A short hello from a tired dd who arrived safely in singapore. Brain is mush so will attempt 5 but have had much pleasure in readingyours and feeling connected
1) when colleague was headed to whsmith at the airport to get 2 bottles water for £3 i told her she could get 2 for £2 at boots (and get points on her card)
2) travel was long and tedious but safe and we were well fed and watered by emirates
3) we got given 2 small bottles each wine so saved one each for our 3 hour stop at dubai airport
4) hotel room has extendable washing line so guess who has used the free bubblebath to wash her smalls
5) found a 7/11 so fridge has pint of milk in for my tea. Hotel has kettle and good sized mugs hooray for tea :PMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

1. Made a homemade loaf
2. Avoided supermarkets and went to local butcher for meat
3. Also went to greengrocer for fruit and veg
4. Bought a notebook to hand write all my recipes in (for posterity)
5. Had an afternoon nap!0 -
Afternoon all.
Some pleasures for the weekend:
1) Two NSDs to add to this year's total.
2) Lovely, warm sunshine on Saturday.
3) My sister was allowed out of hospital for a few hours, so got to go home to see her partner and some friends. She sounded utterly worn out afterwards, but very happy.
4) Made a big batch of spicy veg soup for work lunches this week. :money: (Well, it was a pleasure at the time - sadly it seems to have gone off as today's portion tasted rather odd and has left me with stomach ache, so the rest is going in the bin this evening.)
5) Isis with her ball, which never fails to make me laugh. (Raffles - Isis is fine, thank you, despite being hit in the head with a door by an idiot owner who, in the dark, couldn't tell the difference between a shadow and a cat.)
ArtDecoGirly - mmm, home-made bread!
DD - glad you arrived safely - get some rest, then you can tell us all about it.
Kittikins - sounds like you had a wonderful time at the school - shame it's (possibly) not the right location for you to go there permanently.
I will be back tomorrow, on my work pooter if not my home one (which is still being scrutinised, apparently :undecided).Back after a very long break!0 -
Good evening all!

Just caught up, busy but will try and gather some.
1. Got maths assessment questions I spent days (weeks!) writing all sent off. Probably worked out at a quarter of the minimum wage rate per hour for the work I did, no exaggeration, but it's done!
2. Cooking quite a large chunk of gammon I bought well before Christmas, an easy meal and lots left over.
3. Freebie of a foaming shower gel in post that was an instant win - a real luxury item and something to treat me on a yucky winter morning.
4. Couriered parcel of yet another guitar arrived for Dr C. this afternoon. I've been staying in to wait for it, not really a hardship as I work from home but I missed the opportunity to cycle on two beautiful sunny winter days.
5. Conference call for work - mine is such an isolated job that it was great to chew the fat with fellow tutors.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
1. Despite the best efforts of very annoying people in the lecture theatre who, between them, talked, laughed, fell asleep, played scrabble on ipads, and were generally VERY ANNOYING to me and my chum, I enjoyed one of my many lectures at uni! (Actually I enjoyed them all, but the last one was hard going due to the idiots!)
2. Watched Sherlock using my headphones on a uni library computer...
3. ...whilst doing some work. You can't keep a Kittikins down, the greater spotted Kittikins is often to be found in the library
4. Celebrated the fact that 2 girls in my tutor group got engaged over the holidays - one is planning her wedding for August this year! Crazy....teacher training and BIG wedding planning! It must be lurve
5. Saw this and thought of DD - she's thinking along these lines already, without me having to badmouth her deadbeat father. http://www.upworthy.com/watch-this-guy-misspell-father-at-a-spelling-bee-for-a-beautiful-reason-5?c=reccon1
6. Mummykins made the most scrumptious soup and pumpkin bread for dinner. Nomnomnom.
7. Have been brave and volunteered to be the sole representative of my tutor group at a particular seminar tomorrow - and will have to be the sole presenter of information/feedback to the rest of my tutor group later in the day! After teaching Year 5s, they'll be !!!!! cats, I'm sure!
8. Just read this and had to share...very funny!

Evening all.
Five pleasures for Monday:
1. Walked into town to work out how many steps a particular route would take. This one is not far off my goal for each day this week so getting to 4250 was easy today.
2. Took the hyacinths round to my parents - my mum was very pleased with them. The flowers smell fantastic. It was really good to see my mum and dad again, it's been too long a gap.
3. University Challenge on iplayer was good fun tonight.
4. I've been muddling by with using a double duvet cover as a top sheet in my temporary blanket-made bed and needed to get proper sheets sorted. My parents didn't have the spare set of single bed sheets they thought they had and I can't buy new ones because that would count as a non-essential this year so I have dug out my collection of old white brushed cotton sheets that used to belong to my gran (who died ~30 years ago) and found a sort-of-matching pair. I think these sheets are probably at least sixty years old, maybe even date to WW2. One of the ones I've chosen was sides-to-middled by her. I love the fact that I still use things previous generations used.
5. My parents have, however, given me the most beautiful reversable, Provencale cotton/linen mix, single quilted bedspread. Can't wait to make the bed with it. [STRIKE]I'm too tired tonight - will do it in the morning.[/STRIKE] Forget that! I posted this and decided that I'd talked myself into it so I now have a properly made bed with gran's sheets and Provencale bedspread!
Sweet dreams
B x0 -
Kittikins re your No 5 - thank you, that's powerful, honest and very true of so many 'fathers'.
Broomstick the bedspread sounds lovely
chicken I think he might be sweet on her
1. nsd/npd
2. A friend phoned unexpectedly and came for a cuppa this afternoon, I had no biscuits so I made scones with chopped prunes as I'm out of dried fruit, and 1/2 milk 1/2 yogurt as I was a tad short of milk (what a lousy housewife!). It worked beautifully and she asked for the recipe
3. Decided to throw out/car boot at least five items from every room and did really well, even managed to do more in the kitchen and bedroom, then I reached the bathroom - that stumped me. I need all those things!
4. Made a 'pie' of left-over veg and topped it with sweet potato and mozzarella. Very tasty
5. Yellow thing all morning, and a very bright moon tonight. Lovely to look at the sun in a blue sky, and the moon scudding in and out of the clouds
Sweet dreams0 -
DD hop on a plane ...you're in the neighbourhood...just another 8 hours on a plane! Enjoy Singapore. We stopped there for the first time coming back last week but just for an hour! They even have M&S!
Well not a lot of pleasant things to say its 7pm and 42o , just awful but I should be thankful we have a home with some air con in it . I have languished very dramatically all day, moaning about the heat, sighing deeply and just been plain miserable about it all! It's even too hot for the birds to sing.
Washing dried very quickly,
Veg wilted very quickly....had to go out in the very hot heat to give it a drink.
Had a caller about one of the text books we are selling...hoping they come with cash to collect. As DD1 put then all online, taking photos, descriptions etc I am giving her a 20% sellers fee!
DS out since early o'clock....can only assume his girlfriends house has better aircon then we do.
Been watching Tudor farmhouse on YouTube , just about to watch Christmas one.
Wrap up warm in UK !0
