  • 1) DD home safely at midnight last night, exhausted but it was a good trip enjoyed by both pupils and staff.

    2) Smoked salmon on rye bread for breakfast this morning.

    3) Making 2 dozen marshmallow spiders with strawberry bootlace legs and googly sugar eyes to go on the cupcakes I made yesterday for Halloween tomorrow.

    4) Watching DD carve pumpkin and large marrow for tomorrow, it doesn't get to be any less fun even when you're 67!

    5) Skype with Zebra and DD2 this evening, that boy has so many words now and understands so much, bless him!

Less than 2 miles from me BoP. Had I known I'd have invited you for coffee but after staying at Henlow you probably wouldn't want to mix with the plebs ;)

    1. Beautiful rain followed by bright sunshine, making everything sparkle and glisten
    2. Toasted hm wm with mushrooms cooked in butter and cream with a little garlic
    3. 10 DGC and 4 DGGC's c-word presents bought and wrapped.
    4. The washing bin and ironing basket are empty
    5. Three more shopping bags finished. Made from green brocade curtain fabric, lined with curtain linings, cost 0 pence. I have 5, more than enough to fill the boot for monthly shopping trips.

    Sweet dreams :)

hi folks have been mia since breaking my laptop last week - postman woke me with doorbell and I shot out of bed and kicked my laptop off the bed - where I had left it after waking early and dozing off again - and it crashed onto the floor

    So, some recent pleasures

    1. DS had his last day in his current job and he brought me home an old work laptop they have donated to me ....yay !

    2. paperweight which postman brought (see above!) for DS's GF's 21st is lovely and was only 5.99 on bay of E with free postage

    3. little robin flitting around the garden several mornings this week

    4. moved bedrooms round and cleared a lot of stuff so have much more room upstairs now - not so nice was the dust and dirt under/behind beds & chests of drawers etc - yuck - note to self ... must move furniture and clean behind it more often (embarrassed !)

    5. have switched my gas and electric to uswitch eon collective (for some reason smilies are not working p but take it that martins decapitated MSE head is spinning here ! Sounds like a Halloween nightmare ! )

    6. enjoyed catching up with all your pleasures. Have a great weekend x

    Merry Samhain to all x

Just one big pleasure for yesterday, took phone call from Solicitor about 3pm to say that final agreement had been signed by ex-employers and that should check my bank account as the agreed sum should have been paid, which it had. Mixed feelings abounded, have worked there for nearly fourteen years, for 12.5 had been simply the best with fantastic colleagues, over and above benefits and the real feeling that you were appreciated by the company you worked for. Then we were taken over and all that changed.......my OH was made redundant earlier in the year and I was too awkward to have around......sigh
Anyway, here I am, unemployed for the first time in the 33 years since left school - know have been lucky - so what to do now. Will take time out and think things through, spend time with people that matter and just be. The stress of last few months have taken their toll so need to recognise that.
Anyway, onwards and upwards, have good day everyone.

lainey hopefully as one door closes another will shortly open .

Saturday night here, was getting up this morning as a storm was raging overhead.....not sure who was the daftie......but I dont think it was the dog! he didn't want to go out and I was out in the rain calling him to come out! I got wet , he didn't!

Drive to work....wow! Glorious scenes as storm raged over the City centre.

Quieter than usual day , the derby horse race was on so I think a lot of people were at that, also a holiday weekend so perhaps people away for weekend.

Home and delighted to see my tawny frogmouths are back in the big tree with a new baby! So happy!

Went to cinema with OH , I dont even remember the last film we went to see but we went to see ' The Dressmaker' , bit of an odd one .

I must, I must do my tax return tonight but can't get on the site! Wah!

    Have a lovely day

ETA waaaaaah! Tax return done with much stress and no that's not the answer to your secret security questions! Anyway done and hopefully a refund!

And I could had got me claws done as well!

Well BoP is back on the nest, and the BoP Holiday fund has been swamped because of due diligence. £400 smackers in there, safe in the back vault of the building society!

1 Steaming, and still steaming. Two half pint home made Christmas puddings already steamed. Last pint one in steamer just now. Made with IOM whiskey this year. Never brandy! Perfect. Will be flames come chrimbo day.

2 This years Christmas cake came out at 6lb 7oz. It is doing well, being seeped in IOM Whiskey and orange. Will be boarded, marzipan, and iced. Proper Royal icing. Recipes are tried and tested. BoPsie stirred it up as well!

3 And all time for the usual Saturday fest of Snorkers, best back, mushrooms, toast, baked beans, poached egg, washed down with tea. Rubs Tum. Nice. Please be aware that eating bacon is bad for you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

4 New taps and sink bought, ready for fitting inn three weeks time. BoPsie is ...

Monkey say, monkey do. If you please for evil, those around you will see evil!

Edit. Lain! Their loss, your gain!

    Oh and :heartpuls to ...

    Pleasures for yesterday and today:

    Friday

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Off on mini holiday! Stopped in Skenfrith (one of my favourite places) for our picnic. Walked along the riverbank and looked at the water mill, now falling into disrepair. Looked around the castle and the church. Smaller son had a chat with a cat.

    3) On to Tintern Abbey - hadn't been there before. We quite enjoyed that.

    4) Youth Hostel let us in before the official check in time (which was good as it was still raining and getting dark).

    5) Our room was good (the prison!) with the ancient fireplace and even more ancient tiny windows plus seats in the metre thick walls.

    6) We had decided on having the medieval banquet rather than the normal evening meal. It had a Hallowe'en theme but was all very tasty and had to be eaten without cutlery! Also had some riddles to solve and a little historical talk during the meal.

    7) After the banquet we had a sort of Cluedo around the castle. We had another lady in our team and her daughter (she could have been Kittikins as she was living in the same area, and a teacher, and with a daughter!) I wondered if I should hide my usual competitiveness regarding games but she was equal to me as she stood up from the table saying "Team, we are definitely winning this!" Various clues in different rooms and we not only won but bigger son won an extra clue which no one had found all season!

    8) I had hidden from sons that St Briavels Castle is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in the UK and the banquet lady had said to the adults that she wasn't going to mention it as there were children in the group. I'm not really into that sort of thing. I was quite surprised to hear a strange noise before going to sleep and to be woken by someone shoving my arm. :-/ Our team mate (sleeping in the Hanging Room....) was woken by someone gulping! Sons slept straight through.

    Today

    1) A tasty breakfast.

    2) I told sons a bit about the various ghosts that had allegedly been seen over the years including the black dog. By coincidence, a couple walked past outside the restaurant with a black lurcher so I said "Look, there it is!" :-D

    3) Bigger son had an archery lesson in the grounds.

    4) We went on a tour of the castle given by the staff (with our team mates again, everyone else had booked out).

    5) Stopped in Hereford on the way home and had lunch in my favourite caf!. Also bought fireworks and sparklers.

    6) 3 corkers from sons during our car journeys. Smaller son - my hair is nearly growing over my ears. Bigger son - it's practically reaching your fallopian tubes! Me - Eustachian tubes?! Bigger son - er, yes.

Smaller son - is Grandma on the list for her Cornelia transplant now? and - If cows don't have hay bales in the winter, they can also eat sewage, can't they? Me - silage?

    7) Good to get home and feed the cats. Second load of washing on, as though we've been gone for days.

    8) Hallowe'en bonfire at parents'. We took sparklers, fireworks and brownies. It was a big fire.

    9) Enjoyed watching Dr Who and Casualty. About to put the laptop on the landing so all listeners can hear the Now Show. :-)

ETA - walked in to the end of the rugby game at parents' and said to brother, "I only know one person from New Zealand but no one from Australia" (Ampersand!) and at that moment, New Zealand won!

I've just checked and it's nearly four weeks since I last posted... shouldn't have looked! This term is being terribly busy but in a mostly good way. :D

    Five pleasures for Saturday:

    1. Shelled all the remaining beans for drying from the allotment. Now have a beautiful big bowlful. Am looking forward to using them when they have completely dried to complete this year's experiment and give me some idea of how many to plant next year. Hope they taste as good as they look.

    2. Lovely, lovely evening on my own: candles lit; woodburner lit and roasting; huge bowl of hot soup; fresh dates from the veg shop. I'm sure I made the right decision to stay in not venture out to what would have almost certainly have been a good gathering at our nearest stone circle.

    3. Am having a wood delivery in a week's time and the local DIY shop have let me have a few pallets to stack the wood on. They carried them over to our house for me. V. kind.

    4. Have found a great site with free playlists of music - you can search for what sort. It's called http://8tracks.com/. Maybe other people know about this kind of thing but I've only just discovered it!

    5. Excellent book from the library.

    Sweet dreams

Had to work yesterday but it was only for the morning and the last Saturday for a while. It also went quite quickly.

Spent some time in the garden and cleared a small area and picked and saved some seeds.

Enjoyed the rugby and pleased that the All Blacks won.
