So sorry to read of your mum's passing, Sparrer. Love and hugs to you and your family xx0

Back from sunny Wales
1. Fab drive there and back, no traffic jams, sailed over the bridge both ways, an easy journey from ours, get to M4 go to end, go on a little bit more, turn here and there and down a single track road was...
2. my friend, her children and her mum (for it was her house) waiting for us
3. The children all got on brilliantly, which was a blessed relief as they'd only met for about an hour beforehand!
4. Grandma was lovely - very down to earth, very MS/OS etc, and was McCulloch's dream gal - so many things in her house were passed down from her granny, parents, aunts etc. Lots of gorgeous plates and glasses, and nothing for 'best'. Just the way I like it, I have my eyes on lots of my parents' 'best' stuff....
5. Amazing scenery, beautiful beaches and the sea that made me think of the Caribbean in its warmth and relaxation-giving qualities
6. Cuddling up to DD each night as we shared a bed
7. Having lots of fun each day, exploring beaches, villages, an army base, Pembroke Castle and feeling like we've had a fortnight away rather than just 4 days!
8. Sunshine!!
9. Bakestones or Welsh cakes, just like my great-granny used to make, nomnomnom.
10. Okay, didn't manage to be totally non-carb (see above!) but ate healthily and heartily, thanks to scrummy picnics and hearty dinners, courtesy of Grandma!
11. Billionaire Boy on the way there, Mr Stink on the way back- my car's CD player worked a treatDavid Walliams and Matt whatsisface all the way!
12. Back home to hugs, dinner in the garden, a doggy so excited to see us he didn't know who to go to first!
13. Packing for another trip away tomorrow - going to a teacher conference for NQTs at a posh-looking hotel
14. Read an email from my school that made me happy - I will be let off 6 weeks' worth of outdoor PE teaching from September as they have an external teacher coming in, hoorah!! Just 33 weeks' worth to farm out to someone who wants to do it....any takers?
15. Daddykins' birthday present has arrived through the post.
16. Found out there is a pool at the posh hotel, so am packing my swimsuit. If I can flaunt my flab on the beaches of Pemrokeshire, I can flaunt my flab there as well, and maybe get a teensy bit fitter!
17. DD is going away with my parents tomorrow for another holiday until Friday, so we won't pine away for each other too much (well, I will, but hopefully she'll be too busy teaching them the new card and dominoes games we learned in Wales)
18. It was lovely not having internet/phone access at the house, I occasionally got it whilst out and about but the world didn't stop turning without me reading other people's updates on FB.
19. Have been asked to house/cat-sit for the friend we were away with. They have a gorgeous house not too far from us, and 2 beautiful Bengal cats, so once they've sorted their dates out, we'll go and have fun with the kitties
20. Knowing that I'm going to be sleeping in my own bed tonight, nothing like it0 -
So sorry for your loss, Sparrer. Thank you for telling us - you are such a valued member of this thread. Sounds like mum was sparky almost to the end though, eh
Pleasures for last coupleofdays
DD got home safe despite mahoosive storm in venice
Said storm occurred as we were crossing the lagoon in a boat - such a thrill, like being in a lifeboat in a film
Teasing frightened american woman. her "what's the pilot saying into that radio?" Me "er I think it's m'aidez, m'aidez" :rotfl:
Fantastic meal in venice restaurant. Salmon crusted with sesame and burnt rocket, on a bed of fennel and orange.
Lovely chat with Austrian couple on train out of venice
Beer Keller in Austria last night - like an old fashioned English pub - complete with smoke
Lake bled, stunningI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Just a quick update today:
1) A lie in.
2) Made a list of all the jobs I am going to do whilst boys are at their father's (they're going tomorrow for a week).
3) Went swimming with sons and my school friend.
4) Made a nice shepherds pie for tea.
5) Made melting moments for after tea.
6) In bed now with smaller son and 3rd smallest cat.0 -
Sparrer so sorry to hear about your mother - hugs and prayers to you.
1. Finished DH end of year accounts.
2. NSD
3. Enjoyed watering the garden.
4. Sitting quietly in garden with DH with a glass of wine - enjoying the peace.
5. DS1 emailing from his holiday - he is enjoying himself.0 -
Here's my list for the last couple of days:
A cool breeze for a while;
The company of my DD;
A lovely meal by DH who is a great cook every weekend;
The dishwasher breaking while it's still under warranty;
A lovely home in the countryside, which is particularly quiet at the moment as the neighbours are all away;
Enough money to live comfortably and continue to repay our debts;
Memories of fab holidays and hopes of visiting friends made;
Discovering the car washers come to my new work which will save me a 12 mile round trip;
The strength to get myself out of situations and find new beginnings;
Meeting with an old friend who has been in a similar situation and planning to meet again;
My MSE friends who have supported me too;
Oh and getting paid of course;

Missed posting pleasures last night as iPad juice was running out.
Blimus good to see you back and posting!
Here are mine for last weekend:
1. The tiling of the shower is done! It looks really great.
2. Lovely party for our leaving vicar, nice to see so many people attend, we are not even big churchgoers but he and his family have been so lovely to know.
3. Amazing spread at said party, did not need to cook after stuffing our faces there, just had a bowl of yogurt and nuts (me) and a few ryvitas and hummus (DH) for dinner.
4. Nice bargain purchases at neighbours leaving sale, a metal and wood garden table with 4 chairs for £20- need a lot of work and a few slats replacing but good solid quality, should do us for a few years hopefully once repaired and repainted. And a long hosepipe and reel for allotment, virtually new, for £10.
5. Sticking to planned personal spend budget.Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

hugs to sparrer, and thank you for reminding us of the pink rose candle. I have certainly been very guilty of this is in the past but since joining this thread have been working my way, diligently and luxuriously, through toiletries and candles.
Lovely Sunday. xoh back late Saturday with the boys (2 dogs and d2).
1) nice walk with the dogs and xoh (things are complicated i believe is the phrase)
2) good service despite half the congregation being on holiday
3) got money for dominica using my brand new m&s card which means i get a slightly preferential rate, points for spending on my card and a welcome £5 worth of points. got some us$ as well just to be on the safe side
4) wandered round the pound shops with mum after m&s and bought a slate heart with 'home' written on which is now hanging on my front door where the xmas wreath goes.
5) xoh going great guns with the paint-stripping on the stairs. am now thinking dark varnish for risers and steps would look good (had considered white risers)
6) dyson hose had perished at one end. found instructions on web on how to shorten hose so dyson now fixed at no cost at all
7) new washing machine is fab. hadn't realised how lame the old one had become!
8) cleaned dishwasher using the 1/2 cup vinegar and hottest wash mse method
9) carried on with my declutter and weeding - brown bin already out
10) good night's sleep after the excitement of rugby 7s. DD2 and her BF had gone for the morning session. Very exciting.
Have a good day everyone. hugs again to sparrer xxxMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
