Good evening everyone :hello:
Today has flown by. Crikey!
1) Coffee with a friend after work. She's just (ie today!!!) been offered a job as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. She's hoping to become a trainee teacher and the school in which she's hoping to get a place has offered her this job to gain experience! Friend paid for my coffee too! :j :j
2) Managed to park in town for FREE on the street. Almost unheard of, especially whilst the shops are open!
3) HM chilli con carne for supper. yum!
4) Picked up a charity bag to fill with clothes for the clothes bank in my school's car park. Half the proceeds from the bank go to the Salvation Army, with the other half going to school. Win, win!
5) Flicking through the Lakeland catalogue. My brother gave me Lakeland vouchers for Christmas and they're burning a hole in my purse.

Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep despite mouse that has walked round the trap!
2) Sons had a good day at school.
3) Eyebrows threaded, thank goodness. I'm sure the energy put into growing such whoppers could be spent better elsewhere! Thicker hair? Stronger nails?
4) Bought bigger son a tiny coffee pot (TK Maxx) so he made one cup of coffee on the electric cooker then one on the top of the woodburning stove. It's like camping in the living room!
5) Popped to B and Q for LED light bulbs so finally there is a working bulb in every light fitting.
6) Sons finished Christmas thank you cards.
7) Cleaned downstairs and steam mopped the floors.
8) Sister phoned and a complete turn round at the hospital and she is no longer having a c section! So we only need to wait another 3 weeks (or 4. Of if like mine, just another 5 weeks......)
9) Bigger son in a very jolly mood this evening. Perhaps it was the coffee (though I always get him decaff). We watched Holby City together.
Hopefully off into town tomorrow to see school friend. A few admin type jobs to do there including changing bigger son's account to one with 6% interest (thanks, Martin!)
ETA - I have now been a single parent for exactly 10 years!0 -
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow BoP
mhags Wanted down under is a favourite of mine, but I admit to being a little bit critical of those who want to stay in UK!
Only because of the weather though, I couldn't manage the 8-legged things because I'm phobic about them.
1. De-cluttering, got rid of several items to the cs and bin, and some old odds and ends of food which I had for lunch/dinner
2. Looked into swimming lessons at the local pool, I can just about afford a lesson a week so I'll be able to swim in the sea with my friends this year instead of sitting at the waters edge with a book.
3. Laundry done, managed to get it on the line for a couple of hours. Not quite dry but has a lovely fresh air smell.
4. DNeighbour invited me in for a cuppa and some lovely shortbread she was given. Mentioned the swimming lessons and she and her 15 y/o DD, who is regional level, have decided I'm not to spend that sort of money and I'm to look into membership for all of us tomorrow and they will teach me. I can't believe how kind they always are :A. Tried on my never worn cozzie and it fits perfectly, so one less expense.
5. Watched 6 Puppies and Us on 2, as a friend and her Weimaraner were featured. I knew he was a naughty but oh dear, they did show the worst of him. Tomorrow's episode is supposed to be better so will set it to record as I won't be in til later.

A very late 'evening all'
(have been waiting up for DS2 to return home)
Five pleasures for Tuesday:
1. Put onto paper the 7 year plan DSs and I have agreed in theory for our sports club. Huge relief to have some sense of shared goals.
2. Sort of repacked the freezer and made lots more room in it which is a bit of a relief because...
3. ...got my 'buy 3 get 4th box free' free vegbox today and I ordered a few extra bits as well so basically that means an awful lot more food to cook for the meals this week plus lots spare for the freezer. Payment leaves my account tomorrow so am counting today as a NSD.
4. Lovely evening with my parents and they gave DS1 and I supper as well. Lots of listening to them talk about the impact of WW2 on their education and the limitations the war and post-war had on their choices. Very moving.
5. Toasty fire and marmite rice cakes before bed.
Sweet dreams

Hi, my first post here.
Five for yesterday:
1. Friend at work lent me a book to read.
2. Had a walk round town at lunchtime.
3. Took a couple of Christmas presents back to the shop.Got a credit note which lasts a year so could put it towards a present for someone else. Rest of the unwanted gifts will go to charity. Surplus biscuits and chocs will go to DH to work with him, food bank said people had been so generous already they didn't need them.
4. Bought the Radio Times.
5. Home made healthy dinner.O/S weight loss 5.5/120 -
Limply waves hello from the land of great heat. 41o today ....to go down to a low of 27o overnight and ramp up again in the morning . Bit of a storm ish thing going on and it is actually raining at the moment which is very welcome for the veg patch.
I've had a most pleasant day off ( apart from very early phone call from work)
Nice chat with friend.
Returned books to the new look library and borrowed some magazines.
The book I was after was out on hold but I have enough to read anyway.
Then over to post office with nice friendly staff but no UK stamps....all sold out so a letter sent to letter writing friend with a multitude of stamps to make up the postage costs.
Then baker shop and got my free loaf of bread.
Then home and lay on bed ( room was cooler ) I may have had a snoozette but I really didn't mean to!
Then had to hand in forms to new school ...promising I would pay a blooming fortune every 3 months!
Then boss phoned me and I went over to hers for a while....for a purely social visit .....I like her socially , DD2 came with me and we had a pleasant afternoon.
Home to the hot house , one of the tawny frogmouth babies was on a really low branch of the tree so got the closest I have ever been to take some photos . They are so camouflaged .their markings as quite spectacular.
Have a happy Wednesday everyone..nice to see new posters...keep coming and posting ...it's a good habit to make !0 -

mandaguin - Harry Potter? <covet!> Watch *Every* Disney Animated Classic? That sounds loads of fun! Have fun with Michel Thomas - better a little Every Day than lumps. <voice of experience>
VickyA - a very brief Brief Encounter, but a few mementoes. A Cultural Tour of Dubai?! An instance where you may have to ease up on the running. They have strict proprieties. Clean bedlinens a special hedonistic pleasure. Heroes vital & delighted to hear you are counted amongst them! Lakeland vouchers should be spent with reasonable promptness. (Martin's quite strict about vouchers - need any further prompting?!)
Frith - loose connections are maddening. Strength to Uncle & all your family - may he see his greatniece? Love son & cats! Kransekage a classic Danish with marzipan & a New Year traditional foodstuff. Yergle start of BackToSchool. Coffee when camping a special perk. No C section after all? Fingers crossed!
Broomstick - awed at calendar control! Well done DS1 on work & taking hm lunches in. Strange soup should work fine as a curry base, blitzed. Freezer tetris can now break out?!
DundeeDoll - thank you for frog explanation (one a week?! Yikes!) A glow-in-the-dark HP jigsaw - there's a wonder. Epiphany service sounds *wonderful* & how delightful best vacuum via Argonauts & DD2. Found your £128 receipt - hurrah! More jigsaws!
mhagster - Awkward chat diverted, hurrah. Strangeky I got through the entire 'season' (1-31 Dec in my calendar) without devouring a single mince pie. Love the tawny frogmouths I see on Google! Being met by son & pup - awww. Pup has own pool & won't use it so DD2 does?! Still getting lemons from tree! New school, new hole in budget, but happy DD worth it.
sparrer - blinking technology! Have a care in traffic yourself too? Stollen does indeed do remarkable thinsg to the waistline. You visited the garden centre & came away Empty Handed? Something *must* be wrong. Delighted neighbour teaching you to swim rather than expensive lessons!
oceandreamer - welcome & gosh, a daffodil already?!
BoP - "cushion mode" - must remember that phrase. Titfield Thunderbolt just Glorious! All best for Thursday
Purple kitten - SF knee deep in wines (possibly why they have a nuclear research facility there) so cultivate your palate! Laundry does keep on going, doesn't it! All the best with interview.
mcculloch - I must try lebkuchen - the online recipies do not look that hard but I have several drawers of clothes I want to get back into. Choices, choices! Found £12?! Seeing a dreich forecast & being able to smirk a little? A real treat!
Kittikins - it is absolutely OK not to love all your family, even at Christmas. Did the pool help your neck? Restraint techniques - not so hard but the ensuing paperwork?! A gold going out handbag? Sounds loads of fun & a sale bargain too.
Skint yet Again - home made soup & field gun practice & you like my posts?! Agatha Raisin is great fun (I have a special affection for the vicar's wife).
debtfree - welcome back! In the everyday rush it is far too easy to forget the good stuff, especially the OS good stuff, but a good night's sleep is a good start to almost everything! Hurrah famaily still enjoying back to school. (May wear off.)
ampersand - sounds like your YP has the right stuff & you are plonking him where that can be nurtured & developed. Love the idea of impromptu strudel.
Tealady - defrosting the freezer is a variant on Cupboard Surprise - success lies in expectation management (as well as clearing the blighter.)
stargirl - welcome! Credit notes & charitable donations, well done you!
OS Pleasures in the last few days
Daft phone call from sister over ethics of returning chaps underpants - acquired innocently amongst laundry. Bade her return laundered garment with all haste & courtesy.
'Wonders of the Solar System' is good fun but occasional shots have us chorusing "sponge!". Ah well. You can lead a child to astrobiology but you can't make him think.
"That'd be an ace job, breaking out of prisons" - *how* son's face fell when we explained prisons are built to specifications & based on centuries of experience.
"Your mother has a lot to answer for." "I know. I have a list. Mycroft has a file." <snort-whimper-chuckle> (Binge-watching Sherlock.)
The surgeon dissecting a fallen beech tree was very tolerant of my request for a lump once I explained it was for turning. He even lugged a lump of my choice to the car - especially appreciated as I managed to descend the muddy bank fine but "fell, and Bounced!" on the pavement. Dear sons...
Uncovering Christmas treats I had squirrelled some weeks ago is paying New Year dividends - the calendar and assorted beverages have been quietly relocated and my preferred mug of tea is remarkably self-refilling. I'll enjoy every sip while it lasts!
Well & that was a busier than average half hour. Son dropped at Explorer scouts (& subs paid), my three apple trees wassailed & my meters read.
I do have self discipline. I saw a woman carrying a 3' toy Superman & I didn't ask why. Or giggle. Now I'm beset by curiosity.
Oh dear. The sponge comes with a note written in the first person & reading it aloud the lads chortle "he's got a letter from the king of the sponge people!"... Experimental archaeology means it has a future on a stick.
Big hugs to all who need them, health & strength & courage to all faced with demands thereupon & may your sponges stay where you expect them.0
