Well, thank you, Dundeedoll. :-D That was a very kind comment about me and nice to wake up to!
CCP - glad roofing repairs are underway.
PK - having a new kitchen fitted I found very complicated! (In the end I went with a local builder who replastered the walls then fitted my units which were a mixture of Howdens via Ebay and B and Q via erm... B and Q!)
Very tired today (no idea why) and grumpy with it but here are my pleasures for today:
1) We went to a well known local model shop, just one street up from where my grandma and granddad lived. Had to laugh driving past their old house as it is still festooned with Christmas lights (and a reindeer!) put up by the family renting it. Grandma had a tiny tree and no fuss at Christmas time!
2) Model shop was ace. They had a kettle on the counter and a box of chocolates and made tea or coffee for all the regulars as they visited. Bigger son bought an Airfix plane and smaller son bought a switch for his Hornby signal and some buffers.
3) Carried on to get sons some new trousers. Bigger son at 13 has now outgrown all boy trousers so I spent 20 minutes getting very confused about buying mens trousers. I have no idea what a normal/short length leg might be or what his waist is (doesn't look very wide!) Anyway, he must be in the diddiest men's size that they do and his trousers are no longer cutting him in half.
4) Had eyebrows threaded.
5) Sons chose their 100g of soap each from Lush.
6) Fish and chips from the van for tea.
7) Casualty tonight but I couldn't really get into this episode.
8) Bigger son made his Airfix plane (almost painted now) and I wired up the switch to the train signal OK.0 -
Good evening all!
VJsmum we want to see the same films! :-)
DigForVictory I have done an outdoor bootcamp for over a year now, I love it. And I love excel too, so am really enjoying my college time at the moment, unlike when I do bookkeeping which I don't like.
Here's me today:
1- nice breakfast of fruity spicy porridge
2- walk through the park in the sunshine with a friend
3- free Waitrose tea and newspaper
4- to the sales with DH, got quite a bit of money back at J Lewis because they had reduced the items we bought before Christmas, and they have this policy that if they reduce prices within 28 days you can get the difference back!
5- amazing bargain jumpers at Barbour sale.
Good night all xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Sunday evening here and still pleasantly warm...the great hot week starts tomorrow so I shall be moaning and weeping and wailing by the end of the week...pre warning you
Today has been another day of pleasant things,
We went a drive and then a riverside walk. Saw lots of dogs in all shapes and sizes and some rather large ducks! The path kind of abruptly ended and I asked a dog walker if we could go on...".well this bit's a bit snakey " said she! Oh dear that was my walk ruined...went on a little bit further and then I started having a little ,teeny panic attack. We never saw any but I knew there were probably snakes there! So that bit wasn't pleasant but we turned back, walked past all the dogs and the ducks again and then further on in the opposite direction.
Brunch!
Home to the garden. Cut back a bottle brush tree outside our/ DS bedroom windows. It was so overgrown it was hitting the wires ( we have wires criss crossing gardens and streets...electricity and phone) so whilst I shall miss the minah birds that hang upside down in the flowers of the tree it is nice to have a bit more light coming in. Bundled that up and will out a call in to council to collect it from us. We are allowed 2 collections a year.
I now have a vase full of bottle brush flowers on my dining table.
Then OH and I went to the cinema. Cheap seats on a Sunday...they are actually cheaper than the vouchers I used to buy at old work. Think everyone else had the same idea, I've never seen it so busy. Anyway, we spent an enjoyable 2 hours ,in an air conned cinema, watching 'Saving Mr Banks' which is about the making of Mary Poppins film by Disney. It was a beautiful film. I had tears in my eyes a couple of times.
Home and just made/ had dinner of tagliatelle with bacon, mushrooms, onion and courgettes from the garden. We had the most beautiful courgette flower this morning fully opened , I've only ever seen them closed.
That's me for another day...been back home a week now and had my first full nights sleep last night....dreamt we'd had another baby! Yikes...but I woke up!
Peas no longer swimming in a bowl but planted in the veg patch....by the end of the coming week I'm sure they will wish they were still swimming!
Have a lovely Sunday0 -
Purple_kitten wrote: »VJsmum: What’s the SB challenge? Definitely another J.Browns fan here only found them last year, do the prices keep coming down?
Oh did it come out as SB? Stupid autocorrect - it was supposed to say 30 day Abs challenge. Not that I want a 6 pack, just make the little muffin disappear. Only I can't seem to get into the swing of it and keep going back to day 1:o I guess doing something is better than nothing anyhow.
J Browns do go down - I noticed a tunic I've got my eye on is now £9.95 from about £35 , but obviously there is an element of poker playing - will it get down enough for you, before it sells out. They do colour code though so you know when they are down to the last few. I am not sure I have ever bought anything full price - but then I am tight! The feedback is helpful, regarding sizes.
Chicken - ooh a stalker, lovely :rotfl: You do build up pictures of people though, don't you. I avoid pictures of the Archers cast as they don't "look" right. Homepage will give you a sneaky side and back view from 18 months ago. Homepage is going to be more regularly updated. If I can post here every day it seems a shame not to post there as a more permanent diary. Paella is one of my most favouritist things
Broomstick - <<adds Bletchley circle to things I must get round to watching>>
VickyA / DforV - local radio is fab. The one I listen to is BBC WM "for Birmingham and the Black Country"It often has me :rotfl: Normal people are the funniest comedians
Frith - tired, grumpy, unsettled. it's the time of year and the recent sunspot activity.
Caterina - ticked one film off - see below.
Mhags - Snakes v sunshine, Hmm..... I don't mind snakes, but prefer them behind glassDD nearly trod on one in America once - later found out it was harmless, but at the time
Yesterdays Pleasures
1. What a lovely bright sunny day - 2 loads washed Friday night and hung out early. Wasn't dry but it made a heck of a difference
2. got my head round some marking, even if I didn't actually start it.that's what I am supposed to be doing now
3. went for a bike ride with OH. So beautifully bright and sunny - felt positively spring like. if all winter was like this, I would cope so much better. Did 8 miles, but my backside knows it hasn't been on a bike for a while
4. Did a Gordon Ramsay marinated lamb kebabs recipe. DS said it was like eating "chewy lemon" :rotfl: OH and I loved it though. Helped with the spring feeling too.
5. Went to the pictures. Opted for the Railway Man. Absolutely brilliant film - shocking in parts, compassionate in parts. Knowing it is in the most part true makes it all the more poignant. And Colin Firth - need I say more?
Have lovely days all. I am taking DD out in our car for the first time :eek:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Chicken - neuropathy is not as bad as it was. Gabapentin/pre gabalin seems to have helped. Just occasional burning/crawling sensation in my heel. Podiatrist is treating pain over arch of my foot as tendon damage
Kittikins - hope you are ok x
Pleasures
1. its the weekend :j
2. sunny day so loads more washing done, work clothes and bedding, and mostly dried on the line
3. nice walk round local pond (when does a pond become a lake? Suppose size matters) and dropped more glass jars/bottles into bottle bank. There is something very therapeutic about smashing glass !
4. called into a friends house on way home for a natter
5. another friend came round in the evening and as I hadn't seen her since before xmas it was nice to catch up. We were going to have a bottle of wine but I didn't feel like drinking so I took her home in the car to save her taxi fare
Not such a pleasure - DS has passed eyesight test for specials then been told he cant join because his eyesight is too bad in one eye - but he meets the home office standards !!! DFV -Sorry for delay posting the recipe for Consomme, I have typed it out as in the book (which is a tad old)
Consomme (Basic Recipe) 4 portions
8 oz chopped or minced beef
1 ltr cold, white or beef stock
bouquet garni (or some chopped herbs)
3-4 peppercorns
4oz mixed vegetables ( onion, carrot, celery, leek)
1 egg white
salt
1. Thoroughly mix the beef, salt, egg white and 1/4 ltr cold stock in a thick bottomed pan
2. Peel, wash and finely chop the vegetables
3. Add to the beef with the remainder of the stock, the bouquet garni and the peppercorns
4. Place over a gentle heat and bring slowly to the boil stirring occasionally
5. Give a final stir
6. Lower the heat so that the consomm! is simmering very gently
7. Cook for 1.5-2 hours without stirring (if memory serves me right the meat forms a layer on top of the stock)
8. Strain carefully through a double muslin
9. Remove all the fat using both side of 3-in (10cm) square pieces of kitchen paper.
10. Correct the seasoning and colour, which should be a delicate amber
11. Degrease again if necessary
12. Bring to the boil and serve
It is 25+ years since I made this myself so good look. Being old style you will know that the meat can then be converted into another dish.0 -
