Good morning,
1 – Looking forward to swinging past the library to pick up my book(s)
2 – Getting treated to dinner tonight meaning a NSD
3 – Tried a new route to work and probably shaved 2-3 minutes
4 – Speaking of which, need to start planning my route to my new job in September and save the ££££’s. Car or train.
5 – Golly this coffee is going down a treat.
Have a super day everyone.0 -
Evening all, it's 6pm and not quite dark so our days are stretching out, there was a smell of spring in the air today. Sun was shining. Though chilly, snowdrops are up in the garden and my bulbs are peeking through in my pots in back garden.
Had a GP appointment this morning, doctor , who can sometimes be a nippy sweetie was lovely . I was there for a follow up appointment and we chatted about OH and subsequently me! Tissues at the ready. She was just very nice.
Then as I was out that way I went to aldi and did a shop there.
Then went m-early Christmas shopping with DD1. We wanted to get the girls a locket each to put a photo of their dad in, saw one I liked in pandora shop but they only had one, they have went above and beyond and manager drove miles to another store to pick one up for me. I will go out after dinner and pick them up. I didn't even need to give them my sob story! Then just a few other bits and pieces. Not going mad!
Home and made mince pies, ate mince pies , made meringues and then I've just put some gingerbread cupcakes in oven.
Nice dog walk, then mad dog time in front garden. I was filling pots with florist foam and flowers and greenery and candles to decorate the front porch. Haggis loves the front garden as he isn't out in that often ( we use back of house more) and tears around like a mad thing.
Whilst there my slightly crazy next door neighbour ( at back of house side ) came round with a bag of lemons off her tree.
Have made a chicken curry for dinner, just put rice on so shouldn't be too long, quite hungry this evening .
I can't remember if I'd said already ( memory a bit pants at the moment ) we are having a m-early Christmas Eve party on Saturday evening. Australian friends over this time. Have had the go ahead from hospital to have this but have asked that no one comes with any bugs or germs....we don't want them!
Have a great Thursday0 -
When life gives you lemons Mhags make lemonade. or g&t
I'm sure the same goes for slightly crazy next door neighbour. When we were in California we had an orange tree in our garden. I made christingles from our very own oranges!
quick 5 for week so far, cos it's going rate of knots!
1) xoh just phoned to say she has seen a flat that is a strong possibility. Small but has a garage, 6 mins walk from work, 6 month contract then rolling 1 month, available 6th Sept, she has a friend she could stay with first week of job (she starts 1st Sept)
2) Munich hotel had got my booking. Was a bit alarmed cos although said yes to print out of confirmation nothing happened and no email
3) Macbeth in the Botanics was moved to the Rep due to rain. 3 good things there 1) much more comfie 2) we still had our picnic, but at work before we left 3) rep very good at phoning round so we knew before we headed for the botanic garden
4) lovely day hiding self in main campus library - got some serious work done yay
5) trotted off for long lunch break (as meeting student 7 - 8:30pm), saw friend eating on own so joined her, met another friend, ticked off another 7 Oor Wullies on the bucket trail (travelling elvis had 'just left the building but hope to bag him soon)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Well, I was getting bored of my twice reconstructed wisdom tooth... it fell to pieces again at lunchtime! Back to the dentists tomorrow. :-( That's the third appointment I will have had in 3 weeks!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son's 13th birthday!
3) Plenty of cards for son to open.
4) Met parents and brother in a local caf! for breakfast (they were on their way to an agricultural show).
5) Back home to see the hens.
6) Quick game of football.
7) Cleaned the porch out so it is OK for the person who is coming to feed the cats next week.
8) Bowling! Met my sister, brother in law and niece there.
9) Frankie and Benny's after bowling then a walk round the park.
10) In bed already, possibly overloaded with food!0 -
What fantastic service by that store manager, mhags.
Sorry about the tooth, frith
Yesterday OH was off so we took a spur of the moment trip to my favourite National Trust property; in fact one my favourite places, full stop. Had a very enjoyable morning there.
Little dog was so incredibly happy to be with us, and so contentedly tired and snuggly when we got back - his unconditional love is so heart warming, and more than money can buy.
Watched Bowie at the proms last night.
More Chardonnay
Had Pannacotta for dessert - my favourite:)0 -
* Hotlinks on white bread with mustard for dinner...a true Southern white trash delicacy! https://www.google.com/search?q=allsups+hot+links&rlz=1C9BKJA_enUS675US675&oq=allsups+hot&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l3.11642j0j9&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=6dntL7VA07ZjAM%3A
* Store brand peanut butter sale! Better than all the name brands!!
* Gasoline prices still low. Filled up the pickup for our trip to DD2's house to take back her dawgs!! Five weeks is enough. We are also taking her a very nice almost new TV console table that the renter left when he moved. She has had her's since college and it was welled used even back then.
* My man! He's just such a good guy!! So opposite each other, but so perfect together.
* Clean shelves where all the bottled dried beans, rice, cornmeal, spices, loose tea, etc lives. I love to store them this way because they are pretty to look at but I hate to dust it all! Now it's done. :j
*Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Good morning all,
1 - Dinner (paid for by my friend) was bloody delish last night. Our new Thursday ritual.
2 - Had a good nights sleep last night, no alarms going off at 4am.
3 - My mum finished a jigsaw that we were all stuck on. Good on her.
4 - Filled my tires with air yesterday so my MPG will improve and it'll hold me for a good while
5 - 4 days in a row on no spending. Hopefully today too.
Have a super duper day everyone0 -
Milasavesmoney - MrC really loved the enchiladas, will be making them again
Didn't use smoked peppers ( hard to get here) but used our own homegrown green ones.
Yvieblue - take the plunge and join the choir. I had to summon up all my courage to go, and it took time to know people but singing is a real joy - even when my notes aren't quite what they should be:)
Mhagster - early Christmas is such a lovely idea. Thinking of you all.
BP - interview?
Five Pleasures
1. A blue sky!!
2. A cool breeze.
3. Fuchsias, huge pink and purple blossoms in the garden, and the added bonus of their fruit. No one else will will touch it but it's delicious. ( check your variety but most are very edible).
4. My lovely d- in- law who called for coffee and a chat. Hope I'm a good m- in- law but she calls so I think I must be reasonable.
5. Poetry: especially Charles Causley and UA Fanthorpe. Aren't words amazing things?0 -
Does your dentist do a loyalty card Frith, ouch again
Capella, could easily live without tv etc but would pine away without the written word, the ability to visit other worlds and inhabit other lives is a joy.
Some recent pleasures,
Work finished for another week, CV updated and now actively looking.
Over to the yard in the evening, poor owner running round trying to sort the horses out without staff so helped her do the boxes and bring them in. Dark clouds dropped rain all around us but we stayed dry and pleasure seeing all equine pals in and happily tucking into hay.
Anticipation of equestrian events starting at Rio tomorrow.
Up early this morning and out to emporium, YS shelves packed with many goodies and come home laden.
Just now eating late brunch listening to TMS, spray of brioche crumbs as Tuffers asked if balls swing better if cold or warm. Apparently dear old thing was lead astray by said ex WC and sampled Jaeger bombs last night :rotfl:0 -
Welcome Speky :-) Stay around. There's always a welcome on this Thread. Sneaked look at your diary too. Loads more savings poss. but you are doing it your own right way, which is right:-) I'd just say that saving's addictive too and a habit that sticks.
NSDs always feature here. Well done for 4 on the trot, wishing you a fivefer, which Albion would like at Edgbaston today.

Frith - NOT AGAIN tooth time!!!
Happy Birthday for yesterday to no longer smaller son. How did 13thirteenTHIRTEEN happen ???...which you must also wonder. We all do.
Cappella - big yes to UA FanthorpeL-) Less Causley here. Fuschia fruit completely new to me - & does lots of preserves. Research time.
Mila - there's also the Great shepherd's pie/cottage pie name debate. Only shepherds chopped and minced here:-) Perils of skim reading - thought 'HORLICKS on white bread with hot mustard' exceeding peculiar...
http://www.horlicks.co.uk/
mhags - 'made mince pies, ate mince pies' Oh dear, don't see mine anywhere.
More crazy weather hugs from here.
Yvie - another for SINGING and CHOIR. Please do, with no more thinking why NOT to.

1. Finally caught up with framer in town of horse. Perfect work, as usual. left yet another of my oddities. 1924 and 1935 Trinity College of Music grad. scrolls and original old brown paper wrapping. Okay for Spitalfields.
2. Wandering back to emporium car park, saw £79.99 folding wrought-iron work tables rtc £15. Terrific, excellent quality. German, made in Wesel. Ideal outdoors. Brilliant presents. Done.
3. More slugs tracked, snaking silver in all sorts of other places now. It's war. Shook pellets all over front grass last night. A dozen or so dessicating scrumples this a.m.
4. 2 more wineboxes of emporium coffee grounds. On clematis amandii and honeysuckle this time. Made nice coffee mess watering it in, all over path :-)
5. Handed on some rescued re-potted basils. Recipients pleased. Finding more signs of Life in things thought beyond saving.
