5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Quick pleasures for today while it's quiet.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son decided he was going to school after an upset about whether or not he would have to go on a trip.
3) 2 hours on the allotment digging and weeding. One of the hoop bits on my greenhouse had bent as rainwater had collected on the plastic and weighed it down. Fred and another chap had noticed over the weekend and gone in and strengthened it with plastic poles and cable ties!
4) Had a quick race round the charity shops afterwards and found some CDs (2 for £), books (3 for £), a T shirt for smaller son and a necklace for me.
5) Popped down to see mum who got back from Malta this afternoon despite no tube trains and being told completely the wrong trains times back from Heathrow!
6) House is quite neat and tidy.
7) Looking forward to Holby City and perhaps the allotment programme later on iplayer.
8) Finally booked an appointment with the nurse to show her my little finger - have put off for weeks. The top bit is now listing 15 degrees to the left so pretty sure it's a new bit of arthritis for me.0 -
Another pleasure! BARRY CAT IS BACK!! He had been missing 3 months plus and new cat was a replacement.
Each time he reappears, he is a little less tame. :-( Smaller son said, "now he can be muted" :-D0 -
Another. Day, another airport - Schipol today.
Mags, so sorry for the loss of your colleague, what a shocker. Whoever felt guilty about posting pleasures - dont, as mhags says we have to cherish every moment
Sparrer, another good idea at the fish market is instead of taxis, you pay someone to drive your car home for you and they get public transport back. Will only work where there is good transport I guess.
DD - well done on the abstract, I am supposed to have a full paper by May 1st. :rotfl: it's not gonna happen. Perhaps I will submit it for somewhere more exotic than Portsmouth. Sorry CCP
DforV - dyb, do your best, well I never knew that. I saw the memorials for the children but didn't feel it appropriate for me to do the yellow ribbon thing - doing it cos its a thing to do, IYKWIM, like it was a tourist attraction
So for Monday
Slept without Nytol :T woke up naturally at seven and treated myself to a hotel breakfast. Including croissant broken into chocolate fondue:p
It was raining - I have been to Seoul four times and on three of those times it has rained. So I went to Suwon, a smaller city about an hour out of Seoul. Even negotiated a bus, which was a challenge in itself
Suwon is a fortress with a huge mostly intact city wall, a bit like a not so Great Wall of china. Walked round a lot of it till dicky knee said "no more "
Saw two elderly Korean gents sat on a wooden platform on this wall
Quietly playing Chinese checkers. That image will come back to me Every time I see a Checkered board. So serene
Went to a show called "cooking Nanta". Really not my thing usually. Part circus, part stomp, part panto, part kids TV, it was rather fab. Can't believe that was only last night.
Today
Flight good, got 6-7 hours sleep
Watched wolf of Wall Street. Goodness it's saucy - or rather debauched  the minute we touched down at Schipol it finished. Resultio
Got into Amsterdam (mentally I am saying "Emshterdem" like Dutch people do) before 7, it was dead as a dodo. No one around but it was lovely to wander it empty and just sit by the canal looking and listening to the city come alive. A special moment you don't usually get, cos if you go on holiday you stay in the hotel till things are open
Went to the Rijksmuseum, which was one reason I'd chosen Amsterdam. I was there five hours. It was fab
Did a boat trip. Love a boat trip
Went to a wonderful pancake house for lunch, that I have been to before
So here I am, take off at 9.50, land at 10. Gotta love a time difference.
It will be good to be home
Ooh ooh ETA, this was part of a painting in the Rijksmuseum
It shows the Dutch attacking my hometown in 1669, the fire in the foreground is near where my dad lives and the church behind and to the left is the actual church where I was christened and got marriedI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hoorah for the return of Barry!
Quick question - is it 'easy' to learn the ukelele? or should I go back to trying the guitar....?
1. Went to visit a lovely school this morning. The Head was very nice and the two pupils who showed me around were gorgeous, so friendly, polite and keen to show me the great things in the school they're so proud of. I'll definitely be applying there!
2. My placement school emailed me this afternoon to arrange for me to visit before I start on Tuesday - phew! They apparently had no idea I was coming (odd, seeing as uni said it was 'confirmed' with them...ah well, not my problem!)
3. I had to stop to let a handsome peacock go across the road in front of me on my way to uni! Never seen one in that particular village.....we used to have lots in Sussex!
4. Looking forward to the allotment programme and a glass of wine.
5. Fab drama/Shakespeare lesson this afternoon. Looking forward to doing some of the techniques with my new class.
6. Feeling excited, nervous and very relieved that I've organised a new tutor for this placement.....my slightly (ok, rather) irritating tutor for one of my subjects would normally come to visit this school, and was full of "oh, it's a tough school, lots of problems.... but..... you'll be fine, hmmm, you're on a plan?" (sympathetic face).
Spoke to the course leader who was far more upbeat and said that I've done well to get a different tutor, as my new tutor is lovely and will be really helpful! Well, new tutor has been nice so far, even if she too has been a little bit doubtful about the placement.
Grrr....really want someone to be positive for me going to this school, I'm nervous enough as it is!! (Have had a minor panic about it, and worried that certain aspects will be as awful as the last placement, but surely I can't have another horrible teacher?!?)
7. Yummy dinner, mummykins was on ultra top form tonight!
8. Found out from a course mate that one of the jobs we've both gone for won't be shortlisting until next week, so I can stop worrying that they 'obviously' don't want me!0 -
Frith - Barry, great cat name
glad he came back.
1. HM bread
2. reusing old boots in the garden
3. DS let me put my collage in his window
4. NSD #20 today

Is it insane I did all the animal bedding washing last night and hung it out last night so it would dry as I knew I wouldn’t be up early for work lol.:rotfl:
1. I am feeling very positive I haven’t put my CV out yet as I am holding off until the contract completes and we have had a break but the phone has rung 6 times today with recruiters, it helps me feel a bit less scared of the impending unkown.
2. DH is not working now, and is taking a break as we plan on a proper break, bless him he’s got a vast list of diy tasks, and I came into the news that the bits and pieces he needed were available with 75% off in wickes very handy an external switch for the animal light outside was reduced from 11 to 1.75, MSE has definitely become a way of life.:rotfl:
3. DH finished the garden wall, and door we were finishing off now I need to get gardening, that’s Thursday nights job.
4. Just ordered in, very lazyily, BOGOF pizza so one for the freezer, bad but lovely.:o:o
5. I was so stuck into reading my kindle book I was nearly oblivious to the train coming in:o
6. Just printed off the lidls 5 off 35 voucher.
7. Pay is on the smaller side this month, but well worth the break, doing some planning as the car insurance is also due.
8. A few more loads of washing done tonight:)0 -
A lovely break sounds like heaven Purple Kitten. I am so looking forward to bank hols and another few days mid month.
Meantime, back at the ranch ....
1. Helping someone feel a bit better today
2. Playing tennis (well kind of) with dd
3. A learny day
4. A big bowl of ice cream
5. A second big bowl of Cornish ice cream. Yummy yummy in my tummy!
Just got to add no.6. That I am now a money saving stalwart. Definitely better than being a hogwart but I wonder if I get a money award in the post for my efforts (guess that comes from my super savings :-) )
Ooh no. 7 it's a no spend day. I'm not counting my lottery money for work.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

So please to hear Barry came back Frith, hope he stays long enough to be 'muted'
VJsmum the photo's are super - wow, finding the painting of your hometown is amazing! Re getting someone to drive their car home, they must be a very trustworthy people. I had a Dutch care assistant working for me once, she said Emshterdem exactly as you descibed
Congratulations on becoming a stalwart SS :T
PK putting the pet bedding out overnight isn't as insane as a neighbour a few door up who leaves her washing on the line for days, or longer. Neighbour and I have bets on how long it will be hanging there!
LFS it's quite a challenge you've set yourself, do you use A Girl Called Jack's recipes? She's really something the way she's managed her money since losing her job.
Kittikins good news about your new tutor, it sounds very positive
Mhags well done on the budgeting and thank goodness for the bits you take home which must help a lot when you have so much to save for.
1. Had a cuppa with a friend this morning, he suffers from depression so it was good to see him laugh a couple of times
2. Paid a cheque into the bank
3. Found a pair of Peter Storm zip off trousers/shorts in a cs for 99p, and 3 books for 50p
4. made a curry with a turkey drumstick and some wobbly veg, with a tub of curry sauce I found in the freezer
5. 'Planted' some garden lights which were £1 each in the £ shop, bought 6 and had a voucher so only paid £5.
Sweet dreams0 -
Quick dip in. Just had free lunch and I do never want to see another tuna and sweetcorn sandwich. I do not like them, and no ammount of them on a plate, even if it was my meeting, is going to change my mind one full stop iota.
Ah, forget the frying pan, come look at the fire0 -
I love tuna and sweet corn, but prefer my own sandwiches with lots of Mayo and corn. Could you eat it in a pasta salad with scallions and capsicums?
Tired today and flagging but made some babysteps forward.
Had a bean and tuna lunch thingy from jons vest or some such thingy. Was a money off thingy from mr T. Was surprisingly nice. Guessing BoP won't be impressed?
NSD 11 for the month. Not bad for a first try.
Sunny days
My belly may be swelling (can't stop eating just lately) but my debt is shrinking! Therefore increased belly is paid in full.
Lovely chat with Dd and Dh. We are having eggs from our tray of 30 for £3 for tea. :TOSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10
