Pleasures for yesterday (Friday)
1) A lie in.
2) Christmas decorations away!
3) A good tidy up. Completely cleared sons' room because the plasterer was supposed to be coming today.... Then he cancelled because he hadn't realised the builder's yard will stay closed until Monday so I had to put the blind back up!
4) Bigger son went to role playing evening with brother and brother in law.
5) Made a casserole with dumplings for mine and smaller son's tea.
6) Watched Up.
7) Really enjoyed the Last Leg. It's about the only programme that makes me feel sad that it's finished!
Was supposed to be on the allotment all day today but it is absolutely pouring down. :-(0 -
hi all
Welcome new people - hope you stick around.
Chicken - don't you disappear on us again
Kittikins - I have a feeling that DD will grow up to be just as fab as you hope
Pleasures for last few days
1. Nice NYE. Friends came for dinner but didn't spin it out till midnight - which i always find difficult for some reason. cooked simple fare of smoked salmon starter followed by beef in ale casserole. Friend brought chocolate cheesecake with her for pud.
2. Earlier in the day i had to have a filling repaired, which i did without anaesthetic - not a pleasure as such but at least i didn't have a numb gum for the day.
3. Yesterday DD and I went to lunnon town - trains a bit up the spout but not too stressful. i visited a wholefoods market in Piccadilly - i have a thing for wholefood shops
4. we went to see Made in Dagenham at the theatre - part of our christmas pressies. it was FAB! And we got an upgrade on our seat - probably £100 worth of seat that I paid £45 each for
5. Afterwards we went to Cafe Rouge mostly funded with Mr T vouchers. Was lish.
6. OH hadn't been drinking (he was out with mates) so he could pick us up from station.
7. Earlier in the day I had a soak in the bath and watched a documentary on the Carpenters. As much as i like to think I am "Down with the kids" (Glastonbury and so forth), I love that woman's voice
8 Someone offered me a seat on the tube, which is most definitely not a pleasure - but is a bit :rotfl: To be fair, I think it is more that she saw me looking round for a seat after standing a while than that i look especially ancient (hope so anyway)
9. 9 hours sleep last night - my favourite amount - maybe I won't look so much like someone who needs a seat on the tube now
10. let's find a 10th - most of the christmas excess is gone, so back to eschewing. it is a relief.
Have lovely day in this weather most foul - I am taking the dec a decs down. how does that tree go from looking lovely and festive to faintly ridiculous within a couple of days?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
It's weird the way we get excited about putting the Christmas decorations up but then feel relieved when they get packed away.:D
1. It is a dull and damp day but I just stood in the garden and got a few lungfuls of fresh air.
We have a canopy so I didn't get rained on.:p
2. I caught a bit of a documentary about the British Isles which was interesting. Some cute seal pups on there too.
3. Looking forward to Indian food for lunch.
4. I've got a good book to carry on with tonight in bed.
5. NSD.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000
DECLUTTERING 2015 439 ITEMS
“Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.”0 -
DD. ohhhh dear grooan.
Sparrer: Hope you feel a lot better soon, the doc’s have also just given me a course of steroids and a pill to take at night that opens the airways. I haven’t taken the steroids yet as I really don’t want to but I will have to cave and fight the weight again.
1. I’m researching a lot, I’m thinking of booking a week away next winter to San Francisco, I love the researching bit finding out more and more, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by it at the moment so much info.
2. Another very lazy day, it wasn’t supposed be but I seem to have slept a lot when we’ve not been busy but starting to feel a lot better for it.
3. We popped to Lidl for a very careful spend, but they were out of vitals as in literally no milk of any sort – so we will have to do a Mr T visit during the week.
4. I was being careful just started meal planning for the week ahead but DH fancies a take away delivery tonight and justified it with a 50% off pizza code.:rotfl:
5. I did some online window shopping – I’ve found well an entire outfit on sale, lovely long skirt which I am very tempted by as I have a voucher for a tenner off which takes it to a fiver.:o
6. A sneaky one for yesterday evening watched Life of Pi on Amazon films and loved it, had us both in tears thou, a very unexpected pleasure.:o0 -
Technology. Persistently, insistent on electricity. Never saves the file before shutting down. Ah well.
BoP - all started. No Scrabble? BoPsie a tad overhung? Tip trip early - canny mon! Sensational ham... Rightly concealed from Raffles! Hurrah cake, but stocking shenanigans vital... Batton carrots? That woody? (I batton firewood) Sensational pud! Your cake has a reputation? A gift with a plug?<hides> BoPsie flying around house - imagination curled up rocking in a corner. "Virtues the idle will never know" - so enjoy the novelty of lazing?
Purple kitten - sorry about DF, but intrigued by festive fleece ferret hammocks. Costco loads of fun but tricky to keep on budget there. Awkward present wrapped?! Decorating with chocolate coins? Fun! Good times & family get together & candlelit ferrets playing. Long deep sleeps a holiday pleasure. Cosseting with New Years Beef! Love "Freezer Tetris"! If you can get to San Fran, the vineyards are *superb*.
VickyA - Bolshoi met hopes? Excellent! Lucky grandma to get flowers - sure she & her fellow residents will be charmed. Church service & exhausted dog sound splendid and though bother lurgy, leftover beef casserole sounds a path back to health! Free beginners Spanish in time for Madrid trip?!
DundeeDoll - 2nd passport sorted? Candlelit carols, oh my! Sair heid recovered (try ibuprofen? - tags alcohol for immune system) Norwich mate sounds fun! Scottie onesie yet better. Christmas tree napkins! Grand piano? Love leftovers - all the fun, almost no fuss & sometimes unexpected extra flavours. Brie & cranberry sandwiches <drools unbecomingly> Wassailing program? I have apple trees & will research! Pizza & own concert? <awed & impressed!> iPhone & bank card - bless your care for owner! (Um, frogs in sig?) Train nut so playmobil (they did trains too?) Gingerbread village lasted this long?!
Frith - toothbrushes & sis Great with child... Smaller playing out?! Congratulations! Cinema too? Tip and tidy? <Awe> C section - bake for Britain... Christmas service can bemuse the uninitiated. Extending family tree over lunch - awe! Email wonderful - hope tree can grow largely painlessly. Swimming fun, in the dark still more so. Both sons away roleplaying?! Last Leg just glorious.
mhagster - whoo-ee DD2's nails (lovely way to gentle a biter out of the habit!) & yikes mantis. Pup eating blackberries? Sunlight & jacaranda - amazing unChristmas! "However, wherever and with whomever" - beautifully put! Beach & sweet peas? Remarkable. You set yourself timed homework?! Yikes Sunday rush, hurrah DD2 & snoozette sounds excellent. Pup walk into storm less so but all best with uniform. WotAYear! Rousing cheers you've survived it & seemingly thrived (amidst the dips in the rollercoaster.) Ice cream on the beach sounds brilliant! When too hot, spot Haggis. Then evict him. Into his pool? Lucky pup, unlike you with Awkward Interview on horizon.
CCP - watching showjumping from Olympia - bliss! Mincemeat flapjacks? Hm...
Chickenopolis - to my irritation, bashed nerve still sore. Amused tiny terrier using you as ambulatory hwb. Ah, Newkie Brown - reckon the students union ran on that rather than coffee. Steak pie <dribbles> Sunshine & client gifts hurrah!
Lovefullshelves - Buffy fan here too (indeed, most things Wheedon) & phew for friend.
VJsmum - home safe but offspring felled with colds? Unexpected curb on behaviour. "It'll do" vital for sanity during this season! Can't eschew on Christmas Day. Christchurch Meadow usually worth the drive but eep handbag palaver! Exuberant mutt indeed comedy gold! Tree looking undressed thus a little foolish - all in perspectacles. Likewise a fan of KC's voice.
Broomstick - bless you helping your folks shopping - always a kindness. Tree sorted & fire! Lots of wood (apply to occiput if DS1 doesn't learn tact &/or BoP unavailable to teach Humility?) List arrived - bless you! Village church in use & I hope welcoming? Log fire & soup - bliss. Princess Mary tin a kindly gesture in bad times. All luck with shoe glue. A blog of lists?! Freezing coffee (& soup)? Must try! Allergic reaction to start of new year? Eek. *How* do you get offspring into sorting/tidying mood?!
Tealady - hope all yucky reports sorted & that The Season has been gentle on you?
ampersand - hurrah for DAB radio - greedy on juice but radio joy almost Everywhere. Coventry & Adam fan? Me too. Indecisive deer beautiful. Uncle by phone - gleefully sharing every drop & rightly! Delighted your day suited you - as should do! A 2-hwb night? Utterly susp 5/2. A Visiting hwb sounds uplifting. Hail fellow Isambard fan - how *not* admire project manager holding crystal & candlelit dinner for sponsors in tunnel under construction?! Giggling as I watch Abbey squirrels and Hidey Places in my imagination. Prestat up to reputation?! With you Moon has startled stages, huge & bright. I smile at the idea of paddling in lake of tranquility someday. Ergle - must undecorate as fettle lads for school.
greywitch - hoping you've had a merry Christmas, too! Sea wall walk sounds wonderful after Christmas efforts.
sparrer - a lovely family Christmas - so happy for you! With an extra prism of wonder from foster son. Glad you avoided worst weather tho at lack of family time. No sales & no NYRs? Sounds excellent. As does serious onion soup! Drat CI but birthdays to celebrate
Chella - welcome! No interruptions? How?!
115K - welcome! Joy to you, hub & dog-with-socks! Kindle working & clementine-with-leaves a shared delight. My chaps are very "your call, your problem" about decorations but just not bothering seems wrong. Indian food for lunch?
Kittikins - peaceful & happy sounds wondrous! Trapped nerve in neck much less so - hurrah NHS & imminent return to form? Drat memory stick but hurrah Northern Soul! Every smart girl should learn poker - excellent for maths & may in future decades subsidise further education.
Penguins - welcome! All joy turning house into home & best of luck with sales! Ah homemade food from own kitchen - enjoy! Joint works & shared snoozes - pleasures indeed! Sensational new year smells.
Bagpuss - well done son, & hurrah you & DD3 napping past hump! Bolognese futures & Ker-plunk! Hunting Paddingtons? Tick boxes & lists? (I'd take to my bed at the thought!) Posh pate regifted to you, yum! Pack up Christmas, sleep then Uni work?
Villagelife - happy Christmas with not-as-miserable MIL? Well done!
Mcculloch - saw Moir on Sheene - intrigued you may know some of the characters! Right with you on seasonal weight gain, not honestly looking forward to loosing but if it makes pain easier?
FrugalinShropshire - welcome! You knit socks? <awed>
Skint yet again - hurrah happy family Christmas, glad uncle would have approved his send off & very glad snow has not sent you spinning! Roast lamb? Yum! Walk in the rain anyway? (Good waterproofs make it not quite as mad as it sounds.)
Mandaguin - welcome & well done getting three days off in synch!
Daisy - welcome! Lord of the Rings may help with pain management depending on what position you read in?
OS Pleasures before during & after the official Festive Season
"Can you get a book on how to throw things? Shuriken, axes & so on?" I suggest a beanbag first. Get a *very* sceptical look before I explain I'll not encourage throwing axes til I've seen evidence of some hand eye coordination first. Boychicks...
Enquiring minds opine the caramels in the Heroes tub this year are bigger than last year. Given the rate of growth of the lads, I struggle with this idea. Anyone with similar perceptual puzzles?
Lads fighting off colds snuggled up around Longmire. Very sweet to see them recovering thus!
Sent to Carnforth for work & managing expectations - get a photo! Postcard! Phone snap most likely... [bag, postcards, phone snaps - all a cloudy day permitted]
Watching a teenage lad paste on the proper expression as he & toddler sis stroll over to meet friends - she skipping with clearly carefully washed & dried hands, him trying to pull off the cool stroll where seconds before he was chirping encouragement. *So* want to applaud both, but lad would curl up & shrivel.
The whoops & thumps of a tickle fight. It's mostly a lung capacity game, but the gurgling laughter is a treat.
Deliberately left empty stocking & "leftover" items in plain view & took a leisurely tub. I was handed "my" stocking by proud son who had made me my own felt rat, with Santa hat & 2 sorts of felt cheese! He'd also managed to get the Hudl cover in (I *like* Rugby socks - bright, generous & reasonably cheap. Also washable should contents escape or squish.)
Staying well out of the civil war over German gingerbread (some hold that it tastes of Christmas, others that it is vile) whilst removing grounds for debate over marzipan, which I adore & others do not. What Christmas comestible is/was your Must Have?!
I'm not entirely sure just how you achieve a triple chocolate fudge Yule log but I managed to stop after two slices.
Heartwarming sight - teenager tucking washed underclothes over radiators without prompting. Seems dryer is no longer living up to name & he wants clean smallclothes.
Listening to son reviewing the year & finding his highlight was throwing up the pizza after morphine and all-the-cola-you-can-drink. Bless the lad.
The weather forecast (fog and ice) has dictated that today we do thank you letters. Less need for bentwood chair & whip therefore. [Posted a chunk later but written without a row!]
Family watching Top Gear, riveted! Then *vocal* about the poor team & the taped-together vehicles.
Beaming at a friend's observation re computers & mouselessness: "find myself trying to stroke the world into obedience. Himself thinks it's hilarious..."
Husband tweaking child's tail explaining what a refinery is. Sadly child believed unquestioningly about education til the rest of us couldn't keep straight faces.
The adverts for Monkey Life have my chaps foaming at the mouth. Millimetres off camera there is the Bovington tank museum - and exactly where the chaps would rather the cameras were pointed is all too obvious!
There's a charity shop that has a tiny space with tables & chairs & an unshakable faith in the power of a brew. They're right. A cuppa makes a serious difference.
Being hauled through sundry vendors of cheap makeup is *so* not my idea of a good time. However, Himself persisted in search of natural sponge & has finally agreed to a bay of E purchase. Meanwhile some intriguing (& very cheap) fakes have been artistically shredded for "asteroids" for the SF naval battlefield.
Why do heroines go mad in white satin while their confidantes go made in white linen? The dress code (as usual) baffles me. Both are fiends to launder & I thought white silk was bridal fabric - so perhaps the insanity garb makes sense?
That 30% off hotpoint clearance email was brilliantly timed! Drier dead, replacement for better at less than purchase last time. Phew.
Heh. The Christmas savings card has finally run out, on Christmas stuff for 300 & a bit days time. Well, and the Emergency Present cupboard.
"Send them to the camps for re-education" - blimey, the chaps take a strong line on anyone not loving Hobnobs. My suggestion that tolerance (& scoffing the unbeliever's share) is the smarter path is being shouted down. Bedtime, I think.
Surviving equations, correlation & other belated maths homework by the power of google! Very nearly explained simplifying equations with sweets, but resisted opening a so-far leftover tin "just to show you"!
One is getting noisily filthy, two are engrossed in electronic entertainments, one is sneaking illicit chocolate based calories (a little obviously but I've decades more practice) & I'm pausing Sherlock to grin, & luxuriate in being On Holiday. (Still not wholly sold on BC but beginning to see Why The Fuss!)
Watching a program on Customs work & ignoring mutterings "they had flintlock pistols & were on horses when your mother started" (Not quite true, they discontinued the fodder allowance & all flintlocks were someone else's team's work.)
Big hugs to all who need them, potent pain meds, hwbs (Visiting or Resident) &/or ice as called for & may your decorations fit back into the designated storage without fuss!0 -
Thanks for the welcomes all! For today:
1. Finished my planning for the first week back, made much easier by year 11 having mocks all week (4 fewer lessons to plan!)
2. Started marking in an attempt to have a guilt-free weekend without work next week
3. OH has booked for us to go to the Harry Potter studio tour in half term as my birthday presentso excited I had a little cry.
4. Digging in to jelly strawberries from Christmas, sheer bliss.
5. OH is watching a video of a red panda rolling around in snow and giggling heartily to himself, which makes me very happy. Bless him.February Grocery Challenge - £120.63/1500 -
Welcome to new posters :hello: We're pretty [STRIKE]normal[/STRIKE] friendly round here.
Broomstick - thanks for the link to Duolingo. It definitely looks promising.
DigForVictory - was it Carnforth station? Did you have a Brief Encounter?
My pleasures:
1) Day spent with DH. Always lovely and he bought lunch out at a lovely local cafe! Bless him.
2) Finished my planning for next week. Delighted as it means that I can relax tomorrow and not stress that I'm not prepared!
3) More cashback payable from TopCashback.
4) Planning my jaunt to Dubai to see my friend over the February half term. I can feel the warmth now...Have discovered a cultural tour, which might be ideal for me to go on when my friend is at work. (DH is looking forward to a week of peace whilst I'm away!
)
5) DH has *finally* got our Am*zon Prime subscription working on our tv, as opposed to having to be cooped up round the laptop! Hurrha! Watched the first of Ripper Street. Slightly different to what I was expecting - I'm you're "nice gentle story" type person eg Pride & Prejudice - but good. Not quite sure why I was expecting it to be gentle...
Right, time for me to read my book. DH is watching The Hangover and I've seen it once, which was good but enough for me.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Pleasures for today:
1) A bit of a lie in.
2) Proper Sainsburys shop for the first time since before Christmas! Had no bread, no milk :-/ So all organised now.
3) Trip to B and Q too (more later).
4) Spent quite a time standing on a chair trying to fix both the bathroom light (have used candles for a week...) and sons' bedroom light which has a loose connection. Mended sons' light fitting. Mended it again. Still didn't work - the bulb had gone!
Silly obscure bulb in the bathroom had to have its little wires bent to make it fit! OK now.
5) Pie and chips from the van for tea.
6) Bath with my Christmas bath bomb in it.
7) Watching Eddie Izzard now "death by tray it shall be". Also enjoyed Casualty earlier.
Uncle (95 and brother of my grandma) in hospital and not well but he keeps going.0 -
(((((Sparrer)))) look after yourself.
:hello: Welcome Daisy58
Five pleasures for Saturday - it didn't feel at all like Saturday today: half the shops in the village were shut, the roads were clear. Very strange:
1. Went with DS1 for him to run a sports session first thing. Took porridge with blueberries with me and a flask of real coffee. Very good.
2. Did lots of filling in of my 2015 calendar and putting stickers on it. (Makes me feel somewhat in control of things :rotfl:)
3. NSD
4. Watching 'Quartet' on iplayer on the recommendation of my parents. Very sweet film and smashing cast.
5. Lots of stirfry for supper because DS2 went out, gave us no notice of his plans and doesn't seem to be back so DS1 and I shared his portion. (Hope he doesn't return expecting supper)
Sweet dreams
