  • Conglomerate of weekend

    1) Great fun with Zebra on Friday and lunch at Ikea (his favourite venue) and DD2 home reasonably early so we could catch up and chat.

    2) Nice weekend with DD1, we lost the rugby but it's always nice to be at the game.

    3) Very rare Indian takeaway meal for supper on Friday, total deliciousness and such a treat.

    4) The amazing on the day Medical Drop In centre who saw He Who Knows within 25 minutes of his phone call this morning and gave him antibiotics for the UTI which had been causing him great problems for 24 hours (he didn't tell us!!!).

    5) Home, my things, his things and a cuppa!!! can't beat it!
  • First time posting on this thread but I had such a lovely day yesterday, I wanted to record my simple pleasures.

1 - breakfast for two in the local cafe for the grand sum of £5.30. We refused tea or coffee as we'd just had one indoors. I felt like a skinflint at first, then felt like we'd won a mini battle against sales pressure.

2 - an impromptu trip to Sandwich Bay for the first time.

3 - a dairy free lemon sorbet cornet from the ice cream parlour.

4 - watching my dogs meeting the sea for the first time. One was so super happy running around in it, it will make my heart melt whenever I think of it, until my dying days. :smileyhea

5 - getting home and eating the first meal from my batch cooking on Saturday. £3.13 worth of ingredients made 13 meals (excluding side veg) so my dinner cost 24p plus some broccoli.

A day that makes me smile :)

Skint - I'm OK, thanks, smaller son being demanding seemingly 24 hours a day so can't sit at the laptop or get on with anything. :-/

Here are my pleasures randomly for the weekend:

    1) 2 not so early starts.

    2) Flying Scotsman! We stood in some woodland to watch it steam by on Saturday then caught it later at the big station. Watched it manoeuvre, take on water etc. Watched it again on Sunday!

    3) Bigger son went climbing all day in the Wye Valley on Saturday with my brother in law.

    4) Some homework done.

    5) Chickens well. Barbara is mid moult so still has her fluffy "trousers" on.

    6) Went out for dinner at our 2nd nearest pub on Saturday night with parents, brother and 2nd mum and dad. And smaller son (bigger son was still climbing). Its a funny old place, "renovated" or cobbled together in the 1960s so has massive ships timbers, strange carved bits stuck here and there, stained glass and light up toilet signs that look retro but have just been there for 50 years! I will try and find a link to it.

Smaller son, after obsessing for 7 hours about some pasta, (thanks, Sainsburys, for changing the packaging...) said, "It's so nice to get out and have a good chat with people" !!!

Here is the only photo on the whole of the internet of the pub:

    (It's in Shrops, not Worcs!)
  • My pleasures for last couple of days

    1. Fresh coffee each morning.
    2. Feeling much better as days go past.
    3. Chatting to Dd & ds2 and dgs's
    4. Booked night out for NYE.
    5. More free books on Kindle.
  • Note to BoP: may need to cut down on amount you paint so you don't have to walk home from the third stop. (So funny that it happened and I giggle every time I think about it)

Reviving thoughts to all who are or have been struggling....including Barbara.
Firth, your little man is a hoot! The pub is exactly how I image an English pub to be>>> I read a lot of English detective stories>>>most discriptions would look something like the link. Makes me oddly happy. :D
 Hello new people >>>from the land of two people who should neither one be running for president. I watched the debate. :(:exclamati:embarasse:spam::wall:

    * OH ate leftovers and actually suggested it this morning. Yippee!!!! :j (a leftover man he is not)

    * Sequoia (age 2 ) announced while picking raspberries with her mom 'Quoye not like boys'.
Establishing self and already opinionated. Of course, last week she didn't like holes in her food and that blew over so this may be short lived. ;)

    * Its cooling off in the desert. (There is a need for sunglasses even in the winter). My favorite time of year!

    * Claritin works on my sinus headaches!!!!!!!:j:j:j:j:j:j:j Faithfully taking it since it has helped so much.

    * The mystery plants have finally announced themselves----tomatillos.

    * Medicine cabinet now looks fabulous. All [STRIKE]ancient[/STRIKE] outdated medicine has been disposed of properly.

    * Ottoman almost cleaned off. Big surfaces attract 'stuff'. (at my house anyway)

Thinking of you &. Hope to see you back here soon. You are missed. Glad Mrs. LW is back. BoP very happy to hear your employment news!!!!
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

  • Struggling for pleasures over the past weeks but teeth gritted and now moving forward again.

    1. Lots of back pleasures to read here, always cheered by them.
    2. Small, hairy, ginger ninja following a spider around the floor, nose down, tail wagging, completely engaged. Distracted dog with dog treat, rescued spider and popped it outside. Dog then spent ten minutes quartering the floor to try to find missing prey. :)
    3. Friends came round yesterday to spin (wool, not exercise) and I carded for them and restarted a very old, unfinished needlepoint of a gyrfalcon. Found the missing wools in a huge cupboard clear out last week; thought it had been thrown out years ago!!
    4. Watched 'Victoria' on catchup tv and caught up with the ironing. Loved the dresses.
    5. Reading Pamela Deans 'Tam Lin' and Ruth Goodmans ' How to be a Tudor.' The pound shop throws up a weird mix of books from time to time, always a pleasure to investigate the shelves :)
  • So very glad to have you here again Cappella. I was getting worried. I always love to read the ginger ninja stories!

    hope things getting better bagpuss
so first day back at work started a little later than usual
    1) mr p managed to lock himself out of his bedroom - door handle had come off inside and he forgot to lodge door open. oops. he offered to kick door down. very pleased to say i thought it through, found screwdriver to remove door knob, used tweezers to pull back spindle, held spindle near door and put handle back on spindle to turn. hey presto :D (this is the first time i have had to do such things as was very much xoh's department, so very very pleased with myself!)
    2) annual review was OK. well actually bit of a non-event, but have been set target next year of getting more published papers and taking one day a week for writing. reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmV0gXpXwDU (start at 53 sec). so have put writing in for friday.
    3) lunch was left overs from previous night and very yummy
    4) mr p had spent morning cleaning downstairs :D
    5) then cooked me supper - chicken breasts with chili flakes yum. managed to hold off central heating by donning lovely snuggly dressing gown.

Good evening from land of the damp! We started with rain, we had a bit of brightness then back to torrential rain again. Just have to be grateful the reservoirs will be getting filled for coming months.

Up early ( as usual) MIL has fractured her hip, so spoke to SIL about that . Surgery today. This is when we feel very far away.

DD2 had a medical appointment , saw a very nice specialist. We have to pay to see specialists , get maybe a quarter refunded through Medicare. We have to pay to see GP. We have to pay for scans. I read about the junior doctor situation in UK and that people often quote the Australian system. I disagree. Many people will have to choose between a visit to the doctor or groceries. ( if you are on a very low income you get concession card) . Anyway, I paid up!

Had a snooze alongside the dog! He must have climbed up on sofa beside me!

Have made lasagne which is cooking and the mince base for cottage pie for tomorrow .

Oh dear! I may have succumbed to the pressure of Mr Kipling! very tasty though!

Right, I'd better go and get my veggies on. Have a good day and I hope that things improve for everyone. Always onwards and upwards I think....or sometimes just onwards is enough. We have a silly o'clock start tomorrow for hospital.
