    Just catching up and

    1. Pleasures 1-100 - MHag's fabulous news. I too, had a little something in my eye, both upon reading that Mr MHags is clear, but also the love and friendship that shines through the posts.

    2. Was able to call the dad of one of the most 'troubled' children in to see me on Thursday to tell him just how proud I am of his son's polite, friendly and hard-working attitude to life, others in the class and the adults who work at school since he started in my room. Boy's face was a delight to behold - as was the news the next morning that dad had gone out and bought boy a cat last night! He got my 'Courtesy' certificate in front of the whole school :)

    3. Managed to get through a week without too much upset, unless you count theft, physical violence, incontinence and the opposite amongst children, oh and a wee bit of putting a smile on my face with their amusing writing! All this, and feeling like death warmed up with a fevery cold thing that is making me shiver as I type!

    4. My amazing pastoral support colleague, who seems to spend most of her day in my classroom, looking after both the children and myself. I wouldn't be this chilled out if she wasn't there!

    5. DD - who has put me to bed a few nights this week and has sensibly suggested that we don't go to the Imperial War Museum today...I hate to say it, but she's right, bed is the best place for me :(

    6. The funny moments this week - such as when I was reading about creation from Genesis and said "and God said - STOP FIDDLING!!" and then carried on....the children took it in their stride; I spent the rest of the afternoon trying not to cry with laughter :)

    7. Payday - and at long flipping last my tax code has been sorted! Nice rebate from April as well :)

    8. Went out for dinner with a couple of lovely friends on Friday night, and one picked me up. Perfect!

    9. We had a nondescript meal but then a lovely drink in a pub that has recently changed hands, and had a really chilled-out atmosphere, nice music and a beautiful dog sprawled over his armchair :)

    10. Feel I need a 10th! Am looking forward to an afternoon of vaguely French fun with the key stage, celebrating European Day of Languages tomorrow (just hope all my ideas are well-received, it's my first big event and I really want both children and my colleagues to humour me!).

kittikins hope you'll soon feel better and look at the difference you make to these kids day! Well done you!

Once again , thanks for your kind wordsm we are still getting used to the idea of being okay!

So , three shifts done and one more to go on Monday...poached eggs? I will give you poached eggs ladies!
Kitchen closes at 3pm and 4 young people ordered full breakfasts at 2.50pm which took till after 3pm to cook, was just clearing up when one sent their eggs back, not runny enough and then another sent theirs back too ( this has never happened in 20 months of working there) so I had to freshly boll water , cook their eggs all the whilst grumbling, swearing, muttering! Rest of their food was cold so had to redo that! Got out at 3.45pm instead of 3pm, yesterday was similar when people ordered burgers at 2.55pm. I will get paid for my extra time but when you've been in since 6.30am it's a long enough day without staying on. Anyway....one more to go!

The sun is shining..OH sent me a photo of Haggis enjoying the sun lying on the back porch, he's currently sprawled on the porch sofas ....both of them are actually!

Quick catch up with friend from home this morning before work and a nice thank you from her daughter as I'd sent her some post! She loves getting mail and it's such an easy thing to do to make someone happy.

Singing along to the radio on the way home, windows down, music up loud.'come on Eileen ' one of my favourites! DD2 slumping on passenger seat with embarrassment. Who cares!

Think that's me for now....never as many pleasures on a worky weekend! New chap has started , jury is out , however, boss seems to like him. He will be doing every second sunday in kitchen for me so I really do hope he works out!

    Have a lovely Sunday :)

Still feeling mhags' news and everyone's reactions, reasons for persisting with hopeless connectivity here. Some rugby posts have been managed though;-)

    1. Chilly nip fingers here as I've just hung out all the Rugby Club teatowels in a still, misty dawn while the dark wash beermats have their soapy chuckabout.
Jenny wren was hopping about through back fence and chirruping along, singing her melodious little heart out. I'll rug up, take late brekkie out there shortly and just be listening to nothing except small creature domestics.

    2. Lots of picking and making, including strip-pick of 20-something nectarines from the tree that just started out front last year. It's 10'-ish high now, good shape. The rhubarb ginger jam with a few rtc w8r0s clementines is a tweaky mix of 2 recettes and it is divine.

    3. Beautiful weather helps so much. Sun on face during yesterday's club match - shocker result though - then great watching and camaraderie and new black spaniel pup Peggy friendship. Between matches, popped over to Scotsdales for their special £2.49 sproncey secaturs offer....and just 2 No More Books from the charity shelf.

    4. Looking forward to 15h Harvest Festival down at x's farm/orchard, opposite one of our Churches. Feeling all the extremes and proximities of our world and its peoples much heightened during current times, of which this Thread is part.

    5. New to & £2 Uggs, new and unworn! Put them on last night. Très snug.

    6. There's been some fabulous listening this week. &'s top 3:
Edmund de Waal's 'The White Road: A Pilgrimage of Sorts'
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06bgbvx

    and here:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06cb0hz

    and the omnibus here:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06dl9pt

Then Wednesday's's 'Bringing Up Britain' [manners and discipline - kk, Frith, mhags :-)] The whole series of 3 is excellent, as is Mariella Frostrup.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b069wkvs
[Thought of your strop child aussi bop, post passim]

    and DID, Dame Judi Dench
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06bd681

Definitely lovely having Miles Jupp hosting NQ, too. Goodie!
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006r9yq

and there you have a 4-ish sort of 3, in the same multiflex spirit that is &'s counting of 5 osps.

    Hello,

Have been reading along or a while, hope it's ok if I join in :)

Morning spent in garden, enjoying warm sunny weather.

Abundant cookers picked, some stashed in shed, others prepped and now gently sleeping in freezer facilities :rotfl:

Toms sorted, still going strong but some splitting, JH types stashed in airing cupboard, fingers crossed for ripening.
Best view in world? Between my horses ears as we walk out over the fens, time to just be.

Cheesey, advocado nachos for tea, yum, with some fallingdownwater to commiserate the rugger boys.

Have just replaced a heap of MIA Thanks - AGAIN.
But neither of my disappeared posts have returned. Infuriating.
vl - envied your rugby tickets. Namibia's try was great and Sarries' Burger amazing.
No so-called minnow matches are disappointing. Canada/Italy yesterday was terrific.

I was sneaking back in here quietly to whisper hello again and pass on a link to & and others only to discover mhags news.:j I haven't been following the preceding posts but your latest news is fantastic. I'm so pleased for you, Mr mhags and family :D

    to all.

I have just realised I've been away for over four months - it's been a bit of a roller coaster of a summer, nothing dramatic but just hard work.

I've just been searching for online courses to help kick my long term writing project into action again and, at a tangent, came across a website full of links to sites for free audio books including these ones in French: http://www.litteratureaudio.com/classement-de-nos-livres-audio-gratuits-les-plus-apprecies Had a listen to excerpts from a few and thought they will be useful for my rusty French and might be really useful for fluent speakers, &?

    Five pleasures for now:

    1. I remembered my password!

    2. Went to a fantastic lecture yesterday - local history - which has made me change my mind about which short course I want to do next term. Very good lecturer - the time whizzed by. Still thinking about some of the things that were talked about.

    3. Porridge with defrosted stewed plums from the lottie for breakfast in bed.

    4. Sunshine.

    5. Links for R4 - thanks & -somehow I'd missed Dench and de Waal this week although I had picked up the info about his new book - they'll all be good background listening for the paper sorting I'm about to start.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone. Hope you all get as least as much sunshine as we have here right now. :D

  • 1.A little bit more gardening, the pond edging is weeded, and bulbs planted, then dug up a large plant doing a takeover bid in the front garden all along it, and replaced it with all of the lily bulbs dug up from the back garden yesterday.
2.The house full of the aroma of roast cooking away, pork crackling, broccoli and carrots, apple sauce and roast pots, was delicious a lot of casserole stock left and a mess.:D
    3. A very lazy Sunday evening planned. I think films are a must.:)
    4. You might hear this a lot this week, 3 weeks left at work, l am looking forward to the future, sadly I am trying to ignore the current workdays at least.
    5. Looking forward to the supermoon tonight, with clear skies we might see it.

    Good evening everyone! :hello:

Mhags - What immense news! That is just SO fantastic! Like others, there was a tear in my eye (ok, a couple in both eyes....) when I read your post. Just so, so brilliant. Am I even allowed to do a little :j?

    Pleasures, other than Mhags' news:

    1) A fair few NPDs.

    2) Spent time with friends this week - a comedy night here (front row...:o) and a pub trip there. DH is away with his best friend in South Africa as a 40th birthday present to himself. (best friend now lives in SA)

    3) Heard Lucy Worsley speak. Amazing historian and very interesting.

    4) Been handing out England #WearTheRose badges left, right and centre.

    5) Stint on the local radio station talking about England rugby. See number 4. I am one of the Rose Army, a select 100 people charged with helping to encourage England to support the rugby.

    6) Spent today with my mum. She's just called me for supper - STEAK! Yum! What a treat.
    Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared
  • 1) Lovely long skype with DD2 and the Zebra child who was shouting Oma at the screen and then Opa when He Who Knows came into shot, then he shot out of picture and was heard shouting Dada BATH!!!!! so cute.

    2) The moon I can see from the window, huge and beautiful and all the world is lit up with moonlight it's lovely!

    3) A lovely walk with Cookie up the river then inland across the Admirals Field, back through the woods and then home and she did most of it off lead, she's a good girl.

    4) Home grown soup for lunch using a massive leek from the garden, some really ripe tomatoes , a home grown onion and the first of the allotment butternut squash which was savoury and delicious.

    5) Still enjoying the rugby on the TV so The Rugby World Cup is no 5!

How/where did you watch last night, vicky?
    #
    1. Everyone out and look at that full moon, right now, if you haven't already.
    [Yes, Ms Bossy]Fantastic.

    2. Harvest Service was in Church instead, as that village F&V show was in there yesterday. All produce, displays, entries were still there. Some brilliant Classes, including Creative Re-cycling - winner used old harrow, watering can etc, to make metal peacock. Could use that at &'s RUFC :-). Really great setting and service and sermon and tea and cakes...:-) Have just dropped some off to someone who wanted to be there but couldn't.

    3. Really enjoying early Agatha Christie, 1947 - The Labours of Hercules. The writing has real edge.

    4. So much for earlier plan re: brekkie. part 1 -
No sooner out than back field harvest was running along &outback. Big noisies and Big Boy Machines, 3 of them. Their job to be done, my option to avoid, so did. RWC to be heard, was. Bookended no.2.

    5. So much for earlier plan re: brekkie. part 2 -
...and, because little saved old airfield was having Open Day, a yellow aerobatic chap was doing his noisy swoop'n'loop stuff, right over &squat. Fine, but not a.m. conducive, so & definitely out but rugby laundry safely in.

    Bonne nuit.
