Mchags: I hope you are able to enjoy the lead up and dress up to the debutant ball sounds like a fantastic night, all be it faffy but I can't remember the last time I had a chance to dress to the nines. And a man in a kilt to you lucky thing.
1. I was working from home today and having a bit of an off day as I was working until 10.30pm last night, finding it hard to get motivated into doing things today.
2. Lunch was used for a hair apt. My hair has been cut 5 inches off, and it’s still very long, feels great.:T
3. DH and I went out for a few hours this evening, the drive was a bit quiet as we were lost in thoughts and stuck in trafficbut we perked up. I popped into the George at Asda and Mr DH aka my personal shopper found lots all at 75% off 3 pairs of loungy trousers for a total of £12, I pair work for £6 and a second work cardi for £4 great result.:money:
4. We called into C0$tco, treated ourselves to their oven baked pizza, and picked up a few bits and pieces for DH but holding off a little as they have offers we want but they don’t start till next week but still they managed to enlighten off of a few pounds.
5. We voted, and now it’s touch wood and fingers crossed.:j
I was and still am sorely tempted to book tomorrow off work, but we decided against it, I shall plod on as no work is no pay so onwards and upwards.0 -
I hope you had some sleep, MHags and a trip to Tasmania sounds good.
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Work went OK.
3) Posted my Votey Mcvoteface weeks back - in, here.
4) Seemed to be cooking all evening though I only ended up with a lasagne and a rhubarb and apple crumble to show for it!
5) Lots of weeding and hens on the allotment - 3 egg day.
6) Played football with smaller son.
Bit of a weird thing this morning. Bigger son finished his year 10 exams so was allowed to leave school early. He asked his father to pick him up and if he would drive him to the barbers (in the same town as school). His father drove him back HERE (14 mile round trip) so he (son) could get his pocket money to pay for his haircut. :-/
Smaller son is incensed.
Anyway, in the barber, the not usual lady barber asked the ex if he was still married to me (all this in front of bigger son). He said no and the barber said "That's a shame, she's a wonderful woman (???!), you must still love her". What an odd thing to say. Bigger son said he didn't know where to look and I explained that whatever the ex said in reply, it wouldn't look great!
Now in bed with David Dimbleby...0 -
Yes, we were all young once, as I was. I saw the fishing fleet destroyed because of EC regulation 2141/70. We were not on the table. The EC saw that Norway, Ireland, Denmark, and Great Britain were the richest fishing grounds in the world. They saw to it, they had access to all these waters. By 1976, the French had destroyed the herring grounds!
Norway never did join.
I will let you guess which way I voted!0 -
1) Being home again, even after a lovely week away home is a pleasure, my armchair, my kitchen and my books!
2) 3 wonderful days with the Zebra child, two of them just us as mum had to work. We are both worn out but it was such fun.
3) The polytunnel is full of produce, I picked cucumber, courgettes, green beans, lettuce and beetroot and there are cabbages ready and sugar snaps too.
4) The washing is all done and out on the line, lovely drying breeze out there too so it should be dry by evening.
5) The referendum is FINALLY over! we may not all be delighted at the result, almost half the nation will be cross and half the nation will be pleased. At this point ALL of the nation will be a little worried about where we go next BUT no more debates and boredom on the TV and perhaps our own hand on the national tiller to steer where is best for US and not the conglomerate EU?0 -
mhagster - hoping things are rolling steadily, even if you do know folk by name. Tasmania without feathers - wonderful! The Ball & Himself in his Kilt - not a dry eye in the house at that image. Not allowed to descend the staircase? Drat but fair enough & fingers crossed for your weather!
VJSmum - hoping you are having an absolutely wonderful time at Glasto & that you weren't expecting to be dry - Muse Adele & Coldplay one one ticket though! Hoping DD is recovering a bit from Anton's early demise.
BoP - you capture my appalled responses to service station prices brilliantly! Awed at flying cat!
Frith - new school sounds wonderful - much taken with phone box repurposed as home for defib. "Can do nothing with him" - so much better to sit upstairs than go down with a cleaver & make meatb*lls. I have at least one day a year where I could sell mine for parts. "In bed with David Dimbleby" - that sounds like a good start!
Purple kitten - dear lass what a couple of months you are having! So glad work helps distract the mind & very glad appetite returned for dumplings. 5" off & still very long - phew - then a frisk around George & then Costco - you two are an amazing team!
sparrer - did you never once succumb to the temptation of winding up Mrs.Bennet, by deliberately 'gardening' foolishly eg planting stones in neat rows?
villagelife - DS2 broke his bat? Eeep.
LaineyT - you saw the strawberry moon?! I'm a fiend for cherries too - must try to stay late & try Waitrose ys section!
capella - delighted vile neighbours gone & landlord appalled. A spell of peace before he either sells or reconsiders, eh?
Dundeedoll - hurrah nice mug, boo emails occupying sleep time & rousing cheers proud mum - Happy Graduation!
Mrs LW - welcome back home, splendid to have two whole days with Zebra but likewise splendid to get back to own bed, chair, and even cooperative breeze!
OS Pleasures recently
The lady who mops in our office is retiring! It's as shocking as hearing the roof is leaving.
Sorting scout hike kit. Water bottles, waterproofs, hat... [Why do I always forget mosquito repellent?!]
Lovely Scout hike! Wildflower, birdsong, squawks as scouts step in boggy patches - splendid times!
Waitrose coffee machine on megafluff mode - had an espresso with 3" crema! Assistant immediately offered a replacement but it was delicious.
Stood under trees enjoying the green light for a moment before heading into the weekend.
Novel sight - someone has hung tinfoil over the window blinds (I presume in an attempt to keep cool) & like all slightly crumpled foil, it's eye catching!
"Would you be a wonderful mum & come out & supervise a bit of axe throwing?" How could I refuse?! [I didn't supervise though. We shared.]
Son flaunting his new tie, denoting his prefect's status.
"Lad, quick! Spitfire!" - mother-in-law calls & *all* of us boiled out to watch that glorious plane head past us! One expected at the Cosford Air Show, but this was an unexpected treat!
Oh Gods. I have a son who wants to be a wizard at Unseen University, just so he can try Wow-Wow Sauce.
Seen a weekly planner repurposed with coach trips running to: Mordor, Hogwarts, Blackpool, Hotel California (2 nights) etc in model shop window. Giggled internally for several minutes as imagination sent postcards.
The Cosford airshow was just amazing - Typhoon jet making beautiful shapes & noise! Closed with a swoop into the sun - we could hear but not see him! Red Arrows did their "flat" program as clouds low & oh... Heart pounding just Watching! [and remembering!]
Whole family singing to Good Morning Vietnam, the Final Countdown & Like a Bat out of Hell en route home. Along with ribbing son standing for Head Boy with suggestions for campaign music etc. All splendidly silly.
Turns out low cloud or not, I'm sunburned. Ouch. Himself says near consistently cloudy thus a reaction to aero exhaust. I snaffled some of son's cream for after skin graft & it helped.
Discussing soup with youngest "start with a lump of dead animal" "[brother's name], yes?" - aargh!
Groundsel, nettles, blackberries, rose bay willowherb, sweet William, cleavers, thistles, wild oats, docks, daisies, buttercups all thriving on the walk from the carpark this morning. Our longest day watered them pretty thoroughly.
Blind colleague not in "she overslept & missed her taxi" - her absolute honesty gave us all a chuckle, reassurance & returning best wishes!
Son murmured the phrase "sweet nothings" in my ear, to see what effect it would have. He's read of it being done but wasn't sure what was supposed to happen. Gurgles of laughter from me do not appear to be quite what he expected.
"I died of cringe half way through" - little brother had to listen to elder brother's campaign speech for Head Boy.
Exchanged waves & grins with the tailor again - either my work pattern has settled a bit or his has but it's good to see him.
Game of Thrones - dear me, but the final (I think) revenge of the abused wife is thorough. Very housewifely, using what is available.
Tried my first Medjool date - big, juicy, delicious! Deglet nour lovely but lesser in flavour & thicker with syrup. I'm not Muslim, just a snaffler of opportunities - so when dates & nuts & rice & nice cooking oil are all piled high on promotion, I stock up!
It is a certain sort of unwise to leave me on a grassy corner as a marshal for orienteering scouts - I came back down with a 6 yard braid of grass and clover and buttercups & the scouts gawked then posed then skipped with it! It made Facebook a happier place to be for several minutes.
You know things have gone a bit sideways when the homeless guy looks at you & reassures you things could be worse.
I am charmed by a poster advertising an upcoming walk where one selling point is a bifurcating double railway viaduct!
Great big hugs to all who need them, ill well worried - hugs do not interact badly with any other treatments (usually!) and may we find & share still more pleasures!0 -
Sorry your news is not good mhagster. Thinking of you and your family.
Hugs to all who need them, not read back on the thread, only a post or two. Not been in a great place myself this week. Struggling with my own feelings now DH's mental health is slightly better, although still a long way off from being good, and my Dad's physical health is stable, no crisis this week - phew! So, here goes... I WILL find some positives!
1) Children are fit and well and no tears/anxiety attacks this week.
2) Dad is pain free
3) DH and I had a nice lunch out - although this morning I was cross with him and this afternoon angry and upset with him...but at least lunch was good!
4) I have had a day off work
5) I have a roof over my head, clothes to wear and food to eat. So many don't have that.
Hoping tomorrow is a better day for me and anyone else who is having a bad time of it xx0 -
Morning from really still middle of night. But I've slept a few hours and probably won't get much more sleeping done.
Had a nice enough Friday
Caught up on my UK soaps ( sad but true and all messed about with because of football)
Went into next town with DD1. Parked at supermarket , walked down to a new cafe, which looks fabulous and will be such an asset to town ( cafe culture very big out here) had a lovely chat with the owner and asked if I could take photos of the cakes , they all looked fabulous. Then we went into mall and I got my pair of tights and a RTC fleece jacket. Back up to supermarket and got just enough groceries to do weekend.
Home and grabbed a dog and we had the wettest and muddiest walk ever. But he enjoyed it....poor DD1's feet were soaked through so she squelched home.
Caught up on the UK news as it was all emerging and straight away regretted paying my UK mortgage in the morning....would have saved $70 if I'd waited a few hours.
Made a rather yummy cottage pie for tea. Weekend food will be use up what's in the fridge before we go on holiday type fair....I'm thinking soup!
Enjoying a laugh with the kids.
On annoying matters of bloody health insurance. 4 weeks ago DD1 had emergency surgery , advised to go to private hospital ( which to be fair we were seen with the utmost promptness which wouldn't have happened in local hospital) , you may remember I had to pay over $2000 up front as insurers wouldn't pay out at that point. So, paid and then we claimed money back....only it seems hospital have also claimed that fee from insurer ( even though that fee was paid by me) and they got their claim in before we did and money has been allocated to them. So now trying to get this all sorted out , have to pay a $250 excess so it's now $1760 we are due. Then got a bill in from surgeon ( which having had an invoice from insurers stating that he'd been paid as had anaesthetist ) shows that Yep he'd been paid, but only as much as they pay....had to write a cheque for $600 for the deficit that they don't cover ( even though it says we are covered for 100% ...it's to a certain level and some doctors ( fab....ours! ) charge more and that's perfectly normal! I am so frustrated by this all. Phoning, being held in a blooming queue , listening to the same message / music repeat , it's my money! I want it back. We've just had a really tight month because of it, my wages are almost non existent at the moment.
Then I opened the water bill ....doubled! so everyone has been warned no long showers anymore! Also had a leaky loo cistern problem so that will be getting reported to estate agent when we get back from holiday. Grrrrrrr!
Anyway.....bills are all paid , supermarket vouchers have been saved up for holiday time, we have a ball to go to and a house to hoover so not one chocolatey hair goes on a white ball gown and we still have each other . We are fortunate in many ways if a little frustrated at Australian health system .
Enjoy the rest of your evening .0 -

1. Surprised to be waking up to the news this morning.
2. Working at home, lunch was a slice of Costco pizza sitting in the garden sun with DH, it was really lovely seeing the changes in the garden, lillies coming out and a bush that hasn’t flowered in about 11 years is flowering, it’s very delicate and pretty.:)
3. Clean bedding is on, upstairs is hoovered and cleaned, and the animals have been flea treated for another month.
4. Simple chop and cawli cheese tonight.
5. It’s the weekend, volunteering all day long tomorrow at a British Heart Foundation event as DH wants to do something different, though I would prefer not to be getting up at the crack of dawn on the weekend there’s always Sunday for a lay in.:o
6. We have too much “stuff”cluttering up the office so I worked my way through things, things that cost a lot, now void or available online from about 18 years ago - scarey how much time moves on and how things I am throwing away where an investment at the time.
