5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Feeling a bit out of sorts here but here are my pleasures over the weekend and for today (thus far).
Weekend
1) 2 lie ins.
2) Painted the new plastering in the boys' room for 5 hours on Saturday. 2 coats done! One more needed plus gloss...
3) Jumped down from chair (was painting the ceiling and the phone rang) and, instead of ending up on the floor on my feet, caught my knee cap in the bunk bed ladder as I went by... Knee is now black but fine, but hip on the opposite side - well, I did wonder if it was fractured. Spent 12 hours lying down afterwards so the pleasures were the radio, internet, Casualty and everything else I could do whilst marooned on the sofa!
4) Nothing is broken. After 12 hours, I could get up and walk around. After 24, I could walk upstairs. All fine now, just feel a bit knocked around.
5) School friend came round last night
Today
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons off to school happily.
3) Off to Worcester to meet my school friend (not the last night school friend!)
4) Charity shops - warm, waterproof trousers for bigger son. Lovely cat basket (with "roof") that one cat refuses to go in the 2nd cat has been attacking since I got home.
5) Popped to National Trust at Croome for a cup of tea.
6) Nice and warm in here now with stove going.
7) All paperwork from new bank account has arrived.
8) Looking forward to the Unbelievable Truth.0 -
Good morning from Tuesday ! There has just been the most glorious sunrise....I am on another day off so of course have woken early.
I had a most pleasant Monday off work ( with of course the usual texts ( first one at 8.10am and calls from work colleagues!)
Loads of washing done and all ironed and ....ahem ...not quite put away!
Nice dog walks.
Took pile of trashy mags up to library swap box, I flicked through a couple but they are so awful I couldn't read anymore! " a royal insider said this", " a close family friend said that" usually something quite horrible. Nah! anyway! I hope someone who does like that kind of thing gets some enjoyment!
Popped into Salvos and my teaset was sold on Saturday and a very nice person bought it , the relevance of her being a dentist was lost on me but that's what I was told! They got $180 for it and I'm delighted for them.better it is used / admired by someone who wants it than languishing in a cardboard box in a cupboard.
Went for lunch with DD1 and she paid half ( later!) , not quite sure we needed the Mars bar cake for pud but it was mighty fine! University place offers came out yesterday so she has accepted her first place offer....we still need to pay up front but at least it's not international fees anymore.
#foreverskint
Did a bit in the garden, watered the veggie patches, trimmed some plants back, picked a tiny posy of sweet peas.
Watched call the midwife, casualty and last tango. Not all at once but usually with an iron in one hand!
Had a very tasty macaroni cheese with some bacon on top for tea.
That's me, shall get up and take dog out and maybe a quick phone call to the land of snow.....aka home!0 -
Land of hwb[doubles ce soir]is &squat main thought right now. Nippy-nips tonight.

1. Lunch was lovely @ Cafroozh. Sod it moment- &added bouteille de fizz. & and friend in fine form.
2. ...which became ever finer. Confit de canard was 'lish.
3. 4hr lunch of this kind is exactly the right length and happy intercourse was had between various diners. We all expressed views on news item I'd heard, printed for friend's Amused Disbelief: - mother billing other parent for child's party no-show. Whole thing is ridiculous and OOC, especially nature of 'event', which sounds adult-competitive status wannabel. Been to any kiddie birthdays like this lately? Want to go? Nor did we. 'The State of Modern Manners' as it's just been subbed on World Service, which & has been returning to of late.
Not far from there to this:

4. Unfortunately, we'd noticed Closing Down book shop sale, 70% off, several doors back. Needed verification: disappointing, very. But of course The Haunted Bookshop was consolingly near, en route to G.David's Antiquarian Booksellers, where friend 'needed' to go. We remembered this happening same occasion last year....oh, well, only 19 No More Books between us, of which & - AMAZINGLY - scores but 3!!!
5. ...but, next door in CCA, where lovely bookbinding course was, riffed their beyond-crimbo sale, with proper rtc[below half]. There sat marvellous elliptical cup on offset plate, with rather Beryl Cook-ish Lady decor. Love it. &'s now. Even better, can blame friend for Encouragement [exactly as friend had asked & in reverse re: No More Books.]

Good to see you marmite
judi whatever you think you've done wrong, you haven't, no rules here
mhags congratulations to DD1 for getting her place at uni
Frith sorry you've not been feeling well, hope you, and your hip, are better now
1. Day out with friends yesterday, freezing cold but a clear blue sky with puffball clouds and yellow thing throughout. Super company, super food, lots of laughter - a perfect way to spend a Sunday
2. Meals today were just some fruit and a bowl of hm chicken soup, I ate so much yesterday thanks to an excellent cook and a table groaning with dishes, it was a wonder I could manage anything!
3. Heard this morning that DGD1 and family have managed to secure the house which fell through before Christmas, and at a very reasonable price as it needs some renovation.
4. Photographs sorting finished, there are now 5 albums instead of the original 13. Some sent to exOH, some to DS, many shredded, frames either binned or put in car boot box. A huge task well done
5. Yellow thing all day today, again bitterly cold but bright and sunny. Forecast not too good for the coming days but it was lovely to sit with the yt coming in the windows while I had breakfast
Sweet dreams0 -
Can I sneak back in? Been gawn a long time I know, but have thought about you all and your five a day.
I have just started the second week in my new job and they are lovely. It's early days but the future looks good and I am feeling more like my old confident self. DD is catching the bus to school with her friend and is enjoying it - and I feel more relaxed not having to tackle the town traffic. I've finished part of my degree, just waiting for the final mark now and enjoying some time off studying before it starts again (hopefully if I've passed)
Sorry to hear of Frith's injury but lovely to read of everything you are all getting up to - including coffee in bed with bald chef!

Ahhh rules shmules - meant to be broken even if they don't exist or I don't understand them - you folks talk in riddles sometimes!!! (but I kind of like it!!!):p
Crazy day in work and home but I'm sure I can find 5!
1. Busy day meant time flew in work - and did get some stuff done!
2. Healthy breakfast (Blueberries, granola, yogurt and honey) in my personal challenge to make healthy food choices (No cake!!! not needed or wanted!!!)
3. Running around with youngsters tonight means no napping in front of Corrie so should sleep tonight!
4. People going above and beyond - Scout dad organised DD3 Scout pack's crime scene and police investigation event - thoroughly enjoyed by Scouts
5. DS finally discovered how a coat hanger works - only to hang up new Cadet uniform (not School uniform - but its a start!)
bed now and hopefully sleep will come easy due to 3!!!
&'s lunch with fizz and friend followed by book shopping - my idea of heaven!!!0 -
Oh ouch, Frith!
1. Tap has held.
2. Enough cash was in account, day before DLA day, to cover the bill for a "free" item I was sent to trial on Amazon. I was billed for it, probably my own fault but possibly not.
Luckily it's unused as it was completely unsuitable - a heated pad for the dogs, well Beth, with a permanent flex and plug, fgs. Walter would have been fried within minutes as the lovely little horror chews everything.
It will be going back in immaculate condition.
3. Managing to stay awake through most of the day, could not sleep last night. I had a snoozette, (copyright Mhags) in the chair between 3 and 4 but rallied in time to make:
4. A sausage casserole that was easy, quick and tasty. No baked beans so used chickpeas and will do again, just sausages, onions, peppers, passata. 2 x tins toms, chopped and not chopped, chickpeas, left over roast sweet and white potatoes, tom. puree, seasonings. Usually lentils go in at some stage if beans not present, but Dr C had bought a huge amount of chickpeas from A!di.
5. £10 voucher for surveys. Umming on spend, or save for sis's b'day in mid March.
6. Not having to skate on ice today and being able to be at home for work. Not crossed the threshold in a few days, will have to on Tues and Wed.
Any FB friends of mine fancy being added to the live music club FB group?
I need two more for 300 members! It was 120 members and a closed, static group when I took it over, pleased with how it has grown, especially as many of those members are active.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Day off number 2
Feel quite relaxed and replenished after 2 days off work....I'm now on for the next 6! ( think of the money Mhags, think of the money)
Quick chat with friend from home.
Had to drive to get my new drivers license .had to drive to somewhere I've never driven before and I was so, so stressy about it, I really do hate driving somewhere new but of course I managed it and felt I've achieved something again!
I was bursting for a wee.....strangely no loos there , so held on until I got home, ran in the house, ran to the first bathroom, closely followed by the dog.....who stole the loo roll! Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp! Luckily DD2 was in and came to my rescue! We had a good laugh about it!
So, should I pay marginally less a year for a 3 year license than for a 10 year one.....my money saving head had a dilemma.....but the thought of having to wait in a busy , loud , confusing environment again in just 3 years put me off....bought the 10 year one! Our bank account has taken such a battering this month with school uniform , medical costs and this license.....thank goodness for payday at end of the week. Need to get back on track.
DD2 and I made brownies this afternoon.
Popped into salvos, they had a 3 for 2 sale on books, so bought 2 new to me cookbooks and a novel, which I have spent all afternoon and early evening reading. Almost finished it. Feels like ages since I've read a book and certainly ages since I've read one in one go.
Righty ho! I'm up early in the morning. I need to be at work for 5.30am as I have a massive catering job, probably our biggest yet, so shall be heading to bed very soon.
Do have a good day and judi I wouldn't worry about any rules / riddles! Just post when you can and whatever takes your fancy....and if you need to post a moan that's okay too!0
