    Pleasures for yesterday (Wednesday).

    1) Probably a dozen or more phone calls from the builders. I managed to not answer any of them. :-) A friend of mine is acting as my "representative" and their email to her is so threatening I will post it here when all this is over!! The younger builder reminds me of my ex husband when he used to lie - constantly repeating things, talking over other people, getting louder and louder and whining. They have already said they will knock off the extra £300 for "mending the floor" so that is a start....

    2) Went swimming just after 8am (!) Had fun trying to wake my brother up without waking mum and dad (not sure whether mum was going or not). Ended up ringing the doorbell, texting him, trying to phone him... Ended up sneaking round the back of the house and knocking on his bedroom window!

    3) Went into Worcester and took my mum too (she did go swimming). Saw my school friend for a cup of tea.

    4) Did the charity shops at top speed and bought a ring and a necklace. Lovely, M and S necklace for £2 and the shop volunteer said she had donated it herself and we had quite a chat about buying stuff from charity shops and not minding if we did not get a lot of wear out of it because we just donate it back again.

    5) Made 8 more jars of crab apply jelly. Still got another carrier bag of crab apples to go.

    6) Bigger son had an after school detention. A pleasure in one way that school are seeing the difficulty I have making him do homework. They have been nothing less than polite to me in trying to help. I said what did the detention entail and he said he drew a picture and the teacher half way through said "I think it's chocolate time" and shared a box of chocolates with him!!

    7) Very nice pie for tea with roast potatoes, squash from brother's garden and carrots.

Can't remember what happened in the evening so it must have been OK!

Ooo, I might do today's pleasures as sons are busy having a wrestling match upstairs!

    McCulloch - like the review.

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Looks like my annoyance with Scottish Power is paying off and they will refund my overpayments.

    3) Popped to mum and dad's and got given another squash by brother and we collected more chestnuts.

    4) Brushed brother's dog.

    5) Neighbour is going to the tip in a day or so and she will take some of the builder's rubbish with her. Very good of her, considering this includes a toilet!

    6) Put oil and antifreeze in my aged car.

    7) Brother gave me a load of logs for the fire.

    8) Parents have swung into action (they did come and look at the bathroom the other day) and are going to be here when the builders come round... there are benefits to have a dad 6 foot 4, 3 feet wide with scary eye brows and a broken nose. :-D

    9) My friend who emailed and phoned the builders has also swung into action and her mum is coming round to take minutes of the meeting and we have another builder who will describe what they have done wrong. Today I also learned they should have used waterproof stuff (tanking?) behind the tiles where the shower is and they should not have used particle board stuff for the new floor.......

    10) Tasty apple and raspberry crumble for tea.

    11) We went to the allotment and cut off the pumpkins - 5 and all a decent size. Bigger son has carved one already as he will be away for half of half term then we shall be in Paris.

    12) Also popped to Sainsburys after the allotment and a teenage girl came up to bigger son and said "Hello, my friend fancies you" !!!!! We then kept bumping into them and I got dragged away from the self checkouts as she was there!

1-100 The glorious return of Chicken :) (sorry chick, we're all so happy you're back with us!)

101 DD singing all her 'Young Voices' songs to me, nearly word-perfect already! (She listens to the CD a lot....)

102 Had a good meeting with my mentor (deputy head) yesterday and a huge choccy bar and a lovely card from the senior management team today to celebrate the end of my first term :)

103 Have used my prescription exemption card for nearly the last time, to go to the opticians and have discovered I now need glasses for evening distance/driving to rest my eyes a bit, as well as a new prescription for reading glasses :( but for £26, I will have 3 pairs of glasses, so could have been much, much worse!

104 Looking forward to a night out tomorrow night and a sleepover at a colleague's :)

105 Then looking forward to having a night and another sleepover with some very old chums on Saturday night! (Feel like I'm making up for the last few weeks of work, work, work :) )

    1) Fresh eggs from the chooks, poached on HM wheat and rye bread

    2) The smell of beany stew wafting through the warm cosy house as we returned from a chilly walk back from the pub

    3) Opening the pantry door and glancing at the two bottles of homebrew cider MIL gifted us - ready this weekend

    4) Walking DD to school and back, kicking the crunchy leaves as we went

    5) Having a lazy evening (updating my expenses...) in my dressing gown whilst nibbling oatcakes.

...Oh, oh! And a belated pressie arrived from OH - he bought me a wheelbarrow so I can transport chicken poo til my hearts content!!
  • VickyA: wonderful holiday and so well planned, sounds like a lovely temperature over there not too hot.
1.Cheeky one for yesterday: We popped to Mr T for 2 things and to check the reductions, it was daft, as we got there people had crowded around the person who was marking down, grabbing bits as she did them, which I’m not interested in doing, so I looked on the shelves and there were sausages, cooked chicken, raw chicken, lamb shoulder with sauces, and sandwiches all with yellow stickers from 10p to 80p so I gradually got through them all I am afraid but everyone was so busy arguing over the other stuff it was daft. The freezers are heaving so no more rtc shopping for us for a while, some food planning to be done, and got the free can of beans offer from Shoptize.
2.Took lunch into work, and got home from work a little early.
    3. Paid a cheque into the savings account, a nice change:o
    4. The postman bought a competition win.
    5. From the above rtc stash I made a lamb mince chilli for tonight’s tea, hmm I am not convinced I like it thinking of many ways to disguise it completely.
    6. picked up one of the many leftover papers on the train, a mirror so also picked up the Aldi coupon

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Isn't it nice to scroll through the posts and see chicken's sig? It always made me smile, and did so again this evening :)

    1. A quick trip to buy moggie food - they're eating me out of house and home, Finn still stealing food from Frankie and ToppyDog's bowls if he gets the chance. He's very artful, I have to stay with them while they're eating and scoop up the bowls when the others have had enough
    2. Went into Mr M, they've started price matching which, if it works, will save me having to go to the next town for shopping although I'll still make the occasional trip to @ldi as I like their products. (What sad life I lead!)
    3. DD's decorator friend came this afternoon, he's sure he can save the bedroom and bathroom doors but will have to use a soft-sander on them all then repaint them properly. He can't do anything for a couple of weeks but it's just a relief to know I don't have to buy 5 new doors.
    4. Gave a talk this evening at a nearby town, always a pleasure to be invited to let people know what help is out there for them
    5. Got notification that I've won a years supply of dog treats :D

    Sweet dreams :)

Evening all from very hot and humid Melbourne, 33o at 5.40pm and quite uncomfortable....however it does dry your washing quick enough :)

Day off, woke up early as per usual but didn't get up until I heard the dog wake up (chicken we got a chocolate Labrador puppy 4 weeks ago....adorable and a menace !

Phoned my friend back home and had a good chat with her.

Washing after washing put on today all dried but the ironing fairy hasn't arrived yet( chicken DD1 has decided she quite likes ironing and I often find it all done )

Went into next town with DD1, for some reason Medicare who refund some of our medical costs , usually directly into our bank account, sent 2 cheques to DD1 for medical tests she had done recently. So cheques paid into her account and when they clear money will go back in to ours.

Had some lunch with her and bought a new book by Jodi Picoult. I really like her writing style and she is the only author whose book I will pay full price for over here....luckily she only does one a year!

Went to fruit and veg shop and all topped up again, bought parsnips to freeze for Christmas lunch, they are cheap just now but will be expensive and out of season in December but I do like roast parsnips for my Christmas lunch.chicken we won't be going home this Christmas , DD2 and I were home in July for what's probably our last trip for a while. We got permanent residency in July and lose our free annual trip home. I'm okay with that though and feel very settled here now.

Was having a little snoozette when DS and his GF came in ..."I wasn't really sleeping" says me! She is nice but oh so quiet as is my son but it's a bit like pulling teeth trying to have a conversation!

Took dog to vets for his vaccines. He was given a wee treat by the vet after his jag!

Took a big bag of stuff over to salvos. Some cushions, the remainder of clothes from boss that DD2 didn't like, some tops I don't wear anymore and a set of awful mugs we were given by colleague of OHs a few weeks ago. We don't know why he gave them but they're really not me and I'd rather someone who would use them can have them rather than them languishing at the back of a cupboard.

That's been my day off ( with the proverbial call re work as one of the girls who was supposed to be working today and tomorrow has hurt her wrist , so had to deal with that ) chicken I took over as manager of cafe in August and whilst love it most days have been very short staffed and working 50+ hours a week. However once uni finishes in a couple of weeks the rest of the girls will have more availability.

Have a happy Friday one and all. Weathers to be a bit cooler tomorrow which will suit me as I'm back in at work.
  • Yesterday was a good day.

-I finally got round to making a Fochabers gingerbread for a colleague. In a bit of a panic,as I was sure that the baking time was 1 h,at which point I had to go out for an appt. The baking time is actually 1 1/2 h,so I ended up turning the oven and leaving the door shut, which was enough for it to bake properly.

-tasted said cake (just to be sure it's turned out well). It's yummy.

-another gloriously sunny day,but it's noticeably colder.Winter pjs on plus bedsocks.

-had a good swim and a good walk. However,I got the bus to the pool, and had gone out wearing my red leather gloves.I took them off in the bus and had them on my lap. When I got up,I completely forgotten about them,so they fell to the floor.Another passenger said that he saw someone picking them up.
You never know;they might be handed in.
Luckily I have a second pair.

    -an reasonably early night.
