    Hello,

A few pleasures from the weekend:

    1. Free tickets to see the Illegal Eagles, an Eagles tribute band on Saturday. Very good.

    2. Met a fellow OSer at the same event, with her DH, it was good to see her after a long time.

    3. Free tickets to see a musical comedy at our local theatre. Very very funny, it did us the world of good to laugh so much.

    4. Sunny Sunday

    5. DH and DS did wonders around the house, it is taking shape.

    Today's pleasures:

    1. DS finished the floor of the storage cabinet, he did a great job and I am very proud of him.

    2. NSD!

    3. Doing well on my GC, it is making me think of how to optimise food and I am cooking different stuff.

    4. The friendly builder is going to move the pipes outside but does not want any extra money for the materials, said his fee was inclusive of materials.

    5. Was thinking I had to babysit but turned up and remembered I wasn't as she has her DMIL staying. So I visited friends for a catch up, a nice cup of tea and digestives.

    Good night.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

&, what's the Thor Heyerdahl connection - can't find any other refs? I have a very vivid memory of visiting the Kon Tiki museum in Norway as a child... (and the viking ships...) makes me want to do a return visit. Am thinking that his book about the voyage would be a very good one for my Kindle. I must have last read it about forty years ago!

    Five pleasures for Monday:

    1. Lovely clear sky last night with stars and the moon shining through the branches of the trees. Stars again tonight.

    2. And hooty owls too! First time I've heard them at this house but they were making a right din last night - very cheering up that was. :D

    3. Tackled the pots/pans/baking stuff/freezer storage things cupboard. Then emptied, cleaned and repacked the fridge. Then tackled re-organising the recycling. It's all looking very good. Halo is still shining. :)

    4. Had another v. enjoyable long natter with DS1 over supper and afterwards.

    5. Hottie being cuddled on my lap. It had to happen today. The temperature has dropped tonight. At least I'll be toasty in bed shortly.

    Sweet dreams

Broomstick I hope & won't mind - today would have been Thor Heyerdahl's 100th birthday, so the Google search page has a tribute link to him
Caterina I'm a great fan of the Eagles, I'm pleased you enjoyed the tribute group, and free tickets too :)
Skint ooh, stuffed marrow - haven't had that for ages. Pleased you had the yellow thing today, can you send it over tomorrow please?
Frith your boys always make me chuckle with the things they say and do. You should keep them in a notebook to look back on :)

    1. Woke determined to mow the lawn, opened the curtains to see a very wet and windy morning so cleaned the bathroom instead.
    2. Spent an hour grooming the pets, the cats constantly vying for lap space even when they'd both been brushed. Dog was a bit peeved as he's not used to sharing, but he was last so got a bit longer. They're worse than children!
    3. Advertised some bits which I was going to car boot, just want to see them gone now as I'm tired of falling over them. Hopefully they'll be someone's treasure.
    4. Moved all my clothes, books etc into the spare room. I'm going to be very (or more?) confused when I go to get dressed in the morning! Emptied the chests of drawers and gave them a clean ready to give to a young mum moving into her first flat.
    5. Gave a talk at a rehab clinic this evening, seemed to have been well received. One of the clients made a lovely mango and coconut pie for afterwards

    Sweet dreams :)

PK what a lovely greeting from neighbours children
VickyA - what is your signature bake?
Broomstick - butchers block sounds lovely. Hope some of your de cluttering motivation ribs off on me - that is my task for today
Bagpuss - hope you are feeling better
McCulloch - well done on the weight loss. :T it's lovely when yu rediscover clothes that now fit - isn't it?
Marmite - your Sunday sounds like a perfect day to me. Except for finances which bore me ridged. But I have to do similar today
Mhagster - you are lucky, my big boy wouldn't let me make a fuss of him however much I want to.
Ampersand - re the Alan Henning thing. The independent got it right with their front page a day or two ago " don't share the propaganda" :(
Tea lady - ooh champers for £5.99? I am partial to champers.
BoP - phew re Raffles. He does like to put Bopsie through it. Naughty scamp
Frith - :rotfl: at the note.
Skint - you are good, I succumbed and out the heating on yesterday. Decided to let the thermostat decide.
Caterina - glad the house is coming together

    Pleasures for yesterday
1 good walks to and from station ( this is getting like Friths "not a bad sleep":rotfl:). I feel I am getting fitter - doesn't feel as much effort on the home stretch
2 good lecture. Much better than Friday
3 people were giving away free Galaxy bars. I managed to get four (my colleague got 8 ) will hide and give to DS over the week
4 made baked rice with chick peas and raisins. I think I went over my 500 calories though. Although probably not 500 calories plus an hour and a quarters walking worth of calories. Baked rice dish is surprisingly nice and I will have another portion today plus two for the freezer
5 walking in the rain. I don't want rain often but rather enjoy walking in it when it does. Especially this time of year - could smell wood smoke and the birds were giving it some :D

    Have a good day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • For yesterday:

    - went to my Pilates class after missing a few weeks because of a bad cold.

    - went swimming afterwards, which did me the world of good.

-started watching session six of Desperate Housewives.

-got the ironing out of the way.

    Afternoon

VJsmum - The £5.99 champers was for a half bottle in Lidl but thought still good value.

    Pleasures for yesterday,
    1. Seeing the beautiful sunrise yesterday as I was travelling to work. It made it worth while leaving the house whilst still dark as was so lovely. Also got to see the sunset on the way home.
    2. Bought some new pillows and they went through the till £3 cheaper than priced :money:
    3. Having been organised and done all the prep for dinner on Sunday meant I had time to make tonights dinner of beef noodle soup (using left over beef).
    4. Finally posted the horrible work letters off. My boss wanted them hand delivering but OH nearly had a hissing fit at this and banned me so in the post they went. Glad it is off my desk for at least another month but haven't checked the dedicated email yet to see if any nasty emails. Just done it now and nothing yet, phew.
    5. Email for a nice little L'Occitane freebie. I have 2 spare codes for this free gift it any of the regular posters on this thread would like it please PM me with your email address and real world name. You can only pick up from one of their stores and not a concession though.

Hugs to all who need or want one.

    1) Very dramatic storm over night.

    2) NSD.

    3) Office move all over, and I got permission to move to a different desk than the one I was allocated, which is a good thing as it was cold, dark and noisy. :( (Permission to move was granted for confidentiality reasons, as everyone coming into the office would have been able to read the confidential information on my screen / desk, but it was a horrible desk so I'm glad to go for my own sake!)

    4) Work meeting over-ran enough that it wasn't worth going back to the office, so got home a bit earlier than normal.

    5) Super cuddly Isis when I got home.
Back after a very long break!

VJsmum - DH died laughing as I don't have a signature bake, however I did bake a double chocolate loaf from here: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/694633/double-chocolate-loaf-cake It was the first cake I ever baked for cake club!

My pleasures for the last couple of days:

    1) Fantastic cake club last night. Great chats, great cakes and great people.

    2) Spag bol cooked tonight. Massive vat of the bolognese/meat sauce, so I'll be boxing it up for the freezer once it's cooler.

    3) I have a teaching student starting tomorrow! Her other placement fell through, so we're happy to help. She seems more organised than I am, so I've suggested she sorts me out!

    4) Our local Mr T's has - at last - given in and started to sell the "Everyday Value" Branflakes at 88p for 1kg! :j :j

    5) Cake for pudding tonight, which was leftover from last night. Shame! :rotfl:

    Evening all :)

DD, loved your proud mum moments :T

    Five pleasures for Tuesday:

    1. Unexpected rainbow on way into town late afternoon.

    2. Such a clear almost-full moon tonight.

    3. Popped round to my parents with my DSs after our sports session. Very sociable and chatty.

    4. Picked a bunch of the yellow roses from our garden for my mum which I gave her tonight. They smelled lovely - real old-fashioned roses. I think she was really pleased.

    5. Just made another hottie. Am about to put a higher tog duvet on the bed and settle down with a cuppa to watch something on iplayer. Lovely.

    Sweet dreams
