    Congratulations auntie frith!

Hope all is well with your sister and baby is doing well....how exciting!
  • Ah, that's where the taste card came from, I'd forgotten I'd entered that.

Bought a cinnamon candle in a jar this morning, reduced to £2.50 with, apparently 35 hours burn time.

Did an Arsda shop and got £2.91 price guarantee.

Also bought some huge raspberries there. I know they aren't cheap, but they were worth it as a treat.

Made a lovely kind of minniestroney :rotfl: soup. Yum.

Snow day! As in I-am-not-even-trying-to -drive-in-*That*, so hurrah for flexi.

Purple kitten - how do you manage to have leftover bacon? (It's alongside leftover wine?) Hoping lemon & ginger are fending off bleergh. Fingers crossed for intriguing role. Good weekend? Hurrah smart new work shoes - run them in gently so no limping home on day 1? Huzzah job offer!
VickyA - well done getting school into the papers for all the right reasons! Kindles should have modestly priced escapism - as Moorcock rightly points out "Jailers love escapism. What they hate is escape." Yippee Lakeland spree! Champage Why Not absolutely, (if you have it & like it) & very well done 'letting' OH revel in South African latrines. Butter knife & other negotiations will occur from position of strength. With you on waiting for the good films!
sparrer - defenestrating the laptop might damage your garden. Take a power tool to it if you want to really want to terminate it. Didn't need 18 - love your honesty! Idly wonder what would happen if you served dog biscuits to friends & guess only reproach would be from dog... Hurrah DGD1 and family have got house-to-work-on. After all the bedroom work, you'll know what they need most. Extremities crossed for DGD1's biopsy results - may happy tears of relief soon be shed.
DundeeDoll - when the shower needs unblocking the menfolk give me reproachful looks as I'm the only one with hair longer than 4". Soy in filing cabinet - oh good, not just my office then. Delighted the decluttering on hiatus as social life requiring you now. Good luck preparing for India though! "in his mum's Merc" - aw - sounds like a cracking good evening. Rules definitely - Enjoy your food & sleep. After that, liberty hall. Shoot that external... Socks on & off she launches - all the best!
Frith - you survived Parents Evening! And only just the painting - you only get two kneecaps & nearly all Important Phone Calls will either hold or call back. Then you get the calls that do matter. Alas that Uncle Bert will miss grand neice, but very best of luck & steady travels to *all*. Welcome, Niece of Frith! Restful cheers to both mother & daughter, sizeable (virtual) casseroles to all associated households & welcome, welcome, welcome!
villagelife - well done staying well out of office politics. DS1 coming home to wash & eat? Up to a point, well done! Oooh, home made marmelade - Yum! DS1 managed to get back to Uni OK - you have done well there!
ampersand - I love Big Weather from a respectful distance. Ah, real french cuisine & a respect that faisan can be a delight to the eyes not palate. Putahs will go doink of their own will - not your fault! Love to read how much you enjoy your rugby. Delighted to read Thorn retires shortly & emporium comes up trumps for you again. Lunch & bookshopping sound glorious & hurrah Beryl Cook-ish decor came home with you. What friends are for. You voice-spot too? I do love a voice that's as good as a fingerprint. Must follow link to 23rd Earl of Leete - sounds my sort of approach to certain matters...
BoP - Falcon & Swan, eh? Hm, *where* to put the money? Fried tatties cooked how before en-panned? (Himself bakes extra spuds when he remembers them fried for breakfast.) Shifting a king size mattress is *definitely* a game for two players. Scrabble? No, Backgammon! So much work at the bar I thought BoPsie'd taken up ballet. Inspired by your enthusiasm, we have learned of a local butcher's pork pie & we are now much the better for it. All good fortune gaze upon interviews, and respect proper spit & polish! IE10? Play nice!
judi - welcome! All, friends-of-& bien sur, but all are welcome here. Hurrah for a Nice Boss - an endangered species so cherish while you have. Trampolines fun? Very well done coping with big commercial shopping centre. Coffee, bed, chef & his mate - all sounds very cosy. <innocent expression> Eco boiler already in & working - now that's *very* well timed. DS finally uses hanger?! Mine still won't. (They can & do iron though.) Clean sheets with lavender? <swoon>
Broomstick - hurrah for enjoying stars - & hope flowering rosemary survives! Food, necessary things, mobile & fuel tanks all topped up - now not only NSW possible but also snow.
Skint yet Again - so sorry DNeice has work hassle but glad she has you & agency on her side. I like hail, from withindoors, too.
greywitch - steering fluid escaped? Eep - cars are Heavy without it. Oooh - snowdrops! Hurrah part arrived - may it go on first time & affordably. Happy birthday for tomorrow DS!
mhagster - hurrah for friends & parrots & lovely texts & the edit function. Hope feet recovering. Glad trashy magazines gone but more so that no longer on international education tariff. Sweet peas! From under thick duvet of snow, they're just a dream here. Hurrah on licence & relative peace for 10 years! All the best with massive catering job - would trust you with firstborn's wedding! Spooked by possums in the dark? Then roasted thoroughly before watering the veg.
mcculloch - observing family in Diplomatic, they shine bright but die young. Share your love of snow light - have suggested to son-who-enjoys-cleaning that he might want to give the bathroom tiles & glass a go as the light is exactly right to enjoy the results. Chickpeas where no beans? Hurrah - must try that on inadvertent acquisition. Not having to skate on ice - right with you on that pleasure! Love the sound of 'Tips from your nana' - share one or two?! "a gentler, politer age" should be shared & taught! Love the idea that there is a time & place to rejoice in Not Decluttering & right here is definitely one when the right washer is to hand when needed.
mandaguin - Fantasia is just *brilliantly* odd for a childrens film. Goulash? <blinks at wikipedia> yes I can see how that would be a household favourite! Yum!
marmite - good to see you agan & ma foi, what a lot of sorting & cleaning & decluttering - well done! Come here for a rest! Planning to be at the pool Every Day? I only managed that one summer term at school (but an outdoor pool).
kittikins - well done on a good week & enjoy a good weekend!
bagpuss - arm knitting? <googles> Ah! That would be *very* chunky yarn? Looks like fun!
supersaver - glad you've come back to enjoy the five a day - excellent news on new job & part of degree & not having to cope with town traffic! Taste card great fun, maybe more so if you forget entering for it?

OS Pleasures in the last week
Free ticket to see Neil Gaiman in Liverpool in March! Planning to take my Kindle & a sharpie, in case he signs things....

"Oright, hen" - what's a Borders voice doing guiding my baffled feet around Preston station?!

Eavesdropping on grandfather & grandson - clearly great pals & enjoying the unsupervised fun of the train - all clearly new & fun to one & rendered freshly delightful thus to t'other.

Love the idea of #ThisGirlDoes but the advert has me a bit uneasy. That said, I really hope I'm in a minority & others are inspired to get into exercise.

Son thought lubricant gel advert was for a deodorant.... Family weak with laughter at sound (a horrified urgle) of penny dropping.

Cuddled up with youngest son watching new Top Gear trailer (in Lego!) as it may be Saturday, but it's a snow day & so we're just having fun rather than Doing Things.

Himself grousing Kerrang has an Asda advert - it is "not the sort of ad" he wants to hear on that station! Rated a only slightly unsympathetic grin - amidst our cheerful noisy somewhat-incorrect background, I too can do without cleaning products being hawked.

Kondo'ed/samosa'ed *every* plastic bag in the boiler cupboard - now down to 2 bags of bags-for-life & "disposables". This folding lark is addictive and virtuous! (And by working on the floor, I got a load of stretches & bends added. I *may* notice tomorrow!) [Himself did - doesn't like a smaosa'ed bag as can't open it for rubbish one handed...]

An NSD despite a pretty solid list of additional uniform items & house resupplies. It's started snowing & Himself has "a bad feeling". What is not to love about a good store cupboard?

Mother & sister being themselves. Lots. "Not my monkeys, not my circus" I mutter.
"Ah", disagrees Himself, "but you think therefore they are...." He's right, too.

    Clean bed linens!

Saw a photo of a Border Collie pup - just crooned over photo - caught at alert but not moving.

Snow day closed school early so we're all home together early & colleague in office had grace to text "envy you!". Sweetie!

Eavesdropping on father & son bonding over lathe. "Ah!" & "oooh!" simultaneously meant Learning Point for both. Hoping we're out of range of surprises.

Snickering that Kondo-ing *is* infectious, up to a point. Sister has samosa'ed her scarf collection, but is a semi-pro declutter-er Anyway. Sons so far, still in own orbits, unaffected by pull of tidiness.

Family diving in & out of jar of h.m. mango chutney like swifts! Very gratifying.

Dutifully applying MSE methods to about-to-renew car insurance, *just* as weekly email has it as part of 1 day financial makeover. Making some sites very slow but saving serous money!

Youngest delighted by strange throwing star of paper that, when correctly tugged, opens into glorious circle & equally symmetrically can be pushed back together into star. Must sort an origami night at Scouts while that talent still with us!

Great big hugs to all who need them, love warmth & sleep likewise & if you must travel, do so carefully in the ongoing Weather!

Vicky how was your coconut cake? I emailed myself the recipe as thought I might use it at work.

The coconut cake went down very well, thank you. A few people said it was their favourite, and I didn't force them to say it! :rotfl:

ampersand - I tut and mutter my way around most shops. :D As for when I'm at the rugby, I'm the unofficial head coach. ;)

    Auntie Frith - :j :j

DigForVictory - snow day? With us it looked as though someone had a mild case of dandruff! Not much snow here. All gone now. :(

    Pleasures for today:

    1) NSD :j :j

    2) Chicken stir fry for supper. It was delicious, even if I do say so myself. ;)

    3) Catching up with a colleague. Even though we work next to each other, we normally have children demanding our time! :D Always good to just have a chat.

    4) Found a can of gin & tonic in the fridge which someone had given me as a fun Christmas present. I'm treating myself on a school night! :D

    5) Expenses received for my petrol claim at work. :) Just need to find time to pay it into the bank!

    Thanks, all.

A bit more drama is that we all piled into the hospital merrily to say hello this evening but could not go in as my sister had (several hours after birth) had a large haemorrhage. :-( it was quite a rough birth and she is having a blood transfusion now.

(We did get 30 seconds with her! Baby is lovely. Sister still has pre eclampsia and looks a bit poorly)

DFV hope the snow soon goes, DS is a paramedic in Lancs and I worry enough about him without icy roads! Keep warm and don't venture out unless you have a sled and huskies ;)
Many congratulations Aunty Frith, sending healing vibes to your sister.
ss the cinnamon candle sounds lovely, I prefer spicy scents to flowery ones (which is probably why I like men's body sprays :) )

    1. shredded tax forms from 2003 to 2007
    2. made some chicken and veg soup a couple of days ago, it's so good even Gordon Ramsay wouldn't swear about it! Sort of remembered the recipe so I can, hopefully, replicate it
    3. Bedding blowing on the line, was only just damp when I took it in
    4. Pulled the cooker out to clean, wasn't too bad back there, no cultures growing ;)
    5. Sorted out the linen basket full of bags in the bottom of one of the wardrobes, forced myself to get rid of four, for car booting.

    Sweet dreams :)
