Worth a shot I think.
5 None of the carp Aunt Bassie here. Proper rosemery enfesed roasters. Proper food. Is joining the buzzard in the oven.
Carving knife is being sharpened. And it was del. Nom Nom Nom.
4 Due to the tyres on BoPsie's treader being no use, today BoP has replaced all four of them so BoP is back on the road. Watch it.
3 Now due to the time taken to do the tyres, and roast the buzzard, with proper pan gravy, BoP has hjad no time at all to even consider steaming today, so he has cheated. we8rs white chocolate cake. Tum seriously is being rubbed. It will not last long now.
2 Night BoP is out for a while. More later. Oh, BoP who starts shortly is beaten to it as BoPsie gets a new job first!
Too little!0 -
1. Bacon, brie and cranberry and in a seeded warm roll, delicious.:o
2. Did some sitting down in the office sorting and sifting and shredding paperwork.
3. A sneaky pleasure from yesterday, the post bought the Kew seeds, and a letter from the mortgage co, saying we have reviewed your account and we wrongly made charges to your account back in 2010, please call us so we can arrange to repay them.
4. I had a few memories jogged about my DM, from making our own Christmas cake for the first time, emotional but not in a bad way, I find it odd that they are all in there gradually coming back over time.
5. Made a shepherd’s pie from scratch.
6. I’ve decided while I am ready for the interview tomorrow, I smell a rat, so will be making calls first thing in the morning to check.0 -
Lots of yummy autumn food posts so 8'll start with my
1) yummy leek and potato soup for lunch
2) managed to get washing dry between rain showers
3) and rake the leaves - lovely autumn work
4) then friend's farewell tea - she ordered in Chinese as she's mid move to Edinburgh
5) and we played 2 rounds of cluedo. Had forgotten how much fun it is with 6 players. Gbf also brought careers so we're doing that next games night. Years since I've played careers. Anyone remember scoop?MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

PM2DD BoP is no too happy. Ex of the parish, traitor Hirst has left the town. Good news is that the best chip and fish restaurant in the UK, Steels Corner House is offering 50% off next Monday in celebration!
BoP will not comment further except the favourite, Nigel Adkins, did himself no favours by managing at the rusting bus shelter in Scunthorpe
BoP will continue to sulk all night0 -
Good morning from very early Tuesday. It's a hospital day so up and abiut early to get ready to head into city and see what our lovely but honest oncologist has to say to us today. ( deep breath!)
We actually had sunshine yesterday , not hot but pleasant enough to be mooching around the back garden in. Sweeping up after all the wind from the weekend blew down twigs and branches .
My Sunday was a very quiet and lazy one. OH was out all day and DD1 was at work and DD2 went to city for lunch with friend and DS was out cycling so it was just the dog and I who curled up in the sofa , listened to the rain and watched a schmaltzy movie.
Dinner was a help yourself to whatever you can find though there's not much and I can't be bothered! Did make OH a cheese omelette though when he came in .
Monday , I shopped so the fridge is filled again and a proper dinner was cooked!
Created my little Halloween display in back porch. Lots of lovely flowers from my front garden. 3 pumpkins , some candles , lots of Halloween ribbon. Nothing scary, absolutely nothing evil but just a tradition I have always followed. It's a very big thing in my home town and always has been . We always celebrated Halloween on the last Friday of the month ( lots of theories but I think the main one is traditionally the man of the house would be paid on a Friday and there would be money to buy some sweets and treats. If they waited until the actual 31st there might not be money left.) we always had a Halloween party at school, we would have carved turnips which were a whole lot harder to do than a pumpkin! We would have tablet ( Scottish sweet like fudge but not fudgy!) , we would dook for apples and we would try and eat a dripping with treacle scone without using our hands. We would only ever have went to houses of people we knew, we all went round in a group of neighbouring children, likewise my children , when old enough did the same. I hope when/if they have children they carry on some form of this tradition...or they can just send them to their granny!
When we moved to Australia 6 years ago , there was hardly any Halloween stuff available in shops but we've seen it become more popular last 3 years or so. Kids go out dressed up but it's daylight and sunny and when it's 29o its not the same! ( in saying that I don't think we will reach those temps this week!) I will make tablet but need to do it early morning when it's still cool as it just doesn't work in the heat. The first year we moved here and we'd only been here about 8 days and staying in a holiday home. I was determined we would still 'do ' Halloween. I wouldn't pay the price for a full pumpkin so bought a piece and made a face out of that corner! My icing for cupcakes was just a disaster as it was just too hot. We ended up going to the beach after OH finished work and made pumpkins in the sand!
We called peanuts in their shells monkey nuts and I don't know if that's a very regional thing. But as a child we would all get a handful of monkey nuts , an apple or satsuma and some sweets and often a piece of tablet wrapped up in grease proof paper. No one we knew had nut allergies so we didn't have to worry about that. We all sang or recited a poem or told a joke to get our treats. So for me Halloween is a time of tradition, of good memories, a bit of light before a long dark winter ( or now a bit of oddness in a long hot summer! ), a time of friendship and neighbourliness. I will look forward to seeing photos of friends kids from Friday night on my Saturday morning .
Watched Poldark ( noooo Ross! ) and the new Tutankhamen .
Had to pick up, drop off, pick up DD2 . She started her new job at supermarket but had after school stuff too. Bit of a clash of where she should be.
Right, I'd really better get on wth the here and now instead of reminiscing! Porridge to make and a dog to walk!0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
BoP - I haven't been to Steels for years. Used to be my father's favourite stomping ground when we went to Cleethorpes, now he's gone posh and likes the Kingsway Hotel! My brother took some Australian friends to Steels a few years ago though for traditional British fish & chips!
PK - how did the interview go?
DH managed to do some damage to his foot and has been making a big song and dance about it. Well, a painful dance. Seems to be slightly better today, but something we need to keep an eye on.
Pleasures for the last couple of days:
1) Rugby yesterday. Met up with a friend and sat next to her as her daughter, who has a season ticket too, was away. Oooh, she's got a good view from her seat. One of the coaches gave me a peck on the cheek as a thank you for supporting. I nearly passed out, but came round quickly enough to text DH and my friend who is a fellow supporter of said coach!
2) Went shopping in Milton Keynes with a friend. Went via the Cath Kidston factory shop for some presents...
3) Payday! Though they have changed my tax code (more favourably) AND I've only paid £3 in tax this month. Popping the extra in a separate pot, though I think it's right, *just* in case of need. Actually, I'm going to try to survive without it and see whether I can save it...
4) Loads of veg in the fridge, being used up in meals but all ready to be turned into soup at some point this week...
5) Cold Feet. Last one tonight and it's been brilliant. Better go and watch it!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

Pleasures for yesterday
1. had a lie in whilst DS got up at 4am for early shift
2. managed a short walk to local shop. A grey day with a bit of a chill in the air, but dry. Lovely to get out in the fresh air. Got some soup on special offer and cheese half price
3. treated myself to some chocolate (also on offer) - I know I shouldn't but it aids recovery
4. caught up on some more recorded tv
5. afternoon snooze followed by some "cooking" - I made a pasta bake by browning off some mince beef and onions added courgette, red pepper, a sprinkling of dried herbs and garlic granules chucked some pasta and a couple tins of tomato soup and left to cook, then covered with a cheats cheese sauce made by melting cheese in double cream thinned with a little milk and then browned off in the oven. I spread it out over 3 small dishes rather that one whopping dish so I could lift them out of the oven easier - and there was enough leftover for 3 freezer meals. Glad I felt well enough to make something easy.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

1. First pleasure. Soooo happy to be back from our long stay with my sister. Feel we more than earned our keep knocking walls down, plastering, tiling, chopping wood and generally helping out. The Vendee is lovely mhagster but the mosquitos (we thought we'd miss them but not so) are NOT lovely although I think I was the best meal they'd had in ages.
2. My own bed.
3. My own pillows.
4. My own poky, cluttered little house.
5. Best of all pleasures - my own ginger ninja curled up next to me on the sofa. He has lost a lot of weight though, and has fretted. He is NEVER staying with that pet sitter again. I'm am not at all happy that she didn't tell us he wasn't eating as she had emails andcontact numbers and my son would have picked him up if he'd known. Ah well. It's a real pleasure to be home again.0
