just come back m an early morning coffee and breakfast in town, treated by someone special.

it is a lovely sunny day and I love the smell of clean washing on the line

I have a huge bunch of tomatoes growing well, though not ready yet, but the fact that I haven't killed the plants is something to smile about

back courtyard area looks lovely with the lavender pots and smells lovely

just me and the cat here today, my day off and I will potter and bake and sit in the garden

    Have a lovely day everyone
  • 1) a misty and chilly start to the day that was beautiful to look at, and jolly cold to be outside in, definitely autumnal.

    2) A golden day now that the mist has cleared, warm and sunny with a slight breeze keeping it comfortable, a day to make you glad to be alive.

    3) Drying some of the main crop potatoes on the lawn in the sun and packing them into the storage sack, always gives me a 'safely gathered in' feeling.

    4) Watching the bees in the garden, still busy in the flowers, still gathering pollen, still working hard, bees are great!

    5) Finding some dried blueberries in the Grape Tree this morning that I can afford, so they are now in my cupboard, delicious.

Well done, DD's DDs! And smaller son had a bag of mini daims for his birthday, especially collected from Ikea!

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) 16th course of antibiotics (this course has lasted 5 weeks!) has been thrown away, as directed, 3 days post operation. :-)

    3) Smaller son has made a dramatic recovery so we went to Ironbridge. Didn't walk far so went to Enginuity then to Blists Hill Victorian town. The highlight really was taking the drone so we have some aerial film of furnaces and the viaduct.

    4) My car is ready (suppose it will have to be Monday now). I think the garage must be ruing the day they decided to sell it with a warranty. This time it is going in about back wheel bearings (?) and that one wiper no longer moves... I note the courtesy car speedo stopped working somewhere near Bridgnorth. :-/

    5) Pie and chips from the van for tea.

    6) Watched Casualty.

    7) New geocaching thing arrived in the post.

    8) Booked holiday insurance online. 9 days to go!

McC - I make Jack Monroe's bean burgers a lot (can't remember the exact name for them now but they've got coriander and carrot in plus mashed up kidney beans). The pasta with a tin of mandarins in worked surprisingly well. I often look through book 1 but was not so impressed with book 2.

Thanks Frith. You and me both not so impressed, to be honest.
I really think that book 2 was for Jack's Guardian reading audience, it certainly reads like that. Not that there's anything wrong with the Guardian, but that sure as hell wasn't the impetus behind the first book.

Don't do the bramley apple soda bread from book 2, the quantities are all wrong. Far too much liquid. It had the distinction of being the stodgiest thing I've ever eaten without resorting to throwing any of it away.

I had the cauli mac (book 2) last night and it really needs a lot of parmesan to make it tasty. I had that the first time I made it but not this time, I used mature cheddar and it really wasn't the same. I am leaving the frozen portion in the freezer until I have some Aldi parmesan.
Parmesan isn't really in the spirit of the first book, is it? Though I think Jack did mention it once or twice.

I did the carrot and bean burgers from book 1 once, they weren't at all bad, will have to have another go at those as I have all the ingredients.
I confess, mine were not vegan, I shoved in two Oxo cubes.

I haven't tried the mandarin pasta, but the salmon pasta with a chilli lemon kick was really lovely, that's the one that's made with a jar of fish paste.
I must see if I have any chilli flakes left to do that one.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

I don't think I've made a single recipe from book 2! I've made the book 1 soda bread and it's quite nice.

    1. Met a friend for coffee in an independent tea shop. We then had a look around the shops but didn't spend anything.

    2. Went to the bottle bank. A job I had been meaning to do for ages.

    3. Using my new greenhouse.

    4. A drink in the garden with DH and both sons were out.

    5. Mussels for tea. So easy to cook and tasty.

Good evening all. Sunday evening here.

Have worked all weekend as usual. Very busy yesterday , not as busy today ( which suited me fine) two more days to go.

Went out for some food with OH which was rather nice.

Woken at absolutely silly o'clock this morning (4.15am) by a barking dog 2 doors along. Stayed in bed until alarm went off at 5.05am then got up and started my day. Chat with friend back home.

The biggest welcome home from both my boys! DS and Haggis were at the back gate when I pulled in the driveway .

That's about it for worky days!

    Have a lovely Sunday :)

    Well done DD's dds :)

    1. Miss Kitti and I went to Coventry yesterday for the first time ever, and had a fabulous day.

    2. We enjoyed lots of theatre, exhibits and hands-on making - e.g. best paper airplane in the world at the (I think it was called) Imagineer festival, all for freeeeeee.

    3. We also had an awesome time at the Herbert art gallery at the children's television exhibition with my BFF and her chap - there was something for all ages, as the comments on the wall attested - we weren't the oldest :) !

    4. Scrummy veggie balls in I**a - yay! Still no mini kannelbullar in the food shop (I think after this many years they will never come back :( ) but we did buy a bag of frozen ones, as DD stated that we're too lazy to make them ourselves! (Never a truer word spoken)

    5. Found out about a 'wonder diet' (alternate day fasting) that BFF's chap is doing - he's lost a ton of weight in the last 2 years, and feels amazing for it. Am seriously considering it....as I certainly need to!

    6. Glorious sunshine all day, thank you Coventry! :):)
