BoP unfortunately cannot bring live Scrabble this evening, but in the thirst game, he has laid ESQUIRE, then BISCUITS on two treble words, and straight after, DEVIATES, BoPsie has called for Raffles to do a pitch invasion.

It is likely that BoPsie will remain one win away from the chance of going for two on the bounce.

Match night latest. BoP won at Scrabble. BoPsie turns up trumps with Backgammon. BoP remains seven games without bearing off. Decider. Top table football. This could end up messy.

    Pleasures for today (Wednesday)

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Complimented on my outfit at work - by a young person!!

    3) Another horrible happening but things being put into place. :-/

    4) Tasty tea of Quorn pies (they're popular here!) with roast veg, peas and gravy. Bigger son made a treacle sponge.

    5) Cleaned the living room. Found some unposted Christmas cards on top of the piano...

    6) Did 20 mins of Wii fit.
  • Not a lot of pleasures today... dad has cancer and the prognosis is not great but...

1 staying positive, as dad is... or putting on a brave face
2 work was good, took my mind off of things and a pay rise on its way.
3 dogs have been clipped and despite the poodle parlour costing more than my grooming, they look cute
4 nice homemade dinner to warm the soul
5 very grateful to have a supportive family who are there for me and each other
Well Behaved women seldom make history

    Early retirement goal... 2026

    Reduce, reuse, recycle .
  • 1. Watched an incredibly moving holocaust film on the BBC, the man who achieved so much with his lifetime saving Jewish children.
    2. Another meeting over at DF’s, so we took over supplies and DH finished the first part of his work over there, while I talked to a person about some “issues”, I’ll give it a couple more weeks and if there are no improvements after the “excuses” today I shall throw my toys out of the pram. I can see both sides but it’s all still excuses.
    3. Managed to food plan tonight as it tends to be long travelling to DF, and we settled on grilled chicken wraps.
    4. The animals where over the moon to welcome us back.:)

Mrs M so sorry about your dad's prognosis . My thoughts are with you and your family x

Day 2/6 done and dusted. Busy - ish day at work , I am only in kitchen for part of day then newish girl comes in mid morning to take over from me and let me out the front . Made lovely little chocolate and raspberry cupcakes, Apple and cinnamon muffins and chicken and mushroom pies.

Drove to and from work and parked for free as I was there early enough.

Brought home cookies that hadn't sold, I may have eaten three!

A bit crazy weather this afternoon. Like a wee mini storm that blew out as quick as it blew in.....unfortunately me and dog were out in at as I picked up dry cleaning.....then boiling hot as I nipped into physio to pay DD2's next few sessions.

My eldest children have paid their dues! Thank you!

Back to school tomorrow! ( sigh .....back to uniforms and drafted pleated dresses! ) but yay to back to routine!

Do have a good day :)
  • Thank you all so much for your warm welcomes - sorry I then disappeared!!
I haven't had a chance to catch up on the thread since my first post, so apologies if I'm missing anyone who needs some moral support or a restorative virtual cuppa, but I'd like to keep posting & not let my perfectionism of having to post every day, or be up to date with the thread before I do, get in the way of me doing that...
So, Pleasures 1 - 1 million for me: my parents have arrived from the UK for an 8 week visit!! It's so good to see them, to see them with the kids, & to have extra pairs of willing hands to help with everything from cooking, shopping, cleaning to picking up the kids, playing with them & even bathing them! Such a lovely treat for all of us!
    And a random few others:
    - made a really yummy lasagne in my slow cooker.
    - got a good offer on our house from a buyer who can move immediately, with no house to sell. So we can purchase a block of land we want & start thinking about building our new house! (Buying a 'house & land' package is common out here in Oz).
    - my 4 year old DS being excited about going to his kindergarten orientation tomorrow afternoon. I'm definitely more worried about it than him! But of course trying to put my game face on...
    - the gorgeous pyjamas from Next that my mum kindly brought me out from England (I guess you can't get much more money saving than 'free'! Thanks, mummy!

LaineyT - Toppings now on my to-visit list. Sinus pain? That's *deeply* uncomfortable - but you still Got The Job! HURRAH! All good luck with wardrobe review.
DundeeDoll - cereal bars? Canny thought! An American friend carries McDonalds vouchers but the idea didn't make it across the Pond. Best way to loose keys I've ever read! Ye Gods, partial differential equations - still, a happy chap is worth higher mathematics.
mrs m - well behaved women wouldn't have got the vote! I declutter by emptying the bin. Small, steady steps... Sorry to hear about your dad - all strength to you.
Frith - surely plantar plus football is a Bad Idea? Blimey, well done with all this swimming! Counting down days til escape - oh dear, but it *is* satisfying. You found unsent cards too? I filed mine (*stamped* as well) for next year.
mhagster - I should have got a cord & worn them as an extra necklace At Once! Glad Burns Night was fun & *yikes* this headache?! Happy Australia Day! Right with you on the relief of getting back to school but hurrah holiday funds beginning to take shape. Hoping your customers appreciate your talents with kind words as well as hard cash?!
judi - we got a macsweens haggis & whilst I loved it, the lads were dubious at it seeming "paler" than the usual Halls, so I have been instructed to go back to the cheaper brand... Bother the paper round shenanigans, but fitness instructors earn more?!
Mrs LW - there is always virtual cake, and candles! Delighted to hear Zebra has a keen palate for the good things in life! The jacket spud is an unsung hero.
BoP - yon shot is handsome. My brain wants to go paddle At Once. Sorts brew & comfortable chair to watch live games... Argh - Raffles! Focus your efforts on the yellow stuff & leave us to enjoy the games?!
Skint - silence for six weeks! Well, that'll entertain your family, friends & colleagues with a single bit of paper?! Time for a Kids Magic Drawing Board Magnetic Seal type toy? Get the biggest you can hold easily as it's a bit unsubtle with handwriting... Plus it's safe for use in hospital - no iffy waves upsetting machinery.
Purple kitten - "postponed"?! Still, well done turning that time to good use. It is *rough* having DF at a distance but grilled chicken wraps sound a wonderful way to cope!
VJsmum - my sons are the last line between me & insanity. Happily, they keep that goalpost shifting. I'd have dotted OH with a fryingpan for crashing my planned photobook treat! The sea, & curry with son - there *is* an alternative universe & I need to find the door.... Really big cardboard boxes are just fun.
sparrer - that house sounds utterly amazing! Peas can be pretty odd, depending on how & where eaten. Snacks the size of dinner plates - ah, bliss, so long as supplier in another county.
Mrs White - what fun to have three generations & plan to have grandparents responsible for All bathtimes for a bit? Gives you a window of time to sort food, drinks, treats, and plan a bit... All good luck with house plans!

    OS Pleasures recently
Looking at the kitchen table & counting at least 6 projects on the go. Not all mine, phew.

The streets of Manchester have gone mouldy! There are intriguing green stripes. Likely for cyclists but currently unmarked & baffling at early hours.

Walking into the office In Daylight! Admiring the lines of the lollipopped trees - no green yet but still beauty.

Caught up with colleague & happily planning year ahead including archery, air rifle & axe throwing. Suddenly realised (belated recognition of *that* expression!) she doesn't know I scout & am being led astray by a swarm of tall young people...

Ah, Burns Night! Youngest happily policing up remains of the parsnips & planning his birthday supper to include them, along with sweet & sour ribs...

River rippling, artificial lights dancing thereupon. Not raining, yet.

Team meeting in very high up meeting room - great views and Lift Number Bingo!

Pleas from son to collect the coat he inadvertently abandoned at the supermarket - I may get voluntary photos on him looking both appealing & repentant! [Worth a try, anyway. Just.]

Son made a paper plane which flew fastest - he is the proud possessor of a local university freebie bus pass holder. The things we do to motivate our youth...

I *think* I have lost some weight. My knee no longer sounds like gravel in a blender going upstairs. Work trous still tight though, so I need to keep away from the sticky buns. Or just leave then nearer the lads...

Heard the Andrews sisters & Danny Kaye singing "Civilisation" & loved the lyrics - "Don't want no bright lights, false teeth, doorbells, landlords" - this is a very MS song!

Big hugs to all who need them, robust waterproofs & heavy roofing materials staying where needed and all good luck with the incoming weather!
  • 1. A brief slice of toast for brekkie and then on to run errands, a car piece collected and prescription picked up.:)
    2. A tuna lunch followed by returning some promising calls.
    3. Washing is now up to date dinner is on the go. Christening the new casserole bowl for dinner with all the leftover veg and rtc beef skirt from the freezer.
    4. I was meaning to wash the car today but it is still on the to do list as while it was lovely out, it was cold by the time I got round to it.:o
    5. I have been hoovering and cleaning the house from top to bottom every day to make sure its back up to date and also as part of a bit of extra exercise:o, as I am following my healthy diet but fell off with Costco pizza on Monday.
    6. The house smells lovely with the casserole cooking away, a candle is burning and a book will be in my hand soon, oh and another free kindle book offer downloaded today I’ll never be able to catch up but that’s fine.:rotfl:

    Quick pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Lots of texts from people. Don't usually get 1 a day!

    3) Bigger son donated some books to the school library fund. (They wanted books you no longer read to boost their library a bit).

    4) Played chess through break and lunchtime with a pupil.

    5) Sons had their hair cut.

    6) Tasty chicken kievs for tea. With cous cous and baked beans as we have run out of everything sensible!

    7) Went swimming with sons and my brother. I swam 42 lengths.

    8) Enjoyed watching First Dates with bigger son.

    9) Just finished cooking some fish for fish pie tomorrow night. Just need to do the potatoes now!

    10) In bed with 1 hwb now.

    Happy last day vjsmum :)

Hope any tears are one of happiness and excitement for the future. I remember making my maths lecturer on my teacher training cry on her last day when she left to do her PhD, when I said that I was spreading the word about 'lazy mathematicians' to all the children I teach and will ever teach (i.e. a lazy mathematician uses the most appropriate method to work out the answer to a problem so that they can have more time eating ice cream by the pool :) ). It was something she taught us and it really resonated (although we could have cocktails instead of ice cream, lol).

    1. Mummykins is still in hospital but the healing appears to be going well and her main surgeon is going to get some mileage out of the work he's been doing with her injury on the lecture circuit! Photos have been taken. Lucky them, I'd not want to see that sight again (and wish I could erase it from my brain as I'm still getting the cold flush of adrenaline far too frequently :( ).

    2. The Head taught my maths lesson for me yesterday to free me up to do something else and was impressed with it - phew!

    3. DD had an amazing time singing at the O2 with school- I've got to be very quiet when I get up so as to let her sleep in for a bit.....

    4. Have found a really fun dinosaur perimeter investigation lesson for Monday, hope the kids will enjoy it as much as I am putting it together :)

    5. YAY, IT'S FRIDAY! This week has flown by, thank goodness!
