am pleased with today's writing of talk that it will be sufficiently different and stimulating.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
