5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Safely back from my holiday, which was lovely and full of OS pleasures. Will play catch up here, have 10 days worth of reading, will post mine when I've read yours. Hope all are well.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Rightyo, impossible to mention all but I did enjoy yours.
Now for my collection:
1. A most wonderful break, a hotel that had porter service, full waiter service at table for every breakfast and evening meal course. The starters and puddings were much larger and more imaginative than we normally get with the two other hotel chains that we've used in the past.
This was our first time with this chain and it won't be the last, hopefully. We only had one meal that was just 'o.k.' (lasagna with a mince base that was also used for cottage pie, so was rather uninspiring). We had good fish, salads and meat dishes.
2. The excursions, lovely Cheddar, Bath and Wells, and the joys of my first 99p store on our free day in Weston (we don't have them in my area).
3. The company. Not just my dear friend, but the two ladies on our table, one in her late sixties /early seventies, the other 82. All of us had done a degree as mature students; the conversation was bright, engaging, funny and interesting. Every night we were the last people to leave the dining room as we chatted over our teas and coffees.
4. My arthritis wasn't the greatest (and not helped by over-eating!) but I had a trial run of a rollator, a granny walker, that belonged to another guest. I really got on with it.
Mine, bought half price on the Net once back home, was ordered Thursday and arrived on Saturday.
I couldn't do much shopping whilst away- probably just as well. On our final shopping opportunity I was sat outside a pub in Bath, very happy with free WiFi and a lager shandy.
My friend brought me a present that had me on the verge of tears. Like VJsmum I collect Christmas tree ornaments as holiday souvenirs. The one my friend bought for me is a Victorian angel, with 'Bath 2014' on. I couldn't have chosen better myself.
5. A couple of weeks ago, someone mentioned in a forum that Amazon's top reviewers often get offered extra freebies if they put their email addys in their profiles. I did this, it was duly spotted and oh joy, someone is sending me a book that looks like it will be really useful for work. I would possibly have bought it, but now there is no need.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... 3.Meal planned for the week, it was casserole for tonight.:A
4.Worked hard and got a lot done, just checked the trains when something urgent came in of course.:p
5.Loving the current kindle book and downloaded a freebie:j
6. Popped to our local Lidl as dh wanted a hardware offer, and we picked up a fair few odds and sods, pots that sit each side of the small fence, ohh and thoroughly recommend the green box of nutty liquers they do they really have the wow factor. Tinned toms for a third of what they are at Mr T got to be worth a try.

I’ve got an early start and late finish tomorrow, that was bad planning.:o0 -
Hello Lollarosa, hope you'll keep posting
Welcome back McCulloch, your holiday sounds divine, I like being waited on hand and foot....*sigh*
1. Sunshine
2. Another NSD
3. Lots of cuddles and a kiss.........from one of the boys in my class, cutiepie.
4. More cuddles and kisses from DD, and she even climbed into bed for a cuddle this morning
5. Yummy leftovers for luncheon.
6. Even yummier, a delicious cake in the staffroom!
7. Taught half the day today - woohoo! I was reasonably organised, and have...
8. Done all my marking and 99% of my prep for tomorrow (polishes halo!)
9. Managed to leave school in time to drive up to uni library and drop off a load of books, then get back in time to pick DD up from Brownies. Phew! The traffic gods were smiling on me....the outskirts of the city can be horrendous during rush hour!
10. Didn't get the job....runner up again! But....they really liked me and I am in the running for a KS1 job. However, they have to interview an internal candidate next Monday....so I'll be on tenterhooks until Tuesday evening! Still, better than a blanket rejectionI'm very excited

Sorry you did not get the job, KK, but good luck with the next one.
Sounds like a good holiday, McC, I like all the places you mentioned!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1) Managed to get up early to get smaller son to his pre SATs breakfast at school on time.
2) Bigger son recovered from the moanfest at having to be dropped off at school at 8.20!
3) Went to Worcester to see my friend from college.
4) Went round the charity shops afterwards and got a silk top from Laura Ashley that I am pleased with.
5) Finished another unit of my distance learning course - just one to go!
6) Smaller son said the SATs paper was fine and everyone had finished before the time was up.
7) Made a big pan of soup from the vegetable glut we had after winning at bingo so it had turnip, carrots, a leek, broccoli and spinach in there! Got enough for a flask to take to work tomorrow and 3 bags for the freezer.
8) Heard a lot of laughter outside so looked out to see sons and MrN's son5 on the rope swing, laughing as they stung each other with nettles!! :-/
9) Read smaller son some more of Danny, Champion of the World.
10) Smallest cat has come into season (not heavy enough to be spayed before now) and is being silly by suddenly collapsing as though it's all just too much for her. (Not a medical collapse, a sort of melodramatic collapse!) Vet for her after the 7-10 days is up.0 -
Rather late 'evening all'!
Have been being busy and feeling swamped with the massive amount of stuff that still has to be done. Feels, once again, like all I'm doing is putting out fires and fighting gremlins. Aaagh
But there have been good things going on and so here's five recent pleasures:
1. DS1 managed his overnight trip to mainland Europe and back for a competition at the weekend. I know they are adults but it's such a relief to know my sons are back home safe and sound when they've done big trips away.
2. We have a beautiful, new, working washing machine - gift from my parents - sooo grateful to them. :T
3. I have, at last bought a new pedometer to replace the one I washed and killed a few months back.:D I really must get myself a bit fitter for this summer's op. No excuses. Am going to treat myself to a copy of the parish's footpaths and rights of way map tomorrow so that I can go exploring properly.
4. I have cleared enough of the room that would be a dining room (if the house was being used normally but it is rapidly turning into my office) to actually reach the table and sit at it to type on the computer without falling over things and searching for the floor! This is a seriously major achievement given the mess I am trying to sort out.:T
5. Good chat with a friend on the phone at teatime putting the world to rights.
Note to self: do not drink coffee at midnight you silly thing. I am so awake right now - disaster - I made a cup and drank it without thinking.
Off to find something soporific to do.:D
Sweet dreams

Let’s get ready to Spindle
For those about to rock. This boat has stabilisers. Welcome the Rosa. Pan de moan ium, veg soups, lesson done. Holidays, where are them snaps gals. Lessons learned.
5 Seems BoPsie is all at scratches. Her nerves has bin shot. Now BoP does his best to rub his beard in, but I am afraid it is not enuff. Now I say she is too giddy on her tootses, but I think it is this gal thing. As a ruffian, it is not my nurture to be anything but. But she is starving, apparently. She thinks she is not going to be fed. Also, her word on the crossword this morning is wrong and will be ooooofed when I get home, but she is in jitters. Now, as yous lots nows abouts this, just that BoP is passed his best, but he needs BoPsie. So come on BoPettes and help out.
4 Well, after that, I see some one on here has been tinkering with nitro kegs. Foam beer. That is not aloud any more, got it. Butter comes from cows natural, marge comes from chemical plants, emulsifiers, just like paint. Real ale, wobbleade, is made from hops and brewed. Nitro keg foam beer, aka lager, comes from chemical plants, just like turps! Got it. Now eat some porage.
3 Goshness me. And through the suvvan winda this day, is cloud. And if you want the sun, wait until you BoP is off. And off he is next week.
2 And do not forget, you can get a glint of BoP on Sunday this week, in his blue hat. Live. Details later.
1 That’s all folks
Is not my intent to deny people their wrongs for foamed drinking lager, but to point out the errants amonsgt you I do so at will. If you want bubbles, buy some bubble bath.0 -
1. Sunshine (and luckily the rain came after break and lunchtimes
)
2. Cake!
3. I missed a call from the school....no idea what, but it sounds exciting and intriguing...!
4. DD's best friend's mum (they live in the same village as placement school) emailed me to tell me that 2 of the Y6s have told her I'm really nice and really funny
5. Had a lovely chat with the teachers after school, and got all my marking done, woohoo!0 -
Evening all
BoP - hope that apple pie was as nice as it looked. I might make a rhubarb one tomorrow. I am with you on the beer
DD - what are you writing? well done on the purchase - the dress can be bought later
PK - wow, some sleep. You're right, where is everyone?
Supersaver - lovely homely true OS pleasures
Sparrer - i often do strange things and think i am losing it. I think it's just being busy
Mhags - sausage and meatball casserole sounds nice - or was it just made up to use up? Regrettably it is mostly me that forgets to shut freezer door
Hello Lola rosa - welcome. Hope things go well for your grandad
McCulloch - glad you had good hols. we keep threatening to go to that part of the world. Ooh new christmas tree ornament. I didn't get one on my travels last month as they are hard to come by in Seoul (though i have one) and i have plenty from Amsterdam
Kittikins - boo to being runner up again - you will be the bride one day and not merely the bridesmaid. Fingers crossed
Frith - wishing you strength for SATS week, dreaded exams started for us this week too
Broomstick - blimey coffee at midnight :eek::eek: I can't drink it after 3. Though have just had a lovely decaff
Pleasures for Sunday
1. OH had a hangover - I didn't (mainly cos i didn't drink, but can still be smug)
2. got up late, but it was still very morning
3. but it meant that i could skip breakfast and as it was a starve day i had more calories to play with at tea time. That meant i could have a good thick slice of gammon and a plate of veggies so felt like i'd had a proper meal. That and a bowl of veggie soup for lunch meant that 500 calories seemed like loads. May try the no breakfast thing again.
4. DS survived his DofE, but came home soaked grumpy and starving. They'd had no sleep and hadn't been able to cook due to bad weather. But at least he completed it and is willing to do it again.
5. I'll save it
And for yesterday
1. Got up early to get first train to London. WEnt to visit dad so was in London at 8.30. Had pain au chocolat and cappuccino at favourite Patisserie at st pancras
2. Got 3 dissertations marked on the train
3. Dad was chirpy and has put on a bit of weight
4. my brother cooked a yummy sea food stir fry
5. DS survived his RE exam - it was "alright", very informative son.
And today
1. DD unwell, which isn't a pleasure but no school run is. She has a stinking cold and was sent home yesterday
2. Work was rather fun, and i am potentially going to be the link tutor for Hong kong and Singapore which will see me going there 4 or 5 times a year. OH said to go for it. Keep your fingers crossed for me
3. Pleasant drives to and from work
4. Bacon and stilton salad for tea and leftover chilli from last night for lunch
5. OH is booking holiday hotels in Austria and Slovenia as we speak.
6. I just fixed DS laptop :T it is much faster than mine but he won't let me have it.
Have a good evening allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
VJSmum - Ooo, Austria! Haven't been there in donkey's years.
KK - I wonder what the school wanted.
Broomstick - good news re the new washing machine.
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons to school OK and smaller son survived the Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar SAT (the Spag!)
3) Went on the allotment briefly and watered the stuff in the greenhouse and did some weeding. Lettuces and radishes pretty much ready to eat.
4) Did the postal vote sorting! Nearly 5 hours - I had no idea it would last so long (only 2-3 hours a day last year) so had to leave early to pick up smaller son.
5) Booked new cat in to be "muted".
6) Sent an email to smaller son's doctor so he will be up to speed when we go to see him on Friday.
7) Got things nice and tidy here - weeded the front strip of garden, did washing etc.
8) Tasty tea - cous cous, tomato, pepper, avocado and sliced chicken.
9) Looking forward to watching Mr Drew's School for Boys.0
