    Quick pleasures for today (Wednesday):

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) House immaculately tidy!

    3) Surveyor came (see 2) and took about 10 minutes looking round. Automated email from building society to say they have received his valuation - another step forwards.

    4) Sons came home! Smaller son very stroppy for 2 hours then settled down and they got the train track and lego out.

    5) Pizzas for tea then a vast HM apple and blackberry crumble.

    6) In bed now with 2 hwb.

    A collection.
    1. The story posted earlier about the Rainbow Pony. Latest in a long line of little things that made me stop and think for a minute.

    2. Visit from DD & DGC, minus hounds this time. I enjoy time with them so much.

    3. DD, better than the best cleaners cos she knows exactly where stuff goes, offered her reorganisation skills on my hats, gloves and winter scarves. All three are much used in late autumn, winter and early spring as I cycle.
So I now have three cotton shoppers hanging up, each containing one type of accessory. Cycling coats are on a previously underused over-door coat rack. Rest of place is gleaming too, all effortless, unobtrusive and done as DD chatted away.
Many years ago DD worked as a cleaner whilst doing A Levels; someone trained her well.
DD is far more efficient at cleaning than anyone I know, apart from professionals.

    4. Showing DGC how to make and bake tortilla pizzas so they can make them at home, much cheaper /quicker than bread bases. I used to batch bake my pizza bases, but the discovery of tortilla pizzas has meant I can have a tasty hot made from scratch lunch in less than fifteen minutes.

    5. Being sent a good biography to read directly from the publisher. Will link to the review when read, a life in music so very much my thing.

    6. Changing a light-bulb and resetting the fuse box trip switch myself. With my balance this is potentially a bit fraught, esp as Dr C. borrowed my stepladder. I used my Addis bathroom step and all was well.
The fuse box is behind the washing machine and I needed my wooden walking stick to reach across and flip up the trip switch. At one time I did every bit of home maintenance myself, even jobs I shouldn't have done (installing kitchen light, cough). With arthritis, just changing a light bulb is a triumph!

    7. Your pleasures, as always.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

    Evening all

    A nice day off

Fairly productive morning then slowed right down in the afternoon as its just too hot!

Made a fish pie for the fish eating people ( not me)
Served with sweet potato and pumpkin mash. The pumpkin was the innards of my little Halloween pumpkin , grown in our garden and kept especially for the occasion.

Ventured into the garage ( where the spiders live) to get my Halloween decorations , but that I have many these days but back porch and front porch suitablly decorated .

Son had second exam.one more in a couple of weeks . We had nice eggy croissants when he came home made by DD1 and watched the apprentice.

Read for a while, I'm glad I'm in a reading mood again.

Wrote some emails. I think I'm all up to date with my correspondence.....over to you friends ...your turn.

    Have a fantastic Thursday.
  • Look, could has got BoP's claws done last eve, but nailshop closed!

It's early POETS Day, and BoP, come four, will be away. Rushing back to the nest.
  • 1. A bucket of concrete with a pole in it. For halloween witch wobbly thing.
    2. Washing dry in greenhouse
    3. Earnt £38 yesterday, promptly spent it on food
    4. Fires lit, daft cat asleep in coal bucket, no white bits left.
    5. Attempt at parkin edible. Why oh why does a good ginger cake elude me.
Interesting downshifting read thanks. Don't think we can shift any further down...reducing your wants can be hard.

5 OS pleasures - hmm, enforced confinement to quarters as awaiting an operation, so enjoying time out of the rat race chez Nargle.

    1. Collecting fresh egg from the one of our two chickens who is still laying ( must get another one or two chickens early next year.)

    2. Collecting bowl full of ruby red crab apples from our tree, to make crab apple jelly over the weekend.

    3. Home made coffee and walnut cake, ready for our friend the hairdresser who visits tomorrow to cut our hair - we get the Royal Albert teaset out and have home made cakes.

    4. Home made mince pies using home made mincemeat (well, had to use
up that half jar left over when I made it the other week!)

And, to get away from the food theme.....

    5. It is 21:15hrs. OH watching The Last Kingdom on TV, our DS upstairs playing on his keyboard, two puddy cats curled up in chairs snoozing near the fire....And I am on my way to bed to lie in freshly-laundered bed linen and read a book (a real book in dead tree format) before settling to sleep.
One life - your life - live it!

Evening all...a day most hot and still warm

    Back to work .
    Free train
Made pumpkin cupcakes and butter cream icing topped with crumbed tablet on top. Delicious.
Very productive day ...only tomorrow to do and then off for another 3, so tried to get lots done.

Train home , popped in to florist to buy a post and was given a bunch of tulips for free as well which was so kind. She also gave me a leaflet with vouchers for our wee town. So popped into bakers and got 6 free rolls. Thank you.

Home and listened to youngest daughter's tales of woe......at least she tells me stuff.

Daughter number one recently won a $200 voucher so showed everything she had bought today. She took part in a survey at uni and won!

Hoping to relax this evening and up early for work tomorrow.

Morning all, rain is starting, hopefully will clear up later. Some pleasures for yesterday

Went to see my boy, rather than riding I just spent time with him in his field, scratching his neck and chest, having a little cry into his mane as my work issues have reached a conclusion.

Went over to see my DM and was treated to ones of her yummy cheese scones and given six more to take home, lucky Lainey.

Dropped Mum off at DB's as she is babysitting for weekend, saw my 6ft3 nephew, 15 and being looked after by his tiny Grandma, but lovely for her to be with her grandchildren for a few days.

Glass of wine with evening meal, then read for hours, total bliss.

And, a good nights sleep, always a pleasure.

LamberT - hope your work issues are resolved soon.

Gorgeous sunrise this morning seen when I opened up the chickens and had to go in to find my phone to take a photo or two. I had never seen the sky as red.
Realised DS2 had been out at uni last night as I had received a strange text at 2.30am.
Long conversation with my sister yesterday and it was good to catch up with her.
Cooked fish pie for tea and enough left to freeze. It was good and will save me cooking another evening.
