Do you know, I could have sworn I posted last night? Oh well, I was tired to remember anything anyway.

DforV - Aidan Turner? PHWOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRR.. Yes "line bashing" is just going and covering the track (on a train, obvs! :p) he has a map that he colours in when he's done it. He wants to be a train driver so he might as well get used to it and it's better than staying in with his x box
PK - so sorry you are having work issues. Mine is rather stressful too, but has an end in sight (i.e. marking deadlines)
DD - knitting in the pub? Cool. We often have bizarre conversations along the Monkey / flamingo line
Frith - what's he like? LOL at Vauxhall Viagara
Skint - traffic can be bizarre. Hope DS gets home OK
Broomstick - sorry for your woes also. We are philosophical now about the auditions, next is Cardiff in 10 days
BoP - well done on still being alive :p
CCP - Hope you got some sleep after your blow through the park
Ampersand - So sad but so true that bad things can happen to good people. This threads seems testament to that
Kittikins - not hungover? Sodgy pizza, yeah right! :rotfl:
Sparrer - bedding needs ironing????? Who knew?
Mhagster - it is a long time since I read a book in a day.:(

    Yesterdays pleasures

    1. A disturbed night in the spare room. No, we hadn't had a row! OH was away for the night, whilst DD had 3 friends over for a sleepover in the lounge - which is under our bedroom. Disturbed because the spare room is directly above the downstairs loo - which had four people flushing it till all hours. Goodness it's loud
    2. This isn't a pleasure but a share - DS had his first two matches as referee. Whilst I felt he did OK, he was deeply unhappy at his performance. I think the course he did wasn't long enough and didn't do enough to prepare him. I guess the pleasure is that all managers and most parents were kind. There was one mouthy dad, "oi Ref, what you DOING" kind of stuff, but he shut up when his team started scoring. Bear in mind the match was between 6 year olds!! THe parents' didn't know it was his first match - or that he's only 14 (he is nearly 6' tall and looks older). It is a shame cos it has put him off now. On the upside, he earned £18
    3. The match was preceded by a dash round the retail park as he didn't have a working watch. I could pick up a coffee and there was the first signs of spring around - some green shoots on the bushes, warmth in the sun.
    4. DDs friend cleared up the kitchen, that they'd left in a state. She declined my offer of moving in with us! :D
    5. Went to Alidi and did the shopping. I turned round and realised that I was blocking the aisle and there was an elderly man waiting patiently to get by. I apologised profusely and he just said "no problem, love, I am in no hurry". How nice in this impatient age.
    6. A very low key evening. TV off. I was browsing some drama school stuff - looking at options and opinions. We are exploring one year diploma courses currently.
    7. Ooh, just remembered another. Got a phone call from the manager of one of today's footie teams offering DS to go down to their training session today and referee their match in a safe and easy environment. So kind - but, regrettably, DS took it the wrong way and thinks it's more criticism and won't go :( THe pleasure is the kindness of the manager wanting to help

OK, my red pen has been replaced by an ipad pen, but the marking bus trundles on.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Looks like everyone's out and about today, with no posts since before 9am!

    1) Another lousy night's sleep, but as it's a Sunday it didn't matter quite so much that I didn't manage to doze off properly until it started getting light.

    2) NSD and NPD.

    3) Decided I felt too tired and fed up to do any studying, so I finished my kindle book and made a start on the one I won, which I need to read and review within the next couple of weeks. I can't say it instantly appeals to me, but I'll keep going and hope it grows on me. :undecided

    4) Trying to chat to my DM while Isis was doing her best to distract by playing with anything and everything within reach, and meowing loud enough that my DM could hear her down the phone. :rotfl:

    5) Easy dinner of RM meatloaf tonight (bought on SO, of course), so I'll just need to stick it in the oven and then cook some veg to go with it.

Hope everyone's had a very pleasant Sunday. :)
Back after a very long break!

Aw ccp hope you sleep better tonight
    1) got letter off to solicitor re flat. I am NOT trying to get out of what we legally owe him, he is afer all running a business but i do want to know exactly what has been done so far about getting the rent arrears from the absconder, and since they knew she was going december why they've only just told us and slapped on £39 late payment fees
    2) sunday school was fun though lively. But they eventually settled down and when someone came to collect us everyone was engrossed in their own activities
    3) after the service we had the 2020 vision shared. Ie the vision for where we 'd like to be in 2020. Accompanied by wine / soft drinks.
    4) took mum out for late lunch
    5) then back here for cuppa and discussion on how best to join my knitted squares. Have done 8 /36 so a while to go, but have discovered new knitting shop called fluph who runs a knitting club every other thursday. There is one this thursday which is how i plan to celebrate having done my teaching :-)

    Some for Sat.
1.It’s the weekend and it was beautiful weather today.
2.This is a bit random, the neighbours have made it obvious they will never be replacing their fence and we need our garden to be animal safe so plan b, we went out today to a man who knew another man and ordered concrete bits and pieces, which are being delivered Friday. And DH is going to build our own fence our side but only about 3ft tall making it We can’t build another fence but we can make it animal proof, keeping ours in. and the bit of that is ours the other side gives me a chance to plant trees and shrubs, to build up some privacy and I fancy our own fruit maybe apple tree and raspberry shrub but I don’t know anything about them so looking into it.
    3. DH and I continuing planning the highlands camping sabbatical
    For Sunday.
1.No rush to get up, and when we did we had a grilled bacon sarnie.
2.I don’t have any luck with freegle no one turned up despite arranging to do so, so everything is going to the tip tomorrow.
3.We spent 2 hours out in the garden, I did the weeding, DH reclaimed the wood from bits and pieces prior to tip run and created a gate, we also started unloading and finding homes for things in our broken shed which DH is taking down tomorrow.
    4. Just made bread pudding with leftovers rather than waste, there’s rather a lot of cinnamon in it after the lid fell off ah well.
    5. Must stop typing and go and make yellow food, HM chicken curry and brown rice, all will be yellow with turmeric. On that note I had better go and do it.
  • Keep going up there, but the gates are closed.

    Quick fires 5

5 DD, We do not need tin pots in the cabinet.
4 Side on omelette this morning, fries egg bitsers on toast!
    3 Chicken tikka for tea
2 Nite playing scrabble, drinking cocoa. Proper version, Born Vill type.
    1 Call early, leave late

    Good evening everyone :hello:

Just had two lovely days in London with DH. Not amazingly OS, but we got a great deal on a 5* hotel via https://www.lastminute.com which was far cheaper than the Premier Inn across the street. We had so many vouchers that we actually did quite well. :D

So, my pleasures cover today & the last few days:

    1) Hotel booked on lastminute.com, via TopCashback! :D £14 cashback pending :j :j

    2) Another £2.15 has become payable on TopCashback. Transferred into my savings.

    3) Bought cards via Moonpig for friends (a couple) who celebrate their 40th birthdays within a day of each other. :)

    4) DH is attacking the ironing pile. Bless him. Suspect I'll be taking over soon...

    5) Lovely, clean sheets on the bed. Mmmmmmm. What a treat.

    6) Pasta and sauce for supper this evening. Yum.

    Night all. xx

  • Frith - loving the "Vauxhall Viagras" & hoping general health is returning in time to enjoy D&D!
mhagster - I do admire managing to get out to dinner a deux, & *marvel* at sending the lassies shopping, to find they come back still speaking & laden with splendid bargains!
VJsmum - yes, Aidan's the lad they just didn't recognise - must see when I can get them to the opticians! Trying to sleep anywhere near the sleepover loo?! So sorry son struggled with parents while refereeing - and when you find a course than can put an old head on young shoulders, I'll sign my three up forthwith! May he find £9 a time is worth the study.
CCP - I do hope sleep returns. A (relatively) quiet Sunday sounds wonderful...
DD - dead right to pin down the landlord re the absconder. Why you should shoulder the debt for his mismanagement I will be interested to read. Have fun with the knitting!
Purple kitten - spend the lottery money on bulbs. They come up every year & bring reliable delight. As will an apple tree given time - all the best with your researches.
BoP - bourneville cocoa? Kay-lie or however it's pronounced by the skull&crossbones canned sailors?
VickyA - well done that man ironing! (Not another who irons bedding?!)

    OS Pleasures
Definitely Colne Valley Museum. Reenactors (military, Napoleonic), properly dressed volunteers knowledgeably showing & explaining drop & wheel spinning, weaving & clog making. Plus havercakes prepared before your very eyes (with full have a bite permission) & an introduction to dripping (youngest now besotted). Best £2.50 per adult we've spent in Years!

Photographing lanterns, candle holders, cooking tins etc for American tinsmith friends. They're amazed we remember, photo with rulers & get close-ups of hinges, catches & seams... But we have *lots* of tin lanterns - their American ones are all museum relics, white gloved researchers only.

Hearing from yesterday's colonoscopy enduring friend that it wasn't as bad as she'd feared (medics found nothing) & that her husband has developed an alarming enthusiasm for good old fashioned consomm!!

Observing from posts on book of face that pal with Noro in the house maintains a robust sense of humour.

Lads leaping into shower like salmon going upriver as part of "staying up" to watch Musketeers! Which I shall enjoy on iPlayer after a leisurely shower whilst they're engrossed with the TV.

Big hugs to all who need them, sound healing sleep wherever sought & hurrah for volunteers!

    1. Latin club fun and lessons planned :)

    2. No reply from my teacher tutor so looks like my English lessons are good to go - woohoo!

    3. We all sat down and watched Knight's Tale after lunch :) Cue lots of chuckling and singing along to the Queen music!

    4. NSD :) Can't remember how many I've had now...

    5. Watching Bridesmaids....it's soo bad it's good....but will I be able to stay up for another hour?!?

    6. Fresh sheets on my bed, just a few more bits to stick on a memory stick and I'll be heading off there.

    7. DD answered nearly all the crossword clues this afternoon :)

VJsmum, tell your son a fantastic well done from us for his first day of refereeing. :T The adult concerned obviously didn't know what he was talking about because, if he did, he would have realised that sports need referees who need to start somewhere and should be nourished and cherished. The dad was just showing his ignorance of this very basic fact. My oldest (who also started refereeing in his sport as a 14 yr old) applied for a temporary front of house job (as a grown up) a couple of years ago and was asked about his experience of having to be responsible for dealing with difficult customers and his ability to draw on years of coping as a young referee with stroppy parents and coaches stood him in really good stead and he got the job.:D The refereeing isn't just good for the sport, it really does provide all kinds of concrete examples when you get round to job applications: leadership, decision making, taking responsibility when the buck stops with you, enforcing boundaries around rules and regs, coping with crowd control with adults and children, maintaining health and safety... Tell him to stick with it if he can, it's worth it on all counts!

    Five pleasures for Sunday:

    1. Feeling much better health-wise.

    2. DS1 made our packed lunches first thing.

    3. Good day's training course with friendly parents :) and happy children.

    4. DS2 and his very nice long-term female friend seem to have decided they are now a couple. :D So pleased.

    5. Ginormous baked potatoes with mackerel and sweet corn for supper.

    Sweet dreams

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Smaller son a lot better -still says it's a bit stingy, though. :-( And he's still got a fat, blue and green finger so I've promised to bandage it up in an over the top way for school so everyone notices it and won't touch it.

    2) A lie in this morning. Smaller son has been sleeping for up to 12 hours at a stretch whilst poorly.

    3) Beans on toast for lunch which was just what we fancied.

    4) Went to the allotment and took my brother for a look round. Have just ordered an Ebay little polytunnel!

    5) Went to brother in law's for tea and to play Dungeons and Dragons.

    6) Got the stuff ready for school tomorrow including freshly washed school bags and polished shoes! That doesn't happen very often.

    7) Nearly forgot - had an answering machine message this morning from the lady who runs my jewellery making class, apologising for not making it last Friday. She will see us all this Friday for our last session. Which suits me very well as I didn't turn up last Friday either as smaller son was ill!
