    6) First time in weeks I`ve posted, despite reading & lurking most days. Feel I am no longer a `drop-out`!

I'm getting to be the same, just too much going on to spend time at the laptop these days. Must try harder...

mhags and family huge (((hugs))) to you all. You stay on our prayer list and although you and they remain completely anonymous friends from church always ask after you all x

    1. Delighted that I don't have to hear the V word for a few more years.

    2. Back on a pulmonary rehab course for 7 weeks (or at least until the NHS is killed off). The service has been under threat of having funding withdrawn for the past three years and is hanging on by a thread with the support of local GP's/consultants who constantly refer clients. They at least can see the value of these courses and clinics. It would be a pointless exercise to scrap it as if we lose this service, and so many others, people's health will deteriorate enough for them to need hospitalisation which will cost a lot more. Crazy.

    3. Went to see Far From The Madding Crowd yesterday. Difficult to say if it was as good as the book as I enjoyed both equally. I want to read the book yet again now, or after I've read the other couple of dozen on my list.

    4. Two more couples have asked to join us on holiday next month so have booked them into the hotel and managed to get their seats on the plane next to ours at no extra charge

    5. Just going to settle down to watch Henry V which I have on 5 video's so may be here long after midnight, but I have a Ma@gnum to keep me going for part of the evening :)

Have a good rest of the weekend :)

    Evening all :)

Five pleasures for Saturday - all gardening related!

    1. A phone call saying thank you from my mum for the baby salad leaves I took her and my dad yesterday. They had them with their supper. We are just starting to eat food from the allotment :D

    2. Got my first copy of Kitchen Garden mag in the post courtesy of some long-forgotten points from Mr T. There were some freebie seeds with it which actually might be useful as well.

    3. A good few hours digging and strimming down at the allotment this afternoon.

    4. Chatting to my lovely lottie next-door neighbours.

    5. The low-in-the-sky sunlight as I was leaving early evening made everything glow and look fantastic.

    Sweet dreams

Just a few quick pleasures from the last few days. A tiring week!

    1) Survived the polling duties on Thursday. Worked from 6.30am - 10.30pm and it was hard going. We did not have 5 minutes without someone coming through the door and for a 3 hour period, had over 200 per hour. :-/ I am considering not doing it again, and certainly will not if I have to go to work the next day... The £ from it is going to get bigger son a better mattress. He is so bony that if he lies on his side, a pointy bit of pelvis gets sore, on his back, a knobbly bit of spine etc!

    2) One funny bit of Thursday is that we were so overworked, we started to go to pieces after 12 hours or so! In the morning we had trilled "here is your ballot paper for the general election..... and here is your paper for the district council election". When the queue went down the stairs and into the carpark, we were grunting "General!" and "District Council"! At one point my mind when blank and all I could think was "District Council Building Services" and I just had to hand the ballot paper over and stare blankly. My colleague, (former nurse), later handed over a paper and said "Here's your general anaesthetic" ! :-D

    3) Proper job was not too bad.

    4) Went swimming on Friday night.

    5) The chip van has not been on the village hall car park here for some weeks. :-( So we were pleased to see a Thai food van park on Friday and it is coming every week. :-)

    6) Went to a coffee morning this morning locally.

    7) Bigger son has done some homework!

    8) Sister came round with niece and helped me with some housework. This spurred me on to do more and it's getting more ordered again now.

    9) Something has been arranged for my 40th birthday (next month) which is really rather exciting - more news to follow.

    10) Did paperwork this evening to stop benefits (well, they have been stopped already but this means the amounts can be worked out properly). 4 massive forms and copies of payslip waiting to be posted tomorrow to 4 different offices. Glad to have got that job done.

    Thinking of you, MHags.

Dundee Doll what time of night do you call this to be posting on MSE ? Were you just in or just up early?

A day of tears but also of laughter too...shall share some of both.

Up early-ish and pottered, had expected Casualty to be on but it wasn't :(

Made some delicious cauliflower soup which we had at lunch with some lovely white bread...it always seems a treat as I usually have a multi grain / seeded bread.

Felt sad at OH in pain ...sobs

Went to woolies to get a few bits and pieces that aldi don't sell ...saw some sanitary towels on offer 2 for $7, so as a house of 3 ladies I thought ,
    bargain!
They went through the till at $5.10 each and weren't discounted, so I asked the sales assistsnt about them......"what?" The sanitary towels on offer...."the what" , the sanitary towels ...thinking ,I'm sure that's what they call them in Australia too....." the what"......oh I see....shouts through the tanoy for someone from personal care aisle to come to checkout 13.... Checkout 13 now has 4 men in the queue behind me....personal care person comes over and sales assistant holds up the 2 offending packages and says in a loud voice "customer thinks they're on offer at $10 for 2" ,no customer thinks they are $7 for 2...... Much waiting as she comes back, more men join the queue....so it would seem 2 of this kind ( same brand) are $7 and 2 of this kind are $7 ( the exact same blooming brand) but the 2 I'd selected were not $7. I told them it was a ridiculous offer and didn't want it, please refund! " shall I just take them back ?" asked personal care aisle person .....yes! Just take them out my sight and out of the sight of all these men ( who I'm sure have wives and sisters and daughters etc and probably weren't as bothered as I was! )

Home and had lovely soup then an iced finger bun and then this is when the tears came back. OH will be unable to speak after surgery and we were advised by speech therapist to download an app where he can text to talk, a bit like Stephen Hawking's voice. So .....a computerised voice told me that the soup was delicious but he was rather full up and his tummy was sore...this made me cry as this is how we will be communicating for the near future. Everything is getting very real now.

The dog poo-d a pair of black socks! He then did a little dance as I think he obviously felt so much better!

It's Mother's Day here , I'd told kids I didnt want anything other than tidied bedrooms. DD1 had been called in to work as someone was off sick...she bought the last card in the shop...' To someone special....you've been like a mother to me" .....er, I am your mother love! So we laughed about that.

Had a good chat with my sister on the phone, we laughed , we cried, we laughed some more..finished with the iPad telling her goodbye and I love you!

The heating's been on most of the day, it's chilly outside so therefor chilly inside! It's like a blooming laundry with clothes horses all over the place but at least the stuff gets dried quickly.

I took a huge pile of read magazines up to the library, the swap box was empty but is now full so I hope someone gets pleasure from my UK mags,
I know I like it when there's a new pile to choose from. Borrowed a few books. There will be lots of train journeys to and from city over the next month so will hopefully catch up on some reading.

Returned some out of date medications to the pharmacy for them to destroy following on from a conversation with our lovely pharmacist the other day.

And that's been my Sunday, cold and wet for most of the day and a day for staying put . Have a lovely Sunday :)
  • 1) My first beautiful purple iris has opened in the flower bed, they smell lovely too!

    2) walking in the sunshine with my hound this afternoon, was lovely.

    3) the sheer enjoyment of some small people and thier mums who were playing in the playground in the recreation ground when the hound and I walked round it, they were having a whale of a time.

    4) nattering to my OS friends on the various threads I belong to, you're a good bunch.

    5) not having to cook this evening, we're having the other half of the pasta dish I made yesterday, bliss!
