Sitting outside on the porch sofas....DD2 is yakking and I mean yakking....only half listening!

10 hour shift done...I'm over it! Anyway next 2 days are half days so I can cope with that!

Had a lovely Sunday. Was pleasantly warm and we spent most of it out in the garden, I'd bought rtc tomato plants ....10 seedlings for 60cents.( 33p) all they needed was an overnight soak in water. Then went back for some more and got another 10 and 6 cabbage seedlings , so $1.80 for hopefully a decent crop from them.

Our other seedlings are starting to peek through.

Had yummy peanut butter on my weekly slice of toast!

Went pinching lemons for the last time.....until we are better aquainted with new neighbour....who moves in this week. OH was actually up the tree to get the good ones. ( we do have permission to pinch! )

We put out an old but still in good nick bike that was DS's when he was about 8 and then the girls had it so it's been well used. Just left it on the sidewalk and a neighbour who we haven't met came over and asked if they could have it. Glad it will still be used.

A woman came to the door looking for the old owners, was able to give her their address ( after having a good search for it!)

One of the good things about starting work at ridiculously early o'clock is free travel on train before 7am, so saving half the money I spent before.

It's been a beautiful sunny day here...nice to have a bit of warmth in the air.

Right I'm off to water my veg seeds before it gets dark, mozzies are out in full force.

    Have a good day.
ampersand you're very quiet, hope all is well.
  • Good morning.I've been pretty busy recently, and not had a chance to post.
    For the last few days:

-lots and lots of gardening, which I so enjoy.

Apparently someone from the letting agency was here last week, and commented that having all the garden area as a lawn would make for an easier upkeep. There are three areas where a neighbour and I have started to grow veg.I'm often not consistent about weeding etc.,and my neighbour has really let her area go.So,to hopefully avert being told that growing veg is no longer allowed,I've decided that I need to be out there every day,to keep on top of the weeds, and keep in all looking well cared for.I also suggested to my neighbour that I'd happily keep her patch weed free and tidy, and got about half of it done yesterday.

On top of that, the concierge is no longer concierge, which means that the pathways and areas round the bins are badly needing weeded,so I've taken that on too.The letting agency are going to hire a company to do the general upkeep.

I'd be devastated if the letting agency said that I couldn't plant vegetables any more.So while I'm not working,I can easily spare a few hours every day,to keep on top of it all.

I've also planted some perennials,so that we have some more colour and pretty flowers. :)

-I've picked tomatoes, green beans, green chilli peppers, leeks and an aubergine recently.I need to make a veggie stew, soup, find a green chilli relish recipe, and decide what to do with my beetroots.

-a friend got me a large microfibre towel that I'd asked for in a sports shop in France (we live in Switzerland, and there is an eye-watering difference in price between the two countries),as she was heading there to get a bike for herself and her daughter. She wouldn't let me pay for it,so I'm making her a thank you cake, and giving her some of my tomatoes.

-I've cleared up some of the clutter in the flat. It's a work in progress. :o

-we're having sunny, warm days here, with the odd thunderstorm.Hopefully the frost will hold off for a while,as I'm still getting loads of tomatoes.

-I'm over the worst of my cold.Yesterday I was a bit silly in that I stayed out in the garden during a downpour, and got soaked, just so that I could finish up.

-the forecast for the whole week is sunny and warm. :)
  • Just changed drivers at Leicester Forest. Just south is a sided caravan with shredded tyre. Suitcases have remained in caravan.

    happy days

Got a lot of little jobs done today. Here are my pleasures:

    1) Not a bad sleep especially as the alarm was set for going to watch the motor racing on Sunday, not for getting the taxi on weekdays..... So we were woken by the taxi escort man knocking on the door. :-/

    2) Nice text from smaller son's teacher.

    3) Paid for the train tickets to get to London for our Paris trip!

    4) Booked a candlelit tour round the National Trust's Back to Backs. They've had a lot of interest and only had 2 slots left!

    5) Finally the council have paid me back after taking 2 lots of money for bigger son's bus pass.

    6) Put the old bathroom suite and bits of freecycle. What a palaver that was.

    7) Good tidy up and 3 loads of washing done.

    8) Did the ironing including replacing the sticky iron on stuff that holds the hem of my turned up jeans up.

    9) Popped to mum and dad's to borrow their Complete Works of Shakespeare but they couldn't find it! So bigger son had to do his homework from an online edition.

    10) Jack Monroe recipe pasta with courgette and feta for tea.

    1. I have t'internet access at home after what felt like years (ok, was only about 4 days) without it :)

    2. The lovely caf! in the nearest town to me who yesterday hosted me all afternoon whilst I worked and played :)

    3. Booked DD and my dad's trip to HPotter World :)

    4. I've also booked DD and I on a trip to Majorca for our holibubs next year! A single parent holiday, and we're very excited, as it'll be our first trip abroad since la bella Italia.

    5. Taught French this afternoon for the first time and am going to go back to real basics as despite French 'being taught' at my school, none of Y4 know any more than Bonjour...so teaching them about wings, scales and paws for an animal topic may be more than slightly ambitious!!

    6. Had my first formal observation and am very happy with the result :) My mentor was complimentary and gave me really positive, constructive feedback which I can see how to implement in tomorrow's lesson and beyond. Amazing how "requiring improvement" can be seen as a positive thing now, rather than making me want to hang my head in shame. Yippee!

    7. My lovely TA and the one who comes in for maths were so kind and helpful before my observation when I was worrying that I'd be pants.

    8. My cutiepie class, noisy and irritating though they may be - and they lost 5 minutes of golden time and will be sitting in silence for 4 minutes of break tomorrow due to incessant chattering whilst me and other teacher were trying to do a joint lesson this afternoon......

9 - 1000 DD - for her love, her encouragement, and for her looking after me yesterday when I had a horrible sinusy headache and for just being the best thing in my life :):):)

Busy enough shift at work, finished at 1.30pm ....and straight out that door! One of my colleagues who's been on placement for 8 weeks popped in to say hello and she will do some afternoons for me next week! ( yes!)

Met DD1 and we sat outside at our local cafe and had some lunch and a catch up, very pleasant sunshine.

She had a 'dress as your favourite character from a book' 18th party on Saturday , so we got an outfit from smelly op shop that needs a few wee alterations ( and a good wash!)

Much needed appointments made for salon tomorrow and Thursday.

Home and watered all my new seedlings, I can't believe how much the tomato plants have grown already, a good drink and some warm sun obviously did the trick.

Met new next door neighbour over the garden fence, their back door is at the other side of our veg patch.

Moved a few things around to fit the new pups cage in to the kitchen.....apparently DD2 can fit inside it....! Puppy day is on Friday....only 3 sleeps.

We had some take away Chinese food for dinner. OH was home early as he'd had a medical appointment , nice to see him so early. Did a bit in the garden and then he went for food with DD2 and DS helped me move the kitchen furniture.

It was 26o today but with a nice breeze. Warmest day in ages. It was 6o when I went out at 6.30am all wrapped up!

Right I'm off to continue clearing up for a bit. Have a good day :)

    1. Finished undercoating the new-to-me Shaker-style headboard which was pine, soon to be white gloss. Also painted a new-to-me chandelier which was gold/cream, and is now white. Total cost £31, inc sandpaper, paint and brushes, as opposed to over £150 had I bought both new in white.
    2. Wrote some bread and butter letters which I've been putting off for a couple of weeks
    3. Cleaned part of the patio with diluted bleach and Stardrops, they make the rest of the slabs look awful now so will do those today
    4. Collected more cobnuts, almost at the end now but a good swipe at the branches with a broom brings even more raining down. Best to have an umbrella up when you do this!
    5. Filled the boot with bags to take to the local cs and rubbish to take to the tip, and advertised a couple of items for sale

    Have a sunny day :)
  • Morning all. Jumbo organic oats, in boot. Odlins sausages, in boot.

Hutoft beach. Breeze. Yellow. Feel the ozone. More pleasures later. Oh, how's work?

    Mine for yesterday:

    1) Went up to see a cattery where I'm hoping to board Isis while my LL does the repairs to my flat (if he ever does :undecided), and had lots of lovely cuddles from the feline residents while looking round. :)

    2) Then went for a very pleasant walk on Portsdown Hill: despite having lived in its shadow for the past eight years I've never been up there before, but will going back as it's lovely.

    3) Came home in lovely yellow stuff, and so warm I threw all the doors and windows open.

    4) The joint of pork I cooked on Sunday turned out to taste nowhere near as good as it smelled, so I turned some of the leftovers into a spicy rice dish.

    5) Then had a pleasantly lazy evening reading and sipping wine until very late.
Back after a very long break!
