  • 1. Its been very mild here today and the yellow thing has appeared a few times :)
    2. I managed to get 2 loads of washing done and out on the line ... although there wasn't much wind out there it has mostly dried so its just finishing off on airers
    3. went for a walk round the local pond for some fresh air and a bit of exercise
    4. had an afternoon nap :o
    5. changed the beds and put on my new quilt cover (bought for a bargain £9.99 even though priced at £16.99) Clean sheets are such a pleasure so I'm looking forward to going to bed later ! Does that make me a look a bit "sad" when the best thing I look forward to in bed is clean sheets ;)
I also put up my new light shade which was a bargain £1.99 so my new colour scheme is coming together now

    5. my new boots bought online in the sales arrived at my local newsagents and one pair are a fabulous fit and so very comfy like a pair of slippers . I hate going shopping so it was great to order online and collect locally and its very rare for me to find boots that fit so well with the shoe inserts I have to wear so that was a real pleasure. The other pair a size larger can be returned free.

 EEK .... have just seen MSE news blog they have gone into administration ... will be driving up the motorway tomorrow to return the second pair to store and hopefully get my refund (36.99)

Skint: It’s the day for fresh bedding.

    For yesterday
Both DH and I visited DF yesterday, DH is doing a lot of repairs while I spent a little time. We sorted our way through some old bits and bags of paperwork I have bought back home to go through. Some of it relates to my mum who passed away nearly 15 years ago now. I was sifting through and it was all fine until I reached an envelope of photo’s showing a party, thrown for me as a little child by neighbours for my mum, and tears literally sprang forth out of nowhere, I felt so daft, as memories sprang forward.

    Yesterday
    1. My second interview has been confirmed for next Tuesday afternoon, and I’ve also managed to get another interview for a company I’ve wanted to work for - for a while now, so hoping something will come up.:)
    2. Slimming down my books as I need the space for more books that we already have, halving the cook books, I inherited the original 3 Delia books from my mum which I couldn’t be without now, so I am losing 2 Jamie Oliver books and an Asda cook book, but I need to make more space than that far more space than that.! :rotfl:
    3. I sorted some bills out for DF and had to phone them all and each and every one gave me a discount without me even asking, today I literally saved just under £100 for DF without trying.:money:
    4. DF would like to pay DH for all the work he’s doing, while we weren’t going to let him, he was downright insulted, so we have agreed to bill him as it’s maintenance work he would have to get done, so we have agreed to put it in our pension pot.:)

    For Today
    1. I went through the last crate we bought home and laughed and smiled, there are some old diary’s with smoking adverts in, and some amazing bits and bobs I will keep hold of, stashed away in a box for now.:o
    2. A lot of tidying up, cleaned the kitchen tops, and kitchen floor, our bedding is in the wash, new bedding on, hoovered around up and downstairs and then mopped all downstairs:cool:.
    3. I made coffee cupcakes, not very healthy but should deal with our sweet tooth’s on a budget, I did a check on the freezer stock and there is a lot and a few spare drawers for things as and when.:p
    4. Not entirely a pleasure we hopped in the old car to visit dad yesterday and the “check engine” light came on, so we hopped into mine which was flat, turns out we will both need new car bits we can ill afford at the moment, DH has spent the day working on the check engine to fault find and see if there is a repair but it’s the expensive option sadly.
    5. We recovered mums old angle poise, who knows how old it is but DH has fixed the switch and repaired the light holder I have a light to see by when I want to read a book rather than a kindle.:)

pk - you will never part with Mum's 'old angle poise', I know, but vintage/ re-purposed industrial and retro similar/brutalist are London hot currently:

    1. Tough well-worked win, 7-3 and rain held off under clearing late arvo sky. Chunky game. Chunky-voiced & supplied wise advice and helped referee who had trouble tackling that job without benefit of mhags' new or &'s old lady lunettes. Seemed hard of hearing too. Never mind. Win is win. 3 of their players were binned! Toulon, 14-9 :-) - we're hanging on and in there.

    2. Bright sunshine petals of fat polyanthus in matching ceramic pots dressed head table for pre-match lunch. x bowed to &, offering her choice of same. He is Mr Club, king of all and a dear, offers & lunch at next home fixture, but & has other commitment next week.

    3. Both purple hwbs job-sharing nicely and are friendly again ce soir.

    3. Other day's Bank biz $NZ draft arrived today, v.v.quick. Can send on Monday.

    4. Tonight's half omelette using chestnut mushrooms+leek+pesto was lush. Served with steamed broccoli, last of friend's daughter's h-g olive oil[her finca in Portugal]dashed over + splash of balsamic. A really lovely, light, satisfying supper.

    5. Looking forward to more book and grauniad. Early hunt'n'gather boot start demain.

Quick pleasures for today - tired!

    1) A lie in!

    2) I had porridge for breakfast. Smaller son made himself fried eggs on toast then bigger son made himself a cheese omelette.

    3) Took bigger son to the gym after lunch.

    4) Had a game of football outside, the ground no longer as spongy and saturated as it has been.

    5) Watched a bit of the Voice plus Casualty.

    6) Smaller son has been discharged from speech therapy after several years. Or they have given up!

    7) Smaller son has just been telling me in great detail all about his school and every friend he has there and how he is looking forward to going to the upper school in September. (It's on 2 sites as they swapped from a 3 tier system to a 2 tier system locally but never bothered with any new buildings so he is in the old middle school bit!)

Good news re small Kittikins and hope mummy of Kittikins gets well very soon.

kk - many congrats to youngest dd and well wishes for Mum
pk - tears for mum understandable, nearly six years since I lost darling eldest brother and am still caught unawares, usually hearing shared fav music on car radio.
dd - ooh you party animal, ah belle and Sebastian, part of my youth too

    Some pleasures for yesterday,

    Waking up to sunshine.

Good sort through garden pots and general tidy up, both the rosemary bushes are in bloom, tiny blue flowers. Chives not so happy, don't think fleeced quickly enough. Parsley prolific.

Ordered new pair of clippers, watch out Mr Elliot, currently half horse, half bear.

Last minute equaliser from the Abbey, sorry Jeff.

Glass of cold Aspall's with crispy chilli beef.

Lainey - your lovely bookshop in Ely - is it called Topping? DH and I met and lived around Ely/Soham for a number or years and Topping was my sanctuary!

Kittikins - I can uncross my fingers for Little Miss Kittikins? Hurrah! :j :j Big, gentle hugs to mother.

Still full of cold. WHEN will it disappear?

Pleasures for the last few days:

    1) Day in London (for schoo!!!) at BETT - IT in education, effectively. Did everything I needed to do and exhibitors I needed to see, and then took myself off to Borough Market. Lovely.

    2) 4 NPDs and 4 NSDs. Always good.

    3) Spent our Christmas money. My mum had given us both money to put towards new suitcases, so we duly went to the local outlet yesterday. I would say "designer outlet", but it has M&S and Clarks. Hardly designer, but "normal". DH also got an M&S suit at a greatly reduced price.

    4) Cake in the oven for tomorrow night's cake club. My first one as co-organiser... This is my recipe: http://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/chocolate-orange-tea-loaf/

    5) Raided the yellow sticker section at Mr T's earlier today. Therefore, we have a lazy supper tonight. Not OS, but cheap.

  • Ampersand, thanks for the link and wow. You are right, I wouldn’t part with it. I have been picky what I have kept, but things like this angle poise has memories of my mum reading, an avid reader every day, the lamp, as with most of her things are circa late 1950’s when they finally had enough money to start purchasing things for the house. They slept on a mattress on the floor for the first year having bought the house outright. I think the quality is incomparable to the way a lot of things are made on a budget these days.

    1. We have been out of bread for a while, so using what we had it was nice to scoop a proper grilled brekkie together.:D
    2. I couldn’t be without the animals they make me laugh and have little habits like, one will always “help” me make the bed, pretending to be scared of the sheets then pouncing and bouncing at my alien hand through the sheets.:rotfl:
    3. I need to lose weight:eek: as steroids/not thinking about it/ and thin is never going to be my natural shape:rotfl:, I’ve been eating healthily this week and pleased to see the scales starting to make a slow move in the right direction. I’m not on a named diet, but I am planning in advance what to eat and eating a little bit less.
    4. One more free kindle book, quite a few to catch up on now.
    5. Dinner tonight leftovers again, but I will turn it all into spaghetti carbonara, this uses them up at last time making way for something fresh tomorrow.:)
