A rather belated welcome White Rose
DD the book sounds like the sort of thing I like reading. History, modern or ancient on most topics, is interesting.
lolarosa wishing your Granddad a steady recovery
Belated happy birthday mcc
BoP pleased Jenny is still behaving, even if Raffles isn't. Poor Mrs B
Kittikins pleased to hear things are going okay atm, nice to have a TA you get on well with. (My DNeighbour is a TA and we get on like a house on fire)
PK sorry you had a tough time at work. Remember, no-one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Well done for standing up for yourself
Vicky I do agree, I hate waste whether it be money, clothes, food or whatever. But have to (try to) be tolerant, we all put different values on things we spend on, and mine is holidays. Can't live without looking forward to seeing new places. Madrid sounds lovely
Frith pleased smaller son has come to the end of SATS. Well done you for doing the postal voting, we don't appreciate the people working hard behind the scenes
mhags wishing all will be well with your DS's results. Sounds like a good haul from the old f&v shop, I know what you mean by going between two shops but if it's the only way to keep the bills down then do it we must
1. Two ns/np days
2. Bought some pork bones for £1 on Wednesday, cooked them in the sc and the meat just fell off. There's enough meat to last at least a week so most is in the freezer
3. Has to be the yellow thing, like most people who don't 'do' winter it makes me feel much happier. And it's lovely to see all the neighbours again while we're all out working in the gardens
4. Booked a third for our holiday, we'll share a room which will be a squeeze but will keep costs down so giving us more spending money. We've all got earplugs, so should sleep okay!
5. Just finished George Orwell's Coming Up For Air, the 34th book on my reading bucket list. Quite heavy going but Orwell writes about his home in the village my DM lives in, 3 miles from Henley.

Evening all and hiya to all the new faces :hello:
I'm still struggling to keep afloat, hence not posting. I keep reminding myself that house moves - even after the event - are supposed to be mega-stressful so there's no wonder things are not feeling very easy right now.
1. I've booked the DSs to make time with me this weekend to blitz some more sorting out and rearranging of downstairs. We've had to rethink a major storage plan for sports kit and it means that nothing has been sorted for weeks. Downstairs is a tip. That will all have changed by Sunday!
2. This evening we got three crates of miscellaneous workshop-type stuff delivered at long last to someone who is doing a final cull on the contents and is then disposing of the dregs. It's a job that's been on the cards for months and so a little more space has now been made in our outbuilding. :T
3. I've started to discover the local footpaths. I didn't get out today, other than to the shops, but I have been making myself walk for 30-60 mins most days and have felt quite adventurous.:D I discovered the old railway line yesterday.
4. There are a huge number of big fat flowers are on the strawberry plants in one of the pots in the garden. I'm really hoping they all turn into edible fruit. Even the flowers are making me hungry to look at them!
5. Lemon curd yoghurt for pudding. I lurve lemon curd yoghurt.
Sweet dreams

Ps. Have just discovered the cocoa. Tonight is definitely a cocoa night!0 -
Quick pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep. Was awake 2.30 because it was so hot but looked out the window and the moon was so bright I could see all the fields stretching away and the Malvern Hills in the distance!
2) Sons off to school happily.
3) More postal vote work.
4) The lady who has been working with me this week recommended a skin cream (as my skin is nearly falling off my legs) and found she had some spare and brought me in a tube!
5) Went on the allotment and planted a row of peas, courgettes, pumpkins and some sweet peas. All looking OK there.
6) Went to the GP with smaller son and he will try and rush through his appointment for an operation.
7) HM chicken nuggets for tea with potato salad and lettuce/tomato salad (also HM).
8) Swimming with sons and my brother which cooled us all down.
9) We went up to look at a massive bees nest my brother has been trying to deal with, in his friend's barn. Rather than kill them, brother tried to get most of the nest and drop it in an empty hive. Then a swarm appeared from somewhere else - there are lots of angry bees up there! It was interesting til smaller son got a bee stuck in his hair then tried to get it out and got stung on the hand.
10) All went to bingo in the village hall and I won some coffee. :-D
11) Off to bed now to listen to the Now Show. Bigger son has already started talking in his sleep. :-)0 -
Thanks for the birthday wishes!
Loved reading all your pleasures.
Vjsmum, I hope your OH does join you on 5:2 as I know that my Dad's snoring was greatly aggravated by extra weight (and his being a qualified nurse too, cobbler's children, do as I say not do as I do, etc etc)
So....
1. Birfday. Flowers, dark luxury chocolate and ersatz Baileys from Dr C., plus various little tasks done. £150 of Am@zon vouchers to spend from various family members. Beautiful top and earrings from sis and friend.
2. Buffet lunch with buddy, and the pleasure of a shared meal with lots of things we love. Loads left over.
3. Bike on the way from Am@zon. Freebie to review. Gulp. Frame looks too small for Dr C. but not for Son I. L. I hope.
4. New learner who has some strong existing Maths skills. Have had a few too many who find it all very, very challenging recently. Tremendously rewarding to see improvement with these, but the work load is literally twenty times as much for the same amount of cash.
5. A most wonderful concert in a neighbouring village (the one where Blair took Bush for lunch, those who know the area.) Finally got to see a band that have eluded me for ages, and they were GREAT. As was support. Smashing atmosphere.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
And as you will notice, yellow yellow yellow. And as I pointed out a few posts back. Happy Days. Offski No to the Salt Mine!
5 Snorkers
4 Bacon
3 Mushrooms
2 Tatties, sunday fresh
1 Kitchen Disaster, wrong tin opened. No SpagYETTI! Was Beans instead. BoPsie is keeping her distance!!
Happy days!0 -
Thank you everyone for your well wishes for my grandad.
1. My grandad is doing just fine in hospital, not getting much sleep as he is being checked on every 15 minutes by his own nurseI'm glad he is receiving good care.
2. Went for a lovely walk/hike with my bf yesterday, lovely view of the North Downs
3. Get to see him again today
4. Sunnyyy! I can't believe how warm it is.
5. Beans on toast and chai tea for breakfast yummy"When I'm rolling in the benjamin's, I will throw you and your dog a bone, good night."0 -

Hippy burpday mcc
Oo i used to love orwell sparrer but have never read that one. We have a newish pub opened on perth road called the george orwell, not tho' at 101 perth road. That aside, when i'm returned from my jaunts i shall buy a copy and sit reading it in the pub, a pint of cider at my side
1) art show last night. Some fab some well um perhaps it's me but... And one exhibit which was a 'room' with the walls covered in letters and a writing bureau in the middle with an invitation to write. So i sat and used the paper and pen provided to write to my dad, stamped with the stamps provided and, as per instructions, added it to the pile in the drawer to post. Was strangely cathartic, and i can say i was part of a piece of art
2) then to drinks venue which i left at 10:30, resisting bus home, 3 chinese, 2 kebab shops and the chippie :A
3) this morning gbf took me shopping. His first trip to l!dl! His photo club homework is a day in the life and i am the chosen one (cos his partner hates having his photo taken)
4) decided to take a day off work so no more chapter written but feel better for it. It's my first day off for 3 weeks!
5) all three dhildren home at various times of the weekend.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Sparrer: The holiday sounds like it will be fun.
Broomstick: Lovely to see you back, sorry the move sounds very stressful, but the garden sounds lovely.
For Friday
I worked from home and got lots done for work and was able to do a few bits in between, what a beautiful day for it.
1.Used up stale rolls by toasting them, and using dressing, and went through the fridge and cupboards to drag a Spanish omelette into the menu for tonight.
2.Some of the hoya seeds seem to be trying, I am really chuffed.
3.I am writing a shopping list and I sorted through the “corner cupboard, I m a little embarrassed, we certainly don’t need tinned things for a long while, we have a lot to use up.
4. One more bin bag of clothes de cluttered.
5. Re filled the bird feeders and water, the woodpeckers got new little ones I am hoping to catch a glimpse of
6. Just enjoyed weeding with animal help while dh shifted soil about to lay a few paving slabs.
It’s a busy Monday at work ahead but there’s a lovely warm weekend between now and then J
For Today
1-5 all within somewhere. We are watching the pennies as there are a lot of outgoings this month, and today is one of those days that “just worked out” We got up early for us at the weekend and went to an early start boot fair, we picked up what I describe as “garage paper hand rolls” a very large pack of 6 to use instead of kitchen roll, a garden broom and dh picked up a whole load of electronic bits. We then made our way to a different localish town and caught the park and ride in. We loitered around charity shops picking up a lovely long purple and black cardigan, and a whole load of 80’s cd’s for 50p each. We stopped in at a butchers which had a whole load of pre chopped up animal quality meats also 50p and some cooking bacon bits for us. A brief stop into wilko’s picked us up a garden arch and then the wooden trellis to go around it for £10 the lot, with that we decided it must be nearly home time to find it was only 2:rotfl:. DH and I promptly burst into hysterics and stopped for a portion of fish and chips.
We pulled into a few places on the way back to explore but kept the wallet tucked up that is until we stopped at a little farm stall place that knows us, I said we needed a half bag of spuds and he winked at me and said have I got what you guys need, you do quirky, he proceeded to produce a 25kg bag that had a few taken out of it that were all bizarre shapes n cover in mud but we don’t care for a couple of quid, then we started shopping as his nursery stock turned up and he had some azalea’s he’d not put out as he said people don’t want to buy them unless they are in full bloom we said we would take them off his hands and again he wouldn’t charge us full price, we picked up some eggs and lettuce which he threatened to charge 20 sqiuid each for lol, needless to say we had a good laugh.
We had some amazing and silly conversations with people we met throughout the day and was generally one of those days that was good for the soul.:):)
We’ve put the aircon and mozzy thing on for 90mins a blissful pleasure:cool:0 -
Yesterday and today....
1. Sunshine!
2. The smell of freshly-cut grass.
3. Having a fun morning with DD today.
4. After shopping to get her some much-needed clothes, we met up with some of my lovely uni friends at a park, and had a picnic
5. I'm "happily" wading through my planning for the week. Blimey, there's tons to do, and that's even with a day out at uni and a trip taking up most of another day....roll on half term!
6. I've got approval to go on a fab Latin/Greek training course, taking one day off schoolJust hope the course hasn't filled up yet!
7. Bought DD some gorgeous pj's. I think she'll be wearing them loads(as well she should at that price!!)
8. I got a star in assembly on Friday (ok, we all did to celebrate SATS ....but, it's nice to feel part of the team!).
9. Was told we can get on yoootube at school, so listened to some fab music on Friday afternoon, whilst marking and getting the books in order for Monday.0 -
Evening all.
Thank you Pk.
mcculloch, belated birthday wishes from me. I had an extra chocolate pudding at supper time in celebration :rotfl: (this could become a habit - whose birthday is next?)
Well today's been quite a bit more positive :T. five pleasures:
1. I replaced my 10(?) year old ostrich feather duster with a beautiful new one. The old one has molted and is moth-eaten and is looking sad and is going to be relegated to clearing cobwebs from the outbuilding and garage until it finally meets its maker.
2. While I was in town getting the new one I bumped into one of my sons' student friends who clearly wanted to stand and natter rather than dash off back to his college room for a nap which had been his intended plan. He seemed genuinely pleased to see me.
3. Got lots of stuff cleared from the hall and kitchen and gone from the house eg off to recycling. Also got the sitting room into a much better state so we can do the big rearrange tomorrow.
4. I got a call while I was out to say a half-plot allotment had become available. We went to see it at tea time and have said a tentative yes. It needs quite a lot of work and I'm not at all sure, especially since I should be out of action all summer and the DSs will have to carry the load, but the people in charge are going to let us have it rent-free until September and see if we can make a start on growing something.
5. I started writing this over an hour ago and got distracted looking at our local Streetbank website (to see if anyone was offering the use of a strimmer!) and have just come across a link to a crowd sourcing map of where people have found wild food in our broad geographic area. It's being added to as people find things. Fantastic idea. House owners with trees on the edge of streets seem to have posted info as well as people finding blackberries, sloes, mushrooms, all kinds of apples etc.
http://fallingfruit.org/ seems to be a global version of the same thing. MSE at its best,:T
Sweet dreams
