CCP - all rejections are a bit painful, but the upsides do reveal themselves. You also have a Despicable Me enthusiast around? (So easy to shop for!) Home grown blackcurrants (resists urge to peer at gooseberry bushes yet) *and* maple & pecan (husband's favourite vice!) splendid! I'm a short nail-er by choice too, but have the vice of biting them short sometimes. Well done on Uni accom & how prudent use of remaining resources can possibly be naughty bemuses me. Oh botherations, poor Isis & hurrah smashing manager!
BoP - ah, live Scrabble. We really must sort a match with you vs Martin sometime! French indeed invading Yorkshire, along with Sky & tourists... Mushroom curry sounds delicious & deftly hides its vegetarian credentials. I'm told the halftime conflab agreed to go easier on their hosts. Shall join you in turning attention to cricket! On the whole I prefer the live scrabble... That syrup is just Bad News.
VickyA - well done Wombling! I racked up enough Tesco points that way alone to get English Heritage membership - splendid for airing & educating the family by stealth! Recycling clothes & books - well done & I really should try to follow your example! You have a MIL built at the same yard as VJsmum's, I suspect. Onwards with the science (& then licking out the bowl) & delighted DH has range of friends. Well done getting school into local paper - our Deputy struggled - yours has missed a catch!
supersaver - Friday grand thank you! Sad to see a day off go on virtuous things rather than raw fun but so much better to do maintenance than restoration. Bless you cheering on a friend! Congratulations both at weight loss & sorting OD so mindfully. Bake Off club? You'll be fending off parents wanting to join! Crete...
ampersand - intrigued by others' wine-buying techniques. (Bin end enthusiast, myself.) Fresh bedlinens for others? Genrosity herself! Dover sounds a splendid Wombling location! (We do have a sea kale in the incubator!) Unexpected computer noise may be an "animated" bit of webpage that hasn't closed down properly. Disconcerting! Delighted your tip folk are helpful, and lament Nationwide are not. Hope you get armfuls of Using Own Bags points!
marmite - clearly a good day! To master "wrong"-handed writing, wait til main wrist in plaster. My numbers are clear, my letters almost as bad as my usual scrawl, but at about one twentieth the speed. I also swap hands in archery - more bruises (errors in technique) but easier to explain/show/teach.
Frith - sorry to hear you tired & cross & bother the lampshade genie. Pheasant curry sounds superb, & with chips! Blimey, MrN of use & entertainment! Almost panicked at verucca & almost fell off chair with relief at Meccano! delighted to hear allotment thriving & smaller son appears to be starting transition smoothly. Bless you minding 1 y.o. so mother can see medics in greater tranquility!
giddynmg - impressed at your change squirreling capabilities! Splendid to have time with OH, especially to enjoy the roses! You do not need to be outdoorsy - Scouts usually meet in "huts" & the littlest (Beavers, 6-8 yo) May Not Camp Under Canvas so usually pretty comfortable! Talk to folks who scout, & young 'uns! & see if they can persuade you better! Jambalaya sounds delicious. There should be more young gentlemen bringing you chcolates at work!
mcculloch - OU Psychology Society Conference sounds fascinating - glad you enjoyed it! Lovely to see happy horse & delighted owner - hugs to Dr.C after oops on bad bend.
VJSmum - watched bits of Glasto & wondered if I was watching you! Ah yes, Macdonalds & clean loos afterwards. Wonderful what a festival can do to sensibilities! Norway cruise for friend & school just as usual *And* loosing weight - delighted for you! (Low carb? Whatever you are doing sounds delicious as well as effective! 5:2? Fasting?! Braver woman than I!) Hurrah DofE & recovery... Lifeguarding continues? "children actually communicated" - brilliant! A Hard Stare is a handy tool & noone has yet died therefrom. Unlike Doritos.
mhagster - delighted to hear the golden arches are of use. Early morning walks, catch ups, chats, even FaceTime (you digitally supersavvy soul!) & then Church! Barbecue & kelpies - the fun stuff keeps happening! "everyone has had at least one visit" - I salute your organisation! And if a second bag follows you home, well... & has 6 in transit I believe?! There might be a few humourists who will challenge the "Cheery Scottish folk" but I back you to bring out the best in folk!
DD - all the best with the bamboo fence thingies & wow that barbeque sounds so good I can almost smell it! Love Mum watching "Luton"! Gardening & splinters - er, how recent is your tetanus? Band practice is solid brass fun! Well done on all to do list progress & being there for dd2. South Africa *&* Barcelona? Yippee! Hugs to DD2 recovering.
sparrer - hurrah for everything else enjoying your garden, a replete wardrobe & dry Mways. Who is looking after you (cooking, bedlinens)?! (This before gastric virus news - hurrah DNeighbour & family & phew wheels rotating without you there to push)
kittikins - congratulations, teacher! Mandarin incoming & Tour themed lesson? Brilliant! Plymouth ho! May the leg mend & delighted you are paid to plagiarise expert practise! Boys need to twitch, but rocking chairs is a vice. Plymouth? Gin! Well done keeping librarians happy with returned books. So much nicer atmosphere than fines!
villagelife - I only heard about it on the radio but even I was stunned by the football. I'm awed by DS1 tidying his room!
marmite - welcome to the Earl Grey drinkers! It's a lovely brew to come home to, not least as if you've no milk, lemon juice is fine.
OS Pleasures in the last week (time flies!)
Family State Visit going better than hoped. [May have spoken too soon.] [Much. Ah well.]
Locating youngest by locating kite... Cheerful entertainment for the rest of us picknicking & several passing dogwalkers!
Ah, menfolk reciting along with Conan... There are a few cracking good lines in the Barbarian.
Now verily I have seen Everything. M'father judiciously critiquing my glassware for non-pretentious wineglasses...
It is remarkable what a glass of tinto can do to a stressed & anxious mother. (Mine was bemused that I adamantly prefer tea, but she hasn't driven a child to A&E recently.)
M'father plonked a thoughtless hoof on a nasturtium with (I'm assured inadvertent) thoroughness. Two survive...
Cousin has become a Daddy to a smashing baby girl & everyone is filled with benevolence, rewriting Independence Day as a new birthday to be celebrated! Book of Face awash with celebrations - rightly - family can partake as & when suits!
In Costco, Sergeant in desert camo eyeing wipes & then phoning in "what Size of nappy?"... [Aw, later spotted with one box of nappies, three hefty bundles of wipes & a dozen brightly coloured cupcakes. Should sort morale... ]
Lads changing sheets & demeanour now relatives departed back to Southern climes. Ah, character assassination is such a family relief.
Talktalk really *are* easy to negotiate with - got newbie deal (despite being existing client) & should be able to keep computermabob costs down better now!
I could sit and gawk at photos of new baby cousin for hours - the beautiful newly hatched detailed little person, with so many futures. A baby, yes, one of thousands, yes, but unique to us, a new thread in our tapestry.
Food tech "emergency" shopping - mini marshmallows & chocolate beans. I shall stretch the waistband of my diet to try one bite.
Eavesdropping clanger of the week - chatting conservation with a bloke in BASC & colleague asked later if I often discussed underwear in the street?
Colleague retiring - very happy even if about to be "unemployed & homeless" (retired & moving in with girlfriend!) Chuckles as to how long to adapt "about 10 minutes"....
Big hugs to all who need them, sunhats & minions with wateringcans where applicable & travel safe!0 -
1. Line manager spoke to me about problems I am having with the boss and was understanding and appreciated the situation I was in.
2. Rain - no need to water the garden.
3. Lovely bus driver considerate and smiles.
4. Chat with collegue.
5. NSD - bus is free0 -
DFV - many congrats to your cousin on his new arrival.
1) Another very quiet day at work so I had plenty of time to put together a complaint / appeal to the Open University about my result (which is far worse than I'd hoped, largely due to incompetent advice given when I was trying to cope with really bad depression / anxiety a few months ago).
2) Isis isn't completely back to normal yet but seems a bit more like her usual self this evening.
3) Watering the garden, which looks pretty good despite quite a lot of benign neglect.
4) RTC pepperoni pizza for dinner.
5) Before heading out to the pub quiz, hopefully with a walk in the late evening sunshine to get there. :jBack after a very long break!0 -
Pancake Tossing Live
Yous nose, I have not lost my touch. Perfect, and double back flips!0 -
CCP - I hope you get something helpful back from the Open Uni.
villagelife - we really need some rain here!
VJsmum - when my dad had kidney stones, he was symptom free until the day after he had a Chinese take away. (this was the 70s when they were rumoured to contain lots of MSG). He had a takeaway about once a month so eventually realised the link.
Pleasures for today (so far):
1) Not a bad sleep. Had a dream about smaller son's forthcoming operation. Woke up just as he was going under the anaesthetic.
2) Smaller son's school report. Very uplifting reading. Unfortunately it follows the same pro forma as the non-SEN pupils so you have to flick past the ticks in the "well below average" column.
3) Got smaller son's high school tie. His high school used to be a grammar school (has been open for 400 years) and is still a bit pretentious so he's going to be in a college. The three colleges have different ties!
4) Popped round the charity shops and got a steam train documentary for smaller son and Terminator 3 for bigger son. £2.50 Gap jeans for smaller son.
5) Weeded the allotment for an hour. 2 old chaps on there very cheerful and chatty today. Turns out Roy can't cope with the heat either (I'm sick to death of it!)
6) Dug up lovely potatoes. Think I might have been a bit ambitious there. 2 plants gave me about 10 potatoes (we only have them about once a week). Still have 78 plants to dig up!
7) Car was MOTd - cheaply by the local council garage. Failed on many, silly things including one of the indicators not being orange enough. Also needs a wheel bearing looking at and a new tyre. Not bad as it is 20 years old.
8) Bigger son went climbing with my sister and brother in law (he's a climbing teacher). He was doing the safety check and wanted bigger son to do some belaying for him.
9) Tasty tea - gammon, roast pots (allotment ones!), broccoli, carrots, stuffing and gravy.
10) Sons out playing football but hoping to watch Terminator 3 in a bit.0 -
1. Sunshine
2. DD's sports day, chatted to some mummy acquaintances, and daddykins who was there in DD's house colours!
3. DD will be able to go to the local tennis course over the hols, hoorah!
4. Her lovely teacher let me raid the the boxes of books they no longer want at school, and I found a few that will come in handy for my topics.
5. DD gave me an ice pop after sports day, the children were given two and kindly, she gave me the strawberry one:)
6. We went to our favourite library
7. Had a morning's supply at placement school0 -
Talking undies dfv? Reminds me of the what's black and comes out the ground shouting knickers? Crude oil. What's black and comes out the ground shouting underwear? Refined oil
Potatoes sound yummy frith
bop i predicted 0-0 half way through 2nd half with argentina winning on penalties and went to bed.
1) lovely sunny day again
2) lunch with gbf who brought yummy mushroom soup
3) seeing photos of dd2, ds, 2 dogs and a cat enjoying the sun in the back garden
4) pub supper with friend over from poland. She's working with some people on main campus and going home saturday so good to catch up
5) home to the family. Though have discovered ds now too long for his bed!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
25 for 25: 371 / 625
declutter: 173 / 2025
frogs eaten: 100 -
Who's looking after me, DFV? Me, it's what we women do
1. The promised rain didn't arrive
2. Finding fennel tea very soothing thanks to a friends suggestion
3. Mowed the dandelion bed which was once a lawn :undecided
4. Thinned out some of the pots, troughs and planters, now I only have 19. Plus baskets of course
5. Just watching Robbie Coltrane:B-Road Britain in which he's been to two places I've lived and has just driven through one of the airship hangars which are 6 miles away. He's now in Cambridge playing tiddlywinks with some of the students. A super, innocent and very gentle programme to watch.
Sweet dreams0 -
Sparrer, fennel tea is also supposed to be an appetite suppressant.
Frith - I hate those pro forma reports, they don't really tell you anything. I wish I didn't love the heat - I am dreading it Going
DforV - love the character assassination. Just has to be done sometimes. Especially the MiL - I love her really but have to let the frustration out occasionally. Aww congrats on the new baby. They are lovely aren't they? Then they grow to six foot, look down on you and call you a midget (I am 5'7"!!) and say "ta bab" when you give them a drink, or whatever :rotfl: and yours change their own sheets? Astonishing.
Pleasures for yesterday
1 felt generally unwell most of the day. MSG hangover. Made my fast day easy as I didn't really want to eat
2 marking gaffs "Egan wrote the Latham" report. Noooo Egan wrote the Egan report, guess who wrote the Latham reportand "judge John humphreys" instead of Judge Humphrey Lloyd :rotfl:
3 shopping with DD who is 18 next week. Shopping for the birthday party she is having tomorrow - bouncy castle, pass the parcel, jellyand shopping at aldi kitchen event for her imminent departure to uni.
4 soak in the bath
5 raspberries from the garden
