  • I agree with the pj comments - I always feel sort of "powerless" when I'm in hospital almost like a child (emasculated ?) if I try to question anything about my treatment in my pjs !

    1. Have been sleepy and feeling unwell, neck has swollen since suture removal. The pleasure is that I managed to get through to Dr surgery on phone straight away at 8am. This is highly unusual as it has taken me till 11am after constant re-dialling to get through in the mornings on previous occasions.

The receptionist I spoke with was actually really helpful (some are awful) - she called me back within 10 minutes after speaking with nurse with an appointment and I waited less than 5 minutes before I was called in.

    - Saw nurse and Dr - more antibiotics and painkillers and meds for temperature. Thankful for the NHS and free prescriptions and (due to careful budgeting and this site) being able to afford a taxi to surgery and back.

    2. Whilst I waited for meds from the chemist (attached to Dr surgery) I popped next door to Mr T express and stocked up on some food items and milk, most on offer. Thankful it was so close as I couldn't have managed otherwise. Collected meds and then a taxi home.
    3. free wildflower seeds arrived from Kew courtesy of :money:
    4. made a stew in my slow cooker with meat bought in mr T and veg bought by DP's last week - Just chucked it all in with stock and left it to cook itself - so at least I am eating, which pleases my mother whom I spoke to on phone and is a firm believer in feeding the sick ;)

    5. Have slept most of the day, probably as a result of all the meds, but am actually feeling a bit better. :)

Skint I hope you start to feel better soon. If things don't improve within a couple of days get back in touch with GP.

Well I've been and done work and one more shift to do next week and then off for 3 but might consider leaving. Maybe! See how I feel! Today was okay enough, kept busy and we had a new girl start who was very nice. Got my laundry money....had to ask for it as it hadn't been left for me.
I made banana and caramel muffins and some rather nice savoury muffins. Did not have time to make sausage rolls as requested. Too busy cooking paying customers their breakfast, let manager know I hadn't made them and I don't think she was happy. Sorry love but if you provide me with enough staff at start of shift before we get busy I'd have had time! If you leave me on my own to try and do front of house and kitchen then I don't have time. ...mini rant over and one more shift to do! Breathe!

OH came in in train and then we drove off in my little car ...to a nice cafe with nice staff who know our drinks order before we'd even ordered it....just as well that's what we were having! I also had an apple and pistachio cake with marscapone topping. OH had their pancakes with strawberries ( macerated, coulis-ed, dehydrated dust) white chocolate mouse and blueberries.

It is foul weather. Lashing with rain and blowing a gale. Very un spring like. Plus side is garden has had an exceptional watering!
We are in for the night so I'm going to stick my jammies on!

Last night we had a pasta made with lots of bits that were left in the fridge and very nice it was too.

Didn't do too much yesterday , got eyebrows waxed, ouch. Beautician who was less orange than usual was less judgemental than usual....maybe it goes up and down with her fake tan level!

Treated myself to a bouquet of flowers from florists ( was feeling rich as tax rebate had been paid into bank , thank you very much Mr Tax Man) They are white gerberas and orange roses.

Then I wandered over to library ( Having just had a call from DD2 saying she'd cut her foot in shower....told her to stick a dressing on ut and I'd be home shortly ...then continued to library . Bad mother of the year award :)
Read a magazine ( well looked at pictures as I didn't have my specs!)

Right. Better get on . Have a good weekend :)

Well, awake since 4...to now read your continuing fwd and back steps, skint.
The forward ones are the ones to work with. Who's talking, &?
It seems & is to join you.
(Also see Thanks have disappeared again.)

Vague memory of &maman+neuralgia arose, when sth started Tues pm, rtn'd in big hits Wed and worse again in spasms during Spits Thurs. Bad enough to find left cheek covered in pain tears. It's hideous.

So, reluctant but also remembering biopsy stitches still in, to surgery/dentist, where both amazingly made space 2hrs hence, so-

    1. That was no.1

    2. Spitalfields decent. 2 v.early sales covered the day - it's such a lift when this happens. Lovely people too, Oz ladies, both dealers. 1 Melbourne, 1 Sydney - and they didn't know each other , but do now:-)

    3. During setting up, another voice - "Oh, so this is where you come....wondered if it was."
Only B, porter at &'s NZ home town auction!!! Goodness me! Last conversation, June, was about the ex-mining town train he'd bought. Was having to work out best quotes on getting it back to his property in the backblocks. Great talks. He'd heard about beloved Uncle. Firm had sent x as rep. there for them. Pics taken, already em'd to firm and....commented on:-)

    4. In the 2hr gap to those appts, unloaded at storage, reached town of horse, did happy banking, paid ahead for nz pic reglaze, rtn'd collapsed Addis airer, bought early July only, for free Minky replacement@Mr T

    5. ....and made it back just in time, between dentist and Dr. Wisdom tooth apparently. Looks as though being knocked out at Twickenham last year did extra. Very lively after xray when she had to prod under gum. Split below. Not nice. Antibiotics, ibuprofen now and extract in fortnight. Addenbrookes. NO, pleads &. Have to work. Spitalfields. Other biz for young person. Court etc. So, provided & is 'good', can cope, will be done by dentist. Pleasure if it can stop this. When it comes, it's deep dark dkw sensation, between eye socket, jaw and ear.
    #
Still only 1st world stuff &, ignore it.
    I'm trying.
Best weekends and rugby happiest(& has ABs v. Oz@ the Alma, then>Club, match+all the NZ tea towels, to distract her. And heard Toulon stay ahead of Sale on t'wireless last night. Très bien) or whatever else macboatfaces
Off to pop another couple of pills.
This from phone, if it works. Toodlepip.

    * Plumber (second one) says he can run a gas line over one side of part of my roof and bring a new gas line down through the ceiling. I'm over the moon as I hate cooking on my electric cooktop...32 yrs of hating is enough! My builder/tiler/painter/plasterer guy took out the cooktop and the cabinet underneath as I'm getting a slide-in full gas range. :j:j:j

    * Plumber also said moving the water heater would be easy and he will start working on Monday. My vision of having a pantry will become a reality. :j:j:j

    * Looking at different brands of ranges is both exhilarating and terrifying. I will think I have found the right one and then read reviews which change my mind. Why do people love their Aga stoves? They are practically unheard of here. The coveted elite brands are Viking and Wolf. (Out of my price range these are)

    * Quoye got her flu shot. Cried 30 sec and then enjoyed her surprise strawberry lollipop.

    * DD2's elective surgery went well and she goes home tomorrow. I'm tired.

    * Second jigsaw puzzle almost completed. DS2 is now sounding like he's an expert. :D

Note: BoP's duvet will be in extra overtime.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Way to go, def. Power outages matter not. Your reading matter can change to the Aga Saga i.e anything by Joanna Trollope.

Hugs to all those that need them.
    Get well & and skint.

    1. Went to the church with DH for a very interesting talk it was a fundraiser for a new roof. I learnt a couple of things. It was warm too.

    2. Met a few people who I hadn't seen in a while. Good to catch up and have a laugh and was introduced to some people.

    3. Continued to declutter. I'm sorting out cupboards and only keeping what's needed.

    4. Cleaned and polished all the shoes including DS2.

    5. Planted more bulbs!!! Still have more to do but the garden should look lovely in the spring.

    6. Cooked lasagne for tea and some leftover. Also managed a couple of single portion ones for the freezer. Lentils really do make the mince stretch.

    7. Looking after cats for people and being paid. My neighbour who does it as a business is away so asked if I could. The money will be useful at the moment.
  • Cooking on gas, the future is here!

Look, my wallet had plastic money in it. Two fivers! Oh boy! Morning all!

Testing of duvet is being carried out! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Another crazy week with a third 'planned', but in Birmingham. So this weekend will be spent trying to short-term-future-proof the house as incoming phone calls are apparently met with extreme disapproval. (Training course.)
Skint and & and Frith and all suffering - Do What You Can to recover, supported by loving wishes of benevolent duvets, prompt NHS and all that helps!
Mila! Whooppee cooking on gas - "the beauty of gas" bizarrely a Salman Rushdie advertising line!
villlagelife - *paid* to look after cats - bliss!
mhagster - All children need to know basic first aid & a Good Mother reinforces this skill by allowing them the practice without racing in to do it for them. Extra flowers in bouquet are knowledgeable competent offspring.

    Pleasures recently
Glorious Moon! Not just this month but the next two seemingly. Seize quality moments under stars with multiple layers & those you love?

Scouting! Introduction for instructors - boils down to missiles & ropes & once you ticket on ropes you can assist then be assessed then lead top related activities. From low ropes to Jacobs ladder to Leap of faith. Ulp. Happily my old caving helmet is still sound & still fits so my own safety headgear is sorted. Did another hour zip lining - catching Cubs. They're awful short & light to unhook when you're short like me! Still, main trainer amused & pleased, as well as happy Cubs. Next training session "bring a child". Learning to knot someone else's child a vital scouting skill!

    You just can't get the under gardeners - son refused to help look for nasturtium seed pods as it was raining. [Found them anyway & planning to harvest & dry them.] {at least two packetfuls drying on radiator! Bring on the orange joy next year!}

Lidl for groceries first saved an easy fiver on the shop. *Why* have we taken so long for this courgette to drop?!

Son has a Star Wars t shirt (reduced on supermarket sale rack), & elder brother grouched "it's the sort of geek shirt the hot girl wears as she dries her hair next morning". Youngest beaming happily at this denunciation, then sighted wearing garment & looking dashed handsome.

Huge divide at work between those delighted to be handy to the Olympians parade & those fleeing the county early. I will continue my policy of admiring these folk by TV as I have a hefty commute, but appreciate the opportunity. [Heh - lemming rush already in motion at 2.55 when est KO at 4.30!]

Fitness tracker making positive noises - always helps with Mondays!

    Trying to set up a new mobile. I do not speak phones, much. [Eventual success, as in communications, now to get old number, credit yadda ported.] {Yes!}

Spectacle of umbrella jammed in bin at an angle ferociously expressive of 'proven insufficient'.

Lidl parsnips - menfolk aggrieved I appeared to appropriate the lot so I blew another pound & stray coppers & worth every copper to see the happy smiles.

I have seen the vivid pink face paint bright against son's brown hair, and the fairy wings (sadly in hand) and the petal pink T shirt & admired the total raised (over £500 on the day & 2 more schools to collect) - now all I want are the photos...

Crisp sky banded in blue & pink - easy on the eye. Contrasts with high visibility yellow & fluoro-pink traffic barriers in a way that has me grinning.

Lovely vintage bollards. shining in new black paint, reflecting light along their graceful lines.

Car park chap asking if this weather is cold - well, not really, not yet, still above zero, no Autumn frost. Also motorists just damp not wet or frozen with consequent errors, slides & unpreparedness for snow ice & slush. Met with Deeply Uncertain look from under beanie, but he has a grip on layering already.

Mind boggling gently at the concept of Performance Underwear. Yet it is a thing & can be bought at Costco.

Oh dear - husband teasing son, son trying to drink, with resulting spraying & laughter...

Happily baffled by lens & prism with respect to hospital garb/language, but (thanks to QI!) am now at decreasing risk of Chronic Biscuit Toxicity. Utterly charmed at Alan's mutter "you're in the Right Chair" as Sandi takes the helm.

Kew wildlife seeds arriving here & at other relatives - ongoing emails of Christmas is starting early!

Remembering toothache as a massive unpleasure & honestly, if offered Add slot, would be in like Flynn for the relief! However, other responsibilities understood. All strength to your elbow!

Great big hugs, tender blessings, health, strength, courage to all in need thereof and all joy with Autumn in harvesting, seed saving, potting, jamming, canning, and generally stocking storecupboards as I beam at tinfoil trays drying on switched off radiator.
  • Oh No. BoP dips off DfV report.

5 New plastic ones have been kept in the wallet of BoP. Wobbleades were consumed last evening, BoPsie had her rags of glad on. Tikka of Chickens was wolfed down. Tum was rubbed. Red paint was not wasted. Big train inn! Late train was well late, but lucky we had a lift home!

4 Snorker fest with best back, pan griddled mushrooms. Star cut sage and peppered toms. Tin toms and poached egg on hot buttered marmite toast. Washed down with tea. Blackcurrant jam on toast was also eaten! Tum was rubbed vigorously.

3 Just sat watching the lead up to the football. PM2DD See PH has told them at Shrewsbury they are a small club heading south! Can listen live today, though via a biased station. Last time they covered the mariners, they were well quietened.

2 Just readying up with another cup of proper loose leaf tea and proper milk, not the foam available in packets. And a decent tart as well, with jam on it!

Years ago we used to go and put our face through the fat man and lady on the beach fun and be happy
Today we poke our had through a spiders web as a witch and barber, and are nasty
    Turn EVIL around L I V E

If you dress up as a butcher and are nasty for some part in a money extraction exercise. You are one step away from being evil in real life. No excuse for the commercialism enthused nastiness of All Saints Eve.

And no I am not a blaggard bloody religious nerd either , I am an atheist! I lost my faith.
  • BOP I so agree with you in that those who perpetrate evil become evil but I don't hate Halloween, just the commercialism that has turned it into an event of 'must haves' and competition. I always 'DO' Halloween, we grow pumpkins and I carve one to go in the window, we put a 'sheet ghostie' in the front apple tree, we put tealights in jamjars all up the drive and hang lanterns and solar lights in all the available shrubbery and I bake cakes of suitable theme every year to give away to those 'trick or treaters' who come calling. We're not a large village and there is so very little for our young people to do and have fun with here so I love to give them an evenings entertainment once a year. It starts at 4.30ish when the teeny tinies come with their parents (also dressed up in most cases) and goes on to about 7.30 when the older ones come vastly different but still enjoying the childish fun element. I've never had any unpleasantness and have only had 'thank yous' and again over the next few days if I see any of them in 'real life'. I am a little apprehensive this year over the 'clown' phenomenon but I will do the baking, this year it will be bat shaped biscuits with black icing and red eyes and I will have as much fun as any of the kids do because I sit in the study with all the lights out and see them coming up the drive and can get to the door to open it just before they ring the bell.....scares the living daylights out of them for a few seconds, best was when He Who Knows set up a black toy bat on a piece of fishing line to balance on the top of the just open door so that when it was fully opened the bat 'flew' out towards the kids outside, now that was 'real' fun!!!

    1) Offer of another doggy friend to walk occasionally.

    2) Beautiful day of blue sky and sunshine and a lovely footpath walk with Cookie.

    3) Rugby on the TV, 3 games back to back.

    4) Home made soup for lunch.

    5) A good natter on the phone with DD1 who is off to the rugby this afternoon using her season ticket we got her for her birthday.
